Saw it on Monday and I promise, if you're a fan you won't be disappointed.
It has way more in common with the original trilogy than the previous prequels and some of it is actually quite shocking (it's even darker than Empire), plus it's great to see Vader on screen once again.
I can't wait to see it again!

On a side note- There was a bunch of Star Wars geeks camping outside of a theatre here, and it's not even being played at that one.

Oy, I'll wait for this weekend because the crazies will be out in full-force the first couple of days. I remember when I saw The Phantom Menace back in '99, cripes. I wanted to beat some of them over the head with their plastic lightsabers. That's why I only saw Attack of the Clones for the first time a few days ago, I didn't want to see it in the theater. But the new one? Looks yummy enough for me to go see it.

Actually I've become much more patient these days in terms of waiting to see movies  when the first two came out? I HAD to see them opening night - same with the Harry Potters...
Now? I really don't actually mind waiting too much :D
Although - the bits I'm seeing from EP III just have me drooling to see it....
Ah well my aversion to crowds AND crazies will probably keep me waiting til NEXT week anyway...

I wish he had left them alone and released the first three on DVD as they were originally, no Special Editions, no new effects, etc. He doesn't get that part of the charm of the first three was that they weren't perfect. 'Star Wars' midnight showings total $16.5 million
Thursday May 19 8:34 PM ET
The grand finale to the "Star Wars" saga opened in sold-out theaters on Thursday to legions of fans dressed in their Jedi finest, generating an estimated $16.5 million at debut midnight showings alone.
The unprecedented tally reported by distributor 20th Century Fox from some 2,900 midnight screenings fueled anticipation that "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" would mark one of the biggest film openings of all time.
An official studio estimate for the entire first day of the movie was not expected until Friday. And Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracking service Exhibitor Relations, said there was nothing to compare it to.
"This is a huge number," he added. "It portends a huge opening day number. I think the sky's the limit right now."
At the same time, the blistering pace of advance ticket orders accelerated. One leading online and telephone box office service, Fandango Inc., reported that tickets to "Revenge of the Sith" were selling at a record rate of six per second, up from four per second on Wednesday.
The top distribution executive for News Corp.-owned Fox, Bruce Snyder, said he "would be pleased" if "Sith" matched the $110 million grossed by its immediate predecessor, "Attack of the Clones," through its first weekend.
Some box office analysts said "Sith," by virtue of its generally superior reviews and status as the final chapter in George Lucas' "Star Wars" double trilogy, could surpass the opening-weekend tally of "Clones."
"Sith" also opened on more screens -- some 9,400 domestic prints in all -- than any previous installment in the "Star Wars" franchise, and ticket prices have climbed since "Clones" came out three years ago.
Experts said they expected "Sith" to easily gross between $35 million and $40 million on its first day in North American theaters alone. That would put it in the same league as "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" "The Matrix Reloaded," "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," "Spider-Man" and its sequel.
By comparison, "Attack of the Clones," which also opened on a Thursday, grossed $30.1 million its first day.
"Spider-Man 2" boasts the biggest first-day box office ever, $40.4 million, while "Shrek 2" holds the record for highest single-day gross -- $44.8 million earned in its fourth day of release. The original "Spider-Man" is the all-time weekend box office champ, grossing nearly $115 million in its first Friday-through-Sunday frame.
In the vacuum of official estimates of first-day business for "Sith," advance ticket orders offered the best evidence that the film was a blockbuster in the making.
"There are hundreds of sold-out shows across America, and demand is increasing, not subsiding," Fandango Chief Executive Art Levitt told Reuters. "It has picked up significantly even over yesterday's sales, and with this momentum (the sales rate) could grow even higher tomorrow."
The brisk pace of advance sales and the sight of "Star Wars" devotees lined up in costumes hours before midnight showings warmed the hearts of Hollywood executives everywhere looking for "Sith" to snap a 12-week box office lull.
Both Fandango and rival Moviefone.com said "Sith" has accounted for some 98 percent of all advance ticket orders during the past two days.
Moviefone.com said its movie trailer for "Sith" has been streamed 3.1 million times from its Web site, more than double the number of "Return of the King" two years ago.

I went to see it yesterday, and absoloutely loved it! It's definitely the best of this trilogy, and I think I'm at the point where I think it even blows 'Empire' out of the water.
Very dark, lots of action starting at the beginning, and going throughout, lots of emotions of all kinds, and I cried during some scenes. :o For those who have seen it, is it bad to be emphatic as to the main reason why Anakin wanted to learn the dark side of the Force? Then again, I doubt his vision would have come true had he not turned.
All in all, an excellent movie, possibly the the best of both trilogies, and if I'm a Star Wars 'nerd', so be it. :p

'Star Wars' Breaks Single-Day Sales Mark
LOS ANGELES - The last of the "Star Wars" movies has done what no movie in history has ever accomplished — sold $50 million worth of tickets in a single day.
"Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith" grossed $50,013,859 from showings at 3,661 theaters and more than 9,000 screens around the country on Thursday, including special midnight shows, according to box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. That beat the one-day record set in May 2004 by "Shrek 2," which sold $44.8 million on a single Saturday — its fourth day in theaters.
"It's staggering," said Bruce Snyder, president of domestic distribution at Twentieth Century Fox. "It's probably 20 percent more than I thought we could do."
The George Lucas film, which features the transformation of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker into the evil Darth Vader, also beat the opening day record held by "Spider-Man 2," which grossed $40.4 million when it opened on a Wednesday last June.
"Fifty million is a good opening weekend, let alone a single day," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor Relations. "This is the box office equivalent of a 100-year flood."
The news comes as a relief to Hollywood, which has seen a box office slump for 12 straight weeks.
Theater owners, studios and marketing partners had their hopes pinned on "Star Wars," to kick-start the summer movie season and they weren't disappointed.
The film debuted on 2,900 screens at midnight Thursday. The take from that one showing alone was $16.5 million, which beat the previous record of $8 million set by "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" in 2003.
Thursday's take dwarfed the next highest film, and last week's box office champ, "Monster-in-Law," starring Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez. That film grossed $1.5 million on Thursday, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
It is almost assured "Star Wars" will push past the $100 million mark for its opening weekend. The record for a three-day weekend is held by the first "Spider-Man," which grossed $114.8 million in May 2002.

Definitely the best of the prequels and close to my favorite one. Natalie Portman looked so beautiful with that long curly hair and for once I loved Ewan McGregor. Hayden looked the hottest I've ever seen him, too, and there was actually some good acting in a Star Wars movie. Go figure. Lucas certainly saved the best prequel for last, it blew away the other two.

Apparently there are still 20 years that need to be covered. According to the producer Rick McCallum, they're probably going to do it an a TV series of something like 100 episodes. Lucas would decide in 3-4 months if the project would start.

BTW - does anyone remember if Chewy ever referenced knowing Yoda or vice vera in the first three edisodes?
Like c3p0 and Vader, Chewy and Yoda never have a scene together.
I saw the movie yesterday and here are my thoughts:
The most important part: I enjoyed Sith, it was entertaining. It works nicely just as a transition piece. Everything that had to happen in this installment, did.
It was not, however, a good film. There were no characters except for Anakin and Obi-wan. Everyone else relied on viewers to provide characterization from previous films which is all right sometimes, but in this case lines were essentially interchangeable between all characters that weren't anakin and obi-wan as long as the switching took place on the same sides (good or evil)
This "movie" was not really a movie but rather a collection of scenes that seemed to rattle off as George Lucas went through the list of things he had to resolve to tie the films (and cartoon) together:
1. Gotta resolve dooko (check)
2. Gotta resolve revelation of palpatine (check)
3. Anakin has to turn completely to dark side (check)...
There was no consistency. He moved from one item on the check list to the next without really working to tie it together. By doing so he did create an entertaining collection but not a film.

Again, compared to the previous two prequels, the acting was outstanding in this one, imo. I've yet to see a Star Wars movie with truly good acting, even the old ones. I mean, Mark Hamill in Return of the Jedi is painful and everyone comes off as amateurs because Lucas is such a bad director. Samuel L. Jackson was still horrific, though. Unwatchable. It's all due to Lucas because these are all talented and capable actors.

My review: (HAS SPOILERS)
I admit I’m not the biggest fan of the new trilogy and largely went to see them as an extension of my adoration of the original trilogy. The first one was laughably bad, with its 8-year old hero and climactic imitation of the Ben-Hur chariot race, only with digitization instead of drama. There was no real humor (unless you count the infamous JarJar Binks). The second one was better, but dull.
The third one had no dull moments and was emotionally affecting. It even had some really cute humor in the beginning (largely due to R2D2), reminiscent of all the laughs we got in the original trilogy. JarJar Binks was reduced to a one-minute non-speaking cameo (George Lucas heard our prayers)!
We all knew how it would end, that it would be tragic, so it says something that Lucas was still able to surprise me. I was curious as to how he would make us hate a character that we’d grown to care about (theoretically, at least. I hadn’t really grown to care much about Anakin in the previous movies because they were so flat). He did it effectively by having Anakin kill children without blinking and choke Padme, establishing that while his turn might have began as a quasi-noble romantic move, it was nothing like that in the end. The Dark side cannot coexist with true love, and I’m glad he took care to establish that. I was disappointed in the abruptness of the turn. Anakin’s killing of the Samuel Jackson character was contextually understandable, as was his immediate reaction: “What have I done?!” However, in the next second, it’s “I will do whatever you command. I pledge my allegiance” and he goes and kills some kids. I just don’t understand how he went from being remorseful to amoral in a heartbeat.
The romance was indeed flat, but at least I did feel something when Padme cried out “You’re breaking my heart!” Therefore, while there wasn’t much chemistry, at least the lack of it didn’t kill the emotional power.
In the previous prequels, the special effects had been largely gratuitous and distracting. Here, that was not the case. They enhanced rather than detracted from the plot. The opening fighter sequence, while not very believable (they just fly into the ship, no prob! Come on!) was very effective visually. The greatest visual coup was the fight over the lava. That was spectacular – very realistic. It was also suspenseful. I keep thinking that at any minute Anakin would fall into the lava, but in the end it was Kenobi who brought him down after all. The fire was only secondary, as horrifying as it was (I had to look away when the flames reached his face). I still don’t understand why Kenobi didn’t put him out of his misery then and there but oh well, I guess it was necessary for the plot (although they could have made him believe Anakin was dead, which would be more believable).
Consistency gripes:
1) If Chewbacca had seen the power of the Force through Yoda, why did he join Han in dissing Ben as an “old fossil” with a bunch of “socerer’s tricks”?
2) Why wasn’t R2D2’s memory wiped clean? If he knew so much, why didn’t he speak up at any time during the original trilogy? (I did appreciate the inclusion of Captain Antilles). And I know this is leftover from Ep. 2, but why does he have rocket blasters here? He didn't in Ep. 4-6. Not to mention that Obi-Wan claims never to have owned a droid, but we see him with an R-4 unit.
3) The biggest one: Having Padme die in childbirth, even though Leia talks about memories of her mother in ROTJ. “Beautiful but sad.” She didn’t get any more face time than Luke did, and I find it hard to believe she got those impressions in the milisecond where Padme named her.
Overall I was satisfied. I went in knowing it could never be as good as the originals, but in comparison with the other two and even other current sci-fi movies, it came out on top. Action-packed and moving, it gets my vote as a movie definitely worth seeing.

I saw it recently on DVD, the first time I had seen it in years... compared to the new trilogy, the acting in "Empire" is almost Oscar-worthy! I think by "Return of the Jedi" most of the actors had gotten lazy in their roles or were under the influence of something and it definitely shows in their performances. As far as the new trilogy is concerned, all of the blame goes to Lucas... he really had some great, talented actors to work with. He seems to have a knack for getting the worst possible performance from his actors.

That one isn't even the biggest one for me as it could just be the way Leia's jedi-ness works. The biggest one for me is when Ben says (in ESB) "That boy is our last hope." and yoda responds, "no there is another." O-k-a-y, noe we see that Ben was actually AT the birth of the twins. He's much like Demille in that he couldn't direct an actor if his life depended on it. In the end, a bad performance is mostly due to the director and Lucas is the pits. BD was magnificent in AAE, but Swanson should have won it for her career, she had been nominated twice before - Sadie Thompson (first AA ever) and The Tresspaser (her first talkie which was a huge hit) - so, though BD was good, Swanson was on par and I think the career should have closed the deal for her. Most assuredly, Bette Davis played Margo Channing in a superb way. I think that year, it was just too hard a choice as they both deserved it. I also think had they both not been so generally disliked by their peers because they were considered tyrants, one would have won the statute.

I know - I love it and both of their performaces. I also LOVED Marilyn Monroe's performance (she ALMOST upstages BD in the party scene  ) and the guy who played Addison Dewitt was FAB., though he always played that kind of role.
As for the Oscar, I think Swanson deserved it more because Norma Desmond was a more complicated role that required more nuance to play than the power house all of time bravada of Margot Channing - and Swanson did it in spades - watch her hands in the scene where she is talking to a sleeping Joe Gillis about where he has been that night and how she needs him - no actual dialogue is required as the pleading with a sense of desparation and twisted psychosis is told via the hands. But, to be sure, both were undoubtably perfection - that is why I think the Academy Awards are a little silly sometimes.

Having Padme die in childbirth was a major screw-up, as when Luke asks Leia to tell him about her mom, "her real mom", she describes her as "beautiful, but sad".
I was told R2 wasn't bothered with a memory wipe because he wasn't a protocol droid. He can't technically 'speak' , so there was no need for a memory wipe.
No idea on Chewbacca, except, perhaps in the 20 years between , there may have been so much going on with the Empire and his home planet, that the memory of Yoda's use of the Force had faded.
Also, Obi-Wan never owned R-4, he was just a droid used on his fighter, much like the R2 and R4 units seen on the X-Wings in "Star Wars".

I also cried when Padme started sobbing after the Jedi massacre. :(
Me too, and when Anakin (now Vader) put the strangle-hold on Padme toward the end and shouted something to the effect of, "you've turned against me." That was intense .
Now for some critiques of Lucas's plotting:
I just saw the movie last night, and please forgive me for coming in late on this discussion, but one thing that didn't sit well with me was Anakin's rather uncomplicated, or shall I say, uncalculating move to the dark side. It starts out that Anakin needs the Emporer in order to save Padme from certain death, but after he kills Mace Windu, he immediately turns into Vader and starts killing younglings and doing all sorts of heinous sh*t. There was no build up, and little complication. If Anakin was going to be calculating about the whole thing, he should have struck a deal with the Emporer, kind of playing both sides against the middle, and then gradually become Vader instead of vowing immedate alligiance to the Emporer. Maybe this was done sloppily due to time constraints, but I could have used 30 more minutes of Anakin's psychology: frustration, confusion, anger, remorse, conflicting feelings, etc that slowly brings him to the dark side. I mean, lines like, "I'm so mad!" are not complicated enough for me in relaying Anakin's emotion  yikes! Also, I don't think Anakin should have become Vader until the helmet/mask was put on. Again, not enough emotional build up from Lucas. And the "NOOOOOOOOOO!" from Vader toward the end had me rolling in the aisles.
Two more things: Isn't it ironic how Anakin wanted the Emporer's knowledge of immortality in order to save Padme but in the end tried to murder her? I suppose that is to lead us further to believe that Anakin was really only looking out for #1 the whole time. His tragic flaws of arrogance, greed, and power-hunger surface above his love for Padme. Also, why would Padme die of the unwillingness to live after giving birth to two children that need her? Just things to ponder.

I thought the way he turned to the Dark Side was laughable, too. He kills Jackson, can't believe what he did, and then becomes Palpatine's henchman in all of three seconds. It was ridiculous. But this IS George Lucas, dear. I totally agree that it could have used a half hour more of development, especially since they barely developed Anakin in Episode II even. Just look at the "romance" between him and Padme. It was so forced and seemed so absurd from the beginning. But I still loved it for the fluff that it is.

Was anyone else yelling at Anakin when he was talking to Palpatine? "Don't listen to him! IDIOT!!!!!" I was getting so pissed off. Thankfully when I went there weren't too many people in the theatre.
Also, after Yoda fell during his battle with Palpatine....why didn't he get back up and finish him off? Instead of saying, "into exile I must go, failed I have" crap.

I really enjoyed the movie but I thought the plot was kind of sloppy towards the end. You can tell that Lucas knew where the story had to go but wasn't sure how to get there. Or, more likely, didn't want to be bothered with the details. He could have spent more than just the last hour of the third movie focusing on Anakin's turn to the dark side, especially since the first two movies basically went nowhere!
I agree with you about Vader's "NOOOOO!", I wasn't rolling in the aisle but my eyes were definitely rolling! :distress: The scene where he gets up and starts walking like Frankenstein was just stupid!

Bite my ass. Everyone is horrific in the Star Wars prequels. Samuel L. Jackson is one of the greatest living actors (in my opinion) and he stinks up the screen so badly that you need to go in armed with a gas mask. Same with Portman and McGregor and Christensen. But at least Portman and Christensen are gorgeous to look at, and the acting was mucho improved for the last one.

You'd be SHOCKED at how many that applies to -
 I used to work with a project manager with this affliction. This person was painful to work for. Everything was dissected into it's tiniest parts and nothing ever got completed, it was maddening! She would go on and on about nothing for hours. Gah! So of course, she became "Densa" to my team . Cuz we were wicked smaht, ya see? Not to mention mature.

I don't believe half of it, I just think it's entertaining. :D
I do believe the Desperate Housewives dish, though. No one with any common sense could believe for a minute that all those women put together are gracious, kind, and sweet to each other. I'd bet my life that they fight like cats and dogs and talk so much **** about each other.

Sharon Stone is a Mensa with no common sensa She is looking good these days though and looks happy. I'd love to see her in something good! She was so gorgeous in BI I could barely take my eyes off of her.

I agree, and her new boobs look really good, suprisingly. Anyway, though, I don't think she's a very good actress. High B movie skills, I would call. But she sure is good at that. I think all her roles should be bitchy/sexy temptresses. So that she can shine. :D

I can hear it now, "Why is Eva on everything? She ain't all THAT! Maxim's #1, whatever, she's always wearing padding! That little twit, how am I going to continue seeing her face every day without wanting to smack it? MEOOOW."

The way I see it, Scorsese has only made three great films: Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, and After Hours. The rest can be flushed down the ****ter for all I care.
He's not my favourite director but you'd flush Mean Streets or Casino?
By the way I think The Aviator wasn't a complete waste of time, I went to see it mostly for Cate Blanchett playing my all time favourite actress and she was fantastic... and her press conference (http://mfile.akamai.com/8629/asf/clips.download.akamai.com/8629/ActressSupporting_100k_2005.asx) after the Oscars was great too.

That's strange. If my television was playing the likes of Basic Instinct and Boom!, I'd be running out of the house faster than Sally Struthers runs towards a Ding Dong cart.
It's more in reference to the type of people that exist these days. I mean, HELLO!!! It's the 21st Century people- y'all should know not to sink money into unpolishable turds like Basic Instinct II. At least the late 80's/early 90's could blame their stupidity on post-cocaine stress disorder and Aqua Net Hair Band recovery. My TiVo is programmed with only the choicest morsels, hence my hermitdom.

Just cause Esterhaus mainly sucks, don't diss the instinct....
Bleeeecccchhhhhh........
However, I'm with you on Showgirls. It was on while I was in Vegas, and I was like "ooo!" and then, after about 4 lame words came out of what's her saved by the's mouth, I was like "yaaarrrgggggggh! Mariel, turn it!!!"
OY!!! I know that feeling.... It's like "hey, gimme a bromide!" Yeah, Showgirls gives me heartburn. Elizabeth Berkeley doesn't even qualify as an actress, so I can't say she's a bad one. It was interesting to see any possibility of her having a viable career go {insert sound of Obi Wan Kenobi turning off the tractor beam of the death star here} (staying on topic!!).
And it had Kevin Spacey, so it's automatically docked 100 points.
  Pay It Forward was on the screen at my vet's office while I had to wait for almost 30 minutes!!! With the sound on!!!!!!! It took a couple of days to recover from that one......
