Has anyone picked this record up? I'm listening to an online radio station http://www.radio-indie-pop.com/radio.html and they have a couple tracks from it. Both are amazing! How is the rest of the album?

I got it last year, it's good, and my CD came with Bonus Video, which was awesome. Of course, Diss will go on at length about how great it is, so I will step aside and let him do so. But I def. recommend it.

I haven't seen you around lately! How are you doing? Myself? Well, I'm glad you asked. I'm lame, as lame as lame can be! I feel all skiddish and shifty. This is not cool. I think I'll go buy the Blondie record now. It will help...

It's one of my favorites from them, but it's definitely not for everyone. The first five tracks are classic Blondie (Golden Rod being one of their best songs ever), but as soon as you get to Background Melody, you know that it's going to get weird. Magic is pretty out-there, even for Blondie, as are The Tingler and Desire Brings Me Back. Her voice is fantastic, though, and I'd definitely recommend the DualDisc over the regular CD if you can get it.

Weird in what sense? I am a huge fan of weird music. Do you mean weird like Mary Margaret O'Hara (if you don't know who that is, she does some crazy vocals on Morrissey's November Spawned a Monster and is Catherine O'Hara's sister) weird or unlistenably weird? Not that Debbie Harry sounds anything like Mary Margaret O'Hara!

I've been just sort of popping in, adding my two cents and leaving. I must be missing your posts 'cause I haven't been hanging out here for long. Sorry. Yeah, I hope I feel better soon too. I'm really weird right now. Very introverted. I'm usually introverted, but I'm introverted in the sense that I'm annoyed when people talk to me? Like I get all irritated by the sound of people speaking. This is new to me. Hmmm... am I turning into Howard Hughes or what?

Maybe. But sometimes everything is just too irritating. Everything. You don't want to hear/see/do/whatever anything you don't want to. I'm sure it will pass. :) And remember, people are in fact, irritating, so, there's that.

Weird as in completely out of left-field and absolutely jarring upon first listen. The first time I heard Magic, I didn't know what the hell to make of it. It's an old folk song and they gave it the royally odd treatment. Desire Brings Me Back is...indescribable. A very avant garde jazz song. It starts off for the first minute or so as out of tune instruments playing together until even begins to kick into gear. I'm listening to that station now and trust me, Good Boys is no indication of the actual album. Amazon should have clips of all the songs.

Some of the remixes are even better than the album version. And the video is AMAZING, it's on the CD, like Amber said.

Out of all the songs, the most accessible probably would be these if you can find them on LimeWire.

Golden Rod
Undone
Rules For Living (so pretty)
End To End
Diamond Bridge (killer vocal)
Last One In the World

I like the weird stuff, myself, and since you have similar tastes, you'll probably dig the whole album.

That's the one thing that really pisses me off about Fleetwood Mac and Stevie solo - they never change their setlist. They approach live performances like they're plays. The rehearse the "performance" and play the same thing everywhere they go. They're the only band I know who does that. Lots of bands have certain songs they obviously have to play, but they switch it up at least!

I like Miyazaki, a lot.

Here's what they said about Jolie - "Jolie remains something to look at, a real movie creature. To see her is to wonder what horror movies she'll be making when she reaches her "Baby Jane" years. She's arresting, beautiful without being even remotely lovely. But Jolie is wrong for the role. Pitt is engaging, despite the lack of clever dialogue to help him. But Jolie is only tough, which is the wrong essence for absurdist comedy. The joke is supposed to be that no one would expect the Smiths to be paid assassins. With Jolie, it's not that much of a stretch. It's more of a stretch to picture her hustling for laughs. Mr. & MRs. Smith could never have been good, but it definitely called for an actress with a lighter touch, someone such as Robin Wright Penn, or Carla Gugino - or Jennifer Aniston"
I think Jolie is not a good actress, anyway, so that was fine with me. She is definitely pretty hot, though.

Carla Gugino is smoking, too, I could definitely picture her in that movie. That review's interesting because all the ones I've read (so far) have said that while the movie essentially sucks donkey balls, the chemistry between Pitt (who I hate) and Jolie is white hot and quite shocking because it's so damned good.

Curse was my first Blondie album. :')

I don't really think it gets "weird" so much as it just gets a little experimental here & there, but I think it's still a really good album. Only, like, 2 or 3 of the songs had to grow on me. It's now my second favorite Blondie album (after Plastic Letters :woohoo: )

Yeah, it's not weird in the same vein as, say, Dig Up the Conjo, but some of it is still pretty out there to me. That intro to Desire Brings Me Back is something else and Magic is jarring when you first hear it, especially after Background Melody. At least I thought so.

As for Plastic Letters, Contact In Red Square is my new favorite song.

Best tracks: Living In the Real World and Union City Blue.

I think ETTB is ten times better than Parallel Lines, to be honest.

Wow, a man after my own heart. ETTB always gets overshadowed by Parallel Lines and it's such a strong album from start to finish! Even the video album they did to accompany it is great.

And, I have a confession to make. I think Union City Blue is one of the best songs ever written. I honestly do. I love its lyrics, its Springsteen-vibe, the turquoise line, even Debbie's orange boiler suit in the video
Speaking of Springsteen, he was recording The River at the same studio where ETTB was recorded and I often wonder if a small amount of that influence is heard in Union City Blue. Just pondering...

See, now I've started on ETTB I can't stop!

