Ive got a friend coming up from the Bay Area and I cant wait! he used to live in this area when he was 5 or 6 and is thinking about a weekend/retirement place up here, and the place NEXT DOOR is available (for sale!) I keep harping on him to hurry up and look into it, but he has financial loose ends to tie up first. At any rate, we will be taking drives around the area to get him reacquainted with this place, and I am just thrilled to death to have him up! Ive known him since I was 15 or 16 so that means we've known each other over 30 years! GAD!

hows bout youse guys? any plans?
before I go, I want to say that I am grateful to all our vets, past and present and future, who put themselves in harms way to secure our basic liberties and freedoms, and that I appreciate their sacrifices then and now. My Grandpa fought in WW2 and was in Pearl Harbor and those were some gnarly times....

Oh Lord, I've been drafted into entertaining 25 relatives on Monday. I even said that I didn't WANT to. That didn't seem to matter. I've got a pool, so that's why they all want to come here.
I started replacing my deck boards with the new "composite" deck board stuff, a week ago. I'm still not done! Not to mention cleaning the whole house, mowing, weed eating, cleaning the pool, prepping food. GRRRRR....
I literally have my next three days scripted out into 12+ hour shifts. It's more than one person should be expected to do. Thank gawd they're coming Monday instead of Sunday. There's NO way I'd be ready by Sunday... It will be fun, WHEN(if) I get done.
Back to the deck boards.....

My schedule at work was changed and I start that next week. That means I work tonight from 4-8, tomorrow from 9-5 and then have off until Thursday (because i'm now only working Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun). Perhaps a trip to the Jersey shore is in order. That is, of course, after everyone leaves come Monday  I will be sitting in that traffic on my way home from work tonight though -_-

Copied and pasted and edited (just a bit) from an email I just sent to Brucie - weatherman keeps saying we're supposed to get 2-5 inches of rain throughout the weekend. Right now, it's sunny and upper 80's:

I too am excited about the "long and winding road" weekend..I did go to Blockbuster, right after Target, and I got:

Alfie
The first 4 episodes of Fat Actress (can't believe it's out already!)
Closer (MORE Jude Law!)
Sideways

This crazy lady, who I was keeping pace with, going past all the new releases, kept commenting on **** - "THAT movie sucked, THAT movie was awful!" LOL When I picked up Sideways, she said it was stupid (I bet I love it).

I should visit the liquor store too, I drank up all my Merlot last nite for Stevie's birthday....

Weeeeeeelllllllllllllllllll - the weather will certainly have a lot to do w/ how I spend my weekend - I want my fun in the sun, but we DO need the rain to wash us clean, you know. I will probably hit Kohl's and Home Depot after work today. Kohl's is having a HUGE sale from 5-11 PM tonight and again tomorrow for the early birds. And Home Depot - I need to replace some of my hanging baskets around the pool, they're having a sale on those and these REALLY cool, solar powered light disc thingies that float on water - and change brilliant colors - like green and aquamarine and 'til the rainbow's end....$20/pair. I want them NOW!

I need to call Jimmy about putting me on the guest list for Sunday (Reckless Kelly). But if it rains, I ain't goin'!! There's a sassy show at the Cont. Club Saturday nite - the usual "last Saturday of the month" Toni Price and LeRoi Bros. gig, but they're gonna have this badass harmonica player sitting in w/ them. Apparently, he's played with everyone and they are expecting special musical guests! That might really be fun!! I never have a bad time at the Cont. Club!

Again, weather permitting, I may have a few friends over for swimming and BBQ-ing on Monday - BYO everything cuz I gotta save up for Stevie!

Well I don't have plans that differentiate this from any other weekend...

The only thing I have lined up is an outing to a goth bar called "vertex" Now I'm NOT goth - nor are any of my friends - but they have an open bar for like an hour - you pay $5 bucks to get in and it's all you can drink

I don't do it often - drink that is - so Saturday I will partake in a few - I figure at a bar - if I have even just two drinks the $5 cover will more than cover what I'd normally pay for drinks at bars :D

OTher than that? I'm going to hang out with my dog- take her to the park -and I plan on hitting the gym every day.

I have to work on MOnday :(

That woman can suck it. Sideways rawks. Both Alfie and Closer are good, too, but it's Jude Law, so that's a given. :p Fat Actress cracks me up, especially the ones with Blossom!

You enjoyed Closer???

I was bored to tears and for the life of me I couldn't find anything even remotely likeable about any of the characters. None of them were good enough to be likeable and none were bad enough to be likeable and the plot made me drowsy. But I suppose that if I found any of the actors attractive I might have gained some enjoyment. However, as previously stated, Jude Law bugs the **** out of me, Clive Owen (that's his name right?) is just gross, Julia Roberts' teeth irritate me and she's too damn thin, and the other chick was kinda hot but not enough to keep me interested.

The movie itself is utter garbage (Mike Nichols has been on quite the losing streak since Primary Colors), I've said this before, especially compared to the fabulous play. But there were many scenes that I found to be fabulous, especially the one with Owen and Portman in the lapdance room; it was fantastic. It was worth seeing, I thought, even though I despised it at first. I love Law and Portman, and I like Owen, but I can't stand Mr. Ed.

I feel really bad but my mom and I ordered Sideways last weekend. I fell asleep and so did she :( We didn't bother to turn it back on at any point either. I'll have to try watching it again when i'm not as tired I suppose.

It's been sunny and beautiful and humid as all get today. 82. There's a chance of rain tonight and then possible showers tomorrow. Right now, it just started to get cloudy but hopefully it holds off.

Still, it's nice to have an extra day off. The weather says am clouds, pm sun, highs of 65. I hope it's at least 70. Probably laze around, do chores. Maybe someone will visit me. :woohoo:

Well, since the weekend's already here... we spent today trying to figure out what the freak is wrong with our pool. The water is so cloudy and there's this huge clod of algae sitting in the bottom of the deep end (we think) that we can't see because the water's so cloudy. Our filter sprang a huge leak at the top of the tank so we had to replace the 16 year old filter and pump combo that should have died years ago with a brand new set -- 3/4 hp pump, and the one we had was only 1/2 -- HUGE difference! The thing's like a whirlpool now.

Tomorrow... trying to find a fitting for the backwash since backwashing it now turns the filter into a fire hydrant  as well as some shopping and going to the huge party/bbq/all day jam session at my boss's house with everybody from work -- I was personally invited to jam on keys with my boss so I think I'm kind of expected to show up at some point, so I might as well go and be sociable and eat and all that jazz.

Monday -- taking my car to the body shop for paint work -- something hit my door hard and it does not look pretty :distress: and I'm off work!

Tuesday -- headed to Baton Rouge to *finally* get my computer fixed! The hard drive crashed last week and it took me a week to find the only place in the state that works on Macs. Man, I need a road trip...

Everybody stay safe this weekend :wavey:

We left out Friday afternoon and went camping... just got back a little bit ago. I'm wore out. This is "Jason's weekend". His birthday would have been the 28th, and death date was the 29th, so Sara and I started the camping on Memorial Day weekend because he loved to camp and fish. We had a blast, although it was tough luck all weekend for me. I had a burning, melted marshmellow fall on my hand and now I'm all blistered up. I twisted my ankle something bad, too. I think I'm gonna have to go to the doctor tomorrow if it's not better in the morning... I slammed my head into the hatch door on the truck... I have to laugh at it all though!

It's hot but incredibly beautiful out. I spent the day outside washing our cars, taking a ridiculously huge grill from out front to our deck outback (thanks mom, you're a genius -_- ) and just hanging out outside. We have no plans for BBQing or anything of that nature. Oh, and my dog is apparently a Diva. I went and paid bills today (just dropped them through the slots since they weren't open), did some grocery shopping, and picked up a couple of Claude Chabrol movies (Merci Pour Le Chocolat and The Flower of Evil). It's hot and I'm tired, so I'll probably just watch them tonight and retire to bed.

Also went grocery shopping and to Home Depot to get some shelves for my closet. I got 2 and had one cut and came home and only the cut one fit. I don't know how but I screwed up the measurement. So I went back and had that one cut and got a third one. Now the closet from hell is nice and neat and I have a lot more storage for my stuff. Yippee!!!

I also shredded my papers, did dishes, and it seems like I did oh so much more, where did the day go?!? I gotta go eat and relax for a bit. :)

Um yup, she's a little diva! Mufy got a new toy today, one of those fishing pole type toys with feathers and a bell at the end. That's his favorite. He likes to growl over the feathers when he catches them. :D

Never shop at Home Depot, silly, they're big Republican contributors. Always go to Lowes. :p

You should do my closet. It is a MESS. Every piece of clothing is tucked into a dry cleaning bag and just stuck in there.

 I hate cleaning closets! This one was awful though, it just had everything in a big pile on the floor and a couple of things hanging from nails. It was so messy. It already had the thingies on either side for the shelves so I just had to stick them in there.

Oh sh*t, I forgot that about HD, it is just so close by. They only got $18 of my money.

Blah Blah Blah - so they are building an Aquariam here and creating thousands of jobs, their low cost building supplies has helped fues teh economic recovery because that recovery was built mostly on home building, etc., and they employee probably well over 100,000 people a fair share of whcih I suggest are not R's. But all that doesn't mean squat because the owners are R contributors - I mean come on. Better yet, let's take a look at Lowes and see if we cannot find something bad about them, whic of course we could. This kind of witch hunt drives me crazy. I mean I think everyone who particitpates in this kind of witchhut should in their own lives screen every client or customer they have and refuse all rev. from any R. period - lest they be hypocritical

I don't have to do anything of the sort. I don't know the policies or political affiliations of every company under the sun, nor do you. But I can choose to not give my patronage to companies that I do know about and don't approve of, i.e. IAMS (who abuse animals), Home Depot, and Wal Mart (who exploit not only their workers but also illegal immigrants). The fact that you are equating private citizens who make their own money and then donate it to the Republican party with a company that takes the money I give to them and then ships it off to the Republican party is ridiculous. I won't enable them, just as I won't enable Sinclair by watching their television station. Call it hypocritical all you want, I don't give a fiddler's fart, dear.

I just don't agree with their business practices and won't shop there because of it. Jason just loves to trumpet about how every big company does something that isn't right and he's correct in that respect. But I can choose not to give my money and support to the companies I know about and find to be reprehensible. Wal Mart can build all the houses they want for the poor, it doesn't erase what they're doing to them with their business practices.

It occurs to me that there were a bunch of steps skipped in that "helping the economy" synopsis of Home Depot, too. Stores like Wal Mart help to create the very kind of policies, economy, and economic distribution that forces people to shop at places like Wal Mart. And an all or nothing approach to doing what you can to help the world in the ways you can seems to me to be rather ludicrous, obviously, everyone can't do everything all the time, but everyone can do something much of the time, and it is important that they continue to do so, as vocally and as consistently as they feel they can.

It's all about keeping the poor impoverished in order to keep the rich as wealthy and affluent as possible. It's the cornerstone of American capitalism.

Well, of course I was speaking in general. But, clearly stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, etc., provided a boost to the building industry, which is mostly because of lower interest rates what has driven the current economic recovery. As for the all or nothing approach, I just hate hypocrisy.

Fair enough, I suppose. I believe that is a relatively small piece of the picture as far as discussing the economic impact of companies like that, but nevertheless worthy of note. As to the other - hypocrisy is bad, but this really is a situation of "you do what you can", I think. However, your point was taken.

Oh, and I have been cleaning, enjoying the kinda cold but still sunny days - Yesterday I went for a long bikeride for excercise, and discovered a tucked away playground with swings, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a playground, in the berkeley hills near campus. So I jumped out of the swings for awhile, and watched a guy practice his tennis serving, wishing I had my racket so I could practice returning a few. :p
Today I'm going earlier again to get a little more of the sun/heat. I also got a thick HP book, so I am doing some heavy reading. :D

I never made the comparison, Amber did. Not that I really disagree with her because it's essentially a form of legalized slavery.

Oh, me, I guess, you were calling. Well, I wasn't comparing in the sense that the people were actually slaves, I was saying, it's the new form of keeping labor and resource costs really, really, low, so that the owners of the labor and resources can make ginormous profits, and then disseminate those profits to the politicians who work to implement policies that keep this form of economy that lines the owners pockets thriving. :D ;) And people continue to work in such jobs and shop at such places because those same policies keep many, many, people generationally poor. Is that better? :wavey:
But, tosh, I must be on to my sunny bikeride with playing in the playground! :woohoo:

I've been at Myrtle Beach for the past few days. Tyler (my 11 year old step-son) and I drove down with my mother-in-law on Friday afternoon, then my husband drove down after work on Saturday afternoon. We had an excellent time. On Saturday, before my husband got down there, Tyler and I built sand castles and rode the waves. Apparently, he's never done that before; no one has ever let him go that deep into the ocean. We were karate chopping the waves and body slamming them too. We were laughing so hard because my boobs kept coming out of my bathing suit top. I had a string bikini on and that definitely was not conducive to what we were doing. It was killing me, because I really do have a major fear of sharks, so every now and then I'd get panicky, and say that we needed to go back to the beach. Tyler was having so much fun, though- so he would talk me into staying in the water.

On Sunday, I did nothing but sit on my ass on the beach, all day. My husband and Tyler left for a couple of hours to try some fishing at a nearby pier, and I stayed put. I am ridiculously tan and relaxed. HATING to go back to work tomorrow.
