View Full Version : Stevie said "Mick" right nbefore Beauty and the Beast on Saturday

Forgive me if this has already been discussed (there are about five million pages about Vegas- it would take me all day to read every post!) but did everyone else notice how after the piano solo, right before she started to sing Stevie said "Mick" and then seemed a little flustered like she was thinking out loud or something? I thought this was very interesting and everyone when she said this was like "huh?". She obviously didn't mean to say this. And then after the song she said someone's name and said "yes, that song's for you!" Was she talking about Mick Fleetwood?

I just have to say that Vegas was amazing and Beauty and the Beast was the best experience of my life (either that or getting to shake her hand and having her smile at me... I can't decide which was more thrilling  ) Anyways, during B&theB on Friday night I almost fell collapsed, the song was so beautiful. I couldn't move and didn't clap or scream when the song was over because it was just too beautiful and heart breaking. "I've never doubted your beauty... I've changed!" OMG, just thinking about it is too much.

I saw in another thread that she said at the end of BaTB that it was for "Ruby and Tessa"...her Goddaughters. So...that is very sweet.

I said that in another thread. Last night she did say Mick at the beginning of BATB. It was intentional because he was there. I was across the aisle from Mick and his wife and the twins, Ruby and Tessa. Stevie knew they were there. At the end she said that was for Ruby and Tessa. Mick really wasn't paying too much attention during the show or even during that part. He was mostly juggling one of the girls on his lap and keeping her busy. His wife had the other twin on her lap. One rude dude tried to get Mick's autograph during the show. What an ass. The twins were very well behaved for tots their age. Good going, Mick.

Oh hey! I saw this after I posted. It was great meeting you! Weird that Mick didn't really respond too much even when she sang Beauty and the Beast. Hmmm... I noticed he was chatting quite a bit during the show. That would have been annoying for the people around him trying to watch.

I would think it a little embarassing to be sitting in the audience with the wife and kids, and have your ex bemoaning the loss of your great love.... perhaps he was grateful that the twins were taking his attention away from that....

I don't think that was what she was doing. JMO. He was there. He was in the video she did on that song. Her god daughter's were there. She acknowledged Mick and the kids with the song. That's all. She dedicated Landslide to her mother on Friday.

Hey, Daniel. Thanks for backing me up. I was the lady next to you on the aisle. I'm sorry we didn't see you again after the show. Caesar's was nuts on Saturday so we left after about an hour. Wasn't Stevie amazing? I saw all 4 shows. Nothing will ever top the show on Wednesday, but I think you had to be in the first 5 or 10 rows to get that show. It was not for general public consumption, as far as I could tell. I'm still not sure it was really Stevie on stage Wednesday. She was like a totally different person that night. Tues she was nervous. Wed, if you were sitting in the first few rows, you could see she was noticeably uninhibited. Fri and Sat were great overall shows for the entire audience. Every show was worth seeing and was special for a different reason. As long as you never believed all the bull she was slinging in the Jim Ladd interview, there was nothing disappointing about her performances. She had great attitude and seemed happier than ever. Her vocals were outstanding. She sounded better and more consistant than she's sounded live in many years. Imo, the videos were an annoying distraction but were necessary to keep Stevie from being swallowed up by that huge stage. It would have been nice if the videos were relevant. I didn't care for them much at all except the rare ones of Stevie herself. It would have been better use of the screens if she had been projected up there singing more than the quick few times they showed her full screen. I'm sure she didn't want to be shown up there, ten feet high, in close ups for everyone to scrutinize how she looked. Too bad for the people sitting far away, because she looked great and it would have been better to see her up close to clearly appreciate the performances.

Yeah, I don't think she was necessarily singing that song directly to Mick. I had the impression both nights that I saw her perform it that she was singing it to the idea of love and loss as opposed to a particular individual.

I don't agree. I think she was just acknowledging Mick - he knows it's about him. Many fans know it. I'm sure his wife knows it. And their affair happened long before Mick's marriage to his wife. I actually think it's really sweet that Stevie and he have stayed such close and dear friends. She's Ruby and Tessa's godmother; I think clearly she's close friends with (is her name Lynn??) Mick's wife, too.

Does anyone else agree that she was thinking out loud? It sounded ackward to just say his name mid-song and she onbviously didn't mean to say it. The second the song was over she quickly clarified what she said, or at least that is what it seemed like to me. Does anyone have a bootleg of this show? You will hear what I mean.

Someone sitting in the second mez said they were next to a camera man who said the show was not being filmed but monitored for the screens. However, Stevie was being shown close up all the time on the camera. I forget where I read that or which night it was. I think it was posted here somewhere?

that was me (and mike aka poetinmyhear), and yes it was only being used for the screens. now FM films all of their shows, surely stevie does as well... to see what's working, what needs work, etc. seeing professional eqipment is a bit misleading, but i wouldn't hold out for an official recording.

Also, I met a guy at "Le Crape" or whatever it was called at Paris and while waiting for our orders he saw my Stevie shirt and told me he worked the video and lights for Stevie and Fleetwood Mac. The first thing out of my mouth was "Is the concert going to be released on video or anything?" And he said no but Stevie wanted to come back and that the show might be recorded for official release then.

Yeah, if you were out in the restroom area, they had TV's everywhere - you could still see and hear the show...

As for the Mick comment, it was very deliberate...almost as if she was saying it to get his attention. I don't recall any obvious sound glitches, but it's possible that her mike cut out and she was saying, "This is for you..." and then her mike came on when she said "Mick." But my impression was that there was no technical glitch, and she really did just say, "MICK!"

That makes a lot of sense - maybe that her mic was cut out. I was wondering if she had been in the middle of saying to someone on stage something about Mick and then her mic came up and caught his name. But I think your theory makes far more sense.

I'm also wondering if like many of the Fleetwood Mac shows, she didn't record them for her own personal use...perhaps to view them later and see what she could improve on, etc.

Interesting point... but i don't think Stevie ever looks at herself on camera... i remember her saying somewhere that it makes her "paranoid"... but it's a possibility, at least as far as the vocals as concerned...

Prolly cuz he wasn't paying attention and was chatting it up with someone else (didn't someone post that bit of info previously?) I mean how RUDE! If I were La Nicks and my invited guest wasn't paying me the respect I was due during my performance I would front him off too! I can also verify that Mariel and I did try and bribe this gentleman but he didn't seem to willing to hand over the tape. I have heard from a couple folks though that Tuesday's show was taped (as in available on video). I imagine we'll see it leak out soon.

correct-o... our taper was a crewmember dangling off the front of the mezz, several people spotted a less professional taper sitting IN the mezz seats... i'm just hoping that he's trading and not charging $$$. oh, and if he is - we're making this a group effort. you figure that if it's $30 and there are thirty ledgies able and willing to chip in... i just HATE people who sell boots. yeah, anyways, don't be greedy taperman!

Yea..he was the same guy who did alot of the SYW shows. He charges 30 bucks a show. It will make its way around to trades eventually. I was told he goes to the shows ONLY to tape so that is why he sells them...to cover his expenses. I have no idea if that is true or not but I do love his Champaign and Marysville boots from SYW.
People are selling the cds from the show right now too. (one person IM'd me and one PM'd me on another board and asked me if I wanted to buy Tuesday and Wednesday's show)

That's so cool about her saying his name. When I saw her do BATB for the first time LIVE  , it was so obvious that her emotion about it was genuine. I think Mick was one of the great loves of her life and it must be really emotional for her to sing this song and especially with him in the audience. Maybe she was flustered and was thinking about him, thinking his name, then said it out loud like "whoops, did I say that out loud?"

I might be the only one but sometimes I wonder about those two. Mick goes where she is or the other way around. They were in Hawaii at the same time, the R&R Hall of Fame and he went to more than one of her Vegas shows. When I saw her perform BATB, I was blown away and I know she can't act her way out of a bag  so sometimes I wonder. I don't think it's an affair but I think she might still have some deeeep feelings about him. I think when Stevie loves, it's profoundly and I think Mick broke her heart. Knowing all that made the performance all the more moving for me and I'm sure for her. Mick probably wasn't distracted as much as he was trying to distract himself. Listening to his ex sing the most romantic love song about how deep her love is for him can't be too comfortable with his wife and babies by his side. I would distract myself too, if that were me. Very cool she said it though. Hmm. :xoxo:

i think they're close because they are the two bandmates who chose to stay active in the music community. yes, lindsey records and tinkers and i can't wait for the album to finally get out... but he doesn't randomly show up for press events like stevie and mick do. oh and then there's 'i don't do interviews' john... ;)

I get a sweet brother and sister vibe off of Mick and Stevie. IMHO, Stevie would NOT be out and about with him if she had intimate feelings for him. Stevie is way more subtle than that, more mysterious.. Plus she is extremely close to Micks's wife, Lynn.

BTW..I am not convinced BaTB was written ABOUT Mick anyway. Yea, yea i know what she said, I know what it says in Timespace, "Written for". No one has to agree, it is just my own personal feeling. I do not think she was singing it for Mick on Tuesday or Wednesday and Saturday she prolly was singing it to her Godchildren. Plus does anyone REALLY think Mick would die of grieving when she left him?? Uh, no..he dumped her ass for her best friend.

Well, I think it is about the movie - the lyrics clearly suggest that  but I think while writing it, she romanticized about her relationship with Mick. I know you always point out that Mick dumped her, but it is highly likely they mutually agreed to end it for the band's sake (they both say this) and that while they were in it it was not a monogamous thing

But, I do think she knew that if that affair was out on the open, which it could not be, it would have sent LB into an apoplectic rage and thus destroyed them forever taking FM in that form with it.

It was so distinct and on purpose. It was also one of the best experiences of my life. To touch that tiny little talented hand...heaven. All that talent and grace packed in that beautiful lady. It was just SO awesome!

Here's another thing I'll place into Lux's box of Stevie/Lindsey and Stevie/Mick contradictions. Why is it we cannot believe Steve is still attached to Lindsey after he pulled her ass and career out of the ashes in 97, but it makes perfect sense that Lindsey would be in an apopleptic rage back in 77 if Mick and Stevie committed to a serious and meaningful relationship after she broke up with LB and he moved on to another woman? That only makes sense to the people who think Stevie and Mick had such true and star-crossed love they sacrificed it for the feelings of another person, rather than they dumped a sleazy affair in favor of a high flying rock career that could have been jepordized if LB decided to leave the band to Mr. and Mrs. Fleetwood Mac and go out and do his own thing. The real situation probably lies somewhere in the middle. LB was likely not happy about Stevie and Mick, but how did ending their affair and telling the world in Rolling Stone make LB any less upset or less likely to quit the band than if the affair continued? Mick knew Lindsey was fearful of his designs on Stevie from the minute they joined the band. That didn't stop the affair from happening. How true or great a love was it that they ended it just to keep the Mac train rolling down the track?

I think the difference is actually having to see the people every day and work with them while they are having the affair, when that girl was just your girlfriend only seconds before. That seems much, much more likely to cause strife than having to deal with an "outside the band" affair. God, if I had to watch someone I just went out with and still love shmoodling someone else every day, I would go mad. Mad, I tell you. I would hate it. I'd probably want to punch them and leave the band. And then, you're on the road with them, and you just know they're in each others rooms all night. Yaaargh! :wavey:

LB was likely not happy about Stevie and Mick, but how did ending their affair and telling the world in Rolling Stone make LB any less upset or less likely to quit the band than if the affair continued? To the absolute best of my knowledge, the information about Mick and Stevie's relationship didn't become public until 1990, when Mick's book was published and portions of it were printed in Rolling Stone.
About 12 years after the relationship, and three years after Lindsey had already left the band. It certainly wasn't news to Lindsey by that point, nor do I think it would have still been hurtful to him in any way, shape or form.

How true or great a love was it that they ended it just to keep the Mac train rolling down the track?Relationships end for a variety of reasons. Sometimes for no more reason than the people just couldn't share the same home together, without clashing.
Does that therefore negate whatever it is they had initially?

No, that relationship was blasted across the rock press back in the 70's. It was not first revealed in the 1990's. People who keep trying to rewrite history based on Mick and Stevie quotes from the 90's are never going to see things as they were. Lindsey surely was upset about hearing of the affair. He did want to quit the band before and after he found out. So if Mick and Stevie were so much in love, why not let him leave? Stevie was the backbone of the band, afterall. Lindsey had another woman yet he still couldn't get over Stevie. She certainly was over him. :]

That is a lot like what happened to everybody in that band. They were shmoodling with other people and in each other's rooms, not just Mick and Stevie but John and Chris had to handle seeing other people, though not in the band but people who worked for the band. Lindsey had Carol around a lot, and of course Stevie was so over it she didn't care. These people were and are all nuts and that's why they still are so disfunctional today.

Their relationship was gossiped about in the seventies. I remember at the very first Stevie concert I went to..Wild Heart..my Mom, who was a huge Stevie/Lindsey/Mac fan told me about Mick and Stevie's relationship. She was an SnL lover...so she was rather put off by the whole idea of their involvement but that is neither here not there. Apparently people knew about it and it was talked about long before Mick's book and Rolling Stone because my mother passed away in 1989...BEFORE having a chance to read Mick's tell all.

True - but GF was implying, as she always does, that LB was a larger star and through that stardom, he rescued La Nicks whose career was going nowhere fast as opposed to his. If anything, it is the opposite because La Nicks has always been a larger star than LB and was then even though both of their careers were declined. I mean I get that SA did not sell well, but it sold far more than OOTC (I think) and at least she still had the star power then to go on Leno and Letterman (to a huge ovation no less) and get booked in the sheds across the country, which he could not do with OOTC - that is dispositive of her star power. Also, in that time period when she supposedly was so washed up, she was asked to do a song for what was being poised as a huge blockbuster Hollywood movie. Again, that was dispositive of her remaining starpower even in her apparent decline. So, while I totally agree they both needed each other for The Dance, she was a far larger star even in her decline than he probably ever was in the way that a name is recognizeable to the average person. Also, I do not relish that and I think LB is a great artist and a nice guy, but thems the facts and the LB die hards are loathe to admit it because they hate Stevie so much - probably because of that.

Finally, I get that La Nicks career was in decline in the mid 90's - so there is no need to point that out  My point is that even in its decline, she was a far larger star than he was.

I'm not loathe to admit anything. They were both has-beens. I just get a kick out of someone who was once a huge star and seller of millions of records having a career that degenerated into contributing mediocre songs to movie soundtracks and doing free concerts for local radio stations, and then being built up as still having loads of starpower. I can admit that Lindsey was totally washed-up, but La Nicks was just as much washed-up as he was. No one is arguing against the fact that she was always a bigger star, which, in my opinion, kinda makes her more of a has-been in the public eye (or at least in the smut rags) than he was because she fell the furthest at that particular time. You can point to Letterman and all that other **** from 1994 (which doesn't really matter because her record still bombed, just like his, and her tour bombed, just like his), but no one was talking about 1994, I was discussing the time when The Dance rolled around. You know, the time when they needed each other to make money and possibly further their career.

I think I said I agree her career and his were both in decline - nice try at the spin though :)

My point is, she was still getting out there and she was trying to come back. He was to my knowledge doing nothing of the sort and still working on a solo record that it took HER to come back to FM to get release like seven years later  But, back to the point at hand, the response she got at those "free" concerts was big and that she was even asked to do a movie song, which she had, in case you forgot, been doing since like 1980  - was indicative that she still had some popularity left. He had nothing approaching that and he was not really doing anything to get it. That is all I am saying.

And - probably more people saw her in two weeks of her SA tour than all of his OOTC tour  Thus, my point, which is even in her decline, she was still a larger star. And - let's compare album sales from that era shall we :wavey:

They both needed a kick in the ass in '96. They knew that a FM Reunion would do that. However, if one showed and the other did not, it would have flopped. A collaboration between those two was definately needed. No question about it.

If the Reunion would have never happened...Lindsey would just have hibernated in the studio and Stevie would be playing in Vegas....oh, wait.

Jason, I don't think that is what Glitterfades was referring to and you know it. IMO it was simply a matter of who needed who more at the time. LB was the more solvent of the two at the time, by Stevie's own admission. I think the quote from her is something along the lines of "Lindsey doesn't need the money, so he has to want to do it." I think her finances were not in as good a shape as his and so yes, she needed him to do this for her. I do agree however, that it is the magic between these two and even those 5 particular members that made that tour the rousing success that it was.

This argument of... who is the more popular, who needed who more.... would we even know who Stevie Nicks is if it weren't for Lindsey Buckingham.....is pointless. You could even argue further that we wouldn't know who either one of them were if it weren't for Mick Fleetwood, or for that matter Keith Olsen. Yet you don't hear his name bantered around here too often.

As for the Mick/Stevie love affair... I get it. I see it for what it was, when it was.... and I think that Stevie remember's it fondly, for what it did for her at the time. She has also remained very close to Mick and his family and I think all of those feelings are all tied up together, in how she feels about Mick today.

As for Lindsey...Sorry...I'm a shipper. (God how did you guys let one in here.) :sorry: I believe, no matter how politically incorrect it is to say so on a public message board...that Stevie and Lindsey are madly in love, right now as we speak. It is MHO that they fell back in love during The Dance period....situations arose that caused the relationship to take another path, for awhile, however I think that they grew close again during the making of the SYW album and subsequent tour, and they have finally decided to make a go of it....one more time. I think that his house being for sale is a pretty good indication of an impending divorce, and I was not at all surprised to hear that he was spotted in the mezzanine at Caesar's. I fully expected him to be there as I am sure many other's on this board did as well.

Yes there are a plethora of other reason's for things that are said, looks that are exchanged, songs that are written, houses being put up for sale, etc etc.....but to me this theory of mine is just as plausible as all of the others. Just not as popular. I find it hard to imagine sometimes that when some of you look at them you don't see what I see....that is why I keep it to myself. I know I am swimming upstream here....but man.....when I look at them I see a man and a woman who have been in love with each other for over 30 years. Who have tried to fight it for whatever reason they thought made sense at the time, but have finally come to the conclusion that it is pointless. They love each other and that is that. The show at CP was in my book, entirely about...dedicated to .....and performed for...Lindsey Buckingham. From the name of the show, to the songs chosen, to how fabulous she looked and sounded. That was all for him. Of course, this is only my humble opinion...(I think that is the requisite terminolgy to be used when taking this most unpoplular stance)....and of course I am just a CSF that has somehow escaped and made my way over into foreign lands. But that's ok....to me they are and will forever be Romeo and Juliet....Heathcliff and Cathy....with a little of Homer and Marge thrown in for good measure. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong and you will get to use the jumpy smiley guy....but if I'm not and I don't think I am.....I do intend to use him just once....to express my shear delight that these two have finally found their way back to each other. I do feel compassion and a great amount of sympathy for the other men and women who have been hurt as a result of this great love. But I have the same amount of compassion and sympathy for Stevie and Lindsey if they do in fact feel the way that I think they do, and in my mind it is no less deserving. Sometimes no matter how hard you try to fight it....you simply cannot deny it. And - probably more people saw her in two weeks of her SA tour than all of his OOTC tour

Oh, no. And, here I was agreeing with the rest of your post.

You gotta remember, Lindsey spent a few weeks of the OotC tour opening for Tina Turner in big venues...it wasn't ONLY Lindsey playing small clubs the whole tour. Plus, Lindsey did BOTH Letterman and Leno, too. So, I think maybe we can give Lindsey the nod on that one.

I cannot imagine La Nicks opening for anyone after BD. I mean she guest starred with Petty and Dylan - but did not open for them. Though, if I could open for anyone, it would be Tina

But, I essentially agree with that. I was just noting that she did as well and she did a few years after OOTC. In the end, she has always sought the spotlight far more than CM or LB, though he does love it as well and just likes to IMO pretend he does not. And - her relentless pursuit of it has helped all of them maintain relevance in the musical world and that is on top of the great music she and they have done

Jason, I don't think that is what Glitterfades was referring to and you know it.

I was basing that on prior posts. But, if that is not what she meant, I stand corrected

. . . I believe, no matter how politically incorrect it is to say so on a public message board...that Stevie and Lindsey are madly in love, right now as we speak.

I agree on soooo many levels - but I think they know they are just not meant to be day in and day out

A never-was that she never would have had a career without, most definitely.

Who could say? And I mean it for both. The both have huge talent. They could have develop separate careers and meet one day at a Don Henley benefit with Stevie (or Lindsey) saying.. Hi, I think we must have been in the same high school. Who knows, life is strange.

Great great loves...everlasting... soulmate...undying loves... do exist, outside the pages of a fairytale, and I think that this is one of them.

Oh.....and what did all of that have to do with the discussion at hand? Not a damn thing...I just got on a roll and couldn't stop myself.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong... but I don't recall reading any article from the 70s, that discussed or even mentioned an affair between Mick and Stevie.

Don't recall reading any articles in the 80s, that discussed it in hindsight either.

Never heard a word of it until 1990.

Going back to this little ditty (damn, I hate when I get to these discussions so late!)... I don't think Lindsey learned of the affair from the gossip columns or the tabloids or Mick's book. I believe Mick told Lindsey after he and Stevie broke up - or while they were still together? Gah - can't remember that detail. But I seem to remember that Mick didn't want him to find out from someone else (like roadies) - and so he went over one night and came clean. And Lindsey wasn't happy - but understood. And at this point, Stevie hadn't been his girlfriend, like, five minutes ago, as stated above. Stevie had a few flings before Mick. And Lindsey had Carol Ann.

Anyone else remember hearing it this way?

Yeah, it was like that, according to the fifty million times I've watched "Stevie Nicks - Behind the Music"
by the way, if anyone wants a blow by blow memory transcription of that, including songs, I'm your girl!
Mick says: "So he didn't sort of find out through some road manager or something" (pops eyes)
Then Lindsey says, with resignation: "you know, it was just one more thing...our armors were pretty thick by then...I don't think anything that would've happened could shock me"
and sometime, Stevie says, tersely: "I loved Mick, and Mick loved me, and really, there were some..some very special moments...But we knew it couldn't work...THAT...would've broken up Fleetwood Mac...so we ended it." :wavey:

I didn't know when Lindsey found out about their affair, but did they break up because they wanted to save the band or did they break up because Mick dumped Stevie for her best friend? According to the Jim Ladd interview less than 2 months ago, she was completely heartbroken and felt betrayed that he dumped her. But according the BTM, it was mutual? I'm getting these threads mixed up now, but for the ones that said they saw Lindsey on opening night, why would Cory tell me, and apparently at least one other person, that he wasn't there? That would be a weird thing to lie about. Cory seems pretty straight up to me. So confused now.

Jason, once and for all stop saying I think LB is a bigger star than SN. I've never said it and I never will. He isn't, never has been, and never will be. Like Suzanne said, that's not my point. Since the discussion has drifted somewhat from the topic of the thread, and you like info based on quotes by or about Stevie, read this bit of discussion about BATB she talked about circa 1981 in RS. People will decide for themselves what that song really means. I usually don't know how to dig up the quotes many fans go by since I only know what my views are based on my memory as a longtime Mac fan, not as a SN fan who thinks her life started with her solo career. I never read this article from RS before today when I went looking for something she's said about the song before she started talking about Mick being the inspiration. Well, here it is. Strangely, as a less than devoted fan of hers, I feel I understand her songs better than a lot of people who think she's not a real person. Too many fans see her only as a rock goddess who makes troubled people feel better, or an icon whose lot in life is to be worshiped and defended by strangers. People who saw her performances in Vegas will likely see what I see in that song. Here's what she said in 1981:

Stevie says that her favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. She loved the fable as a child, but when she saw the Jean Cocteau film rendition in later years, her fascination was cemented. She'll recount her version of the yarn at the drop of a hat, claiming that, at the end of the fable, "Beauty became the Beast, and he became the beautiful one."

The story line, as Stevie tells it, concerns the plight of a sweet-natured woman named Beauty, the youngest of three otherwise repellent sisters, who volunteers to become a captive angel in the Beast's castle after her father incurs his wrath by plucking one of his prized roses. Beauty rides to her palatial prison on a magic white horse sent by the Beast and settles into a grotesque lifestyle wherein she spurns the affections of her gentlemanly captor, breaking his heart a little more each day with her increasingly cruel taunts in the face of his love.

When Beauty learns her father is dying, the Beast allows her to go to him, but warns that if she does not return by the seventh day, he will expire from despair. On the eighth day, she leaves her dead father and venal sisters and rushes back to the castle to find that the Beast is done for. In his last breath, he says that all a beast who loves her can do is die for her.

there are several more paragraphs to the article and then it ends with this last passage:

Sitting across from Stevie as she dries her eyes and slips back into here and now, I can think of only one appropriate question.

"In your version of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty finally understands that there are difficult choices to make in this world. Knowing her fate, if you were her, what would your decision have been?"

"I would have chosen the Beast," she says softly. "Absolutely."

Does anyone really believe Stevie sees Mick as a beautiful person after he dumped her for her friend and left her heartbroken? I'm sure that experience was somewhat of a wake-up call for her. She didn't fully realize what it meant to be on the receiving end of that traumatic experience until it happened to her. I also don't think the Mick affair was a first in that regard either, as her being the dumpee. For anyone who knows the story of BATB, without even reading this article, the heartbreak of the female character in the story comes from her realizing how badly she hurt somebody who deserved better than what her choices resulted in when she left him. They both suffered the consequences until it was almost too late to undo what had been done, in the fairy tale, anyway.

She didn't fully realize what it meant to be on the receiving end of that traumatic experience until it happened to her.

Because she was the one used to ending the relationships citing the excuse they couldn't deal with her being a rock and roll star and being away, etc. (a cop-out because she likes to sabotage her relationships for arts sake). Not that i'm saying some of them couldn't, but let's face it, generally the people she dated ran in the same circles as she did. They know the life. There is only one person that had an incredibly profound impact on her life in terms of relationships that openly could not deal with her being in the limelight...years before she decided to pen this song. The movie description, "....breaking his heart a little more each day with her increasingly cruel taunts in the face of his love. " It wasn't Mick. IMO, that's Lindsey for the fact that he was possesive AND wanted to be needed by her. They came into this together and he had to watch her succeed without him. He made her songs beautiful and when she went solo, he had to watch her do it on her own. I think there was a reason why this movie struck a cord with her and not necessarily because it's a beautiful story...because it's relatable. Just my .02

I agree - but my issue with all of your statements in this area are that LB somehow saved La Nicks with The Dance when in the relative context of it all, he needed her star power, not matter how faded then, more than she needed his. But, they BOTH needed FM then, but she still as a larger star brought more to the table really for them all - again she was, right or wrong, so synonomous with FM for so long that it just begs the question. AND - I know CM had the most hits, etc., but La Nicks was and is instantly recognizeable - albeit mostly because of FM. I will never think differently

On edit - La Nicks IMO has always needed LB on many levels and when he was not in her life in whatever way, she faded  But, the fact remains that as washed out as she was, she was still getting offers a la Twisted - which she ran to him for - thus the yin and the yang that is them

Really, in the end, why does this matter so much?

The reality is, we'll never know who would have made it and who wouldn't have had Mick and Fleetwood Mac not come calling. Some people think Lindsey was the talent behind BN, some think it was Stevie, some think both are equally talented. Who's to say someone wouldn't have heard Stevie singing one day and said, we want to sign you and only you. Who's to say Lindsey wouldn't have been invited to join a band that would be huge, and that they wouldn't have said, "the girl, too? No thanks."

If Fleetwood Mac hadn't come along, who knows what would have happened? not a single one of us.

Both Stevie and Lindsey are immensly talented. They have different and unique gifts; they clearly complement each other, and no one else complements either of them as well. Some would say Lindsey is better with Stevie, and Stevie is better with Lindsey. Some would say each is talented enough on his or her own. It all comes down to our own personal tastes. Some of us love Stevie's mysticism and romanticism. Some of us don't. Some of us love Lindsey's raw, powerful guitar, some of us don't. Some of us think he made Stevie's songs, some of us love her stark piano demos.

It's not a competition. In this world of millions of want-to-be stars, only a select few make it (and back in the 70s, it was actually based on a little thing called talent). They made it. They made it HUGE. Who cares who made who, or who's bigger? It's so irrelevent.

Does anyone really believe Stevie sees Mick as a beautiful person for dumping her for her friend and leaving her heartbroken? Kudo's....that is all I can say to you Glitter. I think I've said this to you once before somewhere else, that sometimes I question just what the heck I am doing...at 48 years old on a message board, reading about two people that yes, did have a part in the soundtrack of my life. But still, at the end of the day...really?

I am not good at keeping track of posts and threads and whatnot and quite frankly this board terrifies me, hence my 7 posts in almost two years...BUT I somehow feel the need to finish out this point I have felt compelled to make for the last few months and then I will slither away.

One of the most endearing things I have read over the last two years was from a poster just this week. I believe it was in the.... "Exchanges with Stevie thread" ...this person...forgive me... I don't remember if it was a man or a woman but whomever it was, was waiting with great enthusiam...for Stevie to make her way to them, during the EO17 walk, so that they could attempt to convey to her, in the 3 seconds of her time that they would receive, what she means to them. (The same thought I am quite certain running thru the mind of everyone standing alongside of them.) This person waited I am sure, with great anticipation and fear, we all know that in that moment, no matter how good our intentions may seem it nevers comes out the way you hear it in your head. This person finally was left with the simple and heartfelt expression of something along the lines of....Thank you Stevie....and I love you....I love you.... to which Stevie replied.... "I know." And I... in reading that....think for the first time I started to understand just what it was that I come back here looking for. Because in reading that response from her....I know that she gets it. I just hope that she knows that we do too.

I love Fleetwood Mac.... Rumours....takes me right back to beach the first time I fell in love at 19.....everytime I hear it. I get really pissed at Lindsey when he waxs on that the success of Rumours was based largely on the soap opera going on within the band. Bull****!! I had no idea who Lindsey Buckingham was or Stevie Nicks. I came to know them once I bought the album of course and read the liner notes and looked at the pretty pictures but beyond that....Nah. I didn't buy Cream magazine or Tiger Beat I just liked the music. We didnt have the internet or MTV...I kept buying their records but must admit. Once Lindsey left the band that was it for me as well. It just was not the same with out him. Bored yet? I know... me too so yada yada yada.....skip ahead 20 years ok 27 years....Christ I'm old....and I am walking thru the living room one day and my kids are watching MTV and like alot of you here.... I see Stevie.....little whirling blonde dervish that she is.... wailing on Lindsey during Silver Springs. I stop.. I look.... is that Stevie Nicks? And Lindsey? When did he come back....hmm. This was 2003 by the way...forgot to mention that. So to say I had missed the boat doesn't even begin to cover it. They had come back and left again.....while I was living in Redneck Heaven with my Garth Brooks/Nelly/Britney Spears....oh yeah and Linkin Park ...lovin husband and kids...(same guy I fell in love with at 19 to Rumours btw....for those of you keeping track.) .....mkay....so. I turn on the computer I never use, never even turn on and type in Fleetwood Mac. WELL....who knew. So I began to educate myself. I googled and I searched and I somehow wound up here!!!! Read all I could devour here and then made my way to other lands. The BN board...Burnish.....and all the other great boards. The dedication and care put into these things astounded me. I had no idea what the hell an avatar was or a message board. Along the way I read and read and read and bought every album any of them have done and wound up falling in love with them all over again...but I must admit she touched my soul. I don't diefy Stevie not one bit. I think the truth.... if we could even begin to imagine it....would curl our hair. But you know what... she doesn't expect us to. The thing I love about Stevie is there are no apologies. She made her bed.....slept in it and made it up in the morning. She would be the first one to tell you. Don't feel sorry for me. I've had a great life. She would also be the first one to tell us, and I really believe that they both would, that the arguments that get repeated ad nauseum on these boards are pointless. If we had all the real dirt and not what we assume is their life because we've managed to glean it from the 500 or so articles we have floating around, we would see a completely different story. I think that as glitter has said or as I interpret what I think she has said before that...all of it is true and none of it is true. Beauty and the Beast is about Mick because he is in the video from Red Rocks? No....he's in the video from Red Rocks because he went out on the road to round her ass up, and get her to come back into the studio for Tango so they could keep the cash cow, going. And I'm cool with that. This is a business. But can you even begin to imagine being held accountable for something you said or did 20 years ago. While you were coked out of your head in the middle of a world tour, when your best friend in the world was dying. Or when the love of your life is sitting across from you with her man of the moment beside her and all you want to do is die? No you can't. Because to us... they are Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham....multi-millionaire rock stars... who can't possibly have anything to complain about. Tragic smagic, you fly in lear jets to Paris for Dinner.....you live in a house overlooking the sea....get the hell over it right?

