who has mentioned they will upload the Philly DVD to a torrent website once they have received their copy....So if this happens soon I would just hold onto my $$$ and take the torrent.

it's a website where you can download full shows... i don't "torrent" myself, but i know many people who do.. apparently it takes forever and a day to upload a show.. but hey, i guess it's a nice gesture on their part

What a waste of time. I'd rather just trade. And also if you download it you have to put it on a disk to watch it on tv and that's another whole process.

Actually it is a form of downloading / uploading / sharing of shows in a lossless format. Yes it can take awhile to download shows, but there is no loss in quality. The tracks are in .wav form not mp3.
Here's a site that should answer all your questions. It's actually kind of cool the way it works.. but it can take awhile to wrap your head around.. but once you get it, it works pretty simply.

It doesn't take long at all. I've uploaded complete shows in two hours flat. And you can just leave your client running in the background while you do other things.

Well,.. i don't usually have two hours to waste on uploading/downloading just one show.. i think i'd rather trade for it.. burn 2 CD's, takes 5 minutes.. i doubt anyone can really notice a difference in sound quality of a ripped AUD show vs. a downloaded AUD show anyway... Torrents is more for people who don't have a big collection of shows.. for those people, it's a good way to get stuff for free..

You're not wasting two hours, you can leave your computer on when you're not using it or just let the client run in the background while you're using your computer. And it's not for people without a big collection, it's the people with big collections who breathe life into torrents. Without them, half the **** that's out there would never see the light of day. Where the hell else are you going to find old soundboard recordings of Ike and Tina or rare and uncirculated Stevie/Mac shows? I know that if bit torrents had never been invented, I never would have shared some of the stuff I have for the simple fact that so many out there like to butcher bootlegs when they get their paws on them. It's a good way to get quality stuff without the hassle of burning stuff, dealing with traders, going to the post office, and waiting to get your stuff in the mail.

Half?? you sure about that? I recorded 10 shows this year, and 7 of them i have put out in circulation via trade, not torrent... as far as i know, only 3 other people have recorded QUALITY audio from the 2005 shows.. Most of them, including mine were available via trade only... sure, some shows are put out on torrents which are excellent quality.. but to imply half is exxaggerating just a bit...

right.. but it is time consuming and my point remains that you would not be able to distinguish the difference between an AUD recording via burned CD or an AUD recording via torrents... it's not as if the world of torrents has introduced dozens of soundboard recordings that were never before heard.. for those who don't trade on a regular basis, yes.. for those who do, no..

I was speaking about bootlegs in general.

Respectfully, that's bull****.
I couldn't count on my hands the uncirculated soundboards and recordings that I've gotten via torrents. I never introduced any soundboards myself, but I circulated two recordings that never saw the light of day and that's what makes bit torrents so great; you get to hear stuff that no one has ever circulated before.

it's the Napster for bootlegs... you can buy CD's or you can download them... it's more economical to download vs. buying CD's of course.. but it cost no more to trade than it does to download from torrents (maybe a few extra cents for postage and CD-R's)..

It is when it comes to Mac/Stevie/Lindsey shows. Most bootleg traders out there won't even touch their boots with a ten foot pole because Mac fans don't take care of the recordings and the quality is utter crap in comparison to most other artists. That's an accepted fact.

but it also helps those who are just starting out to build a larger collection. When I first started collecting I had only about 3 traders who helped me out (Sara M., Jennifer G. & Brianna, Who is no longer an active trader) cause otherwise I was left to try to obtain bootlegs via eBay
I trade people for discs that are currently available on torrents on a regular basis since I don't have a PC to be able to download (Or upload) shows myself...I have found great sounding shows on torrents (Non-Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks related) that I might not have been able to obtain elsewhere.
I also continue to trade music too which is also fine, I see no difference in trading vs. torrent, Both accomplish the same goal, Getting the music out to the fans!!!

Well, i take care of mine... and funny, i dont recall doing any current trades with you for any of my 7 shows that i have offered... which means, either you dont collect the amount of shows you claim you do, or you are getting these shows from another source.. if that is the case, then you are getting a copy of a copy.. the more copies made, the less quality you have, thus a "crap" recording...

I haven't traded for any of the new shows from the Two Voices tour because I don't want them right now and don't have the time to trade boots. I've got the DVD audios of the Vegas shows and that's all I need at the moment. And since when is quality lost when you make an exact copy of a disc? It's not, unless you burn at a speed higher than 2x or 4x and phuck it up with diginoise and litter it with recording flaws.

I agree with Brian J. There's no reason for conflict. Both are valuable. Bittorrenting is great for those who don't have anything to trade, who don't want to wait 2 weeks for their shows to arrive, or who want stuff they can't find on many trade sites like DVDs. Old-fashioned trading is great because at this point, the shows that are being torrented are only a small percentage of what's out there, and trading opens you up to more. I do both, and I am grateful for both. It's all good!

Brian, its a nice thing...torrenting...you do it to share with people...I dont ask for anything in return ...I dont think anyone does... and the quality of the torrent is the quality of the cd it is on pretty much but a lot of the torrents posted are upgrades for the older versions of them out in circulation. The quality, as long as it's not MP3, is the exact same quality as it would be on the CD it came from. It's the same as copying a CD/DVD for someone. As long as it's done at the right speeds, there is absolutely no loss in quality.

Again, it depends on the source. Say someone gets a copy from someone who has the master recording, then trades it to someone but burns it at a high speed and the CD is copied with diginoise and errors. That CD will then be traded and circulated to others who will then trade it and copy it once again. With torrents, the guy with the master could upload it and effectively get rid of all the sub-par copies by doing so.

Agreed 100%.

I have torrented a lot and the more you do it the easier it gets...I was doing 2 at 1 time with the Vegas shows. Sometimes it can be overwhelming but you get used to it and you eventually get faster at it.

To seed and upload a show, yeah, it's easy. But it takes time to compile the tracks, the info files, and package the torrent file.
Like I said, I hope you never enjoy the end results of the bit torrent users that you so gleefully belittle.

 belittle?? who's belittling? certainly not me... i just don't agree with the philosophy from the recorder's standpont... if they are a fan, why they would torrent their shows instead of trading.. i wouldn't, but that's me...
and i'm sorry you feel i'm not worthy of a torrented show... but i dunno, i think i kinda earned the right to enjoy at least a couple, don't ya think? :wavey:

But there are a lot of nice and giving people out there who choose to share what they have. Just because you have a recorded show that you did personally doesnt mean you HAVE to be obligated to hold it all for yourself and make a profit off of it...same thing with torrenting it. No one is holding a gun to your head to do either. It is the torrenter's decision. WHoO HOo new word...Torrenter haha I torrent, therefore, I am.

Jeremy, i have no doubt in my mind that if and when you get your grimey little hands on those shows, that you will torrent them.. in my opinion, it wouldnt be your place to do so, because not only did you not record them, but you do not have the master copy...

Torrenting a show is basically the same as trading by snail mail except it's a lot faster. It's an alternate.

Okay, what gives anyone the right to claim ownership of any of these recordings in the first place? If you torrent something or trade or whatever, whether it's your master recording, or someone else's master recording, it's ultimately the property of the artist. Period. And if you introduce the recording to the world at large, you should doing so solely for the purpose of "sharing the groove." You should not be doing it if your sole objective is to benefit from it somehow- whether it is to make money, amass additional recordings, etc. The reward should be knowing the pleasure that it gives to other fans of the music you love. And once it is out in the public domain, you have zero control over its disposition. Not only is that appropriate, it is reality. And if anyone thinks they have some kind of god complex over the recordings they made, then they should just keep their f*cking recordings to themselves. I certainly don't want bootleg recordings that have strings attached.
That being said, the beauty of torrents, as already mentioned many times, is that it is a level playing field in which people with zero to overflowing collections can equally enjoy commercially unavailable recordings. At the same time it is a forum for people who want to share, foster and nurture the love for great music selflessly, as it should be. Admittedly, I think the hardcore torrenters get a bit carried away with the "lossy" issue, but that's just a minor quirk in an otherwise great system.

A. Bit torrents are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've gotten SO MANY kick ass dvds and cds from all kinds of artists from all kinds of eras that I never ever would've known even existed before!! The process was slightly confusing at first, but I figured it out. TRUST ME when I say, if I can learn it ANYONE on the planet can learn it. IT IS WELL WORTH THE "TROUBLE"!!!
B. I guess it's pretty obvious by now there's just not gonna be ANY recent SN dvds torrented anytime this century. Once again I say, I can't afford to buy any and I have nothing to trade that everyone doesn't already have (that is, until I figure out how to convert my VHS stuff to dvd-which will be awhile). As far as trading, even IF I could scrape up postage money I'm not just gonna send it off with some very valuable (to my broke ass) blank dvds to a stranger and just HOPE that person sends me something back. Most of you folks seem to know each other, but I don't. It's just easier for me to download it from a torrent site and leave my window open so others can download it from me. That way I feel like I'm contributing at least in a tiny way.
C. Off topic, but has anyone downloaded the great Tom Petty 1977 Rockpalast DVD from dimeadozen? Jesus God man, it is excellent. He does a rocking version of his "new" song-I Need to Know!! The whole show is amazing and I highly recommend it. Check it out if you're a TP fan!

There is an "instructional" thread in the Rumours section about the torrent thing. That's where I learned how. Just take a deep breath and do one step at a time. If it gets a little overwhelming-it did for me at first-just stop for awhile and come back later. I was a total technophobe until about 2 1/2 years ago. I knew NOTHING about computers, and now here I am torrenting and burning like an old pro!
