Well I'm going to New Mexico next week so I got the old trunk of summer clothes out :distress:

I can't believe how much weight I've gained in the last year....I'm SO down on myself right now...it sucks.

Damn me and my love of all things chocolate and fatty.

Stupid summer clothes

I'm sure you don't look bad in the least. You probably notice it more than anyone else. In fact, I'm willing to bet that no one else actually notices it at all.

But I do know how much it sucks not to fit into your old clothes like you used to. I've certainly gone through that. But know that it doesn't mean you're fat at all.

Aw thanks - and no I don't think those who see me on a day to day basis notice anything - but yeah - it sucks to basically not fit into an entire wardrobe

I know it's no one's fault but my own - perhaps this is the wakeup call I needed to truly get my ass in gear and hit the gym BIG TIME - and more importantly to stop eating so much crap.

My diet has really gone to pot this year - but it was a big transition year - and now that I'm getting more settled I hope that my diet will improve :D It's not the meals that do it - it's the snacking - I'm SUCH a bad snacker...

For most, weight fluctuates, right? Blame it on the fact that it was a transitional year; those kind just seem to call for more eating because of emotional situations. I think that's totally human. You'll probably feel better once you commit to working out because you'll be happy that you're helping matters by doing so, but don't drive yourself crazy over it. At one point you were skinnier, but that doesn't mean you don't look good now by any means.

I know exactly how you feel. Clothes that fit me great last summer look horrible now! I can still fit into them but everything looks tiny on me. And I can't blame it all on my clothes shrinking in the dryer! I have decided to be proactive though. I signed up for the gym this week and I can pick up my membership card tomorrow. I have a couple months before school starts in August and I want to be looking pretty good. It is not even that I mind being a little "big" but when my clothes look bad on me I get mad! I love to shop for clothes and when the trendy stuff looks comical on me I know there is a problem! Okay, maybe that is a bit of a stretch but I feel like I can't wear the "fun" stuff because I am too busy disguising my stomach!

Oh and thanks for the compliments guys...

Really I'm not searching for compliments....I'm just terribly bored tonight and made the mistake of trying on all my summer clothes :D

I have got to keep in shape because if I don't fit into my winter clothes in a few months then I'll really be angry with myself...

You probably notice it more than anyone else.
This is true. I had something happen tonight that sort of irked me. Since I lost my job in mid-March, I've been cooking balanced dinners and eating only rice crispies for breakfast. I've also cut out all sweets. Well, I never bought sweets, but they almost littered my old office, and I'm a man of very little will power. I've also cut out Ginger Ale, beer, fast foods, high fatty foods, snacks, and have seriously cut down on carbs (though I'm not on Adkins). The end result is that I've actually lost twenty pounds in the last two months. So, I went to a bar to see two friends play in their new bands tonight. Most of the gang was there. Nobody noticed. :( God, I feel like honkin' down Twinkies and beer right now. So, don't worry. Not only will they not notice, they won't care!

I put on at least 15 pounds. I was really depressed this year, and I would hardly eat. Now that I'm better, I'm putting on all the weight I lost. See, I'M fat. Deanna, you're far from fat. Believe me.

I know how ya feel. When I went to England in November/December 2003, I was about 140 or something (I'm 5 foot 1 inch tall), not fat, but needed to tone up. I came home at 125 or something and at Christmas, all I heard was "OMG, you've lost weight, you look great!" I bought clothes in London because the jeans I took over were getting way too big. I went to the Salvation Army the day before I left to donate my old clothes.

Well, fast forward...and now, I'm back up to 140 (just now weighed. LOL). If I could get into some sort of routine, I'd lose weight. Walking worked big time for me in England. I've never walked that much in my life. LOL I ate less (and better) too. I'm good at starting to exercise, but then quitting for whatever reason.

I had a bad habit of snacking at like 11PM not long ago...cut that out. I still snack, but not late at night. Love me some chips, chocolate, Pepsi. Also, I don't eat chips out of the bag, I put some on a paper towel, so I won't eat too many. I buy huge chocolate bars (from Cracker Barrel) and eat a few squares only.

I wish I could eat fruit. :( When I eat oranges, bananas, watermelon, canteloupe or whatever, my throat closes up and my chest hurts. I think it's the pesticides or something I'm allergic to. Perhaps I could try organic foods.

Exactly. I ride a 25 pound roller coaster. I want to weigh 160, and my body wants me to weigh 180/185. I can be 160, but it means being hungry ALL the time! And, while I care a little- and no one should allow themselves to be OBESE- life's too short to go around hungry all the time!!!!! I feel we should enjoy life, not torture ourselves into looking like some screwed up view of what society deems we must look like.
And, at the end of the day, no one's going to love you anymore because you're 20 pounds lighter.

Deanna,
Don't feel bad. I bought a swimsuit and I took it home to try it on. I guess that I did not get the memo that I was fat. Anyway that is going back this weekend. I bought it right before my Vegas trip. I did lose some while walking miles in Vegas, however. Even though I ate pretty well at the buffets I really did not snack like I did at home. Well not too much.
I think that if you have an activity that keeps you busy you are less likely to hit those cupcakes and chips. Walking is a really good way to lose weight. When I was taking that photography class I was too busy going out and walking around to stay home and eat. When I did get home I was busy editing my photos and I just did not feel like snacking that much. I have to say that I felt really good. I have to get back into it. The last month was crazy. I did not have any car from May1st to May16th. I came home from Vegas sick and to some awful weather here in RI. Hopefully we will get some nice weather and I can get some nice photos. I did get a few in Vegas that I will post later.
Anyway, I really think that your brain (well mine does) needs to find an activity to focus on so that you don't get bored and then find a need to compensate by eating junk. Work or sitting at the computer is NOT an activity because all I want to do is EAT!

Yeah - I think a hobby would definitely help. I will be bringing my bike back from New Mexico - so hopefully that will help a little...

I did go to the gym today - then I went to Kohl's and bought some Capri pants that actually fit me...:D

I'm feeling a bit better today - after a nice workout and then I walked my dog - life IS too short to deprive myself of foods and things I lov e- I just need to learn to not overdo it.

BTW - I'm reading a hilarious book called, "I'm Not the New Me" by Wendy McClure who also writes for Television Without Pity...

It's GREAT for anyone who has ever struggled with weight

This is me, exactly. I have a closet full of clothes that I bought when I weighed 125, and now..... well, they look like ****, those that actually fasten.

I go back and forth with the same 15 pounds, but trouble is, the older I get, the harder it will be to lose them....it'll turn into 20-30 pounds more!!!

But, life is too short to starve, so I'll just keep on jogging and doing weights, and hopefully I won't gain any more!! I have a serious night-time snacking problem, too. I LOVE to have cookies and milk when I'm settled in front of the tv or while reading. Yesterday, I bought some of those 100 calorie snack packs of oreo (slivers, really). If I can just eat one pack, maybe this will work!!!

I'm sure someone will notice eventually. Are you tall? If you are, it's probably just hard to notice that you've lost it. I'm very tall, so when I lost all the "extra pounds" as a teen, I had to lose quite a bit before it was noticeable that I had lost anything. And congrats!

I think they notice it, it just isn't a big deal to them, so they don't really say anything about it. From what I've seen in my lifetime, women and former fatties like myself are the only ones who *really* notice weight gains or weight losses. It's when people gain a few pounds and exclaim "I'm fat!" when I roll my eyes.

