a mix CD of fave Fleetwood Mac songs? It's really hard to do! There's too much to choose from and there are so many songs that I've yet to hear. But I made one a few months ago with this tracklisting-

1) Angel
2) Forever
3) Never Going Back Again
4) That's Alright
5) Sunny Side of Heaven
6) Gypsy
7) Talkin' To My Heart
8) Sara
9) Hold Me
10) Child of Mine
11) The Ledge
12) Everywhere
13) I Know I'm Not Wrong
14) Miles Away
15) Beautiful Child
16) Miranda
17) Brown Eyes
18) I Don't Want to Know
19) Like Crying (from Blue Horizon box set)
20) Underway (anyone as crazy about this one as I am?)

Then I realized that I didn't include "Why" and "No Questions Asked" and concluded that "I must have...I must have been CRAZY!"

I would replace "Brown Eyes" with "Why." I'm also not sure why I included "I Don't Want to Know." It probably isn't worth of a top 20 or anything.

I wish I had more blues-era, but I don't know as much of it, comparatively. So my CD wasn't all that balanced.

Best song on Time. I'm a big fan of her songs from Tango to Time, anyway, I thought she was at her best during that time.

How so? I can understand being bored with some of Jeremy's Elmore James ripoffs, or with some the jammier covers from various live CDs (Jenny Jenny, Tiger, etc.), and I guess I can even understand finding some of Danny's stuff to be a little snooze-worthy... But what could possibly be boring about Black Magic Woman, The Green Manalishi, Oh Well, Love That Burns, Man Of The World, World Keep On Turning, I Loved Another Woman, Rattlesnake Shake... ?

a mix CD of fave Fleetwood Mac songs?

I don't usually make single-artist mix CDs for myself, because I tend to prefer just to listen to the albums, but I don't think I could possibly make one for Fleetwood Mac even if I tried. At the very least, it would have to be two discs, and I don't know if I could put Green and post-Green tunes on the same CD. It seems like such a different aesthetic, I don't know how I'd make it work. But maybe I'll try it someday soon and report back then.

Also, "I Believe My Time Ain't Long," and have I ever mentioned how much I dig "Long Grey Mare"? I think I have more than once at this point!

But I can't really see Danny being boring, but then again I love "Only Over You," so you can't trust a thing I say! But I love "The Purple Dancer" ("dancing in the space of...time") and "Child of Mine." I think those two are anything but boring. And for whatever reason I'm fascinated by the "Like Crying" on the Blue Horizon box set. The production on Then Play On bothers me. I love the way the vocals and guitars sound on the box set version.

It's bizarre to put Green and post-Green together. I've been listening to "Watch Out" lately and it would be weird next to "Landslide" or something.

Well, let's count 'em, and see how they stack up:

Stevie Nicks: 5

Rick Vito: 1
Billy Burnette: 1
Bekka Bramlett: 1

Hmmm...that's surprising...Danny led the way. Welch only 3; Chris w/4

Definitely NOT an indication of my favorite members or songs, really.

I tried to make a FM mix, but discovered I couldn't do it. So I had to make seperate mixes by each of the singers - Lindsey, Stevie, Christine, and Billy - that included solo material as well as Mac. Lindsey's original mix was two discs long, but I pared it down to one so I could listen to it on my discman.

Lindsey
The Chain (The Dance)
Come (Live in Boston)
Doing What I Can
Frozen Love
Gift of Screws
Go Insane (The Dance)
Go Your Own Way (The Dance)
I'm So Afraid (The Dance)
Murrow's Turning Over In His Grave (GOS)
Peacekeeper (the version on the SYW bonus disc, not the awful studio version)
Shuffle Riff (or whatever you want to call this one)
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind
Steal Your Heart Away (GOS)
This is the Time
Twist of Fate

Billy
Highway of Love
Heart to Call Home
Talkin' to My Heart
The Edge of Love
The Bigger the Love
Life and Death
Into the Storm
Hard Feelings
I Still Remember How to Miss You
When the Sun Goes Down
I Got It in for You
The Light of Love
I Got Busted
In the Back of My Mind (with Mick's stupid "I know what it's like" sh*t edited out)
Don't Say No
When It Comes to Love
Too Much Information
Walk With Me
Burnin' Up
Better Days (really a Bekka song, but it's from Bekka and Billy)

Stevie
Beautiful Child
Planets of the Universe (the demo, not the piece of sh*t from TISL)
Battle of the Dragon
Sleeping Angel
Everybody Finds Out
Silver Springs (The Dance)
Freedom
Say You Will
Reconsider Me
No Questions Asked
Illume
Smile At You (demo - not the annoying SYW version)
Without You
Thrown Down
At Last
Cathouse Blues
Welcome to the Room... Sara
Somebody Stand by Me

Christine
Did You Ever Love Me?
Heroes Are Hard to Find
Hold Me
Wish You Were Here
Roll With Me Henry
The Challenge
So Excited
One in a Million
Who's Dreaming this Dream?
The Smile I Live For
Little Lies
Isn't it Midnight
As Long as You Follow (best CM song ever!)
Behind the Mask
When It Comes to Love
Love Shines
Heart of Stone
All Over Again

Three "disclaimers" before I list my songs:

1) I do these all the time, so this isn't a one-time deal;
2) It has nothing to do with "favorites", it's more about mixing familiar songs with songs that I don't know so well (e.g. Mick's solo stuff, Rick Vito's solo stuff, etc.) and the result is "all over the place";
3) I do some of them (including the one below) on cassette so that I can use vinyl when I need to (I listen to these on the treadmill usually, with a walkman).

I just did my fifth tape the other day. This is an example of a variety tape I do (although I've done really good ones for the various members). Again, this is all over the place. Please don't think I'm just a horrible mixer! I literally choose songs at random (only criteria is that it's Fleetwood Mac-related and that I haven't used it on a previous tape).

Tape 5:
Crying in the Night
Cool Water (Mirage-era B-side)
Flee - Jeremy Spencer Band (Flee album)
Let Me On - Christine Perfect
Mind of My Own - Show Biz Blues Vol. 2
Born Enchanter - Heroes...
Sweet Girl - The Dance
Closing My Eyes - Then Play On
Born Under A Bad Sign - Peter Green solo (Blues for Dhyana)
Say We'll Meet Again - Lindsey (OOC)
Lazy Poker Blues - Mr. Wondeful
Farewell - Vaudeville Years
Walk Another Mile - Rick Vito (King of Hearts)

Cat Dancers - Sandy Stewart (Stevie backing vocals)
I Give - Mick Fleetwood's Zoo (I'm Not Me)
Close To Me - Chicken Shack (The Collection)
Get Like You Used To Be - Chicken Shack (Best of)
Easy To Fall - Bob Welch (French Kiss)
Sable On Blond - Stevie
Gold Dust Woman #1 - Rumours reissue
Behind The Mask - Behind the Mask
The Super-Natural - John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers (Peter Green song from the Hard Road album)
Dragonfly - Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac
Hollywood - from Time

I'll log on tomorrow to see if you guys bash me (I'm a newbie here - please be gentle) or if you think it's cool!

All of these tracklists are so cool!

Shuffle Riff (or whatever you want to call this one)
Question. What else is that song called? I think I've only seen it called "Shuffle Riff."

Your random CDs inspired me to make one of my own, FutureGames. It's not as random (I guess I don't know own enough stuff to be truly random), but I tried to go with the randomness notion.

1. Straight Back
2. Bare Trees
3. What Makes You Think You're The One?
4. Long Grey Mare
5. Never Make Me Cry (rough version from Tusk reissue)
6. Coming Your Way
7. Paper Doll
8. Lindsey's Song #1 (I Know I'm Not Wrong)
9. Sentimental Lady
10. Isn't it Midnight
11. Nothing Without You
12. Remember Me
13. Silver Springs (extended version from Rumours reissue)
14. Emerald Eyes
15. No Questions Asked
16. Brushes (Never Going Back Again)
17. Designs of Love (demo)
18. The Purple Dancer
19. Can't Go Back
20. I Believe My Time Ain't Long

Dragonfly - Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

Peter had already quit Fleetwood Mac when they recorded and released Dragonfly. Perhaps you could call it Danny Kirwans Fleetwood Mac for a short while?

I've seen it called Shuffle Run as well.

I've seen it called Shuffle Run as well.Okay. I don't think I've ever seen that.

By the way, I like your Walter Egan site! :) Your autographed photo is really cool! I haven't listened to my Walter Egan reissue that I bought much yet, but I'll be moving on to it soon enough and I'm looking foward to it.

Thanks! I never realized just how much of a pain in the ass sitebuilding could be! I've made other sites before, but the servers I've used in the past didn't require any html knowledge. (On the other hand, those servers were always crashing and things never quite looked right).
I assume you mean the Fundamental Roll/Not Shy reissue? I was sssooo happy when that came out. What a great thing to be able to hear "Tunnel O'Love" without all the pops and fuzziness of vinyl.

Yeah, I recently got Fundamental Roll/Not Shy. My Mom remembered "Magnet and Steel" from when it was big (that was before I was born) and she could not believe it was Lindsey and Stevie doing back-up.

Walter has collaborated with both of them (especially Lindsey) multiple times. He's also worked with Christine McVie. I assume from your avatar that you're a big CM fan? If so I highly reccomend picking up The Lost Album (if you haven't already) and Wild Exhibitions (which unfortunately isn't available on CD). Christine does backing vocals on some of the tracks. Walter describes working with her as a "Perfect" experience in the Lost Album liner notes.

Didn't really care about her before then for some reason. I didn't even realize that he had worked with her! (Geez, does he have any other FM connections? That's enough right there!) If you tell me he's worked with either Bob Welch or Danny Kirwan, then that's just going to be too much for me! Anyway, thanks for the recommendations. Very cool.

As far as I know, he hasn't worked with either Welch or Kirwan. I can't see him working with Danny as blues doesn't seem to be a big influence on his music. Though WE seems to have quite eclectic tastes in music so... anything's possible.

Other FM connections - He opened for both Fleetwood Mac and Dave Mason on his tour for the album Not Shy. He and Stevie dated briefly in the late '70s. That's about it, I think.

(Edit) Oh yeah, and WE had been performing "Sisters of the Moon" live on his Not Shy tour before it was recorded for Tusk. Walter originally wanted to record it for Not Shy but Lindsey put a stop to it.

I usually can't do a total "complete faves" mix, but sometimes I make one of songs I just am in the mood for at the time. I used to make Stevie mixed tapes and Fleetwood Mac mix tapes all the time when I was younger. Now I'm a mom and have less time to do these things, and dont' have my good stereo anymore. But I still have a few old mix tapes that are fun to listen too, and sometimes think up a new one to make. Fun stuff!
