I have been ridiculously sad lately. It seems everyone in my life is going through some major trauma right now. Family deaths, cancer scares, depression, loneliness. It makes it really hard to figure out what the point of it all is. I get easily overwhelmed by life. Anyone else? :distress:

Hang in there. I learned a long time ago, life is what you make it and it really does not get any better or worse - it just gets. So, to quote Tammy Faye Baker (  ) "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade!" I know that is ridiculously simple, but the deeper meaning is make the best of everything, even when you feel like your life is fading

I cried at Star Wars. :wavey:

I'm not a depressed or blue person, I just feel a lot of regret over things I haven't done and am bitter about certain things that I've wanted to do but haven't been able to. Such is life, I suppose.

Cheer up!

I love Dolly AND Tammy so much.

I prefer "when life hands you lemons, shoot yourself in the face." But that might be just me. Just kidding. I know. It's the same old "it can't be that bad" thing. But I come from a long line of depressive people. When it gets bad, I take it all on and it takes over my everything. I'll move past this. I always do. But how many damn times does the world have to fall apart? It seems to come in tremendous waves. There is so much distress around me right now. Too much.

All I can offer is my life experiences. I thought my life would turn out differently. It did not. Som I made the best of it. I truly try to see the bright side of everything and it is VERY hard to do and I sometimes fail. If you are really really depressed, you might want to see a professional. Sometimes having an objective ear that is trained to help you can do just that. ALso, if it is a situation you can control, like a bad friend, etc., you have the power over your life and you can walk away. Good Luck to you.

I get depressed every month like most women do. I cry for no reason and just get "down in the dumps". Then, it passes and I'm cool again. :) You will get through it, don't worry. I was an emotional wreck yesterday because of my dog and having to make the decision to put her down, but I was tons better today, having come to peace about it. Sure, it's still difficult and is going to be so next week, but she'll be free from pain and suffering. I love her, she loves me, and that's that.

We Ledgies are here if anyone needs to vent or whatever. :)

You are absorbing too much pain from others. Unplug, do something just for you that makes you feel good. Things are not all bad it only seems so, its a trick your mind plays on you when you are low.

What concerns me is that you say you come from a long line of depressive people. Depression is very steeped in biology so I would recommend that you do get help because it isn't normal and you don't have to live that way. My family is riddled with it and I've battled it with a lot of success and I'm happy today. If I didn't get help I'm not sure I'd be here. I'm also not sure my brother would be here since he just went through a severe episode which I helped him with. It broke my heart. But he is doing so well now. Anyway, if you would like, we can talk about this more offline.

I also want to point out that the world does extra suck right now, it isn't just you. But you can still feel good. :xoxo:

I have to agree about professional help. It was an idea I was at first opposed to but it proved to help me through my teen years, which were pretty awful, though it's all relative.

I also agree that if you are in a situation in which you're suffering for others as well as yourself, you really should take some time out to focus on yourself, doing something for you that is much deserved.

Things aren't all peachy with the world in general, as she said, so I've no doubt that's affecting all of us to some degree. You're definitely not alone and don't ever hesitate to vent to us here on The Ledge. I think that's part of the reason why we're all here together. :)

Thanks you guys. I think it is time for professional help for me. I've been a wreck since I was a teen. Battled suicidal thoughts (not so much in the capacity that I want to kill myself, but that I just no longer want to be), depression, loneliness, and a host of other things. But I think my biggest problem is that am a sponge for other people's pain. If someone is in pain, I can sense them from across the room and swallow all their pain and it absolutely knocks me on my ass. I really gotta do something about this because it's not really making my life work for me. I feel like I have a totally disfunctional life.

I just assumed that everyone else here suffered from severe depression. My mistake. I first decided I wanted to die when I was 5, I just didn't know how one went about dying. Being depressive for that long makes me feel elderly at 22, how the hell did I get this far? Probably by procrastination and blunt knives. Sorry for my lack of positivity, you can't expect much from people who hang around on message boards I'd say.
Lux, I'm kind of scared for you. Life is a gift... it is just crazy talk to want to kill yourself at age five (or twenty two for that matter). Things get me down but sooner or later you have to shake it off and bounce back because you only live once and there are so many beautiful things out there and so little time to enjoy them.

One other really nice feature about me is that I have what my friend has named an "airwall". When I meet someone new, I immediately build a nice little wall to keep them away. This works really well for me especially when it comes to dating. "Oh, what, you're interested in me? Hmmm... get me some bricks and cement, 'cause you ain't gettin' in!" Thanks GypsySorcerer. I will get through this. I just need to be reminded that there is beauty in the world. Hah! Right as I said that someone outside my window screamed "F*CK YOU!!!" really loud to someone. Yep, this is a beautiful world, isn't it?

I have been ridiculously sad lately. It seems everyone in my life is going through some major trauma right now. Family deaths, cancer scares, depression, loneliness. It makes it really hard to figure out what the point of it all is. I get easily overwhelmed by life. Anyone else? :distress:

The major trauma's ya listed have been my life for the last 2 years...This year has sucked worse than any since 1977 but I am still here and still not giving up, Just too lazy to give up actually (Besides, Someone has to collect all the upcoming Stevie Nicks solo shows  )

Just hang in there...If I can survive 2005 than everybody else in the world should be able to also

Once again, you have perfectly stated exactly how I feel about people. This is unnerving! When people seem to need me too much, I shut down.

I guess a little history is in order. I had a fantastic childhood - the things people dream of really. My parents are great people and I was very fortunate that they really took me all over the world with them. That may be why I am very comfortable in most settings. Around my 20's, I did musical theatre and some modelling. I loved the former and really did not care for the latter, though the latter lasted longer and paid a whole lot better than my illustrious acting career, which apparently I alone thought I was good at  In the middle of all of that, I got my law degree, which was really because my parents thought it was a good thing to get. I like practicing law, so its cool. But, I liked singing "there's a bright golden haze on the meadow" to a crowded house who adored me a whole helluva lot better  Then, I dated someone for a very long time. But, now we have sort of a LB - SN relationship, which is cool because we had, to paraphrase Stevie, barriers of time and other forms really prohibit us from being together. Depressing as it can be - Such is life - but in that - I guess really those (few have done all of that)- lifetimes, I learned about walls and how to make people want me. But, now that I do not have the guise of youth and my 195 pound body (though I am working back to it) - I have to rely more on me, which is cool, but harder. So, I guess what I am trying to say is, you are not alone in what you are going through and sometimes life just does not work out the way we want it to.

I hope that did not sound to "me me me - its all about me"

Notwithstanding you other "issues," don't you think everyone builds walls. I mean we all have out secrets. We all like our privacy. We all like a little mystery. Do you build huge walls all of the time?

In edit - that was meant in a curious way with no derision - I think you prob. knew that but on a re read I thought it could come off as that

Oh, I know you're just curious. :) I guess most people build emotional walls around them... I tend to do it when a relationship or dating type situation feels like it could get serious... I don't know if that's normal.

I wouldn't think depression and trauma can be graded. Sorry, I realise it's just a gesture but all the same, I disagree.
That's probably true. For instance, nothing like what's happened to Brian has ever happened to me, yet for days, I have been sobbing, and thinking how neat it would be not to be here. or anywhere. In fact, nothing super traumatic has ever happened to me, really. Except for existing. But there you have it. So, basically, I agree. :wavey:

Oh my God, guys. You're all scaring the crap out of me.

Every single one of you has sort of become a person in my mind. Most of you, I only know as a screen name, same as you know me. And the only reason we're all here is because we share a common passion. But I think every one of us would say that we care to some degree, some more, some less, about the other people who come here. And right now, I'm really worried about what I'm reading. I'm not going to preach or get all airy fairy, but there IS a lot to enjoy and love and savour about life. If you can't see that right now, please consider getting some help. Talk to someone who can help you. There is no need to be sad and depressed. You all bring something to this board - and to the world - and it would be a sadder place without a single one of you.

Okay - now I AM getting overly emotional, so I'll stop. But please, guys, talk to somebody...

There's a major for sculpture? I think you made the right choice with graphic design!

It is a really hard decision though. I want to have some sort of plan before I have to apply for colleges in August. College seems almost mandatory these days if you want to live a certain type of lifestyle.

Follow your bliss. And it sounds like you have a good head so you'll keep your head above water. You'll be broke for a while then the rewards will come. I just got Suze Orman's latest book in March which is really inspiring, even though it's supposed to be a finance book. You may want to check it out, the money book for the young, fabulous, and broke. She mentions young people should just focus on what makes them happy, then get into it, and work to make yourself indespensible. Good luck in your endeavors!

Um... did you just crawl into my head and read my mind? EXACTLY!!! I pine away for boys from afar and in a sick way like having them far away from me so I can idealize them and turn them into something they can never be. It's the Angela Chase in me (My So-Called Life - best show evahhhh!) There was a brilliant line from My So-Called Life that went something like "I feel like I will die if I don't have the crush. Like I will starve to death. If the crush actually turns into something, then it's like it's not yours anymore." I am totally paraphrasing. When a crush turns into something... like a restraining order, for example! ... then I want nothing to do with the boy. But that like never happens because I am way to f*cked up to date anyone. Damn these all protecting airwalls!I really know what you mean. Sometimes I have to hold onto my fantasies about girls/women because if they came out in the open, then I'd have to find out what always seems to be the awful truth--the person is straight. And sometimes it's worse than that--the person doesn't like gay people. So, I just live inside a fantasy world for awhile. I've certainly done that plenty of times.

But please, guys, talk to somebody...That was a really sweet post, Cat. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets all perklempt about the people on this board. The ones I've gotten to know are much more than screennames to me, too, and I certainly care about them. I'm glad that you feel the same way, and I'm glad that you've become more than a screenname and that I'm getting to know you, too. :wavey:

And by the way, Amber, how could eat the fattening food without me? I'm like Krista because that is just not okay with me. I go to bed and you start doing that. Well, I'm making up for it with some fattening food this morning. :D

Have you seen the film When Night is Falling. It is one of my all time favorites. I think you might relate to it. You should track it down. :nod:No, I don't think I've ever heard of it. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

Huh? Jason's gay? What? Seriously, hasn't he talked about dating women many times? I thought he at least primarily dated women. Wow, I wound up being so confused! When did this become the confusion thread?

I don't know. I came in a straight male and left as a Lesbian Poodle.

That would be so cool! And someone I could play my Fleetwood Mac in front of and the person wouldn't be annoyed by that! :woohoo: (I alway think about that. ) And you have stethoscopes, too, right? Or one, at least? We could have fun with that. Ah, now you're tempting me.

We would have so much fun! :woohoo:

no, not all european women are hairy. that's just a fable. we do know what a razor looks like.

I'm sorry, I'm an idiot. Wishful thinking. It's just when you said "you rang" to Amber's call for straight boys I thought maybe I'd been wrong in thinking you were a woman. Doh!

It is  I guess I just had different expectations!
And.. I'd seen a couple of girl-girl lovestories at that point, and they were all more or less the same: one out-girl falls for another who's not yet out of the closet, she comes out and falls in love with girl #1, has argument with parents, they fight for acceptance, the end. Example: The Incredible Story Of Two Girls In Love. That's a cute movie, anyway.

Jason has never said anything definitive one way or another on this subject. Therefore I can still hold out hope that he is bi, since I've assumed he's gay because no straight man says "lord child" that often (or ever). I <3 strand! :xoxo:

No, I don't think I've ever heard of it. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

It's a Canadian film. All Canadian films are about repressed homosexuality! It's beautifully filmed and the two actresses in it are absolutely gorgeous in a non-traditional sense. The music is incredible too. I bought the soundtrack and I own it on DVD. If you have an indie video store around you, you should see if they have it. It's beautiful. :xoxo:
