I know Lindsey dated Anne Heche :distress:  Does anyone have photos of any of Lindsey's other girlfriends after he and Stevie had broken up. I have seen pictures of his wife, Kristen but what did his other girlfriends look like? Any photos of them?

Is Christine married now? What does her husband look like if she is? I couldn't sleep and I was just curious about some of the people they dated and married. Thanks.

Chris is not married now. She says her dogs are the loves of her life these days. :)

Cheri Caspari, another of Lindsey's ex's had a very small role in the movie Pretty Woman. Can't remember what she looks like, but I know she's in it.

Every now and then the "Lindsey's women" bar that I made for a joke is necessary to educate! So here it is:

Thanks for answering and sending the photo of Carol Ann Harris. She sort of looks like Avril L. to me. Just interesting that Lindsey went for the similar blondes and Stevie dated so many different types of guys who looked so different. Sorry to hear Christine isn't married anymore.

I think the exception to that is Don Henley. He looked a LOT like Lindsey back when Stevie was dating him. I think at the time she saw him as "Lindsey Lite" - hotness without the intensity. Sexy but willing to party.

And man, Nancy putting all those women together like that really shows how much they all looked like a younger Stevie in one way or another.

I see the resemblance and he does look pretty hot... but just knowing who is underneath that fro and beard just kills it for me.

I agree that Henley looked a lot like Lindsey back when they both had the fros and beards. What you said about her hooking up with him for the partying minus all the intensity is what I've always thought about her relationship with Don.

None of those women look like Stevie to me. I don't want to put down any of them, but the fourth one from the left (Cheri?)? No way. Nothing. Anne Heche? Are you kidding? His wife? Nope. She resembles more of a Linda McCartney to me than a Stevie. The second one I don't think looks like her, but she would be the closest and that would be a big stretch. If you're only going by hair color and length (blonde, long hair), then I also resemble Stevie and for that, I say THANK YOU!!!

I hate the Eagles. Hate them. None of them have one iota of hotness to me. Everytime I see or hear them I'm reminded even more how much I loathe them. But, of course, no offense to Eagles fans. :D

Eh, Lindsey's chicks are all blonds. Whatever. I am a brunette and I am f*cking proud to be. Damn those blond chicks and their irresistablity to men/women alike...brunettes are underrated man. ;)

But, woah...the first Lindsey gf may not be a blond. Totally overlooked her (see, even I do it.), as she seems sort of mismatched in the whole little "Lindsey Women Block" thingie. Was she older than him or something? I'll bet she had a great personality or something...:)

I don't think she ever dated Frey either, but she's always talked about what a great friend he is -- or was.
We should do a Stevie's Men Timeline. I don't know if we'd have enough room. :DCL Moon tried that years ago with her Stevie Nicks FAQ, but I think she sort of gave up.

There are a lot of conflicting data: e.g., everybody thinks Stevie dated Waddy & wrote "If Anyone Falls" about him (including Waddy), but Glen Parrish told the gal who wrote the book in 1984 that "If Anyone Falls" was about him, & his girlfriend Nicole seemed to agree.

Also, J.D. Souther never himself confirmed that he dated Stevie, & Stevie has only very rarely mentioned him. Plus, she certainly never mentioned having dated Walter Egan -- Walter himself spilled that one in his Q&A. Same with John Stewart -- Stevie never told the press she & Stewart were together on the 1981 tour, but Stewart finally did.

Same with John Stewart -- Stevie never told the press she & Stewart were together on the 1981 tour, but Stewart finally did.

Ok - we were talking about this awhile back and you never mentioned this??? So where did he say this?? I'd like to read it. All I can say is poor Buffy!! Weren't she and John married at that time? What a thing to do to your soul mate. :distress: Shame on you John and Stevie!!

I hadn't heard this before either. I knew that Stevie had inspired at least one of Stewart's songs (the name escapes me now) but a relationship???? My god.

Poor Lindsey. And Stewart's not the only artist he collaborated with to end up with Stevie. Even Walter Egan did for awhile.

I believe the song is "Blonde Star in the Texas Sky." And in my opinion, I believe that "Dreamers on the Rise" was written about Lindsey and Stevie.

After awhile I think that Lindsey probably just became numb as regards his feelings about Stevie sleeping with some of his good friends. He had to. I believe he's still friends with them, so it was obviously something that he just had to accept and he obviously forgave Stevie too. I could never do it. But, then again, maybe its something that just comes along with the rock and roll lifestyle.

Let's not forget another hero, Dennis Wilson, hopping into Stevie's bed. Edit: And Carol Ann's, too! Poor Lindsey.

Wait a minute - you mean Stevie slept with Dennis Wilson too?? I thought it was Chris who dated him? Lindsey has talked about Carol Ann sleeping with Dennis - he sort of laughed and joked about it. Makes me think he didn't really care that she slept with him. He probably wanted the relationship to end so that just made it easier.

Edit: Just read Nancy's post about during Dennis's relationship with Chris. What an awful thing for Stevie to do!! I can't believe she did that to Chris!!! Are you sure about that?

As far as all these men being attracted to Stevie, I have a friend that reminds me of Stevie (with the relationships)....where she just has men falling all over her the time and she gives them the runaround and treats them like **** and they keep coming back. Begging her and pleading for her to give them another chance. She reminds me of Stevie. (although, I'm not saying that Stevie treated men like ****, but just the general puppy dog appeal) It seems like every male on the planet was in love with Stevie. What was it about her? The star quality? The looks? The personality? The talent? Or maybe it was something behind closed doors? :D

Apparently, the only man that was never attracted to Stevie was Stan Lynch . I wonder why.

I'm glad somebody else is saying this stuff about why LB seemed to lash out a lot in a childish way at Stevie. If I were saying this stuff my ass would be getting flamed all to hell right now.

Whenever I go down the road of Stevie's indescretions with all the men LB ever knew I always get called a liar or Stevie hater. Maybe these guys are all lying about her? I don't know? I heard the stories for years. They all sure as **** have big mouths. What stands out in my mind is the fact that LB has not talked about these things himself and held back saying a lot of nasty things about her affairs.

Well, that TOTALLY explains the sarcasm directed towards Stevie at the "Tusk" sessions. Wow.No, it doesn't. It had nothing to do with that. Fleetwood Mac members always patronized Stevie in the studio over the years. It had nothing to do with Dennis Wilson! It had to do with the sorry fact that Stevie opens her mouth & says sort of dorky, stupid things in the studio (in trying to explain things, she might opt for a girly metaphor or a pseudo-mystical trope), & generally doesn't bring anything more to the recording studio table than the inclination to emote for a few minutes or hours & then take off in an exit of chiffon, platform boots & umpteen girlfriends.

If you don't stick around for marathon studio sessions & at least make an attempt to intellectualize & see the developing track in an abstract way, Fleetwood Mac really doesn't need you there.

When did we learn that Stevie had an affair with Dennis Wilson? That one's completely news to me.

I do know that Stevie and Christine both dated Curry Grant at some point, and those relationships had to be pretty close to overlapping.

By the way, and not to sound like "Great Defender of Stevie" here again, but you guys and gals do all realize that you can date someone and NOT be sleeping with them, right?
Not saying that she didn't... just that our minds shouldn't automatically assume it as fact that she did.

No way! Now that's interesting. Is that the infamous Blue T-Bird of the song of the same name?

Sure is. The car and its owner also appeared in the video for that very song. Unfortunately, however, it only aired once (on American Bandstand or something like that) and I don't know if anyone has it anymore.

When did we learn that Stevie had an affair with Dennis Wilson? That one's completely news to me.

I do know that Stevie and Christine both dated Curry Grant at some point, and those relationships had to be pretty close to overlapping.

I can't remember the source, but I read that Dennis Wilson boasted both Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks as conquests, although Stevie it appears was more of one-night stand. It's late, but I'll try to find that later. Stevie herself never confirmed it, that I know of, so maybe he was just talking big or the author got it wrong.

I'm getting an L-Word-chart kind of image in my head, here

(if you don't know the show, all the lines between the names represent relationships)

link to chart picture (big) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/wowone1/1x02-l-word004.jpg)

would be great if we could draw one of these for fleetwood mac... but what a job!

OOH, where did you hear this? Does that mean that she dated the rest of The Heartbrakers?

I think it is fascinating the loyalty LB has shown Stevie over the years...especially during their down/estranged times. Yea he has said a few sarcastic things about the amount of men, he has written some sarcastic songs but one thing he has never done is reveal personal things about her in books or to the press. He has kept her secrets even when she was treating him like utter ****. IMHO, this is one of the things that draws Stevie to him, her ability to trust his loyalty. I think it is really important to Stevie that there is someone like that in her life, who knew her before she became larger than life, rock star Stevie, whom she can trust to never spill about her. Even her own brother has not shown that amount of loyalty to her...as recently as several weeks ago he was saying some stuff to fans out front of a venue that should have been kept quiet. I know LB has said there are some trust issues but they are about other things. Had Lindsey wanted to, he could have lashed out after Mick's book came out and embarrassed Stevie with the story. He could talk about how she slept with a ton of his friends. He could talk about how perhaps Stevie used her sex appeal to further her solo career, aligning herself with just the right people to make it happen in the most successful way possible. He could talk about how completely disloyal it was of both Mick and Stevie for them to get involved with each other or about how deeply it really did hurt him. (thick skin my ass..more like a bottle of Jack D.) Even in the late eighties and early nineties when Stevie was talking about him in a rather dismissive, cold way...he still kept his mouth shut and I find it to be so admirable as well as interesting.

BTW...I think, for the most part, Stevie has also kept alot of LB's personal secrets but she never had a problem writing about his innermost pain in her songs. She also has, at times, allowed her anger, hurt or jealousy to prevail and those are the times when she has said personal things that she probably should have kept between them. (in my opinion)

To stay on topic...so many people over the years have commented on the woman LB has dated following Stevie. Most see the uncanny similarities. It is not that they look exactly like Stevie but they are so similar. Long straight blonde hair, thin, quiet, petite, demure. Even Stevie sees it..."ooh pale shadow, of a woman".

No Lindsey never made cutting remarks publicly, he just prefered to kick Stevie on stage instead. ;)

Wow, we should definitely try and compile a list of Stevie's conquests, rumoured and otherwise.

Here's CL Moon's list to get us started:

Dave Young, Brian Kane, Lindsey Buckingham, Walter Egan, Don Henley, John David Souther, Mick Fleetwood, Curry Grant, Kim Anderson, Joe Walsh, Waddy Wachtel, Paul Fishkin, John Stewart, Jimmy Iovine, Brad Jeffries, Dennis Dunstan, Rupert Hine, Johnny Starbuck, Doug Casper, Glen Parrish, Les Dudek.

To add: Hernan Rojas during the Tusk sessions, Dennis Wilson.... any more?

By the way, and not to sound like "Great Defender of Stevie" here again, but you guys and gals do all realize that you can date someone and NOT be sleeping with them, right?
Not saying that she didn't... just that our minds shouldn't automatically assume it as fact that she did.
Yes, I think people are assuming a lot. Besides I don't think Lindsey was this big martyr innocent either. He was doing drugs and having sex with groupies. It's all just part of Rock & Roll.

When it comes to details we don't know much at all so instead of giving the benefit of the doubt, let's just bunch every person in any band under the same catergory. No room for individuals, just rock 'n' roll. Actually if this is just rock 'n' roll, shouldn't atleast one member have killed themself by now?

Now I heard about Bob Dylan too.

As for Lindsey, I don't think he was too nice about Stevie. He knew that he would look like an ass if he said too much, because he is the man. Men usually aren't the catty ones and I guess he knew that.

His lyrics in TUSK are mostly about her and they are not nice. He also was not very nice on that tour. Then later, he spoke about her and called her tour a "lounge act". He also did an interview ( can't ever remember the guy's name my God) where he wasn't too terribly nice about her solo career.

After he left the band, if anyone asked him if he'd go back, he'd like almost hiss and bite like on Vh1 to 1.

He didn't take her signed Bella Donna album. He did kind of throw Carol Ann in her face. I mean Lindsey wasn't flawless.

******
As for Stevie, she has admitted to sleeping with ALOT of rock stars. I guess it was TISL time she admitted this. It's ok, it was the time ( late 70's early 80's, come on) and then she was a coke head and then a klonopin head and I'm sure she wasn't always in charge of herself 100%. But she never cheated on a husband ( who knows about Kim) but she was mostly single and having a good time. She was hot and guys wanted her and she enjoyed herself.

But I am so sure there are many more men we don't know about...
I don't believe her and Tom ever did anything. He was more of the brother...but what about Mike Campbell??? Boz Scaggs ( she said she was staying with him at one time..)??

Assuming a lot about what? That Stevie had affairs with just about every man Lindsey ever knew including childhood idols, his musician friends and famous singer-songwriters in other high profile bands? We didn't think that was just an assumption. Maybe some of these men are lying about her? It's a possibility, but the information is out there in the public domain and has been for many years. Besides, nobody said LB was a martyr. He got his licks in when he wanted to. He just did it in a childish manner directed to her in person not via trashing her personally in the press or having affairs with all her women friends in her entourage or other female rock stars of the day. Nobody said he was a boy scout. We were simply commenting on what it must have been like for him to sit in the same room with her and help her with her songs while she was having relationships with people he could not avoid either. Is it any wonder why he became such a recluse? The only assumption I see is that he remained friends with a lot of these men she was with. I'm sure he couldn't avoid the entire music industry at some point. I know that's an overstatement, but I think you can see what we're getting at. She left him and I don't think there is any dispute he still loved her when that happened. He never wanted her to go.

I see a slight difference in him moving on to random nobodies for companionship or sex because his woman didn't want him anymore, and what she did in having known affairs with many men in his social circle and working environment. He also still had to see her all the time in working situations. I don't think I could have done what he did and lived to tell about it, except maybe from a cell at San Quenton awating execution or doing 30 years to life. Wisper murder in your ear.

I'm pretty sure it's been documented a few times that Lindsey indulged in the groupie scene from time to time. Not that it makes him a bad person or anything, but Lindsey wasn't a saint either. I don't think that's tarring the whole band with the same brush to say they had their fair share of fun (as did Christine for that matter).

There used to be a great thread on the old Buckingham Nicks board about Lindsey's encounters with groupies and what they said about him. It was very funny.

That's why I think he resented her immense fame as he watched it grow very quickly over the course of just a few years. Had Stevie been Laurie Anderson or Joni Mitchell or someone whose immense gifts probably seemed more obvious to him, I don't think he would have reacted the same way.

But in general I sense that he (& the McVies, too) considered Stevie an ordinary musician & songwriter. That's why I think he resented her immense fame as he watched it grow very quickly over the course of just a few years. Had Stevie been Laurie Anderson or Joni Mitchell or someone whose immense gifts probably seemed more obvious to him, I don't think he would have reacted the same way.

What irked him was not that Stevie was FAMOUS, but that STEVIE was famous. Does that make sense?

But do you think he thought Stevie wasn't very talented or simply less talented than him? I think he definitely felt he wasn't getting the credit due to him (and in fairness he wasn't) because all eyes were on Stevie.

I'm pretty sure he's admitted this too. Anyone?

Lindsey has confessed to some jealousy and resentment post-breakup, but I can't recall him admitting being uncomfortable with her fame DURING their relationship. He did say that they were "competitive" while they were together, but also says he was OK with the fact that she got more attention. Stevie was "singled out" but he had a "different role behind the scenes" and that was fine with him. He even expressed relief about no one recognizing him when he walked down the street. Of course he could have expressed something different in an interview I missed, so if someone knows of another instance, feel free to interject!

I think that is an assumption everyone makes because Stevie always spins her view of his behavior toward her in this way. She also implies the same thing about other band members being jealous of her, not just members of Fleetwood Mac. Regarding Lindsey, I'm saying it was not a simple matter of a fellow band mate being jealous of a lesser talented person gaining more popularity. There were other dynamics between the two of them that made things complicated and to just keep implying he was jealous of her being more famous than he, or he was upset he didn't get due credit for what he did in the band is an oversimplification. If he cared about getting recognition for what he did in the studio he should have fought it out with Mick to get credit he deserved for producing most of the music after he joined the band. Instead he got jobs for friends who got the credit. Those friends/producers even admit Lindsey was the real producer, at least by the time of Rumours.

I don't think I know anything about anybody. I never met any of these people. I haven't read a billion interviews either. I just know what's been talked about by fans of the band for many years. If the Rumours lineup hadn't been marketed on their personal issues and soap opera appeal, maybe we wouldn't be talking about this? I don't take any of it too seriously. Do you? I'd still be buying the music and going to a show once in a while even if I didn't know all the useless information most of us couldn't avoid knowing as fans of this band across the years.

The soap opera factor of the band has a very limited appeal to me.And if I had to choose I'd find the Christine-John story more fascinating because it looks a much less histeric and vengeful relationship. It' s just the castle built generally on a woman's supposed sexual history that annoys me because I find it unfair. Oh well, it must be the Adrienne Rich in me, as David would say.

But to tell you the truth, I don't think that he thinks he has himself written more than five or ten really good songs. I don't think he believes that anyone in Fleetwood Mac from his era has written a "God Only Knows."

But apparently the fact that we're talking about famous musicians means we can lump them all under the same catergory of behaviour. I gather only rock stars get blow jobs, I know I've never heard of any regular young males wanting or receiving such things. Mick, John and Lindsey are famous rock stars, this gives me the knowledge to assume that each has 10 groupies in a cage to they use upon inspiration and that they have no individuality nor reason beyond this 'rock star' characteristic.

Now I get why they need all those trucks touring.

Maybe this Connie woman was lying but what's it to you if Lindsey had a little fun on tour? It doesn't make him any less valid as a musician or, in my eyes, as a person. Does anyone remember this?? I believe it was discussed on the old ledge a long time ago when Don released his last solo album....actually I don't know which album it was but it had the song "Taking You Home" on it. Anyway, Stan Lynch was one of the producers.

From what I recall he did some sort of interview or something. He commented on Stevie and how she was always after him, but he wasn't interested in her. He said something to the effect that Benmont Tench was in love with her but he couldn't stand her.

I remember thinking he was pretty rude about it. Methinks, she probably rejected him (hmmm...Stevie rejecting a man..then again...maybe not! ) and he was just getting his diggs in.

As far as the other Heartbreakers...I have an suspicion that she and Michael Campbell got busy. She did an interview where she was talking about him and how she begged him to help her with a song. She said that she told him she would do anything he wanted, even "caress" him. Now, WTF does that mean??

No, no one is lumping all rock stars together in one category. But we are talking about Mick and John and, yes, your beloved Lindsey. It seems not to be enough that Connie has both written about them, and spoken about them (on VH1), and related the stories of her getting them off on more than one occasion. You can believe what you want to believe; others are giong to believe what they want to believe. The reality is - it was the 70s, it was the rock and roll lifestyle, it was sex and drugs and rock and roll. Sorry to break it to you and everyone else, but rock and roll isn't and never was a chaste environment. Who cares??? It wasn't for Lindsey or Mick or John. It wasn't for Stevie or Christine. Again, I ask, who cares???

Wanna ask your parents what THEY were doing in the 60s and 70s? And I bet few of them were rock stars. Times have changed. And people grow up. Do I think Lindsey is screwing groupies today? No. But do I think he and the other guys got it off with groupies more than once while on the road? You bet your a$$. Same way Stevie and Christine got around. It was the era of free love. Sex with no strings - It was a different lifestyle than any one of us has ever experienced, thanks to AIDS. The coke thing was also a big part of it - and they have all owned up to that. What they did or did not do on the side... well, it's really only their business. Except if they chose to indulge with groupies, well, there was always the chance said groupies would tell...

None of them was innocent.

Though, Lindsey has also complemented her on her poetry - and the way she uses phrasing. He's also spoken about how she uses rhythm to convey a feeling, and she uses repetition in her words, but knows exactly when to stop in order to make the biggest impact. I don't think I could name a single straight man who could handle living with Queeny in a mansion with chiffon and fugly afghans dripping from every corner of every room. Then there is her affection for soap operas, but that's a minor quibble next to the other things.

Though, Lindsey has also complemented her on her poetry - and the way she uses phrasing. He's also spoken about how she uses rhythm to convey a feeling, and she uses repetition in her words, but knows exactly when to stop in order to make the biggest impact. He said it was hard to explain, but it was all complementary, and I can't remember the exact quote, but I remember thinking, yeah, I know exactly what he means.

Eh, I take what these crazies say with a grain of salt. They blow smoke up our collective asses with the best of them. I'll never accuse her of having a way with words, but there are moments in a great deal of her songs where some lyrics will come along and knock you on your ass because they're so spectacular. I suspect that's what he was trying to convey, but got tripped up in his bull**** artiste speak, as he always does, that he actually believes makes him sound intelligent.

Confirmed? I didn't even know it was rumored.

I don't think she ever dated Frey either, but she's always talked about what a great friend he is -- or was.
CL Moon tried that years ago with her Stevie Nicks FAQ, but I think she sort of gave up.

Do you have the artiicle where Stewart says this? In his Q&A he says she kept her distance from him.

I was comparing what Lindsey did to say Mick or Don Henley. You cannot even compare his loyalty to them. I said he wrote some sarcastic lyrics but writing is the way he expressed what he was feeling and he never ran around saying the lyrics were about Stevie to make her look foolish. As for the kicking incident, I can see the difference in what he does in a drunken incident compared to how he normally handles the situation. Not taking the Belladonna album was to hurt STEVIE and she is the one running around telling the story to the press. I am specifically talking about how he talks about her publically. Calling her show a lounge act ripped off from FM is not anywhere near the same as saying she had an abortion and named a song for the spirit of a dead baby. Saying he would never go back to FM is not the same as saying they had an affair on the road.

BTW...Lindsey has even said that the kicking, mocking incident was "something coming through the veneer"....

I always thought Stevie was full of manure when she claimed that Lindsey cried after she played him the demos to her "Phoenix Four." If he cried, it's because his ears were bleeding and he was racking his brain, trying to figure out what the hell to do with them.

LMFAO!!! You are on a roll, my Dear.

Others don't, but I see the difference. I wouldn't equate anything LB ever did or said in the same category as her beloved Joe telling Howard Stern that Stevie was just a piece of a** to him. If I remember correctly he called her just a road f***. She wanted to give up her solo career for that? I see the Bella Donna incident differently, too. If Stevie fans think LB was rude to show disinterest when she gave him that album, what do you think it was like for him to have to take it? To me, she was being extremely insensitive not only handing him BD while they were working together, but made matters worse by telling the world of her percieved slight when he reacted in a way she didn't understand. Here is my new solo record I made without any help from you. Nevermind I slept with at least a half dozen men who did help me. I hope you like it anyway. I think her giving him BD and writing something personal on it was her way of reaching out to him - it seems she is always trying to soothe or placate him and he just acts like an ass  If he had any manners, he would have said "thank you" - instead, always the "all about me" artist  Though I really like LB, I did not admire his actions in this time period - then again, I am not really one for jealousy and I think he had plenty of it then and on many levels.

On edit - I get that LB was going through a lot in his own life and seeing La Nicks continue to become a far larger star than him must have been very hard to take, esp. since his crafting of her rough original songs got her there (though CM, KM, and MF certainly and significantly added and enhanced) - it must also have been hard to be eschewed for other and equally as singnificatly talented men, esp. when he was not really nice to her, but in many ways needed her in his stardom. But, in this period, he just seemed to outrageously smug and supercilious - I just found it unbecoming. So sue me

I agree with everything you said and point out it also applies just as much to Stevie in this time period as LB. Nobody wants to call that out, especially your "all about me" artist comment. You want to perceive her giving him BD as an act of reaching out, not as an act of it's all about me. That's becasue you see her from the "Stevie wonder" eyes of a solo career fan. I was a fan of her in the band first. I saw her going solo differently at the time. It made no sense to me why she would take that record to an FM session and give it to him like that. If she meant it soley as an act of reaching out, she would have said something about it ahead of time and given it to him privately in a non emotional setting, and then not bitched about it publicly if he didn't behave the way she wanted him to. What was she thinking? My guess is, as usual, Stevie was not thinking, at least not about anybody but herself. It was very insensitive of her not to see how hurtful that was. He didn't say anything bad or mean to her. He just didn't react and left the record behind, according to her. I'd say if that's all he did that day they're both better off. Of course his ultimate reaction in my view was Gypsy, the song that cemented her 80's image in the public mind forever (more than anything she did in her solo career), but nobody sees his work on that as having any merit anyway so...

But, I do think you never cut Stevie any slack and think she for the most part is self-serving, conniving and opportunistic - attributes you rarely are willing to put on anyone else in FM - at least and readily as you seemingly gleefully run to label La Nicks  I mean it sort of is beyond you that La Nicks could possibly have been trying to be nice by giving him a copy of the record personally instead of him hearing it on the radio, etc. I also think she knew it was hurtful no matter what she did, so she chose that way, but I think she was not purposfully mean for doing it that way - in other words, anywhere she gave it to him would have been a tense moment.

Also, I cannot find the quotes about the whole her giving her Bella Donna record to him. I need to re-read them. Do you have them? If so, please post them

Not to sound rude, but I don't keep quotes. I don't need them. I know what I heard and read when I read it. If people don't want other fan's impressions of events as they happened, that's cool. People can continue to piece together old quotes from the past to get what they think is an authentic view of these people and the events surrounding their careers. Works for most fans but not me, especially when it comes to Stevie quotes.

As for my view, you are telling me what I think again. OK, you are not mostly a fan of Stevie as a solo? I don't know how I got that idea, but I apologize for my mistake. It doesn't negate my view that you have an overly protective reaction to any criticism of Stevie and you never want to believe her motives are anything but sincere, heartfelt, and never self-serving. That's a lot different than saying I believe she is never that way, which is not true. She has a very big heart and I know she thinks her views and feelings are true and honest. I just believe she is, or was, a confused person and a lot of her behavior across the years shows that. I'd also say the same for the rest of FM, but that would not be a big deal to you. I criticize everyone in the band, but you only get your panites in a wad when the critique falls on La Nicks in some slight. Can't do anything about that. :xoxo:

The few times I've used quotes was to illustrate how loaded these things are, especially when taken out of context with the other events surrounding the time period. People reading about the past will not get the same impressions as people who read things when the events were going on. I don't get my views of the past by taking quotes from these people at face value. I never said I haven't quoted them or posted about their quotes. That's a different thing altogether. I just wanted to ask why didn't Stevie HAND the record to Lindsey, instead of leaving it on the console? I'm sure his ego was bruised from the record anyways, and then, by not personally handing it to him and saying "This is for you, I hope you enjoy it.", well..that just looks like a not-so-great decision. If she was the one in his place and HE had the super successful solo career, how would SHE feel? Not great, I'm sure.

Yes, he should have been the "bigger man" by saying "Thanks, Stevie.", but he didn't. He was hurting and pretty much showed her that by his actions.

I wondered that. It would have softened the blow to have her give it to him and say "I know this is an awkward moment, but I really want you to have this..." etc, etc, whatever she wrote on the record in fact.
BUT, perhaps she was a little scared. I know there are people I know I'm slightly afraid to say certain things to, Stevie was probably afraid of Lindsey's reaction.

And I watched him all day long, I watched him from like three in the afternoon until three or four the next morning, and he walked right out of that room without the record and I never forgave him for that."

As strand knows from our past discussions of Stevie quotes, this passage tells me a lot more about Stevie than it does about LB. She is the one speaking here. I believe when you use somebody's quotes to arrive at an overall impression of what's going on, it's only fair to use a person's words to judge them and not to judge the people they are dishing about. As in the case with the Joe Walsh comment, I think it makes him sound like a pig. I don't judge Stevie harshly becasue he said that. I judge her by her own comments saying she would have given up her career for him. Two different things. I've always maintained it's very unfair to judge other people in Stevie's world by the loaded comments she makes. By the same token, I would say all the pigs she has been with and have talked about her afterward are the ones who look bad in their comments. Not Stevie. I cut her a break in that she's had enough crap said about her to the point people are willing to believe she did everything everybody said. I'll be the first to say I don't believe all of the talk. I believe some, but not all, not even most. When I suggested in another thread she hasn't had an affair with Waddy, despite some of her own perceived comments to the contrary, most people disagreed with me. Again, I don't develop my impressions from looking up old quotes and judging people literally from the loaded, self-serving crap these quotes are often spinning. I go by my immediate impressions of things as they happen. I'm not saying my impressions are right. Your impressions are valid even if they conflict with mine.

No, I admit that, but I just object to your whole I know more I was there when it was happening because I was as well as were many on this board during different periods

I'm sorry you're offended when I try to illustrate the difference between how I developed my impressions and how other fans, most on this board, I'd guess, develop theirs. I never said my views are right. I never said they are better. I said they are different and I have a different view for a reason. If you don't want to know the reason, that's fine. Maybe some newer fans would like to know? Maybe not? Some fans would rather keep their fantasies and not know anything that doesn't fit their already pre-conceived notions. Others might want to hear a different view. Whatever floats your boat.

I think so to (and thanks BTW for posting that  ) -- I also think that Stevie knew the best way to handle that awkward situation. I mean in a perfect world, she could have come a runnin to her old friend and said "hey look what I did, I am so proud of it and I so want your approval because you and it mean the world to me - let's listen to it together and then call Waddy and talk about it" - but the world is not perfect and that probably would have gone over like a lead baloon  So, I think she presented it to him personally as a how of respect and IMO for validation, which he could not give, and in many ways understandably so.

I gave you my autograph and wrote some nice things, so don't be jealous of me if it becomes a hit and I have to do more without you and sleep with the rest of the music industry in preparation for my follow up albums. I who never said goodbye as I slipped away...but I gave you my #1 album to remember me by.

Chances are she had enough smarts to know that her solo career went over like a lead balloon to Lindsey and the rest of the band in the first place. She practically opened the front door and invited conflict by waltzing into the studio that day with an AUTOGRAPHED copy of her hot-off-the-press solo album to dole out to him. Sorry to chime in, but I totally agree here. How many years did the two of them do the horizontal bop???? Seriously, how necessary was an AUTOGRAPHED copy of her solo album, given their relationship and all that goes with it? I can certainly understand her desire to give him a copy and even wish for his approval. But an AUTOGRAPHED copy? C'mon!

Once again, it was not that - she clearly indicated she wrote a bunch of personal things on it and since none of us to my knowledge know what that text said, I think it is wrong to assume what she said was rude in any way, esp., considering many have opined that her letters and such are beautiful -- but to say it was an autographed copy just ignores the truth for your convenience.

According to her, she did not just sign it "Love Stevie Nicks" - she clearly states she wrote a bunch of personal things on it.

Though, Lindsey has also complemented her on her poetry - and the way she uses phrasing. He's also spoken about how she uses rhythm to convey a feeling, and she uses repetition in her words, but knows exactly when to stop in order to make the biggest impact. He said it was hard to explain, but it was all complementary, and I can't remember the exact quote, but I remember thinking, yeah, I know exactly what he means.True, he has waxed positive about her lyrics in recent years -- but you don't find him doling out many pats on the back until the 1997 reconciliation & after. Even his compliments -- the ones you're referring to -- are more along the lines of what Christine has said: Stevie, in spite of herself, manages to score a percentage of the time. That's the overall sense I get.

I feel very keenly & strongly that Stevie's albums, all in all, are not musical artifacts that Lindsey takes much interest in on an aesthetic level. They're simply not his kind of music. There isn't anything on her solo albums in terms of arrangement, orchestration, recording technique or production that could possibly be of much interest to him. Stevie's solo music on "Bella Donna," "The Wild Heart," "Street Angel" & the others is the epitome of West Coast adult-contemporary -- the very stuff that Lindsey has always tried to wrench Fleetwood Mac away FROM (& failing too much of the time).

