Many many twirls during GDW, EDGE and STAND BACK...

They did the Edge stage rush, she said she shook many hands, took gifts, etc..
She said she thought DESPERADO was gonna come on, cuz he said "be right back" and the lights were still dim, then the lights came up, then they went black again, then did that back and forth...then they stayed on..so sounds like there was a mix up or somethin

Question for HenleyFan. Is Desperado like Rhiannon to you guys? (We all gripe that Stevie should drop Rhiannon and do something else instead because it has been played to death.) I'm a fan of Don's (own several Eagles albums and a couple of his solo records) but I've never seen him in concert without the Eagles unless he was a guest at a Stevie show. I'm guessing Desperado is a staple in his setlists. Assuming another song had been added in it's place (which was not the case tonight), would hardcore Don fans be glad, or pissed about the omission? Or does he do a pretty good job of mixing rarities into his sets already?
As much as I would like to see Stevie axe Rhiannon in favor of, say, Angel or something, I understand striking a balance between hits and underground faves is a challenge... her casual fans want to hear what they know from the radio -- Rhiannon, Dreams, and Edge of 17, kind of like if I was at tonight's show I'd be thinking "That's nice, but WTF is my Desperado?!" ;).
HenleyFan
06-04-2005, 11:14 PM
Don usually does Desperado at the end of the show and it's a really nice closer. It sounds like tongiht that's where they meant to do it and something happend.
Don has been getting really good about doing covers and older stuff. The fact that he's opening with The Genie is totally, totally cool.
I wouldn't mind if he dropped Hotel California and Life in the Fastlane from his solo shows. I'm most looking forward to hearing Genie, Spell On You and the duets with Stevie.

I didn't hear any mention of Beauty and the Beast yet, was it dropped? I like Stop Draggin My heart around a lot today. its still a nice song to hear in concert. I also still enjoy hearing rhiannon and dreams. One that I would love to see dropped is Enchanted. that could easily be replaced with If Anyone Falls or something. Circle Dance was pretty cool but id rather sorcerer or something.
I wonder if she will go across the whole stage on edge of seventeen. my 2nd row seat is all the way to the right of the stage, so I don't know how far she will go to reach fans. Im not going to lie to you. its a madhouse. But it really depends on the security. Some venues only allow a certain number of people up to the stage, but there are the crazy ones out there who will go nuts and try to well, um, deck you. lol. Don't be worried , its not a big deal.

It all depends on the venue...usually only first couple of rows, and no they dont go back after Edge of 17..they stay there

It's a long held "tradition" at Stevie concerts for her to walk the length of the stage and shake hands with fans at the end of Edge of 17. They stay there for the rest of the show. Yes, people will push in front of those in the first and second row :/ (sometimes everyone is cool, sometimes people can really be jerks). You'll see it start happening... if the order stays the same, leave your seat and head for the stage at the end of Beauty & the Beast.

The "stage rush" is something that I absolutely cannot stand. It pisses me off to no end, especially at the Boston TISL show in 2001. Stevie has a tradition of going around to the edge of the stage to shake hands and take gifts from people, so everyone and their extended f*cking family rushes to touch her and possibly get lucky by having her essence rub off onto them. I've yet to attend a show where people weren't complete assholes about it, pushing people to get up there as if they owned the joint. And just think, the only people who are supposed to be up there are the ones who paid for the tickets in the first few rows. Everyone else should just suck an egg.

I cant imagine that your experience will be negative then...it's not like people will take your seat...they are headed for the stage, to the area between the first row and the stage...and they crowd around the stage...security generally lets first 3 rows head up...and then u have some stragglers..but if all you want is to have an nice view of the stage, then your view will be no different from your seat once everyone rushes the stage

I think its great that fans are able to walk right up to the stage, If you have a good seat, just secure yourself a good spot at the stage. AND all seats in the first 40 rows or so cost the exact same money, so if someone who is stuck in row 12 or so makes it up front somehow, Thats GREAT.

All seats do not cost the same amount. You are forgetting the ILAA seats. I wouldn't go up to the stage because then I would be in front of someone else who paid for their seats and I don't do things like that. My philosophy is that seats are assigned for a reason. When I have a seat up front, I've worked very hard to get that seat and shouldn't have my experienced ruined. I always call security over when someone comes up and tries to move into the front.
If somehow I get pushed to the front, am I required to touch Stevie or can I just stand there. This is a whole other world...that's for sure.