I might actually be a girl but I exist in a guy's head (except for the fascination with breasts and all) and I would never notice that kind of thing. My friend would dye her hair artificial red, then black, then blonde etc. and was pissed off at me for not noticing. My mother always gave me the same guilt and then when she lost all this weight and I didn't notice, I was the most insensetive daughter imaginable. This very sensetive mother who convinced me I was fat by about grade 4. She would even tell me I was fat when I had anorexia and used to congratulate me on my weight loss when I ate nothing but one kiwi fruit a day and encourage me to go under my sister's size like it was a competition. I like to be fat just to piss off my mother although it is slightly depressing, not the weight, the actual reaction to food is depression.
That's hella lame. My family is kinda the opposite, when I'm at my normal weight they're all "are you anorexic?!" and like that. And when I visited the last time, I was 15 lbs more than i had been the last time they saw me, and my mom said "you look thin, are you eating?!"  Although i think once my dad slipped me a "move your fat ass" Although I think that was a joke. I think they generally prefer that I am puffed up like...well, a puffed up person, I guess.

You should read Camryn Manheim's book Wake Up, I'm Fat! She talks about going shopping with her mother and when she goes into the fitting rooms, her mother slips her clothes many, many sizes smaller than she wears. Not exactly subtle.

Puffed up as a nicer, healthier way of putting it. My mother would get at me for being too thin and weak when I was at my peak and had to threaten me to get me to eat, and then when I put it all back on she'd tell me I was fat again. I say, women are insane so don't listen to them. Anorexia and obesity are great for keeping in mind when you thrive on depression. It's just a matter of whether you prefer the pain of the resulting self-loathing or the pain of your stomach consuming itself.

I suppose I shouldn't have laughed, but it was a bit funny. I suddenly recalled being all upset that I was "fat" in seventh grade, and telling my mom cause I was so sad. She was all "well, maybe 5 pounds", but then, sometime while we were fighting, or something, she would scream that I was fat, a fat bitch or something. I wonder why that changed? But what I learned from that is, never tell your mom if you are sad about something, because she will cruelly use it against you at some later date, cause she is a bitch....
The pain of your stomach consuming itself...i've never been able to fast, really. I guess the self loathing is my bag! (My bag of Cheetos, that is).

Perhaps the laughing is commiserating over the fact that mothers can be the worst.

The pain of starvation can be very addictive. It's like an accomplishemnt, I mean, it feels like it at the time. I personally wasn't in it for the weight loss thing, but when you're a masochist, getting through a school day in physical pain and a state of being on the verge of fainting, it felt oddly good.
Yes, that's what I've heard. It's like a 'runners high' without running. A 'starvers high' I suppose. Anyway, I've never been able to accomplish that magical state of existence...If I did, though, I probably would feel accomplished...

(you all probably hate me  )
But about stupid comments from people.. there's several guys (it's always the men!) at work who've commented whenever I eat a candybar, or even just bread, that I shouldn't eat so much because I would get fat. HEL-lo, that's the point!
It's SO ridiculous that I really don't give a damn, I just laugh about it in their faces, but I can imagine if you're not underweight that that sort of comment would hurt and make you insecure.
Uh.. conclusion: people are stupid.

The whole western society is obsessed about weight, and especially for women. That's the only explanation I can come up with for people to even comment on me, when it clearly makes no sense at all.

I think weight issues can go both ways...

And why people think it's okay to remark about how skinny someone is I'll never get - I've got a couple of really really thin friends and they get rude and insensetive remarks all the time...

So they're just as insecure in their bodies as I am in my slightly chubbed out body....

true.. I know some for who that's true as well.

apart from those dumb remarks about what I eat, I do get a lot of "you've got nothing to complain about, do you?".

If I hear, "Are you anorexic?" or "Here's a burger," I will scream! I eat.

It has a lot to do with genetics, IMO. Not all overweight ppl eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not all underweight ppl are starving themselves. Stereotypes...hrump!

I really hate the food police and get pissed off if people comment on what I am eating. I can't believe how some of your mothers have called you fat. I grew up with a sedentary Mom who was never happy with her weight but never able to successfully get down to a weight she was happy with. I was a thin kid and could eat whatever I wanted until puberty. Then I got all screwed up about food and they say that girls with a critical mother who has body image issues herself will likely develop this problem. Although my Mom never commented on my weight she was highly critical of herself and other people and I figured, even if she didn't say it out loud, of me too.

But I never actually was over weight until my late 20s. The charts said I was over weight but I still don't really think I was. Then last year a doctor told me to lose weight and I was like. Well, I have lost some and it does feel great. The real key is to do things that make you feel good and you'll be on the right track. Things that support your self-esteem. Also, it has to be gradual. Make a small change, when that is habit, make another, and so on. And always do it in a positive light, NEVER beat up on yourself because you'll never get anywhere. Exercise because it makes you feel good, not because you "should because I'm a fat ass". Eat healthy foods because they make you feel good not because "if I eat another cookie I will jump off a bridge"

Anyway, this is a constant battle for me but to gain perspective I realize that obese people have goal weights heavier than mine and I am a fortunate person to not have to battle that type of issue. For those that do I can only imagine the difficulty and the hurt.

Great post, Suze and you're right

I totally need to get to a place where I am not beating myself up constantly aboout the way I look/eat.

I'm not grossly out of control or anything - but I enjoy my sweets.

I didn't have critical parents or anything - I really don't know where my body image issues came from? I remember being really young - like 7 or 8 and telling my mom I didn't want to wear shorts because I was fat and she freaked out and was like, "YOU ARE NOT!!" And then she took me to an aunt of mine who was a health guru to talk some sense into me and my aunt tried to convince me I wasn't fat..

Hmmm.....perhaps I should enroll myself into therapy

I really don't know where these issue emerged for me

Anyway - I'm off to eat my healthy lunch in which all of the food groups are represented :D

There is a strange bias toward thinness in this culture that affects everyone, even doctors. I don't think those charts are correct, you didn't look 25 pounds overweight to me! I didn't think much of my weight, except when going out with my thin roommate and getting ignored , until my doctor for my back told me losing weight would help it. I wasn't talking about charts, I was talking about how much I weighed when I was at a normal weight and in good shape. Which was 25 lbs less than I weigh, now. Yeah, my doctor told me the same thing when I was younger, about my back, though I was only about five pounds up. Really, you probably just need to strengthen your back muscles.
Yes, all my friends are thinner and hotter than me, it sucks. Your weight obsession may never end, I don't know. You looked fine to me, though. There is a strange bias towards thinness.
Of course, the problem comes in that, even if a person is healthy, in good shape, their body fat is down, etc, most will still not look like a model. Either they won't be as well proportioned, or they just won't be built that thin. And, their boobs may not be that big (except Marissa  ). Which is kind of sad. I think people should strive to be in good shape, but should also accept their bodies how they are when they are in good shape. I'll never be smaller than a size six or eight, but when I'm in that kind of shape, I still think I'm hot. :woohoo:

This article is interesting and discusses the bias toward thinness that even obesity experts have. Also, Dr. Weil talks about this in his book 8 Weeks to Optimum Health.

http://www.cwru.edu/provost/centerforwomen/hlthissues.html

...Size Acceptance Activists Call for Tolerance
Some grassroots health activists however, say women don't need to lose weight as much as they need to stop judging themselves and start embracing their bodies as they are.

These health advocates say there is something wrong with a society where mainstream magazines peddle razor-thinness, where airlines charge heavy customers for two seats instead of one, and where three of the most popular television shows--"Fat Actress," "The Biggest Loser" and "Fab to Flab"--poke fun at the overweight.

They say stereotypes of the overweight as lazy or weak--which isolate them and boost their risk for depression--have become as epidemic as obesity itself. They quote a 2003 Yale University study that found even health professionals who specialize in obesity have "a significant pro-thin, anti-fat bias." They cite a 2004 Dole Nutrition Institute poll that found 40 percent of college students would sacrifice a year of life if it guaranteed they could remain thin for life...

Well, that is wrong, too, obviously, and I think women should accept themselves for what they are, but I also think they should try to eat healthy and exercise. It's not cool to descriminate against overweight people, but it's also not that cool to be overweight. It often means you are eating poorly and not excercising enough, which is bad for you.
And the models are very, very, thin. Sizes 6-8 wouldn't be too unreasonable.

But I agree with you that one needs to be active; it's bad to be overweight because you never get up off the couch, regardless of how overweight you are. I'm just trying to make the point that not all those who wear "plus sizes" look gross and/or aren't active.

It's a long way from that size 8 to the people who were on that reality show on VH-1 where the celebrities were supposed to lose weight and such. Some of them were pretty huge. (What was that called again?)

On another note, I may be narcissistic ( ), but I tend to crush on women who are about my size. Not always, but most of the time. The last couple were a tad bit smaller and a tad bit bigger--one wore about a 12 and the other about a 20. I'm so drawn to that for whatever reason.

Why not? This is the perfect example of how everyone's different & we should not all aspire to be a certain size. There is a HUGE difference in health consequences if someone is 20 poounds overweight vs. 120 pounds overweight. It also depends on where you carry it (if you're an "apple" or a "pear.")

Amby, we wear the same size yet you claim to be 25 lbs overweight (which I highly doubt having spent 3 DAYS with you, but anyways...) and I am about 10 or 15 pounds overweight. So who is the correct size 12, and who is healthier? Am I healthier than you just because I am not as overweight as you claim you are? I work out in a gym, but you walk more & roller blade all over the place. You still smoke but I quit 5 years ago (with the exception of about 4 cigs a year.) We both drink beer, so I guess that's a draw, lol.

I guess what I mean is that size/weight is just a number. Granted, that number should not be really, really high, but the difference from a size 10 & a size 14 to me is not really a life & death deal. At my heaviest I was 158, got down to 144 for a while. Now I'm around 148. Should I be closer to 135-140? Probably. Should I stress about it? Probably not. I try to eat a balanced diet & exercise frequently & still I will never be a size 6. I never have been. I'm OK with that.

It's not like I'm going to give up beer to drop those last few pounds. That would be insane. :D

:DI couldn't agree with you more.

I hadn't seen the post where Amber said that. Kind of wish I hadn't now. :o

Very well put, thank you! I needed some perspective because I have been stressing about this. It's so stupid. At my heaviest I was 162 and am now 154 which I have never admitted before. Only my doctor knows my weight, knew my weight that is! :D I'm feeling so free! :xoxo:

Well, I don't think you should stress, but you know what the range of a good weight is for you, and if you think it's healthy enough to be 15 lbs overweight, that's fine, for you. The difference between a 10 and a 14 for me is probably, like, 10-15 lbs. I, personally, think it is not exceptionally good for me to be 25 lbs overweight. No, it could be worse, obviously, but I still don't think it's good. I mean, is it a coincidence my knees started hurting more? And, again, I don't think people should ever feel bad about how they look, or what they weigh, but I do think people should try to be as healthy as possible, and excercise a lot. You, obviously, do that, which is great. I know how I eat, and I know I shouldn't be eating like that. So...
P.S. I'm not giving up beer, either....

Honestly, much of what has been expressed in this thread is enough to make lots of girls/women who are my size, smaller than me, and bigger than me feel pretty bad about the way they look. I usually feel pretty good about the way I look so I am not begging for sympathy or anything of the sort (if I were, I would basically just come out and say so because I am just that direct  ), but this is enough to make someone feel ****ty about her weight. The idea that 14 is overweight is astonishing to me.

And frankly, my understanding is that there are far more health problems that result from years of smoking than being slightly overweight. I don't mean to ruffle feathers with that statement, but having dealt with a death related to this fairly recently, it seems like a glaring point.

EDIT: I do understand that none of you are trying to make anyone feel bad and that most of this is just venting and it's personalized and not directed at others, so I don't want to make y'all feel bad--my post just needed to be posted.

