View Full Version : DSL/Computer help
This has been one heck of a week for me as well as last week. Hubby & I were on vacation last week, came back from a day in Atlantic City & found out a big storm hit. It knocked out our phone line (lightning hit). Took out our cordless phone, 13" TV & DSL modem or so I thought. (No Internet at home for over a week. Glad I have it at work or I'd go crazy.) Verizon sent another DSL modem, but it's not working either. My technical question is this, could it really be their modem or could something have happened to the card in my computer? The computer was plugged into a power surge & turned off. The modem was off & unplugged. The phone line was hooked up & the ethernet cable was hooked up to the DSL modem. When we finally got phone line Friday afternoon, the ethernet light was off when it's usually on & Verizon said that the modem was bad. I even tried USB connection with a new cable. It seems kinds of funny that the modem they sent was bad though I guess it's possible. Does anyone have any idea about this? They are sending another one, but if this doesn't work, then I'm wondering about damage to my computer.
Thanks,
Lee :distress:

My phone company can give me the readings off of my DSL modem over the phone. They can tell me if everything SHOULD be okay or not. My service sucks though, I have to reset my modem on a regular basis, which makes me a very happy camper.
Good luck with it.

As much as I would love to blame that wretched Verizon (no, I still have not forgiven them for accidentally deleting my entire website) it sounds like it may be the computer itself.
:blob2: :blob1: I'm on finally! I had to take my hard drive into the computer shop & they had to replace the PCI Net Card. Oh, I missed the Internet at home. :blob1: :blob2:
