Anyone else watch this show? The premiere was really good. I noticed a lot more sex scenes this season though. Last season there was like one an episode and it seemed like they were trying to tone it down, but there were literally dozens of sex scenes in this episode... I felt like I was watching porn! Does anyone think that in a way this series is bad for the gay community? Like having sex in public with strangers every night! I just wanted to get everyones input. It is a really entertaining show and it is groundbreaking, but I think it may be doing some harm...

I've only watched it, like, once. Didn't really like it very much. I just cannot take Hal Sparks seriously.

It's not reality. Gimme a break. The first season was good. I especially love the rimming scene between Brian and Justin. Hell yeah!! Gale Harold is soooooo ****ing hot!! I hate that word hot, but my mental thesaurus is on the fritz, so I'm using it.

I haven't watched the show in a couple of years. The writing starting going downhill after they mirrored the British version of the show.

All I know about this show is that Hal Sparks loves the 80's, 70's and 90's a lot

I ADORE THIS SHOW. I think Hal Sparks and Gale Harold are both quite f*ckable. Either of them could eat crackers in my bed any day. I have the first four seasons on DVD (my fav episode is still the season one finale, though. I swear I cry everytime!) but sadly, I do not have a subscription to Showtime. :distress:
Therefore, as much as I would love to have seen this new episode, I was not able to. I can only wait until it is made available on DVD. (No sense in signing up for Showtime now since, if I'm not mistaken, the fifth season is to be the last one). :distress:

Edit: To answer your question: Yes I do believe that it is bad for the gay community. Not only does it display the worst aspects of gay culture, it also provides a poor role model for gay youth. I wrote a paper on this very issue for an English class awhile back.
Still - it sure is hot! Not always realistic, but damn sexy. They do address serious issues though - hate crimes, HIV/AIDS, discrimination in the work place, drug addiction, parental rights, etc. So, it's not all bad.

Damn, I busted a gut reading that. I must commit it to memory and use it sometime.

For those who do not watch the show, may I present his royal hotness, Mr. Gale Harold:

I like Gale... not a fan of Hal.

Brian is my favorite character on the show of course. I like Lindsey and Emmet too. But no one can touch Brian- he is just like no other character on tv. I love his loft! And his clothes!

I became interested in the show because of Hal. I saw him on VH1 and thought he was adorable so I rented disc one of the first season and got hooked.

I love Brian, Michael, Emmett, and Debbie. I don't really care for Lindsay or Melanie. I liked Ted a lot initially, but lost interest after the whole porno site thing. I can't stand Justin, Hunter, or Ben (I thought David was much more likeable and sexier).

Have you ever tried watching the British version? I bought it on DVD and just couldn't get into it. I couldn't understand half of what they were saying and didn't find any of them at all attractive.

I watched the opener in spite of itself. I watched the show last year sporadically. I quit watching the third season out of sheer disgust. Since the start, I watched it for the train wreck aspect - I simply couldn't believe a show that bad made it onto television and kept getting renewed. The funnest part is guessing the entire plots at the beginning of each show - it's all so afterschool special and formulaic that it is truly possible to call each story arc within a few sentences of it happening.

I do like Sharon Gless and the character of Emmett really cracks me up. The other characters either bore me (Ted, Bryan, Michael and his revolving earnest or boneheaded boyfriends, the girls), or are unwatchable enough to make me change the channel (Justin,Ted's boyfriends, The dead Uncle Vic). I was so disappointed in this show, as I loved the UK version and found it well cast, well written and well acted. Everything this show IMO is not.

Is it bad for the gay community ? Toss up. People who are going to hate homos already do. People who are gonna like us pretty much already do. It's
TV, no one believes it's reality.

I do remember that Twinkie boy had a violin player boyfriend a few seasons ago that was really a doll. One of maybe three actors on the show I have ever found atractive !

On the other hand, I love the L Word.

On the other hand, I love the L Word.

There is never a shortage of gorgeous women on that bloody show. Jennifer Beals is a stunner, always has been. And I think Pam Grier is eternally sexy, even in Jackie Brown with that horrific stewardess uniform.

I read that Rosie has a three episode stint on Queer As Folk. I may actually watch one of those episodes just for the train-wreck factor. But I'm one of the few who think that she is hysterical ever since she became a total bitch. Her blog is one ****ing funny read.

She was on tonights episode. It was pretty funny. She was playing a waitress and a gay customer yelled at her. She said "Do that one more time and the only way you'll be able to suck anything is thru a straw". I thought it was kind of funny.

I will check that out.

The L Word is funny and very well thought out. The costume designer should be removed, though the things she does are pretty entertaining. Train wreck factor in that. The lighting in the last few episodes was an atrocity - blown out like a home video - but other than that, I really enjoy it.

Ethan? (I think that was his name anyways) Ugh. He was sssooo gross. He has to be one of my least favorite characters, alongside tweaker-boy Blake, Ben (who always looked like a steroid case even before his character started using) and Hunter (gee what surprise, little boy-whore is actually a hetero).

Haven't seen the L Word. Not really that interested.

I thought Ethan was a slimy character, but a hot looking guy.

Hunter repulses me too. At least we agree on one thing ! :wavey:

Most definitely. I've hated him from the start. I cringed when Ben and Michael decided to become his foster parents. He's annoying and he's ugly.

Well, QAF is for entertainment. Of course it will be dramatic and outlandish. I like this show for what it is worth....just a show.

As for the L Word? Boring.

I watched this show ONE time, in a hotel room, only because it was on before "The Chris Isaak Show;" I didn't like "Queer As Folk" too much but I loved Chris Isaak's show (go figure, the one I like was cancelled and has never been released on DVD).

Chris Isaak is so lovable that it's ridiculous. His show was good, too.

Nooo!! I love it. Can't wait until it'll be broadcasted on Dutch tv finally...
But QAF doesn't interest me much. (The British version of course, didn't even know there was an American one.)

Wiat, Hunter is straight? When was this revealed?

It was revealed in one of the episodes of season four. He ends up dating one of the girls at school and having sex with her (after telling her that he's positive).

It was kind of funny because Michael's reaction was kind of a parody of how some straight parents react when they discover their child is gay. "Well do you think we raised him wrong?" "I just always imagined him growing up and finding a nice guy to settle down with."

Holy ****! I've never seen that pic! (drool!)

Has anyone seen the previews for the new movie he did with Michelle Clunie (who plays Melanie on QAF)? I can't remember what it's called but they play a trailer trash straight couple. OMG - Gale and his southern accent! LMAO. They had a little making of featurette in the bonus features of QAF Season four. They also had one for Peter Paige's (Emmett) new movie "Say Uncle," a comedy about a gay man who is accused of child molestation. They both look interesting but I can't find anything about them on the web.

The episode I saw involved a sixteen-year-old gay boy named Justin who lost his virginity. Thinking back, after seeing that, I'm really glad my life hasn't been like THAT character Justin's was.

Justin ends up being one of the central characters of the show. If he'd just lost his virginity (which happens in the first episode of the series) than you caught it really early on.

Totally agreed. It's like a soap opera, only better. I do think some of the content is harmful to the community, but if judged by entertainment value alone, it's really good. It has an excellent mix of drama and comedy plus a whole lot of eye candy.

I'm still hoping that one day Brian and Michael will get together... damn that would be hot! But, alas, that will probably never happen.

I tried to watch Queer as Folk - could not get into it.

For the same reasons I dind't like QAF I wasn't going to watch L Word - but I got hooked.

BUT I've totally missed all but three episodes of this season because I don't have cable= but Season two of the L Word comes out in October :D - on DVD.