Oh, I see you picked up Der magazine, too. of course smoking is bad. But just cause I haven't quit smoking doesn't mean I can't also try to lose weight, if I want.
I'm sure you look fine, and you shouldn't feel bad because someone else thinks they are heavy at their weight, which is a smaller size then your weight. It has nothing to do with you, it has to do with them, and how they want to be, and how their body is, and what they are comfortable with, which is entirely different from your perspective on all these things.

That's a good point, but I don't really care how anyone else looks, I don't think anyone should look a certain way, etc. I have not said anything that should make anyone feel bad. Except, that if someone is overweight, they may not be getting all the nutrients they should - which is an expression of concern, not a judgement on someone's looks. Me talking about how I feel about myself should be fine, and others should not extend that to mean that I think they should look a certain way. And, my suggestion that perhaps size 14 should not be the national average - I stand by that, you and I both know how much crappy crap Americans eat - And yes I realize that some people will be a 14 naturally, or whatever. But I, again, am not referring to looks, I am referring to health. Paula brought up a good point that, perhaps, the difference of 15 lbs isn't very much, and people shouldn't be concerned. I tend to disagree, somewhat.

Suze - I am literally shocked that you say you weigh 154. That's not a lot, IMO, but my point is that I would have pegged you at more like 135, 140 tops. Seriously! And I'm not just being nice either. I never would have guessed. So feel good about that.

And Amby - I agree that people need to be comfortable with the way they feel. If you're not happy with extra poundage, by all means try to lose it slowly & in a healthy way (I know you will :xoxo: )

I just worry about how people must feel when we're getting upset about an extra 10 or 20 pounds & they may carry an extra 100 pounds. No, it's not healthy. But neither is tress, low self esteem, or depression. I also worry that a young girl who is naturally a size 10 or 12 will think she's fat & will starve to try & get down to a size 6 because that's what a woman should be.

There are a lot of reason why people are overweight...and it doesn't always mean that they don't exercise or eat right.

Thyroid issues...other health issues...there are some people who cannot help their weight and that's the truth

And I maintain that it IS healthier to be heavier than "ideal" but exercise and eat right than it is to be thin and drink and smoke and not eat right or exercise....

Just because a person is an "ideal" weight doesn't make them healthier than someone like me who is carrying around an extra 20 pounds or so...

And yeah - I can see your point Hillary, where this thread could make some feel bad - and that wasn't my intent.

This is true. Obese people's bodies store ever single itty bitty extra calorie as fat. Their bodies are more efficient at doing this. They often eat the same as or less than thinner people. They can make different food choices and lifestyle choices and lose the weight but it is much more difficult for these genetically predisposed people to stay thin. My ex has an obese friend and Sean eats way more than this guy and is thin. This is really unfair and sucks for them and people should be more compassionate about this, obese people are the most discriminated against here. It's horrible.

:xoxo: It's all in the booty, babe. :D On the scale at the gym, I hate having to push that big weight thing over to the 150 mark, I can't wait to be 149! My goal is 145. I think that is healthy and doable. I hope. :D

I always look at it this way--weight, like age, ain't nothing but a number. Plus, factor in muscle mass (muscle weighing more than fat, btw) as well as consideration of height and in my case and your case as well, you're going to be a bigger number and more than likely, not look the number. I don't think you look like you weigh 154. I spent many years of my life trying not to look my number when in reality, the number doesn't matter at all as long as you lead an active lifestyle and have a decent amount of fruit and veggie intake and drink plenty of water. Not everyone can be a twig and honestly, I wouldn't want to be one.

. . . In high school I thought I was fat at 120 lbs because I wasn't skin and bones.

I think it is all about self-perception. When I weighed 195 pounds and others thought I looked great a la the pics I posted, I thought I needed to lose ten more pounds. Well. losing ten more pounds would have NOT been healthy. But, no one could have told me that then. So, I learned from that to step back and judge objectively not subjectively my weight. Of course at close to 300 pounds, I needed to lose weight. But, now at between 220 and 230, I could stand to lose 20-25 more, but I am fine the way I am. Admitting that is hard though because almost everyone somewhere in them wants to be thin - which is not always healthy, esp. in how you get to thin.

Oh, yeah. I remember 120 & size 7 pretty well - I was about 14 years old  . I also remember when the scale started creeping up to 125 I was mortified. The thing is, I've always had the same body shape, even when I was 25 pounds lighter. Always a pear...

Right now I'd be glad to be about 140, but again - I'm not going to give up good food & work out for an hour 7 days a week to do it. Did I mention I'm not going to give up beer either? ;)

I have a good friend who is probably about 40 or 50 pounds overweight. She tries every fad diet, exercise tapes, whatever. She always sets herself up for failure by aiming to lose about 75 pounds  . Dude, try for 10 first & don't be so damn hard on yourself.

She's always whining "but I was a size 6 in high school!" To which I reply "You're 35 years old - it's not normal to be as thin as you were when you were 15." I've tried to encourage her, I've tried to help her, I've tried to MYOB, I've tried to beat her up  . Her self esteem is so low & it makes me so sad for her. She's so pretty, a fun person, owns her own home & car. And all she sees in herself is that she's "fat." :distress:

Sounds familiar, I've always had the same shape too, but instead of medium top/large bottom I was small top/medium botton. Hehe.

I feel bad for your friend too, that's awful. Maybe some psychotherapy is in order to lift her self-esteem up.

Not at all. Just having my little joke. :xoxo: (I mean, your point was obvious, but you shouldn't feel stupid :woohoo: ).

Deanna, you look SO great in that photo you posted!

Question for everyone--y'all keep mentioning these body shapes, and I've never been quite clear on that. I've heard that it's bad to be an apple, but I guess I'm not clear on the pear thing. I would say I'm a pear but pears don't have DD things near the top of them. Are there other shapes named for fruits?

No, no other fruits. If you gain weight on your boobs and stomach, you are an apple. If you mainly gain weight on your lower body, you are a pear. If you gain wait pretty evenly, you are a papple.

Whatever the case, papple is funny.

No, you don't have to be obese to be an apple, it just has to do with weight distribution. Um, if someone is flat chested, but they gain most weight on their stomach (which probably doesn't happen that often anyway) they would still be an apple. It's supposed to be worse for your heart health to gain the weight closer to your heart and organs, as opposed to down on your hips, thighs, and bun.

I have heard that they're going to be bad for my back, eventually, though.

If you are not overweight much, then just having "big boobs" isn't bad for your heart. But if you gain quite a bit of weight, and you mostly gain it in your upper body, that's supposed to be less healthful. But it's not just a "big boob" thing, it's a too much extra fat thing. But if you don't have that, then you don't need to worry! :)

But on sort of another note, I certainly do have a love/hate relationship with them, since people compliment me on their size and I technically like the way they look but I have to pass up so many cute tops because they wouldn't button over them or I just looked like a whore wearing them. But I'm sure we chicks have had this conversation in other threads several times.

I'm sure we have. At which time I probably said I'm glad mine are small, cause otherwise I'd look huge, and that also I love being able to wear the most whorish shirts and tank tops, and still have everything be all innocent and nice, simply due to lack of boobage!!! Or something like that. :wavey:

It's better to be either hourglass shape (big boobs & big hips with a waistline) or a pear (smaller on top & middle but still big hips.)

If you carry your weight on your abdomen, arms, back & waist but not so much on hips/butt, Amber's right - more cardiac issues. Incidence of heart disease, clogged arteries, high cholesterol, etc. are increased.

Not that anyone cares. Hell, I'll talk to myself on here and I think I've done that before.

Honey, we all care about you. And we are sure your figure is really nice. Apparently waist measurement has very much to do with heart health. Also, heart problems are the silent killer of women because we do not expect it and it is far less widely reported. So there is some measurement between hips and waist that is supposed to be important but I don't know what it is right now. But you are fabulous so don't worry about that crap right now because you are also way to young to give a rat's ass. :xoxox:
