View Full Version : Dumb question for anyone and everyone

Hey everyone,
I recently saved a new signature in my profile. Quick question: why would it show up in some new posts and not in others? I think I've actually seen it in exactly one post. But who knows? Maybe it'll show up here. Seems rather random. It does appear saved when I go to the control panel and check my profile. (It's the Ani DiFranco quote).
Thanks,
*Lisa Anne* (just in case)

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! I love that Ani quote! "As Is" in among my faves.
Anyway, I think the reason shows sometimes and sometimes not is because it will only show once per page. I think this is to save bandwidth.
I started a thread about this once--http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=17287

Oh, thank you, that totally clears it up!
Ok, this thread can disappear into oblivion now, .
Yes, I like much of Ani's lyrics, although I haven't kept up with her in the past few years--my favorite era of hers was probably late 90's; you know, "Living in Clip" and "Little Plastic Castles." I do like "As Is" a lot but I remember once I was in the car listening to that CD w/ my mom, and when she gets to the chorus and says "As is as is as is" and kinda plays with her voice a bit, my mom tweaked and was like, "ewwwwwww, OMG what are you listening to?!" Sometimes they just don't get it, LOL.

But she gave it time, and she developed a fondness for it.
Anyway, I just got into Ani in 2003 and I bought her Evolve album. I think it's really great. You ought to check it out. But I'm with you about some of her earlier stuff being better. I think I'm an early to mid-nineties Ani girl, my fave album is Puddle Dive. The two you mentioned are wonderful, too. I recently bought her newest album, Knuckle Down, and it has some great music, though it just doesn't blow me away like her earlier stuff did.
By the way, how old is your mom, if I can ask that? I was just wondering if age had anything to do with tolerance or intolerance of Ani's weird voice acrobatics, if that's what you call them. My mom's 55.

My mom is nearly the same age as Stevie--about a month-and-a-half younger. She'll be 57 on July 9. :) So yeah, maybe age is a factor!
You have more patience than I do, apparently. I can't stand to try to change my mom's mind about anything because it often takes too long, involves her going into wild and illogical tangents, and usually results in me raising my voice. I just don't play my favorite music when she's around and I try my best to avoid certain subjects. I honestly don't think she's capable of listening to Ani long enough for it to grow on her. At least your mom said the song would be bearable if Ani didn't do that thing with her voice. That proves that she was listening to the lyrics (not just the fact that Ani uses the word a$$hole in the song), and that she appreciated some aspects of the song. My mom didn't even act like she noticed a song was playing until she heard something she didn't like. Oh well! We get along great most of the time.

That sounds so much like me and my mom! And the cuss words didn't go over well at first. I'm a huge fan of "Untouchable Face," but the first time I played at for her, she just looked at me as soon as the chorus began. She grew to love that one, though. Her justification for getting accustomed to the "f*ck you" is weird though. She says it's okay because Ani's not yelling it and it doesn't sound as immature as you would think when she says it.
But the best instance was when I played her "Slide" (from Evolve) for the first time. In that song, Ani says
"When I look at you, I squint
You are that beautiful
And my pussy is a tractor
And this is a tractor pull"
I love it!
Anyway yeah, I try so hard to get my mom to like the music I like; it's really sad. At first, she only liked Stevie, and I was determined to get her to like other members of FM. I finally got her to like Lindsey with "Never Going Back Again" and Christine with "Songbird." She likes Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan, and Peter Green (I love all of those guys) but she's not big on Bekka and Billy. I don't think that one's ever going to work out.
I'll quit rambling now. :sorry:

Don't apologize, it was fun chatting! You are sweet to try so hard to get your mom into the music you like. Maybe I should try harder. My mom's not gonna be around forever and I might regret it someday if I don't.
TTYL! :wavey:
