Yeah - it sucks. (well Albuquerque is good)

I am so glad I don't live here anymore.

I hate Las Cruces.

More later or my vacation antics.

Are you serious? I thought you loved it out there! Well screw them & their dry heat! Welcome back to Western NY - high temps & ridiculous humidity. :D

Well Albuquerque and Santa Fe remain cool - it's the southern part of the state that's a pit.

The first half of my vacay was great - and it's not bad now - I just don't like being in Cruces...if I run into ONE MORE PERSON that I really really don't ever want to see again I may have to start peeling off my own skin

Eh - but I'm enjoying seeing friends and eating yummy food.

Right now though I'm sitting at my mom's work waiting for her lunchtime ...woo the fun just never ends in New Mexico.

I've only been to New Mexico once and had a terrible time. We were driving from Las Vegas to Colorado (whomever thought that was a good idea must have been high) and we stayed in some little piss town called Gallop overnight. The hotel we stayed in was scary. I swear I could her rats scratching the walls or something. I refused to even touch the bed and left my shoes on. I would have stayed in the car, but the area was way too seedy. Gah, I'm still not over that trip.

There should be a thread about bad hotel experiences! We've had some doozies too. Roaches, water leaks, stains on the sheets, cigarrette burns in the carpet and sheets, spiders.

Blergh.

Ah yes, Gallop. I know it well. Driving to Vegas two years ago, we were looking for a cheap place to spend the night and then get up early to get on the road. We happened to roll into Gallop right around midnight or so, man that place was desolate and scary. Actually, by the way you described it, I think we stayed in the same hotel!

I think New Mexico is beautiful to look at. I camped in Gila National Forest a few years back, and found the combination of pines, scrub oaks, sphagnum moss, mistletoe and agave strange and alluring. Other than the view...well, there isn't much other than the view.

Overall New Mexico is very beautiful - but there are a lot of pit ass towns and stupid ass people (though I guess that's true for any state).

Like I said, Northern NM is great - but down here near Texas? SUckVille.

Gallup is a scary little Northern NM town - there are lots of desolate and depressing little towns around the state

Get your kicks, on Route 66!

Oh, yeah...it's spelled Gallup.

A few months ago, I drove from Colorado Springs back to California through Gallup. Stopped for lunch...what a sh*thole town. That place is dusty & dirty. I assume most of the time...it had just rained and the whole town was a muddy quagmire.

It's not that far from Gallup to (as Bugs Bunny pronounces it) "Alba-coy-key". Shoulda just driven the extra miles to get to a BIG CITY!

I went to NM once. I sat my ass on 4 states at once & then stared at the world's largest meteor crater.
