I was just curious how everyone usually frames their promo posters, handbills, and other stuff. I have a poster that I want to frame, but I'm not sure if I should do it myself or take it to get it done professionally  I could mount it myself, but I'm afraid I would ruin it.... plus I paid alot for it and I want to keep it looking nice. I also learned my lesson from the past two years at school, not to use that wall putty crap! It totally trashed my Beatles 'Abbey Road' poster

Here's a pic of the poster...... any ideas at all would be really appreciated :D

Well, I usually just put them in a frame that I buy from the store, put a nail in the wall and hang them  I have never had a problem.

Cool poster by the way....I've always loved that one, but could never afford it.

My honest opinion is: If you can afford to have the item framed professionally, then do it. Though, it really depends on your preference, that is - do you want a temporary frame, or something permanent? Target has great poster frames, if you want something easy and affordable. I have purchased my own frames from time to time and done it myself, and they came out great. I like big, gaudy frames when possible - gilt and carved - but some items just aren't suited for it. Hobby Lobby has a great variety of affordable, yet expensive looking frames, if there is one in your area.

One word of warning about professional framers - they tend to treat all posters like they came out of the $3.99 Wal-Mart bin. When I have had my lithographs framed, they all wanted to glue them to foamboard. I about crapped my pants when the guy said he was putting my RAL litho on foamboard. I was like, "NO, YOU WILL NOT!!!" Be sure to specify, or it may be forever attached to a crappy piece of polystyrene. Also, it costs a bit more, but if you can get an acid free lining between your poster and the backing board, your posters, and future generations of fans, will appreciate it. :)

I purchased a retail-store poster rack - like the kind you'd see at Spencer's or something....Had a pro mount it on the wall for me....and it's now full -40 posters! :p

I've also had a few others professionally framed at Michael's. They've always done a good job!

But yeah, you could probably do it yourself. Most pre-made frames come in various standard poster sizes. :wavey:

Thanks everyone! I think a Target just opened near where I live, so I will definitely go there and check out their poster frames. I guess it does make sense not to have them professionally mounted.... I've begun to hate the idea of my poster being glued to some board forever. Plus it will be easier to remove it from the frame if I needed to, to be packed & shipped when I come home for summer vacation, and when I move after I graduate. Thanks again for all of your help

It really doesn't cost that much to get them custom framed. I got a poster of the SYW album cover blown up 3 feet tall. So cool! I love that picture of Stevie and Lindsey. Anyway, it was only like 30 dollars to get it custom framed. And It looks so nice....

You can normally find deals on custom framing in the sunday paper. Like half off at a craft store or something.

If you don't mind me asking, is it very expensive to have a poster blown up? I'm thinking about getting a large version of the Dance cover made...
