I recently moved in with someone who is a slurper. If it was just one thing, like soup, I could handle it. It is everything, coffee, cereal, pizza(don't ask), and don't even get me started on the pasta. It is a very loud slurp, there may as well be a cow at the table. It took everything I had to not stab in the thigh with my fork this morning.
Has anyone ever had a roommate or friend with an annoying habit and how did you tell them about it? I don't want to hurt his feelings, but Christ!!
I may need a klonopin to get through my next meal with him.

  that SUCKS!
I know what you mean about annoying habits though...
When I was living with my mom last year ugh..it was awful. I've never in my life known anyone who can eat cereal so loudly. I swear - she must purposely slam her spoon against the bowl - because throughout the cereal eating you hear the clanking CONSTANTLY and it's LOUD!!
Don't even get me started on her with grocery bags......they're loud to begin with but ugh...

Listen - I am with you on this all of the way  I lived with a sluper who also smacked as he ate. Finally, I had to tell him that both are horrid and never done in public. After that did not work, I ate alone in my room

That may be where I'm headed, I can't take it anymore.

My stepdad (soon to be ex) was so damn annoying when he ate. The thing that drove me nuts though, was chomping on ice. He'd get the biggest glass invented (I swear an Olsen twin could fit in it) and have a field day. And don't even get me started on cereal.
My mom on the other hand is obssesed with good manners, so they would fight constantly. She rarely even goes to restaurants because people get on her nerves so much.

Dude, you have to tell him. Or else you will stab him. It's one or the other. You know you won't be able to stop yourself if you let it get too bad.
What the heck is wrong with people? When I was growing up, should the slightest noise emanate from my mouth or the food I was eating, I would immediately hear: "QUIT THAT GODDAMN SMACKING, YOU'Re MAKING ME SICK!"
or "DON'T SLURP!!!!!" or "Uh! I'm eating in my room, you're making me sick!"
or "EITHER SPIT THAT GUM OUT OR QUIT CHEWING LIKE A COW!!!"
Man, isn't anyone teaching their kids how to eat normally?

Thank God I wasn't slurping my water when I read this. It would have been all over the monitor.

May I just also add in here that stacking plates at the table is NEVER appropriate. I cannot stand that and think it is gross, esp. when it splatters. When waiters do it at a find dining establishment, I call them on it. I also hate when people actually touch the food they are eating with their fingers (save for hamburgers and the like) as well as when they push the plate away from them when they are done. You are NEVER to touch the plate in a fine dining setting. That is what the waiter is for and the waiter should NEVER stack
I get all hyped up about food

Sexuality has nothing to do with good table manners
BTW - it is a fittin' when at home to clear the entire table with your left hand while throwing your partner onto the table while ripping their clothing off with the right hand   That is where I draw the line :wavey: :wavey:

Table manners? Your rules scared me, quite frankly. I am now terrified that Miss Manners (or you) are going to walk in & throw my plate at me after I push it away.
At least we're on the same page as far as the table banging.

Well, actually that would require me, a non-server, to touch your plate which would also be inappropriate, esp. while standing  Also, throwing food is never appropriate. So, put those fears away :wavey:

Me too, maybe that is why I have such a complex about it. I don't know how nobody has said anything to him so far.

I cannot stand when someone touches my food. I used to work with this older woman, kinda large, big gobbler....well, we all ordered chinese food...I ordered shrimp fried rice. We were so busy on the unit that day none of us had time to eat. Or at least that is what I THOUGHT. When in got home later that night and went to warm my food which I was sooo looking forward to....I opened up my container and to my surprise, there were no shrimp!! That woman had taken her swords for fingernails and dug out all my shrimp and ate them. I was informed by my co-workers the next day. I never said a thing (to her) but never really spoke to her again.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but chances are, you're not going to be able to break him of this habit. My husband is a slurper/smacker, and I have been on his ass for YEARS trying to get him to stop. I think he tries, but it' still there. We've been together 21 years.
And my father-in-law is worse. I purposefully avoid sitting next to him at family dinners. We went on vacation with my in-laws 10 years ago to Monterey, and I can clearly remember physically gagging at a restaurant because of the noises he was making. And he's my father-in-law, so how would I even approach it with him?
Good luck with it!

There are many names running through my head to call this woman. Jeez. At the end of a long exhausting day, to have that happen, I might have cried. That is how much I love my food.
I nearly cried today when my entire iced coffee fell out of the cup holder in my car and on the floor under my feet, completely spilling within milleseconds. That really sucked. Today was "one of those days" for sure. Except I did have some chunky monkey ice cream tonite. Man that stuff is good.

Dude:
remove all plates/bowls/cups/glasses from the cupboards. Lock them in YOUR room. Buy your roommate a TROUGH. Buy several.

Plan B:
place a blender on the table, plugged IN. when he has his food dished up, grab the plate away, dump it all in the blender, whizz it around for a bit and pour it into a glass. Give him a pretty straw with an umbrella in it. Tell him "NOW its ok to slurp"
