You know I wondered about that....... I've never been to Grand Rapids but I know every other venue I've ever been to in Michigan are sooooo uptight about cameras!! It really kind of sucks

I am hoping to make it to this show, but I have no ticket yet so I have not decided! I have been to Van Andel before though (in '03 for the SYW show, 4th row), and I think I actually was able to get my camera in. I had it buried in my purse under a few other things and I don't think they noticed it. Still, I don't want to deal with the stress so I don't think I'll be trying to get my camera in this time around. It is a nice venue though--not too big! :o I am still hoping to score a decent last-minute ticket!

I am going and "I can't wait!" Actually my sister and I just gave in and got tickets for the DTE for next Saturday too. We really wanted to see Don Henley and were disappointed that he was not going to be here in GR.
Yea, it is pretty hard to get cameras in to the Van Andel. I haven't tried for a concert, but I know that they do search you.

when I was at the SYW show in 03 someone was flashing pictures a few rows behind us, and 3 security ppl were looking up trying to find the guy...they eventually went up there and took his camera...
That's what I am afraid of happening, even though my camera can do a no-flash, I still do not want to take the chance...
Although I thought hey I'm gonna be in 5th row and I'll get to go up to the stage during the end, maybe I could sneak a couple of snapshots...
but yea, van andel is strict about concerts...they were patting down my pants and everything for the 03 show
Mom was trying to decipher how I can sneak one in, and I said, simple...stick it in my crotch and tell them I have a big bulge LOL  the camera can fits right into my hands its pretty small 4MP even

I would LOVE to get my camera in, especially since I am in the front row, but I don't want to take that chance. I will just opt to enjoy the pictures that the other fans take and post here. :)

I know at the Henley shows they were frowned upon because he does not like bright lights.
I would try to sneak a camera in and shut the flash off. Save it for the Edge rush maybe because it will be near the end of the show and in a sea of people they will never even be able to see you.
Stevie usually allows point and shoot cameras with the flash off anyway.

I thought I'd reply to this thread since now I know for sure I am going--I snagged a front row seat for $164.00 total (including shipping) on eBay! :] I am pretty effing excited! Now I've just got to decide where I'm staying and stuff, since it's about a four-hour hike for me (maybe five when you factor in that I lose an hour driving from Chicago (central time zone) to Michigan (eastern time zone). Is there a meet-up planned for before or after this concert? Ahhhhhhhhhhh! I'm so excited!!! :blob2:

Hey I bet you I saw that damn seat on ebay, and I have never used ebay before so I was kinda scared about bidding LOL
But that's great! I'll be closeby... I decided I'm not going to take the digital camera, because I know someone that knows someone who works at van andel, and said they supposably have metal detectors now, and I'm not taking that risk of getting booted.
As far as hotels, I have two suggestions...
Amway Grand Hotel - Although expensive (and if it's just one night, it might not be too bad for you), your greatest advantage to this is that there is a skywalk that connects all the way form the hotel to van andel which is so convenient.
Across the river there's a Days Inn, it'd probably be a 10 minute walk to Van Andel. Not sure on prices here either, but I'm supposing they are affordable.
As far as I know there is no meet-ups planned or anything...I'm tagging along with my mom, so more than likely her and I will be fleeing the scene once it's over, and I have to write my review as soon as I get home, or I'll tend to forget things.
If not, maybe we'll all bump into each other when we rush to the stage for Edge :blob2: :blob2:

Can anyone who is familiar with Van Andel tell me how the seats in the front row are numbered? I can't find a seating chart that tells seat numbers and it has been a while since I've been there. I had front row for FM last time they were here but I can't think of what my seat numbers were. I think they were numbered starting with seat #1 increasing from the right side (looking at the stage) to the left. Is this correct? And does anyone know how many seats are in the front row? Thanks!

Hey, sorry I didn't respond to this earlier--thanks for all the helpful info! :o I was thinking of staying at a pretty, quaint bed & breakfast along the coast after the show, but that would involve more research and out-of-the-way traveling, which I'm not sure I'm up for (alone). The Amway Grand sounds like a nice, virtually stress-free alternative, but I haven't checked on the price yet. I'm a little scared by the sound of it.
Anyway, thanks again--I'll be lookin' for ya at the show! :D

Hey, is this the same Janelle w/ whom I am corresponding on Enchanted? If so, :wavey:. If not, :sorry: . Anyway, I cannot remember the seating arrangement either but you're probably right. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I don't even know my seat number yet--I guess I'll find out when I go to FedEx and pick up my ticket! :] <---I'm not excited or anything, lol. Oh, I guess we're not talking about the same show on this thread as we're corresponding about through e-mail, so I might as well tell ya, I'm going to Grand Rapids too! Yes it's me!!! :wavey: I just emailed you. I got a pair of front row seats on Ebay just this afternoon! I am so jazzed about those seats that I don't know what to do with myself! Got your e-mail and responded, :) . We will be sitting (well, mostly likely standing) in the front row TOGETHER!!! I've got seat 32!!! Woohoo!
I'm gonna be looking for the rest of you guys too, to at least say hi. :wavey: Actually, I took krrrby's advice and I'll be staying at the Amway Grand, which has like, 6 different restaurants in it. Some are very expensive, and I will not be dining in them, LOL. I'm already paying enough for the room and the ticket! But they also have some more moderately-priced restaurants, like a sports bar. I was thinking I'd eat at one of those. Would anyone be interested in meeting up for dinner at one of those places before the show?
I know it's early but I'm just trying to get an idea! :-)
Hope to hear from you guys!

But, that is cool! I have been getting ahead of myself though, since the Detroit show hasn't even happened yet! I'm starting to get the two travel plans mixed up! I figure we can work out the Grand Rapids details after the Detroit show (everyone who's also going to the Detroit show, please see the Clarkston thread which should be around here somewhere because I just bumped it up)!

Unfrotunately I cannot make it because the show is like at what 8? and I get out of work at 7 so I'll be running home, grabbing my mom, and flying down there (because it'll take like 20 min to park LOL)
You think we should all wear nametags with our screen name? LOL
sounds dorky but hey...it might work
get one of those cheap "hello my name is..." stickers :blob2:

If you're looking for like a remote little hotspot....the beach in Grand Haven is awesome. I love going there every chance I get. It is sort of off the expressway...but it's well worth it, the beaches are so nice in michigan. Most people don't think we have beaches which is a good thing, we can have em all to ourselves LOL
But just a thought if you are looking for something to do around the area...they have a nice little downtown too

I would love to meet up for dinner, but since my sister and I have to work that day :distress: we won't have time. The sports bar in the Amway is pretty good. There is also a Fridays on your way to the Van Andel (if you are walking outside and not using the sky walk). There are also 2 nice bars that have food just around the corner from the Van on Ionia that have great food for good prices. Taps and J. Gardella's. I hope you have a safe trip to Detroit! I will also be at that show. We are in the left center section row M seats 16 & 17 on the left isle if you are facing the stage. I am not sure what I will be wearing since I think it will be a little cooler than I thought it was going to be. If you get a chance stop by, otherwise I will see you next Friday!

For the DTE show I am in section LTC3 row M. It is the left center section (if you are facing the stage). For Grand Rapids I am in CR row A which is the front row of the 3 continental rows in front of sections R1, F2 and F3. I think that I will be right in front of section F3 if the seats are numbered from left to right (facing away from the stage). :)

Hey Rampage Girl (sorry don't know your real name! LOL), for DTE tonight I am in row L on the left...I think my seats will be pretty far to the left. If you see me in my pink t-shirt stop and say hello! Unless you are going to dinner with Lisa, then I will hopefully see you there. My sister is also wearing a shirt similar to mine but purple and we look a lot alike, so we are probably not real hard to spot. What is your seat number in Grand Rapids? Mine are 33 and 34 in CR - A. Front row at Grand Rapids was awesome the last time I went! I am terribly excited! :]

Janelle - my real name is Amy Jo. :) I am not going to dinner, my sister and I are just about to head out to Birch Run to do some shopping before the show and I don't know how long we will be shopping. Outlet mall = deals, my favorite thing, well other than Stevie. It sounds like we will be pretty close to one another if you are to the left and so am I. I will be a row behind you. I have on a white t-shirt (not my 1st choice, but it is going to be a little cool out) and jeans. I may have on my jean jacket. My hair is curly and the top is pulled back in a small sparkly barrette. I am so excited!!!
We will both be in the front row in GR. I have never been front row there, so I am excited about that as well. I hope that the stage isn't up too high. I am not real tall. I think for the last GR show I was in row 12 or so. I will be looking for ya tonight. Have a safe trip!

Hey Amy Jo (Rampage Girl),
This is pretty awesome! Janelle and her sister and I got to meet before the Detroit show started and we chatted for a bit, so we will recognize each other now when we see each other in Grand Rapids--and Janelle and her fiance (I think?) and I will all be sitting together--by complete coincidence--in the front row!!! :] It sounds like you won't be too far from us either! Wouldn't it be awesome if we were all sitting together? Janelle, her fiance and I will be occupying Row CR A seats 32-34. Will you be anywhere near us?

Hi Littlecricket2! Wasn't the show last night awesome?!?!?! I had a great time. I never thought that I would ever see Stevie & Don sing Leather & Lace together live, it was mind blowing for me. I just can not wait until Friday! I thought I saw Janelle, but then I saw another girl that kinda fit the description that she gave, so I didn't go up to either one of them. I am kinda shy about things like that, until I know someone. My sister and I are in seats 13 & 14 CR A for the Grand Rapids show. I hope that you have a safe trip here to Grand Rapids!

Just a general message to all--I'm gonna check out some nearby restaurants (the hotel where I'm staying at has, like, 6 of them, and it is connected to the Van Andel Arena so we'd probably be able to eat there easily without any stress of driving there, driving back, etc.--if that's cool w/ anyone).

Someone PLEASE do a play-by-play. Pretty please? :)
You know we'll all be waiting! :woohoo: And any pant-sightings need to be reported asap too!

You know I wondered about that....... I've never been to Grand Rapids but I know every other venue I've ever been to in Michigan are sooooo uptight about cameras!! It really kind of sucks
Tell me about it!!! I remember in Detroit for the last SYW show on 9-14-04, this dickhead wanna be cop took my camera away when I was taking pics. Oh well.
