I've been listening to TOSOTM a lot more lately & I'm really into Juliet. I think it would be great live. So I'm browsing Nicksfix & it says that Juliet WAS done (along with Talk To Me) summer of 89 in Canada.
I know an audio boot for Toronto '89 exists, but I don't have it. Is it on video? Are there any other shows from Canada circulating?
Brian J.- you have the setlist for Toronto listed as the same as the other '89 shows - is there a difference in the setlists? I must know! :D
EDIT: I notice that Juliet was apparently done at Greatwoods & Jones Beach summer of 89 according to Brian's list.Must add to request list!

I have a video labeled "Canadian National Expo; Toronto, Ontario, Canada 8/17/89" that has Juliet and Talk To Me. It is a Stevie boot, though, so the quality obviously sucks. The video is not in focus, despite being rather close, so it's kind of unwatchable. I have another video from another Canadian Mirror show, I believe, but I don't know where it is at the moment.

The only drawback is that 95% of the Mirror tour boots are putrid quality. Even the San Jose audio boot has that annoying high-pitched hum in the background that drives me positively batty.

version of the Oct.20,1989 show I have has the high pitched sound reduced (It is only obvious now during the between song chats), Since it came from a better source recording than the copy that is currently floating round....The best TOSOTM tour recording IMHO.

I remember seeing 'Juliet' at Stevies '89 stop at the Jones Beach Theater for TOSOTM tour. She wore a plain silky black robe, the shoulder pads were less poofy than the rest of the costumes she wore that night and her stage dance seemed to consist of her arms straight out on either side with hands pointed making little cocentric circles, sort of like jazzercize. Except for the 'sky is crying' part, at which point she'd point to the heavens! It wasn't terrible, it was something different anyway although not really her strongest voice that night. A better performance that night I thought was 'Alice'.

Juliet is one of the 3 songs I wish were not on this album. I just can't get into it at all but good luck finding it. I've told this story before but I'll say it again. Alice was also another song I did not like until I heard bootlegs from TOSOTM tour and I fell in love. The keyboard intro at the beginning is so beautiful and when she calls out "Aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!". Does anybody know the part I'm referring to? Now I love that song :)

Paula PM me if you are interested in getting any with Juliet and Talk to Me. Jones Beach 8-25-89 in my opinion has great quality and both songs are on it. I have many shows from this tour. Also, getting in some dvds with these songs on it, so if anyone is interested please PM me.
I have a great fasination in this tour ad you can probably tell from my username

Pete, which stop was this? I know she played there 2 times on that tour. But from the boot I have from 8-25-89, id say she was very strong vocally.

Um, I was referring to the first of her two stops. And as for me not thinking she was particularly strong vocally, I guess I was comparing her to her last solo stop there in 1986 during the RAL tour when she tore the roof off of the place (well, not really, it's an outdoor ampitheatre but you know what I mean  ).
TOSOTM tour was a big shock for me. The platform Reeblechs, the satin robes with the huge shoulder pads, the weird hats, ribbons instead of real flowers on the mic stand, some unfamiliar players in her band, the weight gain, the seeming 'distance' Stevie seemed to have (well, now we know why)- I left the theater in a weird funk.

I saw this tour, I'm quite sure, in Ottawa. I remember Talk to Me, and I SO remember Whole Lotta Trouble - becausde she messed up the words, and I was at her feet, and got them right - and she heard me and laughed and said "you got them right!"
Ah, memories...
I don't remember if she did Juliet... :sorry:

"Juliet" was in the setlist until around mid-September, I think. The last boot I've been able to find it on was the September 12, 1989 Cleveland, Ohio show. She may have performed it at a few shows after that. It doesn't show up on the September 30, 1989 Miami, Florida boot though so I'd assume it had been dropped by then.

Do you mean she was wearing her platform Reeboks back in 89? I thought those came out with the SYW tour?

I really like the song Juliet, especially Bruce Hornsby's piano part. I'm glad I got to see her perform it in Mansfield, MA aka Great Woods (now a defunct name). As I can recall, the song came off pretty well, and there was a nice percussion solo at some point.
Although Stevie was in a haze for most of that period, I was impressed that she had the confidence to play five new songs. "Long Way To Go" should have been one of them.

yep - that would be a fierce song done live.

Do you mean she was wearing her platform Reeboks back in 89? I thought those came out with the SYW tour?Neither, actually. She wore them for a minority of dates in 1989 because she broke her foot or something, & substituted some specially designed sports shoes. But after her foot healed, she was back in her Di Fabrizio boots for the remainder of the tour, & she stayed in her boots for the Fleetwood Mac 1990 tour, her 1994 solo tour, Fleetwood's 1997 tour, & her 1998 solo tour.
She started wearing her Reeblechs (which were similar to the orthopedic sports shoes she had to wear in 1989) for the majority of the time on her short Millennium Tour in late 1999/early 2000. She also wore them throughout her entire Shangri-La Tour in 2001, & at just about all the one-up shows she did for private parties & corporations & benefits after that.
She's been in them virtually ever since, & will probably be carried out in them.

You're right David, they were a little different then the Reeblechs. But just as blechy, she had two pair that night too, one tan and one black. Same orthopedic concept though, a big thick rubber sole running the entire length of her foot with no 'heal' to speak of giving her a 'Fred Gwynne' Herman Munster type appearance. At the second Jones Beach stop of the '89 tour, I think she zipped on the real platforms for HAEWAFY but I might be mistaken. If indeed we are doomed to Reeblechs forever, I am very sad to hear this.

I don't care if she comes out in big fluffy pink bunny slippers or Reeblechs or whatever. I am thrilled she is still touring at all and happy to see her no matter what :)

I guess I obsess over details. I like the whole Stevie package of yesteryear. Alot of people are like me though, and really prefer the platforms over the Reeblechs. I'm not the only one.

Well of course I prefer platforms over Reeblechs I was just making the point that it's not all that important to me but I understand it is to a lot of people.

I'm glad you understand. Since we're on the subject of 'Juliet', did you ever hear the freaky, outrageous demo of 'Juliet'? It's just simple guitar and drums- oh man!!! What vintage Tango-era vocals she lays on it! Chock full of "welllllls", in fact, you'll just about lose count of how many times she bleats out the word 'well'. If you dig her vocal style on 'Seven Wonders' you'll be ALL over this gem! The version she recorded for TOSOTM sure was cleaned up and sprinked with fairy dust and synths, hard to believe the song had such raunchy origins!

It's like walking down the aisle on your wedding day in a $20,000 gown and a baseball cap from WalMart on your damn head. I swear somewhere there's a custom shoemaker who can help her . . .

I must have it somewhere - I'll have to find it & give it another listen. I lose track of all the different demos/versions/takes of everything!
And Seattlemark - you are so right.

The only other Candian show on this tour was in Ottawa ( My Hometown). It was at the CCNE otherwise known as Super Ex. I was only 8 at the time so unfortunately I didn't evene know she existed. If anyone has a half decent copy of this show on either Video or Cd I would love a copy.

Amen! Like wearing a Vera Wang with a pair of Timberlands. The whole line and curve of the outfit is destroyed. Surely the Maya Custom Shoe Salon could do a consultation like they used to. Maybe she lost their address...

As I said before I'm not a fan of the album version of Juliet but since you've given the demo rave reviews I will definitely go back and listen to it. I have it and I've listened to it before but not for a long time. I'll check it out tonight and by the way how did you know I dig her vocal style on Seven Wonders ;) My favorite Stevie vocals are 85-87 RAL, Tango so I'm sure I'll love it! I especially love the vocals on "When I See You Again" (when she says "what's the matter baby" real low and raspy OMG!!). I could just about die when I hear her voice on that song. It's so distinct and she has never sounded like that since then. If only I could have heard that voice live!

The demo of Juliet is painful. That's not singing, that's high-pitched mumbling and warbling.

If it's a question of comfort, there's got to be a better solution. I'm not a 57 year old woman who wore uncomfortable boots all her life, but if I were her I'd send that bitch Karen out to find something that works.

I'm very new to The Ledge, so I'm interested in hearing who doesn't like Karen and why. The first time I met Stevie Karen wasn't around but the 2nd time she was NOT nice to me. Karen was there and was VERY annoyed that Stevie was even spending time talking to me. Stevie made me feel oh so very welcome but Karen made it very clear she didn't want us at the party. Very, very bad vibe from her towards fans on 2 other occasions as well.
