Tegan and Sara are a good time. Check out the song Walking With A Ghost and My Number. Those are probably two of my favorites at the moment. They have a lot of albums out--all are really decent so whatever you pick out, you won't be dissapointed with IMO.

Sam is awesome...and i'm not just saying that because i'm a closeted Gilmore Girls fan and she does their music. Her songs are amazing. Martini's & Bikini's is a great start....Baby I Can't Please You, Same Rain, When I Fall....great songs. Hayley will rave about her hardcore to you  Sam rocks.

   That's a gooooood one!

The Innocence Mission - Glow or Befriended (more acousticky)

Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates

Indigo Girls - Swamp Ophelia or Come on Now Social

Maria McKee - You Gotta Sin to Get Saved

Morrissey - You Are the Quarry

Tons and tons and tons more.......

They're almost a young and fresh version of the Indigo Girls (whom I also really like). Some of their songs are rather reminiscent but they definitely have their own flavor. I'll send you one if your inbox can handle it. PM me.

I'm glad you like it. I'd actually look forward to hearing your renditions of some of the songs. I just don't think it's best suited to the Springster. Let's see. Others... hmm. Got the new White Stripes today and I HATE it, so that doesn't go on the list. Have you heard the Feist album, Let it Die? I like it a lot. Also like the Dead 60s album a lot.

I agree with the Picaresque and Martinis & Bikinis recommendations. I would add:

Beck - Guero (and Sea Change, if you don't have that)
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
Badly Drawn Boy - One Plus One Is One (or Bewilderbeast)
Ben Harper - Welcome To The Cruel World
Santa Esmerelda - The Greatest Hits
Devandra Banhart - Nino Rojo
Tracy Chapman - New Beginning
Redemption's Son - Joseph Arthur
Shawn Colvin - A Whole New You
Snow Patrol - The Final Straw
Vienna Teng - Warm Strangers, but get 'The Tower' from Waking Hour on iTunes or something and add it to this album.

Tiff, have you listened to the Reindeer Section, what's-his-name from Snow Patrol's old side project? The most recent album had like 27 of the who's who in the Scottish pop scene on it, but it's really GOOD. I love love it.

And, I can honestly say you're probably the first person to ever mention Devendra Banhart on a Fleetwood Mac board. <3

Ooh. No, I didn't know he had another group. I really don't know anything about them except that Gary Lightbody's voice is like warm maple syrup and he apparently has a history of being in bands with dumb names.

Listening to clips from Son Of An Evil Reindeer on Amazon now, and I'm really liking it. Of course, anything a review calls the "lo-fi folk answer to the Traveling Wilburys," I'm probably going to dig. Thanks!

Really? I love Springsteen the best when he's doing his acoustic thang although Devils And Dust is more rock than Tom Joad I must say.

I think the lyrics on Devils and Dust are spectacular, it's just that the final product didn't move me very much. A lot of people love it, though, and I think he's still fabulous.

I don't have the Juliette And The Licks album but the video for You're Speaking My Language is fantastic!

Damn, it's such a fun album. The songs have such great hooks, they're so catchy, and I'm really impressed with the fact that she produced it herself, wrote all the songs, etc. Haven't seen the video yet, but I did see them on Leno last week doing You're Speaking My Language. I hope it works out because she's incredibly talented and not an actor-turned-singer pop tart like Minnie Driver or Robert Downey Jr. It's worth owning for her impression of Bush on American Boy Vol. 2 alone.

Right, A Boot And A Shoe. It's now on my list.

Hayley, I'm ashamed to say I don't know who Feist are! What kind of music do they play?

Also, what would you recommend from Stephin Merritt/the Magnetic Fields?

Sad to hear the new White Stripes album isn't any good. I must admit the new single didn't impress me much.
Let me know what you think of A Boot and A Shoe- you might have to live with it awhile. But I hope you love it. It's in my Top 5 now.

Feist is a Canadian singer... the album is great. Pop songs with a dash of torch and trip-hop. She has a great voice. You can listen to clips here:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0008KLVW8/qid=1117722958/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/002-7980753-3940032?v=glance&s=music&n=507846

The Magnetic Fields are one of my favorite bands of all time- Stephin's masterpiece is the band's 69 Love Songs, which is a 3 disc set, and is fantastic. It's fantastic, but could probably be a bit much, though. Also good is the most recent album "I."

I can't love the White Stripes no matter how hard I try- I've always liked the singles but the albums have left me cold, and this one just seems aimless, and I miss the inclusion of a really good rock song. It just kinda meanders.