If you could turn yourself into a fly & buzz on over to Lindsey's house, I doubt you'd see any of Stevie's solo albums on CD -- except the most recent one TISL. Again, that one followed the reconciliation, & Lindsey probably felt more inclined to give it a listen.

But let's face it: despite what he told Stevie about some of those TISL songs being great, do you honestly believe that it was on his Top Albums of 2001 list? No way in hell, Jose. (Also, what do you imagine his response would be if you asked him today to rattle off, without looking at the lyric sheet, a stanza or two from ANY of the songs on TISL?)

'Tain't his thing, her solo music. It's a question of musical taste, which was also at the root of his supposedly nasty comments about Fleetwood Mac circa 1990 - 1995 as well as his "lounge act" comments about Chris & Stevie in 1984.

These aren't "slams" from Lindsey: he wants -- he craves -- music that pushes envelopes on many levels, technical & artistic, & when music doesn't do that, he loses interest (remember his comments about Quarterflash?). He may have guilty pleasures -- we ALL do -- but we sure don't hear about many of them, & I guarantee you that they don't consist of ANYTHING by Heart, Journey, Kansas, Styx, Pat Benatar, REO Speedwagon or Foreigner, ad nauseum.

Much of what I hear is people who are so besotted with Stevie's lyrics & her singing that they don't particularly notice that MUSICALLY her solo albums are mostly restatements (or even rehashes) of conventions, not fresh new ideas.

I think he was rather bitter throughout these years about Stevie's fame & -- more important -- her connection with her audience (he wanted that audience to respond to "Tusk"), & his bitterness & sardonicism over it all manifested itself from time to time in rude, sometimes cruel & sometimes petulant behavior.

I think Stevie went from trying to get him to soften up to feeling so exasperated with his attitude that she'd just turn her back on it.

I also think it was one day on, one day off -- that sort of thing. You could see it onstage in those days, too. There must have been times when the two of them shared a laugh or a story or a hug, although as he grew more & more disillusioned with the artistic situation in Fleetwood Mac (much of which had more to do with Mick & the McVies than with Stevie) & as Stevie got more & more stoned, he grew extremely remote from her, & she him.

By the mid 1980s, they probably saw each other or spoke to each other only when the group had an album to make or a tour to prepare for, & even then it was probably just a civil, clipped relationship.

It would be a nearsighted mistake for anyone to think that Stevie was the only thing that was bugging Lindsey in the 1980s. He was dealing with a girlfriend who was also battling drugs, & finding the dream he once had for Fleetwood Mac -- a dream that had him bopping with excitement in 1978 -- dwindling rapidly amid the machinery of its own commercialism.

Anyone who thinks Lindsey spent the 1980s pining for Stevie Nicks is really loony tunes, as far as I'm concerned! :] :blob2: :blob1:

True words my friend - true words. They, to me, then beg the question of why LB came back after Tusk. I draw three conclusions from that:

1. He wanted to be near Stevie as he never really got over her, which was been proved a little true given all the confessions from 97 on.

2. He thinks all of the members of FM are talented individuals that enhance him and his music in some significant way - and I think he never really stopped thinking that - it was just the strife that got to him.

3. He knew that his brilliant music was perhaps too quirky to be a huge selling entity and he liked his lifestyle too much to sacrifice popularity for it.

Those are generalized statements, but I think there is some truth in all three.

I agree (once again and its a little scary  ) - - I do think though that LB never really got over La Nicks and vice versa, though I do think the mutual pining, curiosity, etc., went away for long periods of time. I think this because of the interaction on stage that I saw during the Mirage tour and the post-reconciliation comments. In the end, I am happy they are happy and I hope mutually so and on whatever level they found.

I completely agree with you, my friend. One can recognize talent and define it as such and opine about why it is such - without necessarily liking it. I can say that Celine Dion has talent and a beautiful, unique voice. Are her CDs on my shelf? Or in my top 10? No way. Ditto many other artists. Just cause I don't like 'em doesn't mean they aren't talented.

All I was saying, in response to someone else's post that I can't remember right now, is that Lindsey had in fact complemented her writing abilities.

You have no idea if that was the sentiment with which she gave it to him. I don't think she gave it to him like "I am a star here is my autograph". More like signing a note to somebody. She probably stroked his ego quite a bit;could'nt have done it without you blah blah blah. I think it was a classy thing to do. She was looking for approval from him (which she seems to need for some reason) He wasnt able to accept the gesture because of his hard feelings, whatever they may be. End of story.

As far as how the rest of the band should feel about her making a solo album? I don't see the problem. Mick and Lindsey had the freedom to make one, why should she be any different. Did they want her to always be dependant on them to get her songs recorded. The attitude seemed to be "we are the real musicians in the band and you are lucky we took you in the package deal". After dealing with their snobby attitude for so long I say she was pretty damn smart to go solo

Crucified? The way Stevie and some fans view the Bella Donna incident, you'd think it did amount to a crucifixion even though Stevie's own words show it was quite the contrary. It appears Stevie felt more insulted than I believe was warranted under the circumstances. If she had looked at the situation from another view, she might have thought twice about how her gesture would be received, and if it didn't go according to her expectations, the least she could have done was refrain from talking about it in public. She did feel the need to talk about it and that's her right. She never forgave him for it. Hey, if the cross fits.

Is the sarcasm emoticon just another smiley? Seems you haven't followed a thing I've said. In another post I said those bold face words were not the sentiments with which she gave it to him. My post was only an illustration of how someone looking at the situation differently could see her gesture as insensitive. You don't have to believe it was insensitive. Stevie didn't either. I think it was.

You don't have to believe there is a difference between her sleeping with everybody he knew while looking for help with her solo career, and him getting laid by random nobodies and a few steady girlfriends after they broke up. He didn't sleep with her close freinds and working associates. He didn't go looking for another woman to share his musical conquests along with his bed, unless you count Chris (just kidding) then return to her with the results expecting to be commended for a job well done.

LB did a lot of rude and insensitive things, too. I don't discount any of it. For instance, I think LB was rude to take his girlfriends to the studio if he had them around Stevie. It was one of those tit for tat things they both engaged in that made the working situation hard for eveyone. Both were self-centered and childish, but if you want to think Stevie always only meant well and LB only meant harm, you're entitled.

You haven't read my post. I will be the last one to say that LB was innocent. I'm normally not into fanprojection on the personal life-level (only on the musical  ) . i concluded that out of the discussion that is totally subjective and by people that don't know sh*t about what happened between those two. But If you know your ex has been dumped by YOU, maybe for the BEST reasons in the world, I think it's incredible insensitive to give him something you made without him, when you know he's green from jealousy and bitter by this "second break-up". You don't have to be a psychologist to see that it is a big risk in hurting feelings. Even if it said " dear lindsey thanks for guiding me with all your guts to the point where I got the selfesteem to try it on my own, couldn't have done it if you weren't there the last ten years, thanks with love, Stevie" he would read " thanks mate, I'm so famous thanks to you that I don't need you anymore. On a personal level the break-up brought us wealth, no I leave you again and do it all over on the fame-level. Without you".

It's not that Stevie MEANT it that way, but it is incredible stupid to assume he would be proud of you at that moment in time and with their history. I agree, she could NOT have done good in any way at that time. Only by not bringing out a solo-album and stick to the Mac.

I get a little sick by the assumption that I would defend LB in any situation because I'd not. I think he's a touchy, whiney, neurotic and selfindulged prick besides a warm and intelligent human being.
And a genious in his art, yes. Now I want you to be as reasonable about your " La Nicks" as I am about LB, too.

Get over it Jason, she made a error in judgement. If I were him I'd have dealt her one. If I were him I would also have issues with narcissism.

wow, some posts later Lux said it in thirtyone words.

On this board why does everyone have to be either for Stevie or for Lindsey?
Sure Stevie can be a big ole flake, but I think Lindsey can be too.
There does seem to be a tendency for those who love Lindsey to take the piss out of Stevie and for those who love Stevie to constantly criticise Lindsey's actions. I think they're both as bad and as good as each other, myself.

I think in the case of the Bella Donna record incident, Stevie was trying to do something nice but really the gesture was ill-advised and back-fired. I don’t think there’s anything more to it than that personally.

a google of "joe walsh" "stevie nicks" "howard stern" "road ****" reveals no results. I would like to see the interview though - anyone got a copy?

This was from approximately 1994...I heard it on the radio with my own ears and have pretty much disliked Walsh ever since. Howard was going on and on about how hot Stevie was in the seventies and how she is fat now. Jerk. Anyhoo, Joe laughed her off, totally dismissed her and said she was basically just a "road fuc#". He used those exact words. I was shocked to say the least. No way in Hell was Joe really her greatest love ever...but I am sure he broke her heart the most.

I don't think people take into consideration that they have a love-hate relationship. If they had a hate-hate relationship it would probably be easier on everybody ;) . As much as some want it to be, things are never black and white with those two so it is very difficult for us to figure out what is/was going on. Hell, Lindsey could'nt even define the relationship to Charlie Rose  There are always going to be extreme emotions between them. Sometimes they result in brilliance like the Tusk doc performance of Angel and The Dance's Silver Springs other times they result in childish behavior (from both) Like Stevie said they will never be blasé about eachother.

It's nice to know gallantry is alive and well and living within Joe Walsh.

Of course his ultimate reaction in my view was Gypsy, the song that cemented her 80's image in the public mind forever (more than anything she did in her solo career), but nobody sees his work on that as having any merit anyway so...

couple of comments:
I agree that Stevie prob WAS reaching out to LB with the BD album but IMO, Lindsey prob saw that album as the death of a dream and therefore (I imagine) couldnt bring himself to acknowledge it in the way Stevie expected.
Maybe it was insensitive of her to use that particular way to reach out, but people do impetuous things and I think she was understandably proud of her effort (I wont comment on the "sleeping her way to the top" bits, because I give them no more relevance than she apparently has)
As for Joe Walsh being one of her great loves: after what he said on Howard Stearn, all I can say is a huge resounding EWWWWWWWWWw.

Finally, the Gypsy Video is one of my all time favorites, and the look on Lindseys (and Stevies) face during that dance scene says more than any interview could EVER say.

Hello - I have repeatedly said that La Nicks has done some bad things and I think that giving LB this stupid record was a poor choice on her part though I think she meant it in a good way. What more do you want me to say?

I don't think you can blame Stevie's lack of empathy on Lindsey

See, there you go again assuming Stevie came from a bad place and did not empathize. That clearly is not the case but people are just so quick to hate Stevie and think she has nothing but bad intentions. Whatever.