Hehe, I scared All The Same too. I am scary. :D

You can Pieterman me, but only if it involves half an otter's face and rainbows shooting out of my feet (painted on a tambourine!)

Sorry, I just heard tracks from it today and was curious. I should really start building my Blondie collection. I've only got that really old Greatest Hits record.

I always join these threads too late... :o I like THE CURSE OF BLONDIE but I also like LIVE BY REQUEST... I listen to that one at the gym quite often... it's got great energy!

Sorry about the skiddish/shifty thing... I have a lot of nervous energy today, I feel stressed out for no reason. I think I need to go out and kick it tonight!

It's called "Stevie/Amber - Spirit of the Otter" and you have to say it in a whooshing tone of voice.

I am IN LOVE with Victor on the video album. Debbie screaming in that sexy little cape kills me.

Ho****. You must have seen my posts where I said Union City Blue was their best song (along with Forgive and Forget, naturally). ;) Everything about it is pop perfection. The production, her vocal, the lyrics (I melt when she sings "Arrive, climb up four flights"), Clem's drumming, etc. I've always thought that it's incredibly sensual in a very simplistic way.

See, now I've started on ETTB I can't stop!

It's one of the best pop albums ever recorded, gush away.

So far No Exit is my favorite, but I only have three albums. :D I love Union City Blue, though, and I liked Eat to the Beat when I heard it, so I best get that one, next.

All of ETTB doesn't get enough credit though, I mean Dreaming, Atomic, The Hardest Part etc, etc, all perfect pop songs. And that video album was revolutionary too. It still looks great today (and Debbie is drop dead gorgeous in Sound-A-Sleep). I wish they'd re-issue it on DVD, that is surely long overdue a re-release.

Don't we all, eh? Imagine your very own Pieterman original, portraying a dream-like meeting between you and the goddess Nicks, at her most ethereal, that didn't actually happen at all. The setting: a fantasy castle in the clouds, built by the tiny gold-dust sprinkled hands of fairies...

Amber/Otter.

She is also the beast, the beast in all of us Amber. {La bete, ooooh la bete}. And she is Rhiannon, the mythical beauty that runs free and wild in our hearts.
BUT, the picture will make us ponder: just who is the beauty, who the beast? Is it the wolf or are we the beasts? Deep, deep thoughts.
But best of all will be the icy image of Lindsey in the background.
Oh Johanna Pieterman, I adore you!

maybe stevie should be mixed with the unicorn, and lindsey mixed with the wolf, and then he can be chasing her, with a backdrop of stars, and the moon far away, and rainbows shooting out of both their feet/paws/hooves.
Then, and only then, will I be happy.
Deep thoughts, indeed.

THAT IS IT! The perfect picture! I knew we'd get there somehow.
I'm imagining it now: Lindsey, the body of a wolf but the face of a man in love, chasing Stevie as the unicorn with her long blonde mane flowing in the wind behind her. Oh and there should be some fairies in there too.

Yeah, it needs to be reissued, my copy isn't in very good condition. They should reissue Picture This, too, so that we can have some quality copies of her solo vids.

The Hardest Part is another one of my faves and definitely a standout on the video album. She gives one hell of a performance in that song vocally.

I don't really like Lines all that much, really. I like a good number of the songs, but as a whole... eh. Leaves me cold, I guess.

So that said, I figure it's about that time for us (read: me) to list the Blondie albums in order of faybrits. :P
1. Letters
2. Curse
3. Autoamerican
4. Hunter
5. Blondie
6. No Exit
7. Eat
8. Lines
9. Live, simply because it's a live album and I'd feel stupid sticking a Live album in front of a studio one.

Oh, I knew it was going to come up eventually. :P

1. No Exit
2. Plastic Letters
3. Eat To the Beat
4. Curse
5. Hunter (I love this album, bitches.)
6. Autoamerican
7. Blondie
8. Lines
9. Live
10. Request

That video for Now I Know You Know, good gawd. That one is so out-there, I love it. I'm one of the few who loves KooKoo as an album, though, so it's no surprise that I like that vid. They did an amazing job of carrying over the feel of the cover art into the videos, I thought.

And Hello Joe!! The one on the bonus material of the DVD is amazing. I love the album version, but the LBR rendition blows it out of the water. <3<3

You know, I've always thought that while the songs themselves are sublime on the records, they truly come alive when done live. Certainly in the case of Hello Joe. The only thing I hate about the DVD is that they edited the really hysterical call-ins. Some of those people were real fruit loops and Debbie's reactions were priceless.

Seriously. I don't know which was better, the call-ins or her reactions. I was fortunate enough to tape it on one of the umpteenth re-showings of it that still had the BRILLIANT call-ins. But I figured the DVD would have them, as well, but alas. It's what I get for buying it the day it came out, rather than waiting for others' input. But, all in all, even with the lack of call-ins, a great performance.

On a side note: I met Chris in Richmond, Virginia 4 days later after a show, and told him how impressed I was with their performance on LBR. He said they were all really nervous (you couldn't even tell!!) and hadn't heard a lot of feedback from fans, so was glad to finally get some. It's good to know I wasn't alone...;)

Did you tape one of the reruns with Maria? I taped the first live broadcast, so I have it on tape to laugh at. I guess one of the stagehands had placed the fog machine right under her and it was blowing right in her face, so she flipped out during the commercial break backstage.
