Jacqueline Susann is my ultimate guilty pleasure. Nothing beats Valley of the Dolls and, my personal favorite, Once Is Not Enough. Drug addicts, incest, murder, orgies, affairs, kinky sex, and UFOs. Love those books.

I LOVE her - and I love to sing with martini in hand and on my piano:

Gotta get off, gonna get
Have to get off from this ride
Gotta get hold, gonna get
Need to get hold of my pride

When did I get, where did I
How was I caught in this game
When will I know, where will I
How will I think of my name

When did I stop feeling sure, feeling safe
And start wondering why, wondering why
Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
What's in back of the sky, why do we cry

Gotta get off, gonna get
Out of this merry-go-round
Gotta get off, gonna get
Need to get on where I'm bound

When did I get, where did I
Why am I lost as a lamb
When will I know, where will I
How will I learn who I am

Is this a dream, am I here, where are you
Tell me, when will I know, how will I know
When will I know why?

In fact, I love her so much, I even like the Bette Midler/Nathan Lane mess caled "Isn't She Great" if for nothing more than Bette as JS barging into the warehouse where her books are being loaded on trucks with cakes and shrieking something about the Teamsters being the most well hung men in America

and do not get me started on Stockard Channing as Florence "Flo" Maybelle  SC is great and that was a power role - but OY the script.

I haul them out every summer. A couple of years ago, they published the sequel to Dolls that Susann had written a treatment for before she died and it was fab. Not as good as the original, but still devilishly entertaining.
hmmm, that's quite the good plan. I should re do those, hopefully I will still have the stomach for them...I'm much less "angsty star" now, then I was then, though...now I'm more "solve the mystery" and "which other worlds exist?" Actually, though, i don't think I've read all hers, so...

I love this thread...

When asked a few months ago at a party what my guilty pleasure was... I said Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. Hands down.

Others:

"Big Brother" - every season I say I won't watch. Every season - addiction city!

"Back in... '80, '81, '82, '83..." You get the idea.

What Not to Wear

"The Bodyguard"

Angels - Jessica Simpson

Kelly Clarkson - tell me you don't bounce up and down when "Since You Been Gone" comes on!

One or two (or many) songs by Celine Dion (sorry, she's like a hometown girl to me. I've met her mom...)

Marshmallow Cookies (You know the ones? Cookie on the bottom, marshmallow glob, covered in chocolate? Perfection in a cookie)

I know, outside this board, it's hands down my number one guilty pleasure! I mean, I've been guilty about it for years! :distress:  Thank god for the Ledge....

No, dude, it's beyond that. I actually can see you accosting some random girl in Caesars who happens to be playing a piano, and then, while she is flustered and trying to get away because she, god forbid, doesn't know the chords to Sara, taking OVAH the piano, with the martini and cig, and belting out any damn thing you please!!! Who loves it? ME!!!! :xoxo: And again, I have to point out, Belting is an understatement!!!! But now, I'm kicking myself, why, oh why, didn't we bust out Queen of Hearts? :distress:

When she says "TEAMSTERS" in that deep voice, I lose it. And I laugh hysterically when she yells at that bloody tree in Central Park. Such a bad movie, but definitely a guilty pleasure. I LOVE when Midler and Hyde Pierce are editing Dolls and they have a discussion over "his dingle blew in the breeze."

Stockard was a hoot.

"This is your Aunt Mabel and I brought farm fresh eggs. Heil Hitler!"

"If a man ever bought that for me, not only would I have sex with him, but I would ENJOY IT!"

That movie is a gay mans wet dream.

She soooooooo ran away from us -- you'd have thought her hair was on fire. And who the hell was she anway. She was all gussied up in that sort of velvet number and she is upstairs in this random area playing that piano with, I think, sheet music. Poor thing - but the sum of us with me at the helm must have scared the bejesus out of her  Didn't we follow her on the escalator too

I believe we (you guys) did...but you were not the sole scarifer, I believe GDW had her hand squawley in that! I think she worked there, and was just randomly messing around on the piano....poor thing. She was obviously not adequately prepared for the magnificence that is the Strand, let alone the all of us. She's just lucky I don't play the piani!

Now that I'm remembering that, it was hella funny!!! Omigod, then on the escalator, right after, there was your ear searing rendition of...something...New York, New York? I was just mesmerized that anyone's singing voice could be so loud..I thought I had a belt on me...oh, no...  :xoxo:
