So, after saying I wasn't going to go, I called Kelly this morning and said, screw it. We're going. So, I left work at 4:30, made it home a little after 5:00 and by 5:45, was on the road with Kelly to the Borgata Event Center in Atlantic City--ticketless. For the first time in 13 SYW shows, 2 Stevie in Vegas and 2 Stevie with Don, Kelly and I were willing to settle for crap seats--we just really wanted to be there. Generally, she and I have excellent luck so I wasn't totally worried--and our luck prevailed once again.

We arrived shortly after 7:00 and headed to the box office. We were told the center section, row 5 was available but then the man behind the counter had a better idea...the section to the left of the center section had seats available on the aisle of the 5th row. We'll take them. So, tickets in hand, we check out the venue. No one checked for cameras or anything. They stamped my hand and Kelly and I went in to check out the venue. There honestly is not a bad seat in the house. It felt more like a convention hall as opposed to a venue but even 5th row aisle, we were on top of the stage. We asked one of the guards what time Vanessa would be on--8:00 and Stevie would take the stage at 8:45. We went to grab a bite to eat and then returned to find that the venue was slowly filling--all except the first three rows in front of our section.

At 8:00, Vanessa came on stage looking amazing. Even if you're not completely familiar with her music, if there's one thing you do on this tour, arrive early to hear her and watch her play. Not only is she hysterical but her voice was amazing and her playing was phenomenal. I'm really glad Stevie has her opening because I can't think of anyone better.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/meadowsoprano/stevie%20atlantic%20city%20june%2030th/DSC00651.jpg

When her set was through, she left the stage to much applause and a standing ovation. She thanked Stevie's fans for being so gracious to her and with that, she left the stage. The house lights came back on, I looked at Kelly and we decided it was time to make our way up front. With the okay from the gaurd, Kelly and I went from 5th row to 2nd row aisle (and before Edge, to the stage). Turns out many of the comp ticket holders did not show up. However, they were not allowing people to sit in the front row (and those holders did end up showing up).

I will say that Stevie looked tired. In fact, someone asked me (I guess I look like a Stevie regular  ) if she was sick. Even Stand Back was rather lackluster for her this evening but she still put on one hell of a show. Fall From Grace was fierce and her version of Circle Dance sans Don was incredibly heartfelt--you can just tell the song means a great deal to her--especially the ending "let you go..." as she trails off. There were many lyric additions I hadn't heard before including the end of Edge (Kelly will have to fill in the details). Rock and Roll (happy, Lux and Livia? ) was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Tonight was apparently the first night she came out with a TOPHAT ON!

Also, Vanessa Carlton changed into black and sang backing vocals with Sharon and Jana (complete with learned sasser movements) on the song which was awesome.

Great review. I love that picture of the top hat and pants. Finally, I can actually see the pants! I am concerned that you say she seemed tired and sick. Not to sound selfish, but the Florida shows are approaching and I don't want her to cancel! Do you think she was just under the weather and in a little funk or did it seem like she was coming down with something serious?

I knew you'd end up going . Great review and pictures, as always. Thank goodness you got the top hat... another potential pants crisis was narrowly averted! Vanessa singing backup is pretty cool. Did she have "pet the dog" down? :p

Diamond....vocally she sounded fine, great in fact. She looked tired. The high roller next to me asked me if she normally "looks like that". I asked him what he meant abd he said "does she normally perform with her eyes closed like that?" I think you can see what he is talking about in almost every photo taken of Stevie during this tour, even the ones in the newspaper, her eyes look extremely heavy...like she is just tired. I thought it was during the first half of the show this was most obvious...she definately got more energy and enthusiasm when she got to Sorcerer. She really got into this song with extensive hand motions to emphasize each word. She was sexy and confident throughout the entire song. She screamed the "misery" line. During OTR...she yelled, loudly..."I'M TIRED".
Ok..during Sorcerer, on the video screen, there is a fascinating drawing. It is a handdrawn sketch of a woman a beautiful woman, with long flowing hair. Well, on the back of this woman is a skeleton and it looks BIZARRE. This photo is up for the entire song. (sort of reminds me of the Mirage photos by LB) So...a woman who carries lots of skeletons on her back?
She was funny and charming before HAEWAFY. She stumbled over her words, trying to spit out some infor about One.org. She then said she was going to read it so we could all have the correct info. She proceeds to read a long fact sheet explaining the cause and urging people to go to the website. She really seems to want to make this point......for some reason. She then dedicates the song to all the "children who need your help".
So, what else. IMHO, Stevie really kicked Sorcerer, FFG and R and R out of this park. It was on those three songs that Stevie really came alive. She was adorable in the top hate and pants and for the first time genuinely smiled as she rocked out.
BATB and CD were as excellent and Stevie's vocals were committed. The end of CD was highly emotional and intense with the lines "its time to let you go" really resonating with Stevie. She looked extremely serious and committed to these lines.
Waddy was introduced in an interesting way. She started out by saying "Let me just say that I have known Waddy since 1971 and we are great friends. We knew him four years before FM".
Landslide..Stevie said we "probably all have heard this song." She proceeds to wave someone up from the front row and asks the girl her name. She dedicates Landslide "to Jen". Big audience sing a long and Jana continues to scream the harmonies and ruin the song for me. Plus, LB is highly missed and I swear Stevie does not know what to do with herself during the guitar solo and just turned around with her back to the audience, slightly rocking.
One more funny thing. Crazy, drunk audience man who was sitting near Liquid Blue was ejected from the show by Marcus. During HAEWAFY I saw Stevie checking out this guy who was yelling, crying, dancing and sticking out like a sore thumb. At the end of the song, she marched up to Waddy who was walking out and waved her arms around at him. Waddy then waved his arm at Marcus and walked over to him. Not a minute later Marcus was down in the audience, pulling said drunk man..with the help of venue security..out of the middle of his row. He was tossed. So Stevie meant business.
Overall a good show but better the second half. Stevie does look extremely tired and lacked the energy during the first half that she had at earlier shows. Stand Back was pretty half hearted, imho. When she took both my hands during Edge, I looked right at her too, so its not like my observations are from twenty rows back. She did perk up with Sorcerer and vocally she was incredible.

Oh and the venue was more like a big conference room, holding 3,700 people. Not sold out, unfortunately. Vanessa was quite enjoyable and I can see why Stevie digs her. I totally liked her opening set and found her to be an interesting young artist.

After reading back my last post I want to clarify something. When I described drunk man being ejected, I failed to point out that HAEWAFY is quite early in her set now. For those who do not realize this, I want to clarify...this guy was tossed EARLY on in her show. The set seemed to change a bit with Enchanted opening, SDMHA into OTR, Dreams, Rhiannon, Stand Back...not sure what was next, could have been Has Anyone or Sorcerer.

Also there was no ending to GDW other than the "shadows". There was a loud amp buzz and this might have thrown Stevie off but she did not do any "babybababyby you should see meo or save me now"s. This was another one of those songs that seemed rather lackluster compared to the kick ass versions with Don. Gasp...did I just say that? With Don?

Thanks for the review and pics, Marissa & Kelly. :) She needs to take care of herself and not push it too hard. We're going to see her DC show on the 10th and hopefully she'll be feeling better by then (not so much for the show, but I hate to think of her being exhausted and having to get up there).

PS...I just checked out her entire tour schedule and it makes me exhausted just to look at it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v128/taryn75/sleeping-smiley-004.gif

Thanks again girls......Oh and Marissa said their was a lyric change at the end of EO17. What was it....cause my new fave is Vegas......

"IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU......SOUNDS LIKE YOU!!!!"

Which of course begs the question.....sounds like who Steve's? Cause we know now...after last night.....it ain't Waddy!!!!!!! Ha!!! ;)

I always liked Don's music but his abortion comment really put a bee in my bonnet about him. That was utterly classless but she has apparently forgiven him, so I can too. Yup, I miss Will. That boy was scrumptious.

Okay..the end of Edge.
"somewhere deep in the middle of the night, I still think about you"....."somewhere, deep in the middle of the night, MY BABY...I think about you"....hand shakes....."I KNOW WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE....I KNOW WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE....IT SOUNDS LIEK....YOUOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
It was a good version and the howl was the longest I ever heard. Marissa and I had to pick our jaws up off the floor. I held both her hands in mine during the walk and looked right into her eyes again. Poor baby looks exhausted and the makeup she has piled on to try to hide the bags under her eyes only makes it worse. Still drop dead gorgeous and I only commented on her looking tired out of love and concern. I hope she is taking care of herself. I know she has been hubbing for extended periods of time and I hope she can keep that up. The less travelling she has to do, the better.

Thanks so much Marissa (and Kelly) for the reviews and pics!!! I hope Stevie feels better soon--maybe she is just in a bad phase w/ regards to her Epstein Barr virus thing; that's the virus that causes chronic fatigue syndrome, and I've heard that it never entirely leaves you. Hopefully Stevie will get her rest and take care of herself, and it will right itself. Sometimes people have their ups and downs when it comes to that stuff. Some days are better than others.

Ok, I have a question for everybody: what are Stevie's bodyguards names? I know she has one who walks w/ her during the Edge walk, and then she has another who is basically with her whenever she goes out before and after a concert, and who hangs out on the side of the stage during concerts. I've heard the name Marcus a lot, and I've also heard the name Raul. What's the deal w/ that?

Thank you for the Edge Yell....it's my new obsession. She rocks the hell out of that song and I personally think it is one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Robert Plant (thanks Livia) :o ain't got **** on Stevie Nicks!!!

Okay, call me a beotch, but methinks Miss Nicks is packin' a bit more junk in that trunk than a month ago! It stands to reason why she seems so tired . Hopefully a nice massage at the Borgata will help elevate her spirits for tonight.

I dont think it is that she is got that much junk in the trunk hahahah I think the dress with all the layers makes her look alot bigger then she really is...because the pants make her look super skinny...I wonder why she doesnt drop the layered dress look.

She honestly isn't--in fact, she keeps shrinking. Take a look at the picture of the black pants and tophat. I think you're seeing the layers she was wearing at that time.

I'm so glad the hat is back..the feather isn't quite as tall as it was on the TISL Tour...And can I just say how weird it is that this lady can just simply wear some black pants and look 15 yrs younger, and 20 lbs lighter? She looks so hot there...why doesnt it do that to all of us when we wear black pants?

They really would! Haha..but I dont think that will happen...if she did that there would be a slight chance, especially during the kick, that something could go wrong, and we might actually get a glimpse of her backside in pants...with no skirt thing covering it

Awesome pictures! I love the pants.

Honestly, though, Stevie's always packed junk in the trunk...even in her "skinny" days. She's just got the ghetto booty...she can't help it. And, coming from someone with a ghetto booty, no matter how skinny you really are, if you're photographed from behind... It's not cute. It probably happens to J.Lo and Beyonce too.

Oh Gosh..she looks so much better and younger with the bangs. The parted hair was ghastly. To be quite honest, Stevie didn't smile much last night either. She did a few times but it did remind me of the beginning of the SYW tour as far as her mood. Her eyes looked way different too. After 130 SYW shows, her eyes still looked bright and open. I can't say the same about them on this tour.

By the way..we got a full on performance of the "hula" during OTR again and it was adorable. Full arm movements and hip and belly swaying and it went on for about 20-30 seconds. Her eyes were closed the entire time as she was getting into her dancing. She looked so sensual, sexy and like she was in a world of her own. Very cute moment. :D

That is so cool that you were Stevie's "muse" as far as hats are concerned! I hope she continues to wear the top hat, I'd love to see it! I wonder if she just sent one of her "people" out to buy a top hat or if she travels with a huge case full of wardrobe and she just pulled it out of her trunk?

Your father and my grandmother should hang out. She gave me her Borgata card so I could park for free and then handed me newspaper clippings of ads for the show and told me about the billboards  I told my father I was debating on going tonight--he just stared at me.

Ocean City is still fairly clean but i've never cared much for Wildwood. There are still rides in AC but a few years back, a few people died on one of the piers (I forget what they were on) and I think they closed down some things.

Do you know i've never been to Lucy (the elephant)? I think it must be illegal to live here and not have ever been there. Ahh...someday, perhaps.

PBS ran a doc on shores a few weeks ago & Lucy was featured.
Lucy is my friend Porky's favorite place on earth. And she is obsessed with the Mummers.

Well, I was going to leave work in 30 minutes and just head down there and see what I ended up with for the show tonight. However, my concern is the storm we're about to get socked with combined with the shore traffic that's piling up on the road :distress: Looks like i'm not going to go.

We used to go the Boardwalk a LOT when I was a kid, visiting family in Philly. I remember the Planter's Peanuts dude, and still have the chalk drawings that were done of me and my bro.

I remember going through some haunted house ride and my uncle saying, "I've been more scared going through the Shell car wash than that ride!"

I remember the PP dude too.
My dad's cousin was the mechanical man, & my dad & his friends used to go to try to make him laugh. If he laughed, he was fired.

I was terrified of Brigantine Castle!

I saw a snippet of that show. I may have been there as a child but I don't think I was.

I know we've talked about this before but I will never understand the obsession with people strolling up and down a road in ridiculous costumes  Apparently, your friend is from Philly.

Forget the castle, i'm terrified of Brigaintine. I don't know where all of the bugs come from but apparently, they all procreate there.

She lives in Baltimore but grew up on the Main Line, and her mom & my dad grew up in AC at the same time, though she & I didn't meet until we were on a college program in Chicago.
She's the one where three of us shared a TINY studio for a month a year later.

I'm in Marlton/Cherry Hill and it's rush hour. There's no train near here unless I want to head up to Riverside and i'm not sure what that train goes :( I'd have to go home first anyway--i'm wearing my work stuff

Yup.
And she puts on shows with sock puppets, water ballet, and rollerblades.

So she's essentially the female version of you only at a museum instead of in a classroom?

Thanks a lot Marissa and Kelly your reportage was superb!

I'm another hats lover and think she looks great with the top hat. It was also nice to see Vanessa Carlton on stage with her, who knows, maybe before the tour ends they will even make a duet. I hope so, I'm really curious to know how their voices would sound together. I'm sorry she was tired, hope she would take time to rest.

Seriously, what does she actually do?

thank you soooo much for sharing! review and pix are awesome!! It makes me wish I had "Stevie" friends so I could just pick up and go to a concert--that would justify me bankrupting my credit card--going alone does not.

Thanks for the review and pics!

Thanks for the reviews and awesome pics, guys!!! I hope Moonchilde doesn't mind me posting this... but I think she may have had something to do with the tophat!! Moonchilde wore one with some awesome feathers to the Detroit show, and was 3rd row! She said Stevie DEFINITELY noticed and looked at her with great interest (you could practically SEE the lightbulb going off above Stevie's head!) And then Stevie starts wearing one again?? Coincidence??? I think NOT, Moonchilde!!
I didn't know that was you moonchilde! haha. I saw you walking up the aisle, and I pointed you out to my mom, "Hey look, that lady is wearing a top hat, kinda like what Stevie used to wear." Yeah..my mom didn't care, but I still thought it was cool. lol.
Speaking of Detriot...anyone see that girl in a green, flowy peasant top, imitating Stevie during BATB? She was on the left side, walking down the stairs. She wasn't making fun of her, but she had her little movements down to a tee. It was hilarious!

Seriously, what does she actually do?

In addition to her job as curator, she joined a water-ballet musical performance group & founded another group that performs musicals on rollerblades & scooters, often using puppets. One early puppet performance was devoted to Abba, another to Manillow's Lola, but I've heard now the group does original musicals.
I wouldn't know for sure, she lives across the country, and I'm scared to attend.

 Oh wow--yeah--that's quite odd--sitting in and audience when that's going on--you'd end up in total stitches regardless of whether or not the content supposed to be funny.

It took me awhile to be able to even look at this. Beautiful pics, it looked amazing.

I actually had decent seats for this show but I didn't go. :( I am sad I missed Stevie, esp since it was in such a small venue, but that's life.

I am so happy for those who got to go!
