In vague honor of my 1000th post *hooray*...I wanted to know:

1) Are you a musician?

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?

1-To answer them myself, I play guitar and bass.
2-Guitar for 8 years, bass for 3.
3-I have played 'I'm So Afraid' and 'Go Your Own Way' and 'Oh Well' at gigs before, mostly the latter.

My mother had me take piano lessons for seven years. I don't really consider myself to be a musician though. I've never had a "gig" either but I do play a lot of FM/SN songs just for fun, because I'm a geek like that.

1) Are you a musician?
Yes, I am.

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?

I'm a percussionist - well I haven't played with anyone in a long time - but I try to stay a bit fresh. I've been playing for about 15 years. The last band I was in was a little over a year ago...then I moved across the country sans drums :distress:

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?

In my first band, Dialectrik, we tried to play Angel - but both of the girls in the band (me and our bass player) were WAY too scared to sing in public - so we ended up doing The Apartment Song :D I was still too scared to sing in public - but our guitarist/singer guy was awesome :p

I tried to learn to play the guitar....I didn't do too well! But now I have a BF who is a badass guitar player and I'm starting to learn again. I'm working on Rhiannon, I was doing ok until he made me try to play the bass line at the same time  I just don't think I'm meant to play, even though I really enjoy it.

Rhiannon is easy, and fun to play. You will get the hang of it. Everyone has to get over that "learning curve" where they dont feel comfortable. Then you have the geniuses that are just born with the gift. It was about a year of practicing 4 days a week before I really felt like I was getting somewhere with my guitar playing.

Ugh - I tried to learn guitar - my fingers were just too short, and I got frustrated and quit.

Still - I sort of learned how to play Landslide (with a capo, can't do bar chords) so that was cool - I've all but forgotten it now, or course.

I can play a bit of Rhiannon on the piano, tried to learn Silver Springs - but got frustrated and quit :o

I'd love to be in a band again *sigh*

I've been playing piano for almost 12 years and I started teaching piano earlier this year. The guys I work with are all guitarists and a few of them are teaching me how to play guitar.

I used to do talent shows in high school and I did "Songbird" one year and got first place. :woohoo: It's hard to get a gig in this town if you haven't hit middle age and know somebody who owns a club, so I'm in the process of figuring out how to beat the system and at least get some experience as a working musician. I'd love to do it for a living, but I'd also like to get some gigs under my belt before I start looking to move out of state. You bet I'd do some Mac stuff if I had a gig -- I was just jamming with one of our drum instructors on "Sara" the other day and that was a blast. :)

1) Are you a musician?

If you consider singers musicians, then yes, I am. I write my own songs and can play basic piano.

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?

Again, I sing, write, and play a little piano. I've been singing since I was three, and playing piano since I was 9.

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?

I've performed Say You Love Me, Gold Dust Woman, and Beautiful Child. My voice isn't really suited for FM songs, really.

1) Are you a musician?
Yep.

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?
Trumpet since 5th grade(haven't touched one since my freshman year at college, and decided I didn't want to be a music major); guitar since 8th grade; keyboards since about 11th grade; I've been playing mandolin for about 5 years now; and a little bit of drums.

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?
Yep, we currently do GYOW and Don't Stop. I ENJOY GYOW more, but the crowd dances more to DS. We did Monday Morning a few years ago, and didn't have a very good crowd response, so we dropped it like a hot potater!
The drummer and I fool around with Oh Well, but the bass player doesn't want to learn it. The fool around is because we start one set with an accapella song intro in E, and he and I will play it up to where the first verse starts, then start the accapella song intro, instead of the Oh Well lyrics. BTW, the accapella song intro is Save a Horse, and the crowd goes APE**** over it.

1) Are you a musician? Yep - not professionally - just for my own amusement and the occasional jam session.

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing? Classically trained pianist - beginning at the age of 8...I took lessons for a few years, quit for awhile, then went back to it for a couple more years. Then I discovered rock music and didn't care to learn any more Beethoven or Bach. I have a Rhodes 73. :)

I started guitar lessons in high school - can't play leads for ****, but I'm a decent rhythm player. I've got an Applause, roundback guitar...which rarely gets played cuz my nails are too long. I also have a glow-in-the-dark, crescent Rhythmtech tambourine - and I rock on it!

I'm a decent singer - I took voice lessons for awhile, to work on proper breathing and technique.

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"? As mentioned earlier, I don't play in public. Except for when I go to see George DeVore and he wants me to play tambo onstage w/ him when he does his Billy Preston medley. That's always fun!

I have sung "Dreams" at karaoke, many times. I taught myself how to play "Kind of Woman," by ear. I do have all the Stevie and Mac songbooks, but never seem to have the time to noodle around on the keyboard or the guitar these days.

I hear ya. Mine isn't really either. I can do the lead thru Oh Well, and I'm So Afraid, but Go Your Own Way is tough. Robin (a fellow male bandmate) always sang lead on GYOW, with me backing him up on the "Go your own ways"

for musical ledgies (http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=19465)

anyway...

1) Are you a musician?
I consider myself more of a singer, but I can play guitar. Not very well though

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?
Singing - since I was little. Guitar - about 5 years.

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?
I've never had a gig I'm don't think I'd have the balls to get up in front of a crowd.

Very cool. I could never do Big Love live like Lindsey did on the Dance tour. I practiced that song many times...and I can play most of the parts in seperation. The beginning is no problem, nor the solo, it's that part after he says "looking out for love" that gets me. Anyhow, is that the way you are doing it ala The Dance version?

I know, I really just need to practice more. It's hard to find time in between work and a three year old. I think if I did keep practicing, I could be pretty good. I am double jointed and I can do some insane things with my fingers and stretch them in crazy ways (along with many other parts of my body!  )

1) Are you a musician?
No, but I know a lot about music so people often ask me if I am when I get to talking about it. I own a guitar but I do not know how to play it. I tried to take lessons but the teacher I had was bad and I find the position of the left hand unbearable, I just hate it. I have "piano hands" so have been thinking about trying that. I'd also love to slam some drums.

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?
I sing but I didn't start until I was 15 because I was so shy as a child.

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?
Well, at a party once this band was encouraging people to sing and my ex pushed me to do it which was cool because I wouldn't have at that time. They played Dreams for me and I sang it. The kick was the band knew the harmonies and I found that I really loved singing along with people. I know why Stevie had to have her back up singers! I was so scared though it was hard to enjoy myself. Well, until the harmonies came in, for some reason that made all the difference and I loosened up. The best part was a friend, who's a little older than me said, "Wow, that just brought me back to the bus and listening to that song, thanks for doing that." The buzz kill? My friend Marcie sings like a rock star (a la Janis) and took all of the spotlight. Ah well, what can ya do?

1) Are you a musician?
Not by a long stretch, but it is my main hobby. In fact, I want to work on a batch of songs I have during this summer break... If any turn out OK I'll post them. (Wish you hadn't asked now, don't you ;) )

2) If so, what do you play and how long have you been playing?
I just play piano by ear. Started when I was around ten, during the long school holidays at my dad's. There was no Nintendo or anything, so I learnt to amuse myself by making up silly tunes on the piano, and eventually figuring out the bones of songs I liked. It wasn't until I finally got my own piano (synthesizer) at the end of my first year of university, in 2001, that I was able to play around enough to get adept at all 12 keys.

3) And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"?
No.. Although Lux might testify that I once played The Chain on a bass..

I did a thread like this about a month ago! :) if you wanted to read it...

Me too! Here is what I typed:

Do you play an instrument? If so, what kind(s) and for how long?
I play guitar--electric and acoustic. I have been playing for almost a year. I have been a dancer most of my life--tap, ballet, jazz, and modern, so I haven't had the time to devote to an instrument, but I always wanted to play one. I have decided to make time to do it now, because I'm finally out of college and have time to devote to playing music.

Can you sing? What is your octave range and voice type (i.e. tenor, alto, etc.)? Yes, I have been singing all my life. My voice type is really alto, but my range is pretty vast: low soprano to bass, if necessary.

Do you write songs? Just music? Only lyrics? I write poetry and songs, but no music.

Have you ever dreamt of or seriously considered being a musician? Singer---yes; musician---not really

What genre of music would you prefer to create? I love all types of music, but I especially enjoy playing and singing (because it is best suited to my voice) rock and country.

And since we're all Fleetwood Mac fans, have you ever played any Mac songs at your "gigs"? I have played Mac stuff for myself and friends, like "Gold Dust Woman," "Oh Daddy," "Landslide," etc.

That song is MUCH fun to play on bass and guitar. My bass amp was a cheap-o with a busted cone and it sounds really dirty like McVie's bass solo on the Mirage tour version. Generally I play The Dance version when it comes to guitar.

Wow...I'm semi jealous there Chili. Maybe with luck and age, I'll be where you're at one day. You know, as far as the musicianship goes...and without the bitterness. And the ...well I think that's enough. HA *wink*