Well everyone at the Fleetwood Mac show was very nice..I had 3rd row, and security let people go up to the stage, as long as everyone with front row tix had the spot that they wanted first...and they actually checked tix, to make sure no1 was furthur than row 3...and also walked around to make sure the ppl standing by their seat in row 1, were able to get first dibs on the stage, many had no desire to stand at the stage
That is a much more organized way, to do it before the show begins..instead of in the middle of it

No, because they don't have tickets to be up there and people shouldn't have their good time spoiled by the pricks who rush up there with no respect for the people who are SUPPOSED to be there. That behavior lacks couth.
I'm glad someone else feels the same way I do about this.......(ducks!! ha ha)

My philosophy is that seats are assigned for a reason. When I have a seat up front, I've worked very hard to get that seat
Nope, when you have a seat up front you are very very lucky and someone with worse luck should be allowed to improve what they were given. I think the fact that you mentioned the velvet rope earlier makes me like Stevie that much more. This is nothing against you, but the fact that this whole thing shocks you so much is so funny. I just see all the Eagles fans going.. WHAT THE... she interacts with her fans, whats this?

Don interacts with his fans quite a bit but he also understands how upsetting having your experience ruined by a drunk jerk who thinks they have the right to move in front of you can be. He has actually stopped shows and told people who were interfering with people's views to sit down or move back to their original seat.

Hmmm...I'm kind of concerned now too.....I've never been up close for the stage rush thing......I did the 5 star package thing too and I'm going to be kind of upset if I'm in the front row and people start pushing me out of their way--sorry :0( I know at DTE the rows are pretty tight and security is also pretty tight there.......I don't think you could fit more than 1 person single file in the first row there........
Amy
I was at DTE for the last Fleetwood Mac show of the tour last year and there was no room for a stage rush. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

If somehow I get pushed to the front, am I required to touch Stevie or can I just stand there.
You will be forced to shake her hand.
Just teasing. You can just stand there. Honestly, it sounds kind of scary (and sometimes it is), but I've been to shows where everyone is friendly, and security does a great job of making sure only people in the first 3 rows move up. I hope the crowd at your show is polite and unobnoxious.

Well I think overall Stevie fans enjoy this experience..the ones in the first couple of rows, can go to the stage also..it's quite nice...someone in row 2 can stand beside someone in row 1 at the stage...all you need to know is when Edge of 17 is gonna come on..It's not as if they are breaking a rule...the security lets this happen, because Stevie wants it to happen

Yes... It's a requirement.. J/K...
You know... It sounds a lot worse by description then it actually is... Sure there are instances where it's a little more... say, pushy.. But everyone is a grown-up, for the most part... were not dealing with a mosh pit here or anything.... I mean if it was that bad, that dangerous, it would have stopped years ago... It's been going on for what over 20 years.... so that should say something...
I wouldn't worry about not seeing the stage, they don't let people up on stage and you can stay in your seat as everyone else (stevie's fans) will have moved down front.

It was the same show where the power went out because it was so hot and some guy jumped on the stage hoping to dance with her ala Brad Jeffries in the Red Rocks video and got body blocked by the very tall Don Boyette and then drug off by security. It was pretty funny to watch.

Yes and that's fine...many artists don't interact with fans PHYSICALLY like Stevie has done since her very first solo tour.. I guess it's better now that you are prepared, and don't freak out cuz you dont know what's going on when it happens.
A Stevie Nicks show and a Don Henley show are a much diff dynamic I would say--Don's shows seem a little more laid back, Stevie's a little more rock atmosphere.
You should really embrace the opportunity during Edge of 17 to get even closer to the stage

I've only done the Edge rush once, but I would hardly call it dangerous. But you are packed in there pretty tight and people are rubbing shoulders with you, etc. (you do not have any personal space is what I am saying). However, it is just for the encore, so it's not the whole show. Personally, I find the velvet rope idea very cold. I am so glad Stevie has never done something like that!

OH I hated the "pokers" at Fridays vegas show. I was in the rear orch 3 rows from the back...everyone back there was sitting. My friend and I were in awe seeing everyone just sitting there bobbing their heads. So I just said screw it, I didn't pay this money to just sit here...so I stood up, danced, sang, had a good time, till the stupid "pokers" started...."Can you sit down, we can't see???" I said, "Well then stand up and you'll see just fine!!!" You know, if you go to a rock concert, don't freakin sit down, and especially don't tell others to sit down...that to me is just rude. If you choose to sit, expect to not see!!! That totally chapped my ass!!!!

There's no velvet rope at Stevie shows
Chris
Dude there is a velvet rope. It is in front of the front row seats and head of security told us that Don requested no one be allowed passed it period. When Stevie started Edge, the fans surged forward and pushed the ropes over but security made everyone go back to their seats. In Philly this is. Then at the end, when Stevie came up to the edge, people went crazy,. Pushing forward and whatnot.
L and M. If you are front row..I recommend just pushing forward to the stage as well that way no one can get in front of you! If you have , say third row, and stay at your chair..there will be a flock in front of you. However, there are only a few songs after Edge. I had a bad time in Philly and I had front row. Bitches behind me jumped over chairs and spilled beer on my seat. I had my friend tell security and they tossed the girl back to her seat but she did push her way forward again.
I am not hardcore crazy about touching Stevie and in Vegas I stayed in my row for the Wed show because people are NUTS. If you dont have first or second row, you arent touching her anyway so why surge forward so hard???
It is sort of a dangerous tradition for STevie nowadays...she had hip problems and she is very very small. It would be so easy for someone to pull her off the stage! Her security usually holds her from behind but still, it always worries me. I know when people drink they can do stupid things but grabbing at her and touching her all over, is just WEIRD! I understand wanting to hold her hand and all that but I hate when people get overly aggressive because I think it could scare her. In Vegas, she was concerned about people, PERIOD. No one better say she wasnt. She kept saying "please stop pushing, stay back, are you okay?". "Please, dont push, stay down there, watch out...stay down" . She was apprehensive for her own safety but also for the fans safety. She actually came down steps almost into the crowd in Vegas though.
I warn you, be prepared. Hopefully, it is not anyone from this board who does the obnoxious pushing. Alot of us have shook her hand during EDge before so I dont mind staying back a bit but I wont be trampled dammit.

It would have been laughable if it wasn't so dangerous and insane. I honestly thought there was going to be a riot. There was one guy who kept kneeing me in the ass, as if he thought I was going to move on account of his fat ass. That whole stage rush got me in a foul mood.
Yeah, I was at that show too. I had 3rd row 3 seats in from the aisle and I almost got trampled on from people that were running down from other parts of the venue. I was totally squished in and I obviously did not even get to touch to Stevie. That was OK but just some of the rudeness and behavior could have made for a very dangerous situation.

Last night at PNC there wasn't a rope, it was an actual metal type barricade, kind of like a fireplace screen. If I was in front row I would have been annoyed to no end because the only way to get a good view was to stand the entire time.
There wasn't too much space for people other than the front two rows to move up to due to this barricade, but people were friendly and I let someone who had a gift get in there ahead of me, because I didn't have anything and also I have had the pleasure of shaking her hand before. :)

I've been stealing over to the Eagles fansite to see what they have to say about the shows and they really are a cool group of people. Not one negative word about Stevie. Totally positive and excited she's with him. :xoxo:
It took me about an hour to read through this whole thread, but I can understand HenleyFan's concern with the Edge walk (which really is more like a rush)! Because it isn't just Stevie solo, but the audience consists of both Eagles/Henley and FM/Stevie fans, it's not totally fair that the Eagles fans have to rush the stage at Edge in order to see the stage at all after it, especially if they're not big Stevie fans. At the same time, it's not fair for the Stevie fans to have to sit during Edge and not rush the stage. It's tradition. So, to HenleyFan, it's probably going to have to be a judgement call by you to either stay in your seat or make your way to the stage at the end of BATB (Beauty and the Beast). I shouldn't initial those for the Eagles fans. But , I totally dig your fansite and you really are a cool, respectful group! I'm registered there now as VictimofLove. I agree I love that Eaglesfan site as well, and have learned a lot about the Eagles, and come to enjoy Don Henley more actually thanks to that site. It's very well put together, much better than even their official site (which as we all know often is the case in all fan communities).. I think HenleyFan will find the edge walk/rush is not as a big of a deal as he/she is anticipating. The people moving to the front, should not block his view anyway, unless I guess someone really tall is there....From reading what I'm getting from this most people who are against this tradition seem to be for principle, they dont want someone in front of them who didnt pay as much (but what about someone who paid only $100 for front row, and didnt do any fan club/or all access package, no different)
I see no problem with it , as long as everyone who is in the first row already has their place at the stage that they want to be at.. They usually have no problem with the front row people moving a bout in the area in front of those seats, so if you actually have front row you should have no problem getting the best spot anyway

Taku Hirano had this to say when I asked him about why Don dropped End of the Innocence and Desperado :
"I have no idea about anything in regards to Henley's set. We are generally in our dressing room preparing for our show at that time. I do try to catch Stevie's three songs with him, and she sounded amazing on both nights! I also don't remember having any time constraints at last night's show... we have an opening act on many of the outdoor shows so that the official concert can kick off when it gets a little darker. In some cities, open-air concerts do lend themselves to curfews because of the noise factor. "

At the show in Philly, they slow danced at the end of GDW..sort of like the Tusk slow dance. Stevie put her arms up to do her pose thing in front of Don and he started dancing with her. It was cute and there is a nice photo of it on Micks site. hold on I will get the photo for ya.
Here it is.

There are some drop dead gorgeous shots of Stevie from BaTB...whoever took these pictures has a fantastic lens. My husband was walking by the computer as I was viewing these and he thought they were of Stevie from the 80's. He was drooling  He swears Stevie has lost a ton of weight too!
Some links to ones I like...

Nope, when you have a seat up front you are very very lucky and someone with worse luck should be allowed to improve what they were given.
It's this self-centered attitude that makes me want to stop going to concerts altogether.
I had front row center for Fleetwood Mac during SYW. Paid face value, yes very lucky, also constantly checking Ticketmaster. When I got to the arena, there was already a crowd of about 15 people standing in front of my seat. They were also front row ticketholders, but they didn't have the center seat like I did, so they felt they could just grab the space in front of me. They probably used the same "logic" as above--they should be able to "improve" their situation.
It would be so much better if people would just admit that their behavior is self-centered, obnoxious, and rude, but that they are going to engage in it anyway.

Thanks for the running commentary tonight Chris!
I'm looking at the front page of threads, and it's pretty cool how connected we are. Real time setlists, immediate answers to all the "big" questions, photos and reviews within moments of the concerts, audio and video by the following morning . It's the next best thing to being there. Ledgies rock.
Yes, you all rock. :xoxo:

I think its great that fans are able to walk right up to the stage, If you have a good seat, just secure yourself a good spot at the stage. AND all seats in the first 40 rows or so cost the exact same money, so if someone who is stuck in row 12 or so makes it up front somehow, Thats GREAT.
I agree. I love this tradition and think it is great. I will happily be smooshed so I can get a greeting from Stevie! :) The fans were awful in Vegas with the pushing and shoving. It isn't like that every time though, sometimes it is quite civil even.

more than at a metal show?! :( I have had more experience with stick-in-the muds who want to sit and scream down in front the whole time   than from drunkness at FM/SN shows. See I'm a stander not a sitter I dont go to any concert to sit much less a Stevie show. I say if your going to go to a concert and sit there then you might as well stay home and watch VH1. At least understand that your at a rock concert and people are gonna wanna :blob1: :]
I'm not saying there arent drunks at Sn shows I had the oh so loveable drunk who screamed "sing to me Stevie" right in the middle of BatB during Wednesday in Vegas sitting right next to me. Even more annoying to me was on Tuesday night when I kept getting poked in the back and told to sit! That really burns my Bisquits!!!! Loved how the poker complained to security and they just shrugged her off.
I also love your screen name. You were right next to that jackass? Damn, he was so obnoxious, sorry for your bad luck! And poker girl? What a jerk. I love that they just ignored her, haha. Welcome to The Ledge!

Thanks, Kelly! They look so cute! Do you or anyone know if they do this at every show or was it just a one-time thing? :D
On edit: Well, I know there have only been a couple of shows, but wondered if they did it at just the one?

My friend Kim said it was done at Holmdel too...it is now apparently part of the shickt..(sp?) She did say it looked odd in Holmdel for some reason..Stevie had her face looking OUT, cheek on chest but facing outward. I dunno...that is just what she said. It was pretty cute though.

i dont think it looked odd. they were holding each other for a long time and slow dancing. don said something to her and it looked like they were laughing together and the crowd was cheering.
