View Full Version : What did everyone think of Vegas (the city)?

As far as the city it self goes, what did you think?

I was extremely uncomfortable being so hot and dry. I didn't like the desert air at all. I've never drank so much water in my life! And the climate really did a number on my skin. I still can't believe how moisturized Stevie's skin felt considering she lives in the desert.

I did love the actual city though (not the climate!) I thought it was insane that all the stores stayed open until three in the morning. Just the fact that you could go shopping at Gucci at midnight was kind of cool. And the food was fantastic. Cheesecake factory after the concert was great. Just thinking of their food is making my mouth water right now. The buffets were great. I can't believe I ate a buffet at midnight! So unhealthy, but so yummy! Did anyone else do the Paris buffet? It was fabulous! The cheeses alone were to die for.

I thought Vegas would be much more seedy then it was. It seemed more like a fantasy world then anything else. ALmost like Disney World, except it was real life.

I thought it was cool how they had escalators that brought you to the other side of the street so you wouldn't get run over.

One thing that was annoying was those guys that were passing out those stripper cards. Every single time we walked down the strip someone was shoving a half naked lady in my face. Those cards were all over the street!

All in all I liked Vegas but I don't know how those people can stand that dry air. I guess you get used to it. I would have liked it to be much cooler, but that is just me.

What did everyone else think of Vegas (not factoring in Stevie)?

I have been there many many times, but not in the last 18 or so years. The Bellagio was fantastic. Our rooms were very nice as was the staff. But, even there, the seediness took hold. I saw three people in the hallway going at it sexually on the way to my room  - actually, now that I think about it - had I not been so drunk  Seriously, they were making out. Also, our minibars automatically charged you if you removed ANYTHING and just looked at it and put it back. Can you IMAGINE how much money they fradulantly make off of that. I mean I looked at the ehternet cable they were selling in my room and each time I did, it charged me $10.95 for a total of like five charges on my bill. AND - they do not tell you anything about this auto scan system - anything AT ALL or anywhere. That is just sleazy.

I work at The Bellagio (in Circo) and those minibars are a total scam. People complain daily about it.

Overall, I enjoyed Vegas. There's a variety of choices for food, which I love. :woohoo: I got a little tired of the stripper cards and that woman's ass on the Bally's sign. So much of it was a blur, though.....We tried to cram so much into three days. We whizzed around New York, New York, MGM, and Treasure Island just to get a glimpse. We never made it down to The Mirage or Mandalay Bay. If I were to go again, I'd want to better plan the trip. We spent too much time wandering and trying to find stuff.

Ya know I think I knew that and forgot it. I sooooooo would have come to see you :( We were on the 25gth floor and faced the lake/fountains, which were STUNNING!!!!!!!

Yea the mini bar thing is BS - AND as you wait over an hour in line to check out (they cleverly have about FOUR check out people) - they cleverly have thus well dressed beautiful person asking if you want to check out without seeing your bill, which many do. We found over $100 in errors on our bills, mostly the mini bar charges. Imagine how many conventions go there and a big company pays for 100+ rooms and never even notices the extra $$$$$ fraudulantly on there. I mean I knew about it because this is not the only hotel to do this. But, for them not to mention anything to you about it EVER or ANYWHERE is just CRAP. Then, the room service guy told me point blank that his tip was not on the room service charge and he did not know what the delivery charge was, which in most hotels is his tip and it is like 20%, though I forgot what it was at The Bellagio. But, despite all that crap, it is a BEAUTIFUL hotel

ON EDIT - when you question the mini bar charge on the bill that you waited at least 1/2 hour in line to see amdist the clever temptation of just signing and leaving, they sort of look at you like "are you serious" and then back down but have to fill out these pink slips to note the error, which takes them like 20 minutes AND - they cannot itemize the instantly scanned items, so if you used the mini bar AT ALL, you have to remember whst you used. It was a total rip off and I am thinking about reporting them, as if that would do any good in Vegas

I did eat at the Paris buffet and the made-to-order crepes were to DIE for! My mouth is watering thinking about that! Yes, the cheeses were outstanding, the whole buffet was top notch, even the coffee was delicious. And Cheesecake, I had excellent chicken marsala there and a fabulous chocolate martini with sugar and cocoa around the rim! Let's see, what else did I eat? Oh yeah, an omelet at Caeser's in the cafe as well as these totally decadent dark chocolate desserts. One was a chocolate cup filled with pudding-like custard and topped with glazed fresh strawberries, YUM. And one a dark chocolate cup filled with chocolate mousse, mouthgasm! Holy cow. And then Califiornia rolls and a spicy rice noodle dish at Chinois. The Cali rolls had real crabmeat in them and were seriously the best I've ever had. Everythign was delicious. Can you tell I love food? Mmm.

I love food too much for words but I had some sort of flu bug last week. I really wanted to order this lobster ravioli at New York, New York but was afraid I would get sick for the Stevie show. Maybe I'll go back to Vegas so I can order that pasta? It sounded to die for!

My favorite part of the Paris buffet was the jumbo shrimp cocktail!!! Yummy!!!

Las Vegas marked my first time being out west. I've done the east coast crawl, i've been overseas, i've been to the islands but I had never been out west. The plane ride, though incredibly rough, gave some incredible views of the Rocky Mountains and my breathe was taken away at the sight of the Grand Canyon. The view of The Bellagio fountains and the mountains behind it from my room were amazing and honestly, the weather was a nice change from the humidity of New Jersey (I liked that dry heat except the day we walked most of the strip). It's an amazing place and I'd love to go back there again because I missed a lot. I dig the desert though...I can't think of a more beautiful place to live (perhaps not Vegas but...you catch my drift).

I loved the weather, I was all crabby today here cause it was really windy and cloudy/sunny - about 65 degrees. Vegas is okay, but everything is too expensive. My favorite hotel was the Luxor, loved the decor. I can't imagine living there, the city part is kind of ugly.

If you live here you have to go WAY outside of the strip where it doesn't look so ghetto. Then the houses and everything aren't so bad/ugly. I live about 10 + miles away from the strip.

I liked it too. It's frikkin COLD here today, blech. I have really thick, curly/frizzy hair so the dry air is good for keeping it under control.

It really depends on where and how much your house is. But for the most part your right. Alot of the new houses look exactly alike. You're not allowed to have grass because of watering restrictions, so all the yards look the same. Cactus and honeysuckle everywhere. Plus they're so close together, they remind me of the flats in England.

I just moved into a new development in Apr. Most of the houses look the same, but they're alot bigger and NOT on top of eachother.

Eh, I guess Amber is right. It is kinda ugly.

No, but yeah, I was pissed I didn't bring my conditioner, at least. But really, my hair rarely looks much better or much worse. I put oil on the ends of my hair sometimes, too, when it's too snizzly and broken. It works wonders.

Having lived in AZ for five years, the dry weather doesn't bother me; in fact I much prefer it to humidity. Vegas off the strip (you know the real city where people actually live) reminds me a lot of Phoenix. I'm hoping Stevie goes back in October, so I can go this time.

Oy, I loathe Vegas.... I only went because of Stevie and the hope of an adventurous setlist. It was worth it, but..... what do I not like about Vegas?

1) It's so crowded these days that it's hard to gamble at decent tables anymore.

2) Strollers   HELLO!!!! It's Sin City!!! Leave your ****ing children at home please! I was walking through the smoke-filled casino at Caesar's and some mom was blocking the entire aisle with one of those double-wide-twinsy stroller things. UGH!

3) The prices!! I am a total first class travel snob and am willing to pay for the best, but $73.00 for a bottle of ****ty label champagne?!?!? I mean really....

4) The heat. I can't deal with 100 degree heat here in LA and I can't deal with 100 degree heat in Vegas. That's why I used to go to Vegas for Christmas vacation back in the day.

What do I like about Vegas?

1) The opulence. I'm a total sucker for over the top stuff (rococo, et. al). Caesar's Palace is awesome. I loved staying there. Nice room, huge bathroom, gorgeous naked men statues all over the place. The fountain is beautiful, with the sky changing from day to night and back again really quick.

That's about it.

I was disappointed with Vegas. I suck at gambling, and the other options are limited - at least that I could see. If it weren't for Stevie and my Ledgie/BN board friends, I would have been bored to death. Not to mention the prices! Ack!

At least the Paris breakfast buffet was a bargain. Delicious!

I? LOVE Vegas! This was my third trip out there.

Love the food, love window shopping, love strolling through the hotels & shops. The weather's great in Spring, and the pool at Flamingo was awesome! I'm not a huge gambler, but I have enough luck that I can keep playing for a bit. I like the all lights, the free stuff (animal habitats, Bellagio fountains, Mirage volcano, Caesar's tacky decor, Venetian's canal, etc.), the different hotel themes, the free drinks while you gamble.

I wouldn't want to live there or anything (no offense to Seeker or Creeping) and I could do without a few things (those creepy porno guys flapping those brochures at you, the price of drinks in restaurants, all the ass photos in cabs & on billboards) but in general, I'd go every couple of years if I could.

NO, I was dead tired the whole trip. I would have died right out in the desert. Maybe next time I go to Vegas I will take a trip out there.
