View Full Version : Falling Asleep during a concert!

A man in front of me on Saturday night fell asleep during the show! Can you believe that? He was like a hundred and five years old and once Landslide started he was down for the count until Edge of Seventeen when his wife woke him up. And they left before Beauty and the Beast. Can you believe how unfair it is that some fans are across the country dying because they can't go to the show and other people got free tickets and decided to take a nap during the concert? I was mortified that someone fell asleep during a rock concert! Especially since I knew so many people that would have killed for his tickets to the show.

That could be the case. I just couldn't believe it. It is one thing to fall asleep at the movies, but at a concert? Oh my!

He was one of those "Stevie Nicks? Who's he?" kinda people. Pisses me off! Comp tickets are lame! People just go for the sake of going whether they like the performer or not.

The worst part of all was that the couple didn't even clap after the songs were over. Even the first song. After Enchanted they just looked at each other confused, didn't clap or even do a little "golf clap" they just sat there and decided to go to sleep right there and then! Like I said the guy was older then methusal but sheesh! Would it kill them to make the most of the concert?

When I saw FM in Vegas, there was a girl spread out on 3-4 folding chairs in the front row. She looked bored to death....
At Friday's Stevie show, the 2 rows of people in front of me were standing, so of course, I stood up too. There was a deadbeat couple behind me who asked me to move over toward the aisle so they could see. I didn't mind, it just gave me more room anyway. The rest of my row, and the row in front of me was pretty empty. They barely clapped or cracked a smile during the entire show. I just don't get people like that.

Isn't crazy how some people can be brought to tears by songs and have the best moments of there life and others can be bored to tears and leave early (to avoid traffic!)?

everyone may as well have been sleeping... wednesday night in the first mezz was dead, me and mike were the only people who even looked tempted to stand/dance... the woman next to me couldn't have fit more neatly into the dried out vegas stereotype, right down to the slip on shoes and gold lamE fanny pack. no movement from these people at all! halfway through the show she crossed her legs the other way, and then decided to give a tiny and misplaced clapclapclap in the middle of How Still... wtf? i mean, i know it was good... but was it truly better than everything that had come before? was HSML the very first thing that warranted a clap?

I once "almost" fell asleep at a Dead show. Sorry, but I was a bit tired/bored and could not even see the stage from where I was sitting. Now Stevie, that's another story. :)

Who saw the tiny Asian lady in the front row at Tuesdays show who was sitting with her fingers plugging up her ears!?!?!? WTH? Apparently, she thought it was too loud.
At Wednesday's show, a high roller in the front row, stuck her legs straight out in front of her so no one could stand in front of her during Edge. My roomie/friend was in front of her outstretched legs and she kicked her! Intentionally. I mean these high rollers were rude!

My Mom fell asleep during a FM show, but she was also abusing medication. She's fine now, but it was one of the things I brought up during the intervention. "Mom, you fell asleep at a frickin' concert!"

I'm not going to fault an old man for falling asleep, but if he didn't clap and left early then he shouldn't have been there. There's an element to this Vegas environment that is very unappealing to me, from the comp tix to people who spend buckets of money to the 90 minute max performance.
If I were an artist, I wouldn't want to agree to terms that limited my show. Last year, Dolly Parton had to cut songs that people in every other city got to hear because of the rule. I doubt Stevie plays much more than a 90 minute set these days, so it might be irrelevant, but it's the principle to me.

If the old man wasn't bugging anyone then what's the problem lol???
It's his ticket - and his seat - he can do whatever he wants! At least he wasn't yelling at people to sit down etc - maybe the music moved him to peace and he fell asleep
Who knows.
You get all kinds at concerts...I try to let it not get to me, enjoy MY time there and that's all that matters...I try not to worry about what others are doing....or not doing

Well, I remember reading an interview with Lindsey (right after the Clinton Inauguration) where he'd made some comment about Fleetwood Mac "sleeping through entire performances". So, if the artist can, the audience can, too, I say.

90 minutes max rule??? Good grief, that is ridiculous!! I'm less and less enamoured with Vegas the more I learn about the place. Vegas is supposed to be different, isn't it?
I understand an old man falling asleep - maybe his young ladyfriend/wife was a fan and wanted to see Stevie? Aah, true love! ;)
I would have loved to sit through the performance - my feet and legs and back were aching from all the walking I'd been doing. Scoliosis and Vegas do NOT make a good combination. But the peeps in front were up and dancing, so I didn't have much choice.

No, I was once again first girl behind security. Only got up on Fri when there was no security, but got there too late to be close enough for Stevie's magical hand to touch me. Yes, there should definitely be a parody...
Right behind security
all the time
I'll never touch Stevie's hand...
another bad seat,
another edge rush
another, heart broken, state of mind
Alone behind security
she dreams of touching Stevie
Far back - she's got a Stevie-less view!
Outcries when when will I touch her, when will I touch her now?
I've got my hand wide open and i'm ready
to smack security down
I say in words unspoken
Stevie touch my hand
Well I cry well I never get to touch her! Crappy seats! Cuts like a knife!
etc.

Amber sits in her crappy seats
And wouldn't you hate to be her
Tries to rush the stage like a bird in flight
But cannot seem to push through
All her life she's dreamed of touching Stevie's
Tiny, tiny hand
She could shove just a little bit harder
Will she ever win
She sits for a little too long
And then the stage is filled up
She needs to run just a little bit faster
And then she'd be right up there
All her life she's dreamed of touching Stevie's
Tiny, tiny hand
She could shove just a little bit harder
Will she ever win
Will she ever win

When I was around 10 or 11 years old, for some unknown reason (punishment maybe?) my folks forced me to go to this HORRID Merle Haggard (or maybe it was Marty Robbins?) concert. It was at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth, TX. Our seats were WAY up in the rafters. The show was EAR-SPLITTINGLY loud, yet somehow I managed to fall asleep thru most of the show. I don't know how I did it, unless maybe it was a survival mode reflex. :distress:

Yeah, I still have no idea how I did that, considering I was just a kid and not sleep-deprived or on drugs or anything. Those years came much later-and I STILL never fell asleep at a real concert! An idiot old friend of mine passed out wasted at a ROBERT PLANT concert in the late 80s. I still burn with rage at what a moronic thing to do that was!! Luckily I was in the 5th row and having the time of my life. I do no partying at all for certain special concerts (like SN or FM of course) just to make sure each and every brain cell is focused on remembering every detail of the show. My motto is: if it's an artist you don't like or know, JUST DON'T GO!

I can not believe people are defending this guy. I'm not saying he should serve prison time for falling asleep... I just am in awe that a person could take a nap at a rock concert! And even worse, he and his wife didn't clap they just looked at each other after each song like "should we leave now?" That bugged me! They should have been enjoying an early bird special and played bingo that evening and given their seats to actual music lovers.

My brother was a specialist in getting asleep at concerts when he was eleven-twelve years old (and I was about fourteen). He slept during all the Simple Minds, Boomtown Rats concerts and dozed off watching Paul McCartney's one too. How could he have been able to start to snore while all the rest of the amphitheatre was belting Hey Jude will always be a mystery to me. .

I didn't defend him, but didn't understand why you made a big deal about his age, saying he was "like a hundred and five". I think it's cool that someone would be at a Stevie concert at an old age, and if he fell asleep then so what. And your "early bird special" comment is just continuing the snide remarks about old people.
But not clapping and leaving early is rude, so I agree with you there.

Oh give me a break! I was just joking about the "early bird" thing. And if he was so old that he couldn't stay conscious for even one song then he didn't belong at the concert. My grandfather who is in his mid 70's went with me to the Jacksonville Fleetwood Mac concert but he was on his feet clapping, etc. during most of the songs, not sleeping!
