I'm curious what everybody thinks about this idea...

I recently "revisited" some old B-52's classics thanks to my ipod and decided that Stevie would do an incredible version of "Dance This Mess Around".
If you imagine the way she finished off Gold Dust Woman on the Dance tour, you can probably hear her version of this great old B-52's track.

Should we start a petition and get her to do it?

I know on a good night, Stevie knows how to have fun and she doesn't take herself so seriously that she would eschew this idea.

I've never used the word eschew in a sentence before.

Cheers

When she made that comment she was'nt saying she was as good as Bob Dylan. She was talking about his liberal use of tensesI agree with you but I think she was also unintentionally comparing herself to him. Maybe if I watched it again I'd feel differently but that was how I took it.

But like Josh said, they probably all know they're hot stuff except John and Chris. Well, I'm assuming he was just referring to the Rumours line-up, because I don't think all the others are like that.

I took it to mean that: I am an artist of the same caliber as Bob Dylan. IF you wouldn't question Bob Dylan's usage, HOW can you question mine?

"WOULD YOU SAY THAT TO BOB DYLAN?", clearly, IMO, indicates that she places herself in the same catagory. Like I said, delusions of grandeur.

Yes I agree with you about John and Chris after all " she is with the rythym section not part of the frontline" and he is "just an old fart bass player" a couple of my favorite quotes from them :blob2: :blob2:
Stevie was talking about their similar STYLE of writing and I thought it was a funny quote. :blob2:

And exactly who was that who had the window removed in the hotel suite so the piano could be delivered

Hoteliers must have cringed to hear of their coming. Nicks’s rooms had to be repainted pink, so a white piano was required. And Caillat recalls at one European stopover a window frame was removed and a crane deployed to get a baby grand into Christine’s suite.

Don'tlookdown said "On a good night" (she doesn't take herself seriously) and GateandGarden said "Sometimes" (she takes herself seriously). That combination leaves plenty of room for Don'tlookdown to still be right. Let's not let this turn into a Stevie Nicks/rest of Fleetwood Mac personality bashing fest. Minus John and Christine.Oh, I don't want to fight about it, either. Though I must say that fighting on here can be fun, though. :D

Whatever the case Homie, I have to say that it doesn't make sense to me that your opinion of the woman changed completely based on that one comment. It took a lot for me to change my opinion of Mick and I wasn't even that fond of him to begin with. In general, you'd think it would take more than a single comment for a person to change his or her mind completely about anyone.

A quote from Cream magazine can't possibly current. Didn't that mag (very popular great music mag from the 1970s) go out of circulation years ago?

The whole Bob Dylan "controversy" is silly to me. It was such an off-the-cuff remark. When rabid fans study things so intensely, any slight gesture, remark or action can be misconstrued, blown out of preportion, theorized and passed down until sometimes it becomes acknowledged as fact.

It seems unrealistic to me think that Stevie's PR people sat down with her to say "Stevie, there's been a lot of negative backlash regarding your Bob Dyan comment. This is hurting your image and career. We need to do damage control! Please let us issue a statement clarifying your stance...before Rolling Stone runs the cover story expose' headlined "STEVIE? YOU"RE NO BOB DYLAN!"
If her quote was so inflaming, wouldn't there have been more media about it? Should she have Katy Couric interview her so she can clear her name? Bob Dylan should probably issue a response. I think the only place where the "issue" is even thought about is right here.

But then again, it's only my theory! :]

A quote from Cream magazine can't possibly current. It's not current. It's from several years ago... in 1987, to be exact.

I think Stevie's "I'm no Bob Dylan" statement is a more accurate reflection of how she views herself as a songwriter, than to twist her comments from the documentary to make it sound like she thinks of herself as a female Bob Dylan.

She used Dylan as an example when talking to Lindsey about not following the "rules of writing," but she could have easily inserted the name of ANY contemporary songwriter there. Hell, Lindsey himself has played fast and loose with the "rules of writing" and "grammar" (for example: "You can't plant no seed").

Nothing aggravates me more than Lindsey singing "I should've turned away and ran/Just as fast as I can" on Smile At You. Gawd, that burns my ass.

That reminds me of people who constantly try to compare New York and Los Angeles. Stevie IS no Bob Dylan. But neither is any other master songwriter I can think of right now. Neil Young, Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Tweedy, etc.

Yeah, I think it was a great one. Thanks for allowing me to express my opinion.
FOR the(my) record, after Bella Donna(a masterpiece, which I've listened to twice this week), and Wild Heart,- well, RAL, and OSOTM, sucked, IMO! That is just my opinion, but I stand behind it. Me being a huge fan of hers fell by the wayside, after purchasing such tripe. RAL wasn't terrible, but OSOTM was craptacular, IMO. I'm amazed at the blinders some of you wear, but only for her, not the rest of the band. Again, thanks for allowing me to express my opinion here.

You are free to express your opinion, but you should take others into consideration as well. You seem to think your opinion supercedes everyone elses. Your only participation in a Stevie thread is to remind everyone of your negative opinion of her, which is why I found the troll thing funny. I know you are not a troll.
There are many that may feel you have blinders on when it comes to Chris, but how many rush to tell you that every chance they get? I should probably bite my tongue and leave it at that but what the heck, I suppose I started this.

You've claimed before that your incessant Stevie slamming was solely done because you get a kick out of putting chiffonheads in a twirl and ruffling their feathers. Your very own holy crusade to knock the heathen goddess off her pedestal.
So your hiding behind the role of a poster being victimized for expressing his opinions when reminded of your own modus operandi is glaringly out of character my dear, especially in the light of such a little jab. Where has that wonderful sense of humor we keep hearing about gone to? Self-derision not included?
