BEVERLY HILLS, California (AP) -- Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone was arrested for investigation of drug possession and driving while intoxicated, police said Saturday.

Stone, 58, was arrested Friday night at a police checkpoint on Sunset Boulevard after showing signs of alcohol intoxication, police Sgt. John Edmundson said.

A search of his Mercedes turned up drugs, Edmundson said. He did not specify what kind.

Stone was released Saturday morning after posting $15,000 bail.

A message left Saturday with Stone's agent David Styne was not immediately returned.

In 1999 the filmmaker pleaded guilty to drug possession and no contest to driving under the influence and was ordered into a rehabilitation program.

Stone's films include the recent "Alexander," "JFK" (1991) and "Natural Born Killers" (1994).

He won Academy Awards for directing in 1989 for "Born on the Fourth of July" and in 1986 for "Platoon," which also won the Oscar for best picture.

He lives in Los Angeles.

I still have to see it, and right now, I'm not very encouraged to. Yesterday, in a bookshop window there was a Tv screen with the movie on, and to see a blond Colin Farrell dressed in a tunic, doing puppy eyes around, freaked me out a bit.

This is as surprising as Jacko's indictment. Stone is a huge coke fiend!

What I don't understand is why he didn't just have a driver? How dumb is that?

You're questioning the dumb-ness of the man that just recently gave us Alexander and those lovely documentaries on Castro, dear.

Driving whilst on valium is less fun and more terrifying although safer than alcohol.

Oh and Diss, I got out Dogville to see what you've been talking about. If I'm not impressed you owe me $1.

I'd rather compensate you with a swift kick in the ass. Unlike most, you're into good cinema, so you should enjoy it. I love Lars. The commentay is good because he discusses what he would have done different; listen to it if you got it on DVD.

Check out the listing on the IMDB for ****s and giggles. Reading the comments from some of those flag-waving nuts is priceless.

Lux, have you been randomly deleting your posts? I keep seeing replies to your posts but not the posts themselves.
