I thought it was a 35-year-old who didn't know high school was over. (That was bitchy; couldn't resist.)

Technically this has nothing to do with this thread, but I saw your other one--points to icon--I dig Tori, too, and I've never seen her live. I hope you get good seats and have a great time at the concert. :wavey:

I think it is a girl who doesn't take **** off anyone, and instead of being all talk she is a girl who takes action!

Especially because of this verse:

So that's right dude, meet me at the bleachers
No principals,no student-teachers
All the boys want to be the winner, but there can only be one
So I'm gonna fight, gonna give it my all
Gonna make you fall, gonna sock it to you
That's right I'm the last one standing, another one bites the
dust

Actually, that would make no sense, as Gwen ain't no Hollaback Girl. :\

Makin' you do her hollaback work for her, is she? If I were you I'd ditch her. ;)

Kidding aside, though, I don't actually have an issue with that song. It's the video that makes me go, WTF?

And you got the "35-year-old still in high school" from "Best Week Ever," didn't you? ;)

Right. I must've gotten confused for a second. ;)

Also, that's not Moe Tucker and John Cale in your avatar, is it?

As for your sig quote:

Actually, I don't watch "Best Week Ever", so I don't know what you mean. But if you've seen the video, you will notice that she is, in fact a 35-year-old parading around in high school, in a band uniform. And that she seems to have an affinity for high schools in general. :wavey:

Something about how she was 35-year-old who thought she was still in high school. But I know you could get that just from watching the video.

I'll try to come up with something more original next time, since it seems to be important. :wavey: Like her perpetual entrapment in the Eighties. ;)

For a minute you had lost me with the second sentence and then "It's My Life" dawned on me. Is that what you were referring to? Oh wait, and the video for "Hollaback Girl" does kind of say "Oh Mickey you're so fine." Damn, I'm slow.

I used to like this song and album. It has kinda ran it's course for me. I shelved it about a month ago. The songs just don't stand the test of time. The video doesn't help with that much.

There's good retro and there's bad retro. Her solo album falls into the "bad" category. I like Gwen, but that album is stupefyingly awful. Though I do like Whatcha Waiting For, even if it has some of the worst lyrics ever penned and ranks right up there with Stevie's swill Ghosts.

Oh, for Heaven's sake, I know that! I meant it's important on this board to have something original to say, to not recycle stuff, because everyone has their own humor and wit; I should have made that clearer in my post. I hope you didn't think I was getting all rawr!! on you in my post. :sorry:

That, and the sort of high-school-girl song lyrics, and the nails and lips and all that--very retro. Some of it's kinda cool, some of it's a little farfetched.

Anyway, I hope we're cool now. :wavey:

Yeah, and she pushes the line. Some of it works; a lot of it doesn't. I liked "It's My Life" a lot, though.

She's okay; I have Return of Saturn and um, whatever the hell the last one No Doubt did was called. I liked RoS pretty well, never listen to what's-it-called anymore. Haven't heard the her solo album. I kinda think of her/them as a club band, so I don't really care what their lyrics--if I want killer lyrics I listen to--well, someone else.

And I like "Ghosts." I like the whole Dickens metaphor. OSOTM doesn't move me much, but I do like that and a small handful of others.

I have no idea what it is but it sounds like the most absurd thing I've ever heard. What a **** song! Those lyrical geniuses that fill top 40 radio, eh?

Haha. I'm... not sure. I cropped the cover for Sonic Youth's Goo for my avatar. I'm not sure if it's based off of Moe & John or not. That'd be awesome, because I love them both. I'm a big Velvets fan.

And yay, someone gets my Meat Puppets reference. ^_^

I don't hate Gwen. I think she's done some interesting stuff. I just don't think a song that contains the word bananas makes for a good song. It's kinda like Stevie integrating the word chimpanzee into a song. Another all around bad idea!

And bring Meg Ryan on! I'll poke her lips with a pin, they'll deflate and her life will be forevah ruined!

mmm, yeah, okay. Have you heard the song? Simply irresistible. Maybe I'm immune to the Bananas, in fact I like it, because it was part of a cheer I had to chant when I was young, and on softball teams...I just think it's perfect.
I can't wait to send Meg over, and watch her zizzzzzzzzzzzzwhooooosh around the room after you pop her lips!!!
In fact, that part of the cheer went..."go.bananas.beayenayenayess!!!Go.bananas.beyayenayenayess!!!lean it to the left, lean it to the right, peel your banana and mmm, take a bite!!"  What a dumb cheer....good times....

But nothing beats No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom to me. That album rocks.

I am glad that someone else asked this question, because I wondered the same thing, but thought I must be stupid not to know the answer :)

However - I don't understand what the hell B-A-N-A-N-A-S had to do with anything

Thanks! Not knowing some of the "hip" stuff sure makes me feel old

I sort of like it, dunno why. I am just weird like that. The whole Harujuku girl thing is really eccentric, in a bad way

Btw, Deadliestpoison- I love your Patti Smith icon, you have no idea.

A hollaback girl is a cheerleader

you know, how lots of old cheers were like "give me a T" and the holler back would be "T" and then they'd spell something...

What is a Hollaback Girl?

Hell if I know but that damned song (and video) gets on my nerves. And what's with this Japanese-Girls-As-Fashion-Accessories **** anyways? Enough with the Harajuku crap already!

Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of No Doubt's work and I enjoyed "What You Waiting For?" (though I think Tom Petty did a better job with the whole Alice In Wonderland themed video) but the album is utter crap. It was given to me for Christmas - I tried to get into it but my better judgement wouldn't allow that. So I burned "What You Waiting For?" to a compilation CDR and shelved the album.
