View Full Version : My Opinion on this Vegas Arguement

Now I am kinda new here and I know this has been beat to death but here is my take on the Vegas shows,if anyone cares.

Back when this was first announced Stevie made a few statements about how the show was going to be,we all know what she said.
So the shows have came and went and there are mixed reactions.
The set was not much different.
She didn't take the mic out.(big deal)
The Shirts sucked.(agreed)
These are some of the arguements going on here.
Oh and some critic wasn't totally blown away as if we care.
On the plane ride over myself and some of the "real" fans were discussing how we think the show will go.
We all came to the conclusion that there would be a few surprises but not the entire set rearranged, which is what happened.
Guess what,we all loved the show and all had a great time.
There seem to be some people here that have a HUGE problem with the set list.Get over it.It's her show and she is gonna do what she wants.
So it wasn't to much different. She looked and sounded great. What do want to do? Have her shot?
It is a womans perogative to change her mind right?
I don't know many people here but it seems that all the negativity is coming from people who are not the real fans just trouble makers who have nothing better to do than come on a message board and steam others up.
That's all I got to say about that,and whoever doesn't like it,tough ****.

No I won't delete this...

It is a wonderful thing to share opinions, but there are ways to do it. Some people just seem to want to share their feelings as rashly as they know how to push buttons.

Whatever, I just don't want the personal attacks to keep happening that is all.

It's just puzzling to me that people that are fans would come on here and raise such a **** storm.

I was one of the idiots here Tuesday night at 12 o clock at night when i had to be in school the next morning. Was I disappointed? yes. Was I completeley let down? no. After hearing If Anyone Falls I feel that this made the show for me and I am quite happy with it. Yes beauty and the beast was great, but i like IAF more.

Overall, I thought these were great shows and im happy to see a favorite of mine be performed :)

The difference of opinion between High Priestess and the other ledgies was not the reason the thread was closed. It would be nice if we all loved Stevie no matter what, but we all have different opinions which are welcome.

The problem came with personal attacks. We really don't want anyone personally attacking anyone else. These boards should be a place we feel "safe" and no one should be singled out and "attacked".

Also, when threads are started just to start trouble, it's best to close them and forget it before anything really verbal starts. There is arguing and there are unecessary verbal attacks and fighting.

Threads are closed very rarely and we try always to keep them open...

Hopefully it won't happen again for a very long time!:)

Just to reiterate... slandering and defaming other Ledgies will NOT be tolerated. Neither will personal feuds.

As always, those who don't want to follow our rules and guidelines are free to leave. But if you stay and continue causing trouble, it'll no longer be your choice to leave.

Hi Kato! How are you? We will look for you in Philly...where are you sitting? Riss and I have second row..but hopefully we will be standing.
I totally agree with everything you have said. I felt sorry for Stevie yesterday reading what some of her "fans" had to say about her. This stuff filters back to her eventually, perhaps that was the intent..to inform Stevie she was a miserable disappointment? I loved the show and do not need stupid boas or video clips to make me happy. She did not give me crumbs....she gave me joy.

I have had much support on this subject here and on other sites that many felt letdown. We are simply pointing out her inacuracies in what she claimed to be presenting.I thought we were seeing something new..exciting and never seen before as she claimed in several Pre Show Interviews..so yes many who took of work..paid hundreds of dollars and traveled far to see this REHASH are not pleased. We have the right as fans to express our opinions. We do not all have to agree that she was wonderful in this particular Venue! I have received so much mail of support too..from fans that were there!

Yes, a lot of people do have that opinion. But to call it a "REHASH" is overstating things. There was footage behind Stevie which we've never seen before, she did use a couple of new and some old clothing on stage, she did pull out some old songs (3) that she hasn't done in a long time, that I have never seen live. You are exaggerating your case. Did the show live up to the hype in the Jim Ladd interview? No. I think everyone agrees with you on that. Is Stevie a "liar"? I don't think so! As someone else stated, she's a bit flaky (I mean that in a loving way :) ) and she can get excited and get ahead of herself, in a kind of child like way. Her dream of the show and the reality of what she could accomplish just didn't match up. However, I had one of the best times in my life going to those 2 shows. She was on fire and performed better than I've ever seen her perform. That's all that matters to me.

Everyone has the right to their opinions, and yes, several people were disappointed by Vegas (I was not one of them, but I understand that some would be. I was also "a person who was THERE", btw.) If you look back, there were a few threads discussing that disappointment already, we really didn't need another one. There are far too many duplicate threads here (right Diss? ;) )

It's one thing to state your opinion in an intelligent, thought-out, well written manner. It's quite another to scream at people through every single post (you do know that typing IN ALL CAPS is considered poor netiquette since it implies that you are screaming the words you type, don't you?) and disregard others' opinions completely. You have been ranting about "freedom of speech" but you don't want to hear it if someone has a difference of opinion?

Also - yes, Amber & Jill were offended by your screaming posts and they may have responded in a way that you perceived as inappropriate, but claiming that a person neglects their children or is an "ignorant slut" is way over the line. Flipping the bird is one thing - slandering a person's reputation is quite another.

I don't know why you became so enraged that people were offended by what they perceived as your rude & agressive posts - what did you expect? I don't really care if you didn't like the show - you have the right to your opinions. What I don't appreciate is you name-calling & putting people down for having a different opinion than you.

If you had written a post such as what you just wrote above, maybe it wouldn't have gotten out of hand. You did NOT merely say "I love Stevie, but I felt let down by the show."

You did, however, yell about how Stevie "promised" us something and how "we deserved better." I don't recall Stevie promising anything - and I also read/heard the interviews, as you did.) And the "I always tell the truth" and "I just want to set the record straight?" Those are your opinions, feelings, thoughts. NOT fact, NOT truth. Nobody here said that their positive review was "the truth" - they just wanted to express how they felt about the shows.

And since this is a free country & we are all allowed to express our opinions (sound familiar?), then you must understand that that goes for everyone, whether you agree with them or not. A person is not lying, or trying to cover up the truth, or sugar-coating anything just because they had a great time & thought it was a great show & told us about it here - that's their opinion. I've read all reviews - good and bad. I like to read what others think, whether I agree with them or not  .

I don't want to argue with people (you included, High Priestess.) I come here to chat, have fun, express my opinions, get info about Stevie & Mac. I have enough stress in my life without worrying about this place  .

Is Stevie a "liar"? I don't think so! As someone else stated, she's a bit flaky (I mean that in a loving way :) ) and she can get excited and get ahead of herself, in a kind of child like way. Her dream of the show and the reality of what she could accomplish just didn't match up.

...and she never promised specific things like, "I'm definitely gonna do this song, and I'm definitely going to put this footage up on the screen, etc.." From the Ladd interview, I got the general impression that she was going to do songs that she hadn't done in a while, which she did. I think if anyone was under the false impression that she was gonna sing songs she's never sung before live, then that's a bit of one's own delusion. I mean, do you really think that's gonna happen for the Vegas crowd?? And Stevie's inclination to play it safe with her setlists is another clue that that wasn't gonna happen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Ladd interview she was just throwing out suggestions of what she might sing not necessarily what she was definitely singing. From the pictures, her outfits were GORGEOUS!! What more could you ask for there? And the footage, well, she did mention some things she wanted to show, but she never promised anything 100%. I guess you just have to know that with Stevie, nothing's ever certain but what is certain is that she's going to play it safe doing things and singing songs that she feels comfortable with. I don't know...I just think everyone was expecting too much, Stevie's never gonna go out on a limb, I think we should all just get used to that. Just $.02 from someone who wished she could've gone .

It is hard not to respond to childish nonesense and baiting. You know, that's true. That's why people like Amber and Jill responded to your posts.

I have no problems with your opinion of the show. None whatsoever. It just baffles me how you don't see how you've baited and yelled at people with all-caps and such and that caused a "****storm," as kato said. Also, your insistence that we're all bootlegging scumbags was so disturbing to a poster in another thread that the poster is now loath to post on The Ledge.

This all really boils down quite simply. Some were disappointed in the show, sounds like the majority thought it was great. Some had the time of their lives. I think the setlist was crap, others are just fine with it. I will never know why Stevie wastes her encore with the Petty song, others think it "rocks".

I get the sense that some people are furious that not everyone sees it their way, either positive of negative. And that's what is leading to these really dumb flame wars.

However, no one denies that Stevie looked and sounded great. If I were Stevie, that's what I'd want to know from my fans. She knows she can't please everyone with her setlist, but if they can all go away saying that she looked and sounded great...sounds like a great success to me.

You can love someone -- but not love everything they do or the choices they make.

There is nothing wrong with having a critical analysis among fans.

Accusing us of "****ting all over her" is inflammatory and misguided.

Fans are hyper-informed to all aspects of her career. As such, our frustrations arise from our expections.

I have enough stress in my life without worrying about this place  .

...and she never promised specific things like, "I'm definitely gonna do this song, and I'm definitely going to put this footage up on the screen, etc.." From the Ladd interview, I got the general impression that she was going to do songs that she hadn't done in a while, which she did.
That is exactly the point..You were not there!

High Priestess
05-20-2005, 04:15 PM
You know, that's true. That's why people like Amber and Jill responded to your posts.

I have no problems with your opinion of the show. None whatsoever. It just baffles me how you don't see how you've baited and yelled at people with all-caps and such and that caused a "****storm," as kato said. Also, your insistence that we're all bootlegging scumbags was so disturbing to a poster in another thread that the poster is now loath to post on The Ledge.
Stevie's disgust with bootleggers is well documented..how anyone can perpetuate theft and feel good about themselves is beyond me..must not be "true fans"

High Priestess
05-20-2005, 04:17 PM

Then she should not do Pre Show Interviews..then there are no expectations.

There is nothing wrong with having a critical analysis among fans.

My 2 cents:

I consider myself a huge fan, but this was my first time seeing her solo. So the setlist was great because I had never, ever heard songs like "Edge of 17" and "Stop Dragin My Heart Around" live, but I still got to hear some rare gems like "Beauty and the Beast" and "If Anyone Falls In Love". And as far as energy and vocal performance go, we couldn't ask for more. And I think a good performer is the meat and potatos of a concert. Even if it was the best setlist in the world, a circa 1990 Stevie wouldn't put on a great show. The Stevie of today put on a great show.

Does it make a difference in the long run to anyone but me? It doesn't make them not stolen if I refuse to download them because she made those comments. If that unlawful act made many, many people appreciate and admire her even more than they already did, I can't see how it's harmful.

It kind of befuddles my dumb cracker mind ("Mystery Science Theater 3000" reference there) that we're talking about issues of morality when you tactlessly and tastelessly hit Jill where it hurts. Not to mention what you said about Amber.

She shouldn't speak, because expressing a desire becomes immediately a statement set in stone. She shouldn't perform in Vegas because it's so cheap... but wait, no, it can be a fun city, the theatre has a great acoustic, so okay. And she must be glamourous, but hey, no more that 50 hats, 35boas and 20 dress changes, it doesn't have to be excessive. And come on, risk Stevie risk, with the setlist, but remember all the guys who fell in love listening to Dreams and want rock'n roll with a touch of country and a hint of blues. And why the heck isn't she working on her solo album? She promised! No, she prefers to tour and not alone  well, she can do it, but what is she thinking?

Please speak for yourself! Not everone loved this show and had a great time!

I saw Episode III yesterday and I enjoyed it. I don't know if that was because the acting was actually better, or just because there was so little of it. It was mostly fight scenes. I think Sumuel L. Jackson is a good actor, but he just never seemed to fit into the Star Wars universe to me. He always seemed out of place. My favorite actors in this one are Yoda, and R2D2! Especially since I haven't seen so many movies. if I were you, though, I would give all the love I....oh, wait, no...I would want to see it, cause you've probably already seen most other movies that are out...

Nah, there aren't many good flicks out right now. Just The Interpreter and Monster-In-Law, but I've seen both of them. The good and cheesy ones are coming this summer. Manderlay (set a release date already!), Batman Begins, Bewitched, Haute Tension, Willy Wonka, etc. Those are the ones on my list.

That's right, a fellow Spielberg despiser. Although I'll give him the credit for not being the absolute worst, I mean I wouldn't know their names (the shuddering rendering me unable to read the credits) but I've witnessed trash that is beyond the horrors of a Spielberg film. Actually, I would put Lucas below Spielberg.

Spielberg is so ridiculously incompetent that it's kind of funny in a perverse way. He's just...bad. Lucas is equally bad, too, but Star Wars is entertaining, so I give him a slight break. He's a hack and I think he knows it, whereas Spielberg considers himself to be the God of Cinema.

That's totally logical and I understand it completely, but I have this personal deal. In my real life, I tend to let people walk all over me, so I've sort of made this decision that I'm rarely going to keep my mouth shut on the internet when I have a problem with the way someone's treating me or others. I could never watch a Star Wars movie for the acting.

George Lucas has to be the worst director of actors in the world. I mean, it's scary. But Episode III is supposed to have some good acting (I never understood why everyone said Christensen was so bad in Episode II, I thought Samuel L. Jackson and Natalie Portman were the ones who stunk up the screen in that one) and have a much diferent tone than the others, so it should be interesting.

Luckily there's Ian McDarmid, even in Star Wars there must be at least a real actor.

Do you think Schindler's List was bad?

As bad as Shoah (which I could NEVER finish when it was shown in college and I wouldn't finish it for ten million bucks) and that says a helluva lot. There were some scenes that were truly heartbreaking, but as a film, it was wretched. I know it's some sort of taboo to call any film on the Holocaust "wretched," but oh well. From the black and white to the manipulation on the audience at the end to the Oscar bait feel to all of the proceedings, it does nothing for me.

I have no idea what's out at the moment. All I know is that I'm going to see the German film Downfall on Monday and that will be the first time I've ventured into a cinema in quite a while (for a reason other than escaping the Australian summer).

It's a good movie, conventional but good. Bruno Ganz is spectacular and also the two leading actresses, Alexandra Maria Lara (The secretary) and Juliane Köhler (Eva Braun).

Shoah is utter ****. Bless the soul of the individual that can watch it, because I certainly can't. It's simply bad filmmaking.

I like Empire of the Sun simply for Christian Bale, I like AI because his incompetence magically made a somewhat decent movie (albeit unintentionally), and I like parts of The Color Purple, even though he gave it a white man's touch that is entirely inexcusable and offensive.

That's a good point. Not only does Spielberg but a certain sector of film-goers. I don't think Lucas nor his audience are claiming brilliance. I think the fans realise this and atleast the first three (released) were entertaining despite his incompetence. Spielberg on the other hand draws attention to himself as the director, which many others pull off with their brilliance however if you've got nothing to show, it's better to disguise your directing within the film.

I think Spielberg can be a wonderful director when he wants; even if sometimes he's manipulative, distracted by the message he wants the people to get, full part of a corporate way of thinking cinema, but great. He always runs for the balance between art and industry, not a sin, but boring though.

That taboo grates at my nerves so much. Any idiot can make a film about a touchy subject, doesn't mean the film is any good and you should be able to call it trash if you felt it was. I remember watching Saving Private Ryan in school and being the only one who said I didn't like it and suddenly disliking a film became a reason to accuse me of disrespecting dead people. Bleh, what a load of crap.

As for Spielberg himself, someone ought to tell him that shots of people looking does not constitute a decent film. The only thing I like about him was his ability to have Ralph Fiennes in one of his films.

Just look at Pauline Kael and her review of Shoah wherein she savaged it. Her editor didn't even want to print it and when he finally did, she was called everything from a Nazi to an anti-semite. All because she said it was a **** film. Which it is.

Yes, but it was badly presented. And that's an understatement. Just because it has substantial content, it doesn't make the movie itself any more substantial if the presentation is lousy and one gets the overwhelming feeling that the filmmaker should find another job.

This is true Even though i was upset a little about the show I deep down think she is kind of hilarious that she tells white lies to get out of a uncomfortable situation She is so funny in alot of these interviews in how she pulls dates and numbers out of her ass ! she remembers every encounter and detail and tells the interview what they want to hear so she doesnt have to deal with pressure I love this about her but i think she deserves more for her and her show ! one of my all time favorite interviews is when she is telling vh1 how many time the redid the demos to bombay sapphires i think 10x she said until she was finally happy with it lol hilarious

At this point though, I get the feeling that people aren't really upset about anything that's being said... but, rather, are enjoying the entertainment value of it all themselves. :nod:Yeah, I was upset about the comment about Jill at first but I then realized there was no reason to take any of this very seriously. There's some definite entertainment value here.

THIS IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:

I was in Las Vegas for the Opening of "Dreams" at Ceasars Palace. I was so thrilled as I am a Vegas Native traveling from Los Angeles back to my home town to support Stevie.I was excited after hearing the Jim Ladd Interview that she was going all out in this Venue to create an evening never seen before. In the Interview she spoke of "pulling out old songs never or rarely performed live"..maybe Storms..maybe Sisters Of The Moon..maybe Highwayman..old Video Clips playing behind her...vintage costumes from past tours..and major production..taking full advantage of the huge IMAX Screens used currently by Celine & Elton. There were also several Interviews Stevie gave to local radio stations saying that "Talk To Me is my favorite Video and I intend to open the show with it."
Unfortunately none of the above occured.
Stevie was wonderful as always! She was in good voice despite dodging many high notes.
The set was brief..and there were really no surprises for anyone who follows her solo set lists.
The Highlights were If Anyone Falls..were she used a brief ballet clip from the video and her Finale of Beauty & The Beast..(her best performance of the evening). She had a cool opening clip from I Can't Wait Video..(breaking through the wall). Other than that 90% of the show
was her usual set list. She was only shown once on the large screen towards the end..which I found odd..I would have preferred to see her than the psycadelic projections behind her through most of the show. She did not spin at all..not even on Stand Back..not one. No Boots. And she never even mentioned anything about being in Las Vegas. There were no new or old costumes. Only black. Lori looked and sounded amazing as did the whole band!!! It was great to see Waddy Wachtel up there again! I have seen every Stevie solo & FM show..I love, admire and respect her tremendously and always will. It seemed thrown together very fast. What was promised and what was delivered were two different things.

A Legit Review From Critic Who Was There!

LAS VEGAS SUN

For me, however, Friday's concert felt a bit lacking, failing to live up to the potential of matching a first-rate performer with an exceptional venue.

In pre-show interviews, Nicks promised to deliver a visually spectacular set, taking advantage of the massive Colosseum stage and giant LED screen.

Instead, she and her band grouped near the middle of the stage in a relatively bare arrangement and used a scaled-back video screen -- in the shape of a half-circle -- with mixed results.

And here's your second post:

THE POINT IS OBVIOUS ....Stevie did not fair well in Vegas..despite much PROPAGANDA
that she did!!! I agree with The Las Vegas Sun Critic..AS I WAS THERE! Stevie promised a show that she simply could not deliver! It was a total REHASH! NOTHING NEW..NO RISKS!!! I also paid hundreds of dollars and traveled far to see it! BEAUTY & THE BEAST..BIG DEAL..SHE THREW US A CRUMB..WE DESERVED A FEAST!!!

Johnny Stew...I agree with Lux, how and why is this person not banned yet? Certainly she has racked up three strikes with the amount of personal insults she has been hurling. That is not even including the baiting etc. Lux has two strikes and I do not recall her ever calling anyone a slut, a hoe, a child neglecter, yada yada.
The saddest thing HP has posted is that Stevie could actually learn something from her hurtful, meaningless meanderings. Imagine that? She thinks she has offered Stevie constructive criticism. She feels it is morally wrong to hurt Stevie by listening to her demos..even when Stevie said she was ok with us knowing Sorcerer from years ago! Y So, we have compassion for the demos, but no compassion or empathy for Stevie regarding the Vegas shows whatsoever. Hypocritical much?

How is it that they're not banned? Maybe it's simply because it's the middle of the night over there. I know from the two strikes I'm sitting on that it only takes someone making a legitimate complaint for a strike. Surely they're all up? I feel like giving them some change, like with others who wander in circles talking to themself.

Bwahahaha. My thoughts exactly.

I gotta say, I'm taking no offense from any of the hurlin'. I mean, look, I just got THREE responses to my one little post. I'm feeling quite proud. Actually, I either read an article, or saw an interview with him where he said that he called and begged to be in the movie, and that they wrote the character in for him. I guess he had loved the previous films and wanted to be part of it.

I had no idea, so probably he was only too happy to be in it to remember he was supposed to portray someone. Oh well, he remains a great actor.

I went to Friday & Saturday's LV shows. After hearing about SOME peoples dismay (maybe just HP's, I'm not sure at this point) after Tuesday's show, I went with fairly low expectations. I walked away from those two shows (Saturday's especially) remembering why I fell in love with Stevie Nicks in the first place.

On with the Star Wars discussion! :D
