TISL vs. Street Angel

[KarmaContestant]

Okay, I had to do this. These albums are so different, but this could get interesting! I had to switch the songs up from their running order so that they were...well, a little more competitive. Otherwise, TISL was a shoo-in. Also, I left off Just Like A Woman & Docklands in favor of Inspiration & Thousand Days. :D

Here goes....

Trouble In Shangri La vs. Street Angel

Candlebright vs. Thousand Days

If you haven't heard Inspiration you must! I love it. I always liked SA and when I got back form Vegas I listened to my Street Angel Random cd which has demos, outtakes, and alternates and I fell in love with the album. I don't care what anyone says SA kicks ass! Hell I even LOVE Docklands (minus the laundromat lyrics), especially the alternate version.

I suppose. Everyone's always raving about some demo, and I don't usually like them. I'll give it a go, though. Like, yesterday, someone was talking about Chanel Chanel, so I listened to it, and I was like "ugh!". :laugh:
Docklands is the least of Street Angel's problems, it's a fair song. The most of Street Angel's problems is Jane, second most, Destiny. :laugh: It's okay, I like SA, too.

I'm actually not a huge fan of demos either, although there are a few I adore. I like produced music and effects and quality and you don't get that alot with demos. I wish I could here the demos in a more complete form, like new songs. Then I'd be happy and maybe be able to appriciate them more. SA minus Rose Garden, Jane, and Destiny (although I love the lyrics) and you've got a truly great album.

I need to hear that Chanel Chanel. I don't have it for some reason in my demos...

I'm telling you, Chanel, Chanel, not so great. If I was at home I'd send it. I like lots of the demos of the songs that have been released. For some damn reason, I'll always listen to the demo of Blue Lamp, which is really long, with hardly any singing. :laugh: It's the one where she talks about almost dying at the bottom of the pool, and Mick's ego, and she does weird voices and stuff....it's hilarious. Oh I think she has plenty of worse songs. :lol:

JLAW is kinda depressing and I think that fits in well on Street Angel....hmm I'm not sure if that reads as a compliment or insult, but I mean it in a complimentary way :p

Docklands took a while to grow on me. But once she hits "Iiiiiiiiii beg of you", how can you not love it! Definitely one of her unfairly maligned songs...due mostly imo to 'laundromat" appearing in it. (Not that I'm saying that's why you dislike it ;) )

I like both of these songs. I don't see why Docklands gets a bad wrap. I think her vocal is fab on it. I do agree that the middle and end of the song is better than the first few lines.

Except for "It's Only Love," I love every song on "Street Angel" more than anything on "Shangri-La." The singing on the latter basically ruins it for me.

[David]

Docklands took a while to grow on me."Docklands" is a great, great song -- one of Stevie's shining moments of middle age. Not only is it great listening to Stevie sing it -- whether on the album or live or on her demo -- but it's also cool to play & sing yourself.

It's a song that always comes out beautifully.

I like both of these songs. I don't see why Docklands gets a bad wrap. I think her vocal is fab on it. I do agree that the middle and end of the song is better than the first few lines.

JLAW.... :thumbsup:

I love Stevie's version of Just Like A Woman. She should do more Dylan covers. :nod:

Docklands is tolerable. I've always thought it belonged on Tina Turner's Foreign Affair album, though. Maybe because it was written by Trevor Horn.

I always thought she sounded constipated on this song. I just can't get into it.

[svnwndrs]

Trouble In Shangri La vs. Street Angel

Candlebright vs. Thousand Days

Sorcerer vs. Kick It

Planets Of The Universe vs. Blue Denim

Every Day vs. Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind

Too Far From Texas vs. Rose Garden

That Made Me Stronger vs. Listen To The Rain

It's Only Love vs. Inspiration

Love Changes vs. Greta

I Miss You vs. Unconditional Love

Bombay Sapphires vs. Jane (ew...neither)

Fall From Grace vs. Love Is Like A River

Love Is vs. Destiny

Why did you leave off Docklands though? I really like that song. NOT the released version but the master mix. I actually like the "laundromat" line. There is a story within that song, and that makes it more relatable.

TISL: 6
SA: 6

It's another tie for me.

[KarmaContestant]

Oh, thank goodness, I was like "Inspiration? I have listened and listened to SA, what song is that?" hehehe. Whew. So, why is it included? :D

Surely you know the answer to this....it's the b-side to Maybe Love.

To those who asked...
I left off Docklands because it seemed to be universally despised. Guess I was wrong. :sorry: :shrug: Besides, I had to find a way to add Thousand Days, and God's Garden is just too weird to be included....so I couldn't add that one either....

[Ghosty]

I'll go and be the black sheep and do my comparrison different. How many songs off each cd do I love, like, dislike, and hate

0 = hate
1 = dislike
2 = don't care either way
3 = like
4 = love
5 = love*LOVE*!!!

Street Angel:
Blue Denim 5
Greta 5
Street Angel 0
Docklands 2
Listen to the Rain 3
Destiny 4
Unconditional Love 4
Love is like a River 1
Rose Garden 4
Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind 5
Just Like a Woman 5
Kick It 5
Jane 2 (I was just trying to think of Jane in my head to remember it, to decide do I like it, or not care either way about it...and it came into myhead, then I Miss You started going round in my head...??)

TISL
Trouble in Shangri-La 5
Candlebright 3 (if it was a little different,I'd probably have it as a 4 or 5)
Sorcerer 1 (I love the demo with Fleetwood Mac, that's a big huge 5!)
Planets of the Universe 5
Every Day 5
Too Far from Texas 2
That Made me Stronger 2 (after hearing the demo, it had ideas and sounds pop into myhead where it could have been really awesome, would have been cool with more of a mystical Sisters of the Moon or Gold Dust or Straight Back kind of sound to it....oh well....)
It's Only Love 0
Love Change 4
I Miss You 5
Bombay Sapphires 4
Fall From Grace 5
Love Is 5

So....

Street Angel = 45 points

TISL = 46 points

(if John Shanks produced the whole thing, I think TISL would win by more points for me...I would love if Stevie has himwork on her next solo album wither her...fingers crossed...)

hope I added points correctly -heh!
