What exactly has Stevie said this "Rhiannon Project" would be all about? :woohoo:

Is she just getting involved with doing a soundtrack for someone else's film
or is she going to be a part of this film?

Will she pull out those "Rhiannon songs" ... Like 3 Birds of Rhiannon, Forest of Black Roses... etc
???

 I have so many questions

She said years ago that the songs were already written but that she backed out of the project because she could not get a good screenplay and the Hollywood people gave her the creeps. So, I think that is all that is needed - at least it was then.

Um...I was thinking when I just read about it that it has to be animated, right? I mean, really....gosh, I hope so. A la The Last Unicorn.... :D

I also heard once that she was thinking about making it a stage musical.

But I've never seen a definitive (or even realistic) list of which songs were specifically for the project, other than Forest, 3 Birds/Maker, and of course Rhiannon.

Anyone have any idea on that?

Wow, can you imagine Stevie and Rankin/Bass (the animators of Last Unicorn) teaming up? That would be amazing! Animated Rhiannon would rule.

If it's going to be animated, she needs to get in touch with Hayao Miyazaki or just can the whole idea.

Wow, I couldn't disagree with you more. If that happens the spirit of rhiannon will turn out to be some stupid elemental figure as a twist ending. Wow, I have hated everything that man has done from Princess Monoke to Spirited Away to Howl's Moving Castle. Yuck! What he does is usually interesting but not very entertaining and not usually a good story.

I saw Moving Castle the other night and thought it was superb. Storywise it wasn't nearly as good as Spirited Away, but I still liked it. Considering that Rankin and Bass haven't done anything in nearly twenty years, Miyazaki is the best I can come up with for the job and I think the results would be outstanding.

What's wrong with Hanna-Barbera? ;)

Thinking about it, "Rhiannon" would definitely work best as an animated project. Not "kiddie-fare," of course... but I think the realm of animation would allow more room for creativity.
Something stylish... with both fantastical qualities and dark elements. My only hope is that they'd stay as far away from anything resembling animé (or at least to what I've been exposed to of it), as humanly possible.

Of course, I doubt it would ever be a huge hit movie, but I don't think that's really Stevie's intention. From past interviews, I think she just wants to get the story out there in a bigger way.

It won't be like that, it will be cool like last Unicorn and Miyazaki's work. It will be mystical and strange and rad. MMkay? :)

I like Ralph Bakshi, but I don't think he's done anything in a while either. Was Cool World the last thing he did? But he's probably a little too "earthy" for Stevie.

Another option is for Stevie to turn it over to Christopher Guest. We can have Jennifer Coolidge as Rhiannon, Eugene Levy as Pwyll, Catherine O'Hara as Epona, Bob Balaban as Pryderi, Parker Posey with a hair bob as Teyrnon & Fred Willard as Manawyddan.

Or at least get Gerald Scarfe to do it ala the animation used in "Pink Floyd's The Wall"

I heard briefly about the Tori AOL Sessions, but haven't heard them yet since I don't have AOL any more. Off to check Diagnosed Sounds & Turbid Blue for boots... heh heh heh.

I love love love The Beekeper. It has grown roots and entwined itself permanently into my CD player. And the songs clump together in my head, similar to how they are arranged in the booklet "gardens". A month ago, "Sweet the Sting", "Cars and Guitars," and "Hoochie Woman" were on heavy psycho-rotation. Then it was "Ireland" and "Jamaica Inn" and "Ribbons Undone" for 10 days or so. Now it's "Barons of Suburbia," "General Joy," and a "Marys of the Sea"/"The Beekeeper" medley. And THAT's only half the album. Check back in with me at Xmastime...

This has got to be one of the best albums of the year, and of her Career. It is amazing! I like "Original Sinsuality" the most... no one else seems to. Its my fav. I also like "Sleeps With Butterflies"..but mainly because of the lyrics....and how I apply them to what im going through right now.

Im going to the Tori show by myself! Anyone from South Florida? :o

Not sure if this project will ever really come to it's fruition .Back in 1978 Stevie herself was going to star in it and play Rhiannon and there were plenty of rumors flying around about her becoming an actress .John Carpenter had offered her the female lead as the DJ in the lighthouse in the horror flick "The Fog' prompting him to call this character Stevie after she turned him down. The quote about her not liking movie people turned up in the 1982 Playboy 20 questions when she was again asked about acting in films. She also talked about making her execrable little ditty "Goldfish and Ladybug 'into an animated film which thankfully never saw the light of day,

I can't see Stevie being an actress. Maybe, if this movie actually happens, there could be a cameo or something. Or Stevie could play the Queen! Maybe it could be a musical. I don't know but I think Stevie may be able to hook up with someone and write a script that is loosely based on Rhiannon...

That one episode where she goes to see a shrink and performs that monologue for 22 minutes straight without stopping proved what a rare, brilliant woman she is. BombaySapphire3, where did you learn that interesting information? I recently rented The Fog, but I did not watch the commentary; maybe the director said it there. I don't know how Stevie would have been as an actress, but her voice would have been perfect for where the character is talking all sexy into the microphone.

I know at one brief point in the late 1970s, there was talk of Nicholas Roeg directing a "Rhiannon" movie. Someone even wrote a screenplay that Stevie allegedly read, & she thought it was too much "X" & too little "Y." She told the press that getting a screenplay for a proposed "Rhiannon" movie would have to balance between spaciness & corniness, & couldn't be either one.

If "Rhiannon" ever turns into anything (& it's been almost 30 years since the project was proposed), maybe just an album with some Stevie art.
