Stellar line-up unveiled for Live 8

Madonna, Robbie Williams and Sir Paul McCartney head the stellar line-up for Live 8 - the biggest music event since Live Aid 20 years ago.

Bob Geldof has masterminded five free concerts to take place simultaneously in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Philadelphia on July 2.

The shows aim to raise awareness of Third World poverty on the eve of the G8 summit in Scotland.

They will be held at Hyde Park in London, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Circus Maximus in Rome and the Museum of Art in Philadelphia.

Hundreds of thousands of music fans will attend with billions more worldwide watching on TV.

The line-up for the British concert takes in the biggest names in music.

Robbie, Madonna and Sir Paul will be joined by Coldplay, Sir Elton John, Keane, Joss Stone and REM, to name just a few.

The other concerts will see performances by Stevie Wonder in Philadelphia, Brian Wilson in Berlin, Duran Duran in Rome and Jamiroquai in Paris.

Other stars will be announced over the coming weeks - with the Spice Girls still rumoured to be staging a reunion.

"I spoke to them this morning and it's looking very good," Geldof said. "There's a lot of stuff they have got to sort through. They are trying to resolve differences of many years."

Hope this happens!

Yeah, because Will Smith doing "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" and "Miami" in Philly totally speaks to the spirit of Live Aid.

That **** is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Bananas.

Spice girls axed from Live 8

31/05/2005 - 07:22:23 The Spice Girls have been axed from this summer's star-studded Live 8 charity concert - because the event's organisers fear the band's music undermines the show's serious political message about world poverty.

Word. Not to mention, wasn't Geri Halliwell an ambassador (a job I recall she took quite seriously) or did I make that up? Lame.

Word2. This is the most rediculous thing. :distress: I hope they get to do it and then moon the BBC or something.

Are the Spice Girls well loved in the US then? Most Brits I know would be more than happy if they never reformed!

Wow! It is rumored that there will also be a Genesis & Pink Floyd reunion! Both would be great, but I don't think that there will be a Pink Floyd reunion! Maybe a Genesis reunion, they did it a few times in the last couple of years!

Bob Geldof still sounded hopeful they would get back together from what I read in the paper today.

Ohhhhhhhh, Sharon. Heathers. <3 My favorite movie.

Really? I was totally obsessed with Heathers when I was younger.
I remember even starting a diary because of it!

Oh cripes, I'm still obsessed with it. That has been my favorite movie ever since I saw it when I was ten. My mother was HORRIFIED that I had seen it, too. Best movie ever. Did you get the special edition boxed set that came out a couple of years ago? It had a fake yearbook, the DVD with new extras, a ruler, a reprint of the original poster, and came in this little tin box. I don't care what anyone says, Winona Ryder kicks ass and always has.

I thought I'd change to Veronica in tribute to Winona's latest rock star boyfriend. I just admire her determination to date a musician. It's inspiring.

 Didn't they break up? I read some gossip column that said he broke up with her because she wore him out in the bedroom. He was supposedly lamenting over it at some party. Or maybe it's another dude.

There is alot to be said about the Spice Girls.

But how messed up is it to say they aren't good enough for Live8?! Maddona is? She goes on a personal religious journey, not to help anyone else yet she is valid enough to perform for Live 8?

The **** is bananas!!!!

I guess I'm a few years older than you. I think I was about 15 when it came out and I totally related to the idea of hating your friends. It's just an awesome movie, it's weird how it hasn't become a bigger cult really, I think.

Yeah, I was only ten when it came out. But as soon as I saw it, I knew it was my favorite. Heathers and Rocky Horror both sit at the top. For years there were rumours that they were going to shoot a sequel; the gossip first came out after Winona starred in Alien Resurrection and then sort of petered out. I don't know how good it would have been, but I still would ahve been first in line to see it. The plot was supposed to involve a high school reunion, but it just wouldn't have been the same without Slater.

I sadly didn't get the boxset :( They didn't release that here. Wish I did have it though. I do have the DVD with all the extras (that original ending sounded fantastic!).

I'm glad I got it when it first came out because it went out of print almost immediately (like most Anchor Bay releases do). I'm sure you could get it for a few bucks on Amazon or eBay, though. It's worth it, trust me. I would have preferred the original ending myself, but I still like the one in the movie. Can you just imagine how much darker the movie would have been with the original ending? My word.

On another note, I watched another one of my favorite movies last night, After Hours, and I was never aware of the original ending that they had. Can we say "trippy"?

She's found another rock star to date, Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes.

Here's a list of Winona's rock star conquests (and this doesn't even include the actors she gone out with!)
1989: Paul Westerberg, the Replacements (I don't don't if this is true)
1994: Dave Pirner, Soul Asylum
1997: Evan Dando, The Lemonheads
1997: Stephan Jenkins, Third Eye Blind
1997: Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters
2000: Beck
2001: Ryan Adams
2001: Pete Yorn
2001: Jack White, The White Stripes
2002: Julian Casablancas, The Strokes
2003: Page Hamilton, Helmet
2005: Conor Oberst, Bright Eyes

Winona is my hero.

 I had no idea the list was so long.

And I must be quite the obsessive Heathers fan when I see that she dated Paul Westerberg in '89 and automatically think of Westerberg High.

You're not too cynical to like them?

I became a fan of theirs in 3rd grade. That's faaaaar too early for me to be cynical. That came around 7th grade. ;)

Ahhh, cute.  I was  but now it's become clear.

You know you're jealous of Winona really. Everyone is.
Except me, who doesn't like her, and has never wanted to date a musician!!! :wavey: Yep, you found her, the one girl who never dreamed of dating a musician.

Really??? Not even one of the New Kids On The Block?
Only, maybe, Linds and Steve. Yes, Steve Perry! No, I meant Stevie. But even then, no. Okay, maybe Linds. ok. Musicians always seemed like just the most flagrant assholes on the planet, to me, not to mention that even at a very young age I realized they would be cheating till the cows came home. Plus, they are usually skinny. Shall I go on?

amber
06-01-2005, 04:53 PM
Yes, do go on

Wow, I've always had crushes on musicians. Now, it's more actors for my famous crushes, but musicians turn my head now and again. ;)
Yeah, most girls do. I've always had crushes on my teachers, instead. ;) Actors, yeah, me too, but still, I don't know them, so it's still hard to develop a real crush.

I was talking famous crushes rather than real life ones  although I must say, I've never been lucky enough to have a crush-worthy teacher sadly.
right, and I'm saying I haven't really had a famous crush. :)
