I've brought this idea up before but I thought I'd give it another shot. Another site I visit does an "American Idol" type thing with fans singing their favorite singers' songs. I thought it would be an awesome idea for us all to do something similar. Not necessarily a contest but just a plain cd of fans either singing Stevie songs, remixing Stevie songs on their own, playing the songs on guitar/piano, reading poetry or whatever you want to do and then circulate it among other fans for listening and feedback just for FUN, no criticisms. I really think it would be lots of fun and give us all something to focus on and work on and it involves Stevie! And I'd be willing to cover cost of cd's, etc. as long as those who request copies provide postage. I've got ideas on rules and deadlines, but wanted to get feedback on the idea first.

do you think it would be fun (I DO)

I like this idea a lot!

Don't give up yet, I'm sure there are more than a few ledgies who would be interested. Maybe they just haven't seen the thread :)

Sure, but you need to provide more details for those of us with less fertile minds.

For example; if someone wanted to donate a singing song to the project, are we supposed to come up with a way to record it on our own? If so, many people, like myself, lack proper equipment to be able to do that... or at least if we have a way to record ourselves, it sucks so badly we would never want to share it with the public. I mean, using a PC microphone and soundcard is a totally lousy way to record yourself singing Dreams, believe me. The only other option is to rent studio time and who has that kind of money?

That said... do you have any other ideas?

Laura

PS: I've already toyed with the idea of doing a home video using my screenplay of Thrown Down... for me, that would be a lot easier to accomplish (I think) than a vocal recording, unless there's another way to do a vocal recording that I'm not aware of right now.

This would be a blast! And I know people would do it because a few years ago there was a thread where dozens of Ledgie posted MP3 of homemade accapella (did I spell that right?) Mac songs.

I think it's a cool idea too!! When I read the idea I thought it was great but had many of these same concerns. I wouldn't have the first clue how to send something that sounds decent without recording time. So...with a little direction, I think we could make it happen.

Another idea would be for people who are in bands and cover FM/Stevie stuff live to post mp3s... they don't have to be perfect, but I'd like to hear how folks interpret these songs.

My wife and I are in a band, and we have "Don't Let Me Down Again" in our set list. We figure you can't go wrong with a Buckingham Nicks tune in Birmingham.

I think this would be a hoot. :blob2:

I think the whole project is a fine idea, the kind of thing I like.

I think it would be fun, and I am happy to contribute MP3s from my band or by myself, just let me know more when you decide :)

wow - thanks for all the replies. my idea was to have those participating send in mp3's, either by email or mail (on CD) and I would load them. I would accept them until a certain cut-off date and then make the CDs with everyone's contribution and send out to those who request copies. As I stated earlier, I'd be happy to provide the CDs as long as those who request copies of the CD send either postage or money to cover postage.

I say send whatever you want. Whatever you think honors Stevie and her music and would be interesting for other fans to hear. As far as how to record this, I don't really have any suggestions as I will be using my computer...yeah, the sound isn't like a studio but none of us can really afford that and look at the Stevie demos we listen to...imagin how she feels...lol.

Anyway, if we think this is a go, let me know and I'll set a deadline to start accepting mp3s.

06-30-2005, 10:01 AM
I will be happy to send you an MP3, just let me know the date to have it mailed to you, and your email address :) Then I will pay to get a copy of the finished CD with everyone, is that right? Cool idea :)

Thanks!

Thanks Barbara.

Let's set the deadline for all entries as August 15. That gives everyone a month and a half to record and get their submissions in. I think that's enough time. If the consensus is that it isn't enough time, we will extend it until the end of August.

Also, with regard to getting the submissions to me, it may not be a great idea to send them via email as my mailbox stays full as it is and I can just imagine lots of problems down the road with so many attachments. Just email me and I will send you my address and you can mail the entry on CD, just make sure it's clearly labeled. So, to that end:

The Gold Dust Project is in effect!

Submissions: singing, spoken word, instrumentals, etc. that are either Stevie Nicks' works or inspired by Stevie Nicks - other types of submissions must be approved. Please submit the entry in mp3 format on a clearly marked CD with the title of the work and your name as you want it listed. Please email me, [email protected], for my mailing address.

Deadline: August 15, 2005

Once all entries are recieved, it will take me about a week to get everything organized and ready to begin shipping the completed project. If you would like to receive a copy of The Gold Dust Project, please email me at the addy above for my address and please send $2 (is that reasonable?) to cover cost of postage and packaging. You may begin these requests now.

If anyone would like to submit possible covers for the cd artwork (ELIUD :)) - email me.

Anything I didn't cover or any questions, email me...good luck.

 Should we "sign up" for certain songs, so that you don't have 13 versions of the same song by different people? I would love to hear all different songs, or maybe a limit of two versions per song or something? hey, maybe this can be a two cd set :) Cool Idea!
Thanks!~Barbara

My band covers Go Your Own Way on occassion.

I'm 'being Christine' (I think I'm singing her part), playing organ, but I do the Stevie harmony from The Dance. ("Packin' up" etc)

However, I have been working on a few other FM covers, but they're not Stevie songs. I can pick something...

BTW, if we're sending in CDs, why MP3 when we can use WAV or AIFF or something non-lossy? Personally, I only use MP3 if I absolutely have to. :P

I really like this idea. It's cool. I would love to participate because I can play almost every Stevie song (and a bunch of FM tunes) on the keyboard. I have been praciticing in my free time for a few years now. But the problem is, I don't have any way to record myself, and I'm not sure how to turn something into an mp3. :distress:

good idea...I didn't think about this. There will be a limit of 2 versions of any Stevie song. At this point, no one has signed up. I will start a new thread so we all can keep up.

the only reason I said mp3 is because that's all I have to use to put these songs on CD. if you send other formats I can't be sure my computer will load them.

if you have a computer there should be some type of recording device loaded...true, the quality may not be something you'd like, but test it out. if not, there are lots of programs you can buy that allow you to record something on your computer.
