Good enough to have been on The Wild Heart? I think it is a lot of fun and would have been a funky addition. The lyrics are a throwaway, but that's just because she made them up on the spot. Unusual for Stevie. And it is a concrete product of her short collaberation with Prince. More substantive than that duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh sound he added to "Stand Back"

Love this song. Still wish she would record it today. Make it really funky. Maybe back in the day it could have been a big hit for her, but I'm sure she's way too goody-goody to do it now and it's permanently shelved.

I haven't heard a definitive answer either way. I can't tell if it really is her or not.

I forgot about this song. I love it! Why it never made the album I will never understand. I don't think she would ever do it today though.

Sure, it's her. They had to have recorded something together, as evidenced by this snippet about "A Thousand Days"

quote
"Days" recounts an abortive, all-night '80s recording session with him at his Minneapolis home during a Fleetwood Mac tour, climaxing with Nicks "smoking my pot - he didn't agree with my lifestyle - and going to sleep on Prince's floor in his kitchen.

I'm not sure it's her, but I like the song.

There's no question in my mind that it's her. It sounds exactly like her - especially at that time. And the doo-doo-doos are so reflective of the one's that are all over the Wild Heart album. Why people don't believe it's her I'll never understand. It's not like she did a porno and the image is all blurry.

I think she's singing on it, but there's no way that she wrote it. It screams of Prince and sounds like *nothing* Stevie would ever write. Even Prince websites have it listed as a song he wrote.

I listened to it again recently and I'm not so sure. It sounds like someone with a similar voice.

I don't have a problem with the lyrics. If it's her then that's fine with me.

This interview (http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/snicksrox/angel.html) indicates otherwise with the following quote.
Once we're there, he just wrote the song, playing the piano, saying to me, "You're writing the words." It was amazing. Then the air conditioning broke down, and I'm sitting in front of a fan telling him, "You have to make me a cassette -- I'm not going back without it." He did, we left, and the recording studio broke down completely. But the song was really neat. It was interesting, because it was real...disciplined.
She never gives the title of the song, but I don't know if the dots need to be connected that closely.

Seeing as how it was never released, with no official songwriting credit given, the Prince websites are likely just making an assumption what with all the songs that he has written for other artists.

Some parts are sketchy, but it sounds like she's in the mix somewhere on the "all over you"s and the herbal-essences-commercialesque moans. But people also think I'm crazy 'cause the guy going "open my windows and close my gate" sounds like Tom Petty to me .

Stevie or not, I've always kinda liked it... it's a fun, only slightly raunchy, little song :p.

It sounds nothing like anything on TWH.

Thanks, I never read that before. :woohoo:

I'm not convinced it's Stevie, simply because the girl singing sounds more like a facsimile, than like the real deal.

But the song was really neat. It was interesting, because it was real...disciplined."All Over You" doesn't strike me as a song anyone would refer to as "real disciplined." Even considering Stevie's tendency to romanticize everything.

The music to the uptempo demo of "I Sing For The Things" sounds a lot like Prince's style to my ears. I've often wondered if that's the song they worked on together.

Yeah, I've never been convinced either. Prince is a techno-freak. Very possible that it's one of his girls, manipulated through some fancy technology. Too me, it's just a little too funky to be Stevie. But, hey, ya never know..

The lyrics to All Over You are definitely not indicative of Stevie's writing style.
I often wondered if Prince got some kind of "ghost credit" for some of the songs on Rock A Little.

I have known this song for a long time, and I have speculated for a long time about this song and wether or not it really is Stevie. IF it really is Stevie and Prince, this would be a dream come true for me because they are both my 2 top favorite artists. I LOVE Prince because he really is so quirky and different, but ya gotta give him credit, he IS a genius and his music is usually really good. And of course, this song is pretty good, too.

ANYWAY, this song would have never made the WH because it was most likely recorded while Stevie was on the WH Tour in the Fall of '83. That quote says Stevie was on tour with FM, but she never met Prince until January 1983, when she wrote "Stand Back" on her wedding night and had him come in that night and play synthesizer on it. And then Stevie has gone to say that the last time she saw Prince was when she attended the "Purple Rain" premiere in July 1984. SO she wasn't even doing anything with FM during that time period. Also, it has crossed my mind if Prince ever helped Stevie with some of those RAL demos. That '80's demo of "Love Is Like A River" is one of my favs and the sound has Prince written all over it! Plus, "Sister Honey" anyone?

What do YOU guys think?

Another thing I remember Stevie saying is that Prince always asked her "Why aren't you more sexual with your music?" or something like that. "All Over You" sounds like a collaboration between them with Prince trying to bring out the sexual side of Stevie.

Yes, it is strange how she says that she went to his house in the middle of a Fleetwood Mac tour when they never toured the whole length of their relationship. She says it again in this interview (http://www.nicksfix.com/q104__interview_may7_2001.htm).
So I went out and spent the day at his purple house. We kind of played around with a song for a little while, in his recording studio a little bit, and then he took me back to be at the Fleetwood Mac plane at, like, three o'clock in the afternoon. I made it back on time to take off and go to the next gig.
Maybe you are right, svnwndrs; maybe it was during the Wild Heart tour. All those planes and performances are probably blurred in the memory.

"All Over You" sounds like a collaboration between them with Prince trying to bring out the sexual side of Stevie.
I think this was part of the reason she referred to it as "disciplined". It didn't come naturally to her.