And we wrap it all up in neat little bows. Gypsy is about Robin. No hell it's not. Lindsey is the Gypsy she left behind. Landslide is about Lindsey.....duh! I'm with Nancy on this one...Ithink just about every song she has ever written is about Lindsey. Period. End of Story. He is the muse. He is he great love....he is the one she would have given up her whole damn career for. Joe Walsh??? Rupert??? Give me a friggin break. No way.

"Lindsey...Come...must be about Anne Heche right?" Because as all heterosexuals know.....gay people don't ....well you know....and to further cement it.....the part about putting God away, is a direct reference to what Anne said about God.....ummm...a year after you wrote the song? "Ummm, yes that's right." And Peacekeeper....."It's about the brutilzation of a love affair."....(the one I had with said Peacekeeper.) I know my argument is the classic shipper drivel....that you all abhor so much. But what I think I found in 2003, and have spent the last two years contemplating, is for one thing Stevie was right, in what she told Jim Ladd a few weeks ago....great tragedy does lead to great art. The reason her music, and his too for that matter, touches the depths of my soul is because, I can feel in my bones just what glitter posted in the last paragraph of that post. That the reality of it all is that Stevie knows she paid the ultimate price. It is the overlapping theme of most of her songs...."If I had my life to live over,I would never dream"...."I took the greatest fall, I can't accept her"....."Love is...knowing you won't let go, watching you go".....and on and on. So feel sorry for her? No....but do I believe with all of my heart that if she had it to do all over again that she would choose the Beast? Absolutley. Music is like oxygen to me....I respond to it more than any other medium or stimulus... save my children. I listen to the notes and the words and I treasure the singer songwriters the most, because we get to see inside their souls. The gift of their music, (SnL's and FM) to my life is immeasurable, as is the music of several other artists I treasure. But if I ever got the chance to stand at the side of the stage and take her hand for 3 seconds I would love to ask HER....Stevie are you happy?

The reason I am running on and on here, is I think I got my answer this week, in the pages of these threads. The Stevie Nicks I am reading about last week in Las Vegas, is alive again, vibrant, and at 57 years old more beautiful than ever. She is in love and in lust...and looking to me like. if she would have had a few more days to get the courage up, it would have all come spilling out of her all at once, instead of an ad lib here and a fade out lyric there. You guys lining the front row of that stage are her people. And I think she was trying to tell you something. And if you would take a few minutes to stop bitching about the set list and the tennis shoes and LISTEN.....you would have gotten the message. You guys love her..... It's why you pay $1000's of dollars at the drop of a hat to fly across the nation to see her. Now I ask you....would you do that for your Uncle Joe, if he broke his foot? Mmmm..Nope. I doubt it. I think..... and my Fifty bucks is riding on it....that she has gone back for the Beast and this time she is not going to let go. "I'vvvvvvvveeeeee Changed Baby!!!!".....and I think she's telling us good-bye....She's going back to the castle before he dies.

I hope that he will be able to convince her after a suitable rest this fall....that she needs to come out and give us the final chapter of their story....and make a boat load of money for that nice cooshy retirement home they will need. I know I will be spending all of my savings, to be at her feet every chance I get to watch it all go down. And I don't care if it's in the ugly cardigan and the frankenboks and she needs 15 back up singers to hit the high notes. I just want one more chance to see a smile on her face...... a peace come over his.....and to say thank you for the music.....and the people like Steph and Brit and Kelly and Angela and Kelly K.....friends I never would have met if not for them. Friends that I will treasure long after they are gone. I love Glitters posts and she is responsible for getting me riled up thru no fault of her own.....because I love that she stays true to the truth....not the fantasy....and yes.... I see the irony...no need to point it out. I live in the airey fairy castle right next door to Stevie I realize that. I don't care if Jason and Diss go fourteen rounds over who is the hak and who the crybaby. But I do care.....ALOT....that the 19 year old girl, or boy for that matter, that finds themselves inexplicably drawn to the saga of Stevie and Lindsey and makes their way to these boards, as they do every day, doesn't think that it is all just a cliche. That this type of love couldn't possibly exist. That is why I started the argument up with you again today Jason....Why not now?....Why not the day to day.....they have certainly weathered far worse. Yes, she did X to him, and he did Y to her....the greater lesson I hope is that it wasn't all for naught. Even 50 somethings can learn from their mistakes and you don't have to have all figured out by the time you're 25. Just strive every day to figure it out and make it right.

Aye Carumbah.....you guys...if you have hung in there with me you must just be ready to puke. I really am sorry and I thank you for letting me get this off my chest. I promise....this will be the last of my sickening tirades. I just wanted to put it out there for me...to just say thank you for the music....and that I get it and if it matters that one person does....I do. And it has meant more to me than words could ever say.

I don't agree that "Beauty And The Beast" is about Lindsey.
Nor do I really think that it's about Mick.

Someone can inspire a song, without said song being about them.
Maybe Mick was the guy who said, "Stevie, you love that movie so much -- why don't you write a song about it?"

Under those circumstances, it would be written "for" Mick, but not necessarily "about" him.

The rest, is up for interpretation.
And maybe, just maybe, it's about Lindsey AND Mick. AND Don Henley. AND some guy we don't even know (the guy up in Aspen, perhaps?).

Okay."

I know and agree - but it just bugs me when people imply that La Nicks would have been nothing - thus, the continued argument

I think so, too. Although, cripes, I think how well they sang together (and with miss Christine) is like, a million times contributory to their success. In my head, a lot of the props I give Lindsey are just for the fact of being able to sing harmonies so beautifully with someone with the likes of Stevie's strange voice...

I was discussing the time when The Dance rolled around. You know, the time when they needed each other to make money and possibly further their career.

This is also what I was talking about when I said he pulled her ass out of the fire in '97. He didn't need or want to get back into the band situation. You said you wouldn't do this for very long...FFG He did it because the record industry people knew FM was the draw and they wanted to cash in. They put the screws to him to do it and I'm sure Mick did so as well since SN admitted she would only do it if LB did it. LB did not need to do it for the money if we are to believe what Stevie says, (which I often do not...lol) He had no financial problems but I'm sure he wanted to get his music out and had to give the reunion consideration in order to do that. LB was using people like they all were, including Stevie, but she really needed the Dance to turn her career around for financial and personal reasons. IMO, he did pull her ass out of the fire and I think she knows it. People always assume because she's such a star her solo career brought her wealth and security, among other things such as personal happiness. In the mid 90's Stevie was in a lot of financial trouble. She was being sued for a few different matters and had IRS problems. No matter how many people are in love with her solo carrer, many won't ever believe she doesn't make money from it unless she shows her balance sheet, which she won't. People will also never believe her solo career hasn't brought her much happiness even with all her success, unless she says so herself, and she won't.

Cat, I agree with your post 100% and I do believe it's possible to see Stevie and Lindsey as equals in their contributions to a timeless band. Funny thing is, it seems as though Lindsey and Stevie have put their competitiveness on the shelf as far as their working relationship on SYW is concerned yes as fans, people are always pitting the two against each other.

Suzanne, I made it through your entire post (without puking  ) and all I have to say is, "at least i'm...trying to change..."

I agree to an extent - but it is your persistent unwillingness to admit that LB needed then just as much and without La Nicks - that reunion would have been dead in the water. She was and still is, right or wrong, the first thought of most when they think of FM, no matter the musical talent of LB or CM, or even more importantly the three/five  I guess I just think you think that La Nicks was lucky to get them when they were all in fact lucky then to get each other. Interestingly, CM probably was the most reluctant as witnessed by the US tour and then no more, despite the other four wanting to continue

I have not seen her balance sheet and neither have you, but to assume she was in trouble is a little naive. I mean maybe she dipped below 10 million - poor her

She was being sued for a few different matters and had IRS problems.

For a deduction of maybe a few thousand dollars for stage clothes and maybe $50,000 in legal fees all of which is deductible. I mean that seemingly is nothing in their world. So, I think that issue is a little moot

Strangely, as a less than devoted fan of hers, I feel I understand her songs better than a lot of people who think she's not a real person. Too many fans see her only as a rock goddess who makes troubled people feel better, or an icon whose lot in life is to be worshiped and defended by strangers.I personally think that one can be a devoted fan and keep things in perspective at the same time.

I see Stevie as a human being... as flawed and contradictory as the rest of us. That's part of my fascination with her, I guess... her ability to draw so many people in, and change lives, if you will... while still just being a person who screws up sometimes and make bad decisions, etc.

She's flawed and multi-dimensional, and, therefore, in my eyes she's endlessly fascinating.

But that's also the reason I give her a lot of slack... not because I think she's an "untouchable goddess," but because she IS human.
Look around at the comments made about her here on a daily basis... how she should dress, how she should sing, how she should write, who she should get to produce her albums, which songs she should do on stage... that's a lot for anyone to live up to. I know I certainly wouldn't want to even try.

For that, I give her a lot of credit... and why I try not to harp on it when she does something I'm not head over heels for.
No one can live up to our every expectation.

Why are you always telling me what I think? Where did I say he didn't need them, or even her? I said he didn't need to do the reuinion. I think he wanted to do it, jmho. You just can't deal with anything I say about Stevie needing his help like she doesn't want to admit she needs it either.

Through my own experience as a fan since the 70's, the average fan such as me who liked the band before her solo career, we're not all that captivated by Stevie or her witchy ways. That element is small compared to the millions of us who bought the records for the music. Hardly any of these fans are internet message board junkies unless they work on the computer like me, and fewer lifelong FM fans are interested in Stevie than you will ever accept unless I get them to take an online poll. Most Mac fans of hers before her solo career, especially straight males, don't follow her now because their fandom was based on diggin' her looks. They were attracted by her sex appeal. Many men think she's lost that, though I disagree. Those fans missed out by not being in Vegas last Wed. lol! Like the other lady who doesn't know why she's posting here, I often feel out of place being an old broad who got into the music for other reasons besides the drama. I never say LB is better or Stevie is not talented, but you always assume I am against her because I don't worship at the altar. Hey, don't I get any points for all my accolades about her stint in Vegas? :D

[EDIT]
BTW, not to sound like a know it all, but I do know more than I'd like to about her financial trouble. It was written about quite a bit in the 90's. Please don't tell me to get you quotes or look up articles. I showed you what she said about BATB and that's my fishing expedition for today. If you don't want to take my word for it, you can look it up yourself. I know - but you are talking about small potatoes (at most $500,000 and that is really pushing it) when FM GH sold like 5 million records which made her at least that and probably a lot more not counting Timespace which was essentially a reissue like all GH things  I guess I just have worked in the legal and accounting fields too long to think that someone on that level would flinch too hard at $500,000, at the way, way most, when she spent a million to make TOSOTM (based on the rental of the castle  )

Excellent, excellent post.

It's so funny that many people think that all fans of Stevie's are chiffon-head fruitcakes who see her as a flawless, untouchable goddess. We're not and she's not. I think many of us are rational, logical people, who admire her as an artist, but realize she is as human as the rest of us.

Sure, in fun, I mention things I don't care for (uh, Silver Girl, anyone? One more rendition of Dreams live?). But, hey man, I'm not perfect either. The sheer amount of music and words and happiness she has given me for the 18 years I have loved her far outweighs my minor disappointments. We're hardest on those we love. I think maybe it's just because we care so damned much.

Thanks for everything you said. I appreciate all your views. Please post more often so I don't have to. Sometimes it seems I'm the only one who sees things from an older fan's viewpoint. I think people in our generation who were fans while it was all happening are stunned that the drama's still going on, despite the fact we would have been buying the music all along, nonetheless. That alone makes me think there's more to the drama than I once thought, or ever cared about. I just hope it doesn't cost us music cuz I'm selfish about that. lol! I've always been PO'd that the drama has cost us good music rather than resulted in it, but I think that's a minority view. I've been on this board for a few years but only posted a lot since the SYW tour. It seems people who are fans from the 70's are out of place on the boards, but I try to pop in now and then to give my 2 cents from another viewpoint. Thanks for doing likewise.

I think she's telling us good-bye....

I agree with this thing you said above. Everything I saw in Vegas points in that direction, but I can't be the one to say so because I'll get my ass flamed for it. I'm not a true enough fan of her's according to people who get upset by my posts, although I feel I'm a bigger fan of her as a person, rather than as an icon, hence I never rush the stage or ask for her autograph even with many many opportunities given to do so.

I completely agree with Stevie "saying goodbye". Vegas was just one of the reasons I feel this way....Alot of things point in this direction...but I cannot bring it up here or I will be flamed! It is difficult to admit or accept that at some point Stevie may want to move on with her life and do different things. There will be replies along the lines of "this is what she loves to do" and "she needs the music, yada yada". "She said she was doing another album"....etc etc. Things change in peoples lives. Priorities change. Things that used to be important suddenly look less and less significant. Stevie has acknowledged having a difficult time with 9/11...perhaps she looked at her life and realized she had lots of people around her but felt lonely? Sometimes things need to be sacrificed to make things work. No one wants to admit or accept things about this solo tour that are so glaringly obvious. People still believe and will continue to believe that she is touring this summer because she wants to perform for her fans! I know she enjoys performing but she hates travelling and this tour is not about performing. Period.
For me, so much is about reading between the lines with Stevie.
She made alot of "statements" in Vegas for those who cared enough to listen. Instead, some focused on the inconsequential like the video screens or her Reeblecks or the Jim Ladd comments.

I agree and have heard about Stevie's financial issues in the 90's. Some won't accept it, no matter how true it may be. I mean she got royalty checks..that should take care of things..right? She signed a contract to do eight, I think eight, solo albums...so financially successful or whether she wanted to or not, she was obligated to. She did apparently "want" to do TISL but now? Look at Lori's most recent comments..look at the Greatest Hits debaucle for that answer.

I do not think BaTB is about Mick. It is about Stevie. Stevie was/is admitting to someone that perhaps she needs to change. The movie touched a nerve with Stevie because she saw parallels to what she was going through in her own life at that time. Was Mick the man who wanted her to change? Did Mick nearly die from grieving when SHE left HIM? (slightly dramatic Steves..but you get my point?) Mick was a convenient after thought. That Vegas performance was not for or about Mick..she was not "speaking" to Mick...... Throwing Mick into the mix years ago made it easier..nothing to explain, no awkward questions about why in 79/80/81 she was having these feelings. Apparently it worked as many of you still think that song was written about her feelings for Mick. That is cool as I think Stevie was aiming for a certain portion of her fans in Vegas anyway.

As difficult as it will be to say goodbye to Stevie someday, I want her to find peace and happiness, something she really never has. I want her to have someone who loves her to grow old with. Her entourage, Karen, Cory, Sheryl, Chris, Lori, etc...will not fulfill her as she lives out her life. Those people earn a living through Stevie..she is an entity to some of them. I know what I have heard and I know what I feel in my heart and soul and something is different with Stevie. She was one sexy, hot Mama on Wednesday night and I saw true bliss in her eyes. It was not for the fans groveling at her feet.

"There is no Beauty.....Without my Beast!"
 Excellent Post...and I being in the same era as you thank you for conveying what i can not..As a teen in the 70's also I can so relate...

Again, agreeing. Without a doubt, IMO, I think Vegas is her final stop--it's where she'll spend the rest of her years as a performing artist. I don't anticipate new material from her. It's always been about reading between the lines but I feel as though now, we don't have to do that as much anymore. The Jim Ladd interview was a side of her we've never seen before. Stevie that was much more open and direct than she has ever been. I was more amped about that than her promises of boas, theatrics and new songs. It seems to me like the Stevie that thought she couldn't have it all has a new lease on life.

I've been a fan since BellaDonna came out & my first concert was the wild heart tour. I've collected many, many interviews since 1981 and I remember Stevie mentioning several times that Beauty & the Beast was inspired by the French film, but is about her relationship with Mick. That's why she included the strange slow motion clips of Mick during "Beauty" on the Red Rocks video back in the late 80's. During Saturday's show, when she came out to perform "Beauty", I looked at my friend and we thought, "oh, ****, Mick is in the audience. I wonder if she'll sing it to him?"

So, then, while Stevie was a has been, Lindsey was a "never was"? And I disagree that Stevie was "just as washed up". She still had way more fans and name recognition. :woohoo:

Lindsey Buckhingham is to Stevie Nicks what Hershey's is to Godiva. They are both desirlable but one is far superior in taste and quality. I just made that up but it sounds about right :p

Another seven months, and I'll be marking my 20th year as a Stevie/Mac fan.
I remember feeling in the mid-90s that it was all pretty much over. Their best years were behind them, a Fleetwood Mac with Stevie & Lindsey would never exist again, and an official announcement about retirement seemed to be just around the corner.

'The Dance,' 'Trouble In Shangri-La,' 'Say You Will'... they've all felt like gifts since then, because I never expected any of those albums and tours to happen.

Yeah, I do think Stevie's probably gearing up to retire from the road. I'm not one of those people who thinks it would be a horrible thing though. And I'm also not someone who thinks that would spell the end of any new recordings.

Even if she takes up a residency in Vegas, rotating with Elton as Celine's fill-in, I can see her recording and releasing an album now and then.
I highly doubt they'd be supported by any major tours, or massive media blitzes, but I do think she'd want some outlet for the new songs she'll probably write in the future, and the archived songs that still haven't seen the light of day.

Life is full of endings and new beginnings, and perhaps Stevie's on the cusp of a new beginning.

Ok I refuse to believe that the end of Stevie's career is going to be a lounge act in Vegas. Please don't even say that lol. What is she going to follow in the footsteps of Wayne Newton and Tom Jones? I think not...I know there's not a lot of respect for Celine Dion out there, but I think what she and Elton are doing in Vegas is more than just a seedy little lounge act.

They're putting on exciting, over-the-top extravaganzas. Actually, Elton's been doing that for years... now he's just doing it in one location.

I don't think a residency in Vegas, filling in for Celine and Elton, would be a sad or embarassing thing for Stevie. I think it would be a cool way for her to continue performing, but with far less stress and travel.

I also think that, if Stevie gets the opportunity to do more than just four gigs there, that her show will become something bigger and perhaps a little more along the lines of the ideas she spit-balled during the Jim Ladd interview. I can't help but think many of those things just wouldn't have made financial sense for a measly four shows... but on a continuing and recurring basis, she could do them.

Maybe they (Stevie and her people, and the Caesar's people) were testing the waters to see what kind of interest there would be for her playing Vegas, and then they'll go from there.

Okay, how did this thread turn into a collection of theories about the end of Stevie's career? I just refuse to believe that that Vegas and this supposed Gold Dust tour is her swan song! It makes me want to cry. Could someone explain their theories as to why she will no longer be recording or touring? Just because she had "bliss" in her eyes in Vegas? How is Stevie being a good performer or looking happy in Vegas a clue that she is at the end of her career? How does this seem like a huge turning point? Just because Lori says there is no new album in the works? That really doesn't mean anything because it has been less then a year since she took a hiatus from Fleetwood Mac. Does she normally go straight from touring to recording a new album? I am just very upset by some of these comments. I enjoy reading them and hearing everyones thoughts but I would love to know why people think this is the end.

This is juat a thought but maybe the reason she seemed like a new woman in Vegas and the reason people are getting a different vibe from her is because she is finally through with menopause. I know I am grasping at straws here but you never know!

My comments were not meant to upset anyone and no, the bliss in her eyes is not the reason I feel what I do. I think it is obvious that Stevie is tiring of travelling..the Vegas gigs are something she said she wanted to do until she became a little ole lady. There is no new album in the works according to Lori....etc. IMHO it is unrealistic to expect her to be fulfilled through making albums and touring indefinately. Many people commented on her lack of motivation at certain SYW shows...at many she really did not seem all that happy. I combine these things with other things I have heard. Do you see her out supporting the GH album? An artist who had a vested interest in an album released under their name might want to show some interest in promoting it. Unless..there are conflicts perhaps? I dont know.. maybe she will change her mind..maybe nothing I say has any merit. Only time will tell.

(btw..YES..STevie WAS saying she was going right off the road to begin another album last summer. Jessica Nicks told me that exact thing at the Camden show..that was Stevie's answer on the Nicksfix at that time....however..slowly the answers have changed and we have been told by someone who works on her albums with her that none are planned at this time)

I'm totally with you. I don't know how people got the idea from Vegas that this is the end of the road for her. She has said nothing to indicate to us that her career is coming to a close and I'm correct she has said in countless interviews over the years she will be doing this until she can't walk anymore. This is what she lives and breathes for. She is married to it and you don't just dump your mate when you get older lol.

That is strange that she dumped all plans for a new album. But I seriously do not think her vacation from the studio is for the rest of her life! She really was only off the road for six months and then she started making plans to do Vegas and tour with Henely. I believe that as soon as she wraps things up this summer with this Gold Dust tour she will start work on a new album. Her voice is better then ever and she has dozens of wonderful demos- she hardly has to lift a finger! She just needs to pen a few new songs, get a band, a belt out the tracks in the studio. Has she mentioned writting any new songs recently? I assume she wrote stuff while on tour for SYW but did Stevie ever confirm this?

Retiring from the road doesn't have to spell the end of someone's career, unless they want it to.
I personally think Stevie will continue to record. With what frequency, I have no idea, but I do think she will.

I also think she'll continue to perform, but she'll either do so in one location (Ceasar's, for example) or in limited engagements someplace like the Hard Rock Cafe.

This is juat a thought but maybe the reason she seemed like a new woman in Vegas and the reason people are getting a different vibe from her is because she is finally through with menopause. I know I am grasping at straws here but you never know! That's a very valid theory, too, actually.
It's no secret that she was going through a tough time physically during the 'Say You Will' tour, with her hip problems and struggling with menopause. The 'TISL' tour was also plagued with health problems.
If she is feeling better now... and she certainly seems to be... perhaps she wants to demonstrate that she hasn't "lost it."

Either way, she is rapidly approaching 60, and she's going to want to slow down, I'm sure.
But that's nothing for you to be devastated about. I feel confident we'll still get new music from her in the future.

I think she may do some venues in larger cities and then Vegas. I hate to see the end and hope I am wrong. But, at some point she will want to slow it down - while she showed NO sign of that in Vegas - in fact she showed that she is one ROCKIN 56 almost 57 year old woman SHEEBUS - I will respect her decision when she makes it

Perhaps she's ready for something more than her music? I'm not saying it hasn't been fulfilling because lord knows, i'm sure it has been or she wouldn't have kept it up for as many years as she has. Maybe...just maybe...it's not enough anymore and perhaps, in her late 50s she's come to the realization that she can allow herself to depend something other than her songs. They may be forever immortalized on paper but other than getting risiduals from said songs and things, what's she going to do when she is 70? It's easy to write things in a journal and romanticize the pain, the hurt, the longing, etc. over and over again but I think for Stevie, it's always been difficult for her to allow herself the pleasure of depending on someone else in life and in love. There's only so much her music can give her. Just a thought...

Just curious how die-hard fans would react if she wanted to stop touring or investing in her solo career as a full-time job.

True, but I can't see her quitting her job and joing an online dating service! I think she sees what Lindsey and Mick have and she wants that. Actually, I think she is very much still in love with Lindsey. Whether he has feelings about her is a moot point because he won't act on them. He is married and has children with another woman. The love of Stevie's life is so close yet has never been further away. It is kind of sad. At this point, she sort of has to depend on her music like a husband. Who else is she going to depend on? It is sad to think about but it is very hard for a person to turn over a new leaf at her age and get back in the dating world. Especially when she is still writting songs about a certain someone who has already built a family that doesn't include her.

So she very recently said that she would be doing a "Rhiannon" album of sorts? I think if her first single was a remake of the original Rhiannon then this album could sell very well. Everyone loves that song so it could be as popular as the dance if she redid the original song and named the album simply, "Rhiannon".

The whole theory of her leaving the music business doesn't hold water. Look at it like this, if age wasn't an issue, would anyone think this was the end? Let's say she was 40 right now. You'd never think this was the end because in the last few years she has been touring more then ever and in the last five years came out with two successful albums (one with her band, one without). So, it doesn't make sense that because someone has been touring and performing more often then ever, it implies that this is the end. SYW was the largest tour in FM history, right? I don't expect them to ever tour like that again! But I do anticipate more albums, each one followed by a couple months of touring. Obviously, Stevie will do what she wants. I am just saying that age is just a number. :woohoo:

I want to say something here...with all this speculation about this being the end of her career the most important thing to me is that Stevie find happiness/peace/serenity in her life. Whatever that means to HER is what I want. Of course I want her to tour and make music forever but I would also love for her to find someone to spend her older years with IF that is what makes her happy. But then again who is to say that she needs another person to fulfill her? I want her to have whatever it is to that completely fills that Wild Heart of hers and I mean that in the most selfless way...I hope that when she looks back on her life she says "I have truly accompished everything I wanted to in this lifetime and would not have had things be any different". That is what I want for our Stevie.

Whatever she wants. Not because I consider her a goddess, I would really be a strange kind of agnostic in that case, but because my admiration can't be linked to her doing what I want. Obviously as all the fans I also have expectations but at the end, she doesn't owe me anything. I buy her records, etc and get back incredibly deep emotions. I can follow her or not on the path she takes, but If one day I felt betrayed because she didn't act as I wanted it would be the sign I'd need to rediscover what is real and what is not. JMO

I know a lot of people are agreeing with you and so I feel stupid because I don't know what you're saying. Stevie didn't tour for her fans? For money? Because she loves it? What is the reason she did Vegas then? I also disagree that this is the end of her writing new songs and possibly making another cd. Why do you think something like the Jim Ladd interview was inconsequential? How can we determine which interviews actually mean something and which are inconsequential?

I might be the only one but I'm going to say right now that I don't think there's some stange, lying conspiracy going on with Fleetwood Mac. If Cory told me and others that no one from the band were at the shows, I'm going to believe her. If Stevie says that BATB is about or for Mick just 2 months ago and backed it up years ago in liner notes, then I'm going to believe her. Plus, the lyrics so fit. I also think that if Mick and Stevie say there might be another Mac tour, even though Don Henley says they threw in the towel, I'm going to be more likely to believe them over him. Does anyone else lie in this group?

I was at Tuesday's show and saw Stevie sparkle and glow. She was brilliant, as usual. I took the time to pay attention and what I saw was a beautiful performer who seemed so happy to be playing to her fans and to have Lori there with her this time. I don't know what you were priviledged to see that the rest of us didn't. Are we the stupid fans because we don't think Fleetwood Mac members are a bunch of deceptive, lying idiots? Personally, BATB could be about her dogs and I'd still love it. I don't care who the song is for, but I refuse to call her a liar for whatever reason some people are. I also refuse to call Cory a liar because I talked to her a few times at the SYW shows I went to and she's really down to earth and very cool. Calling her or Stevie a liar is insulting.

Sorry, I don't understand what you posted. :sorry:

So, it doesn't make sense that because someone has been touring and performing more often then ever, it implies that this is the end. SYW was the largest tour in FM history, right? I don't expect them to ever tour like that again! But I do anticipate more albums, each one followed by a couple months of touring. Obviously, Stevie will do what she wants. I am just saying that age is just a number. :woohoo:

Of course it makes sense! If you're about to retire, you're going to want to milk the cow tits for everything they've got before doing so.

I think Stevie has a bit more touring in her, but that's about it. Probably an annual Vegas gig, though, too. I don't foresee a new album at all, nor do I foresee a new Fleetwood Mac album. Lori has said that a new album is not on the agenda, so how is Stevie going to keep going on the road? She's oversaturated the market so badly in the last few years and this new "Gold Dust Tour" is going to make the oversaturation even worse. So, let's say she tours throughout the rest of the year and then decides to record a new album. That'll take three years at least and she'll be 60 by the time it comes out. With her health problems and the way she's been getting sick so badly for the past few years, I doubt she's going to want to go touring the sheds to support an album when she's in her sixties. We can say age is nothing but a number, but that's simply not true in her case. She's not Tina Turner and she's not Mick Jagger.

There better be one more goddamn album from her/them. I want to hear veiled musical accounts of the saga that was the SYW tour!

I know there's not a lot of respect for Celine Dion out there, but I think what she and Elton are doing in Vegas is more than just a seedy little lounge act.

To me, Vegas is simply not the place for Stevie; it's not a good fit. Stevie isn't capable of putting on over-the-top extravaganzas of music and entertainment, Celine and Elton are. Vegas is a good fit for Celine and Elton, and other performers like Cher and Bette. They all have the energy to do balls-to-the-wall performances night after night and have incredible stamina; they can shake and shimmy and tramp about the stage or pound on the piano like a madman and howl with the best of them. Stevie, in my opinion, is too understated for Vegas.

One more album? One more album??? I don't want one more album... I want things to stay the same. It is so unfair that I just discovered Stevie a few years ago and the minute I find this good thing it gets taken away (or at least that is what people assume will happen within the next few years).

I am still not giving in to this last album/no album ****. Stevie has enough good demos to have five new albums come out without even having to write any new material.

I don't think that was her last, either, despite what people are saying. But I only really care about having at least one more, specifically for the purpose earlier stated....

Too bad she couldn't open a club or something and perform there on the weekends. You know, like a very nice nightclub, let's call is The Rhiannon! LOL Nothing sleazy, but just a place where she could perform once a week and a place where her fans could hear her sing. Where she could play the piano and try new songs, etc. Just a small club that she could open anywhere... Pheonix, New York, LA, Miami... I just think that would suit her in a way. And a way for her to tone things down by just playing for a few hundred people- not thousands of people a night!

Hey, that's kind of a good idea! Although, now that I'm thinking about it out of the fantasy land that is my brain...well...maybe...But, Stevie? Casual? Plus, you know it would be packed with crazed Stevie heads a bunch of the time...me, for instance...so I don't think too small would cut it...

Stevie, in my opinion, is too understated for Vegas.Oh, I don't really disagree with that. I'm just thinking that if it's a residency she's looking for, I'm not really sure where else she could do that.
Maybe she could take a nod from Saturday Night Live, start her own restaurant, and then perform there on weekends.

Ironically, she's often been considered too "over the top" by her bandmates and even by many in the music-buying public (sometimes even by her own fans)... and, yet, she's not quite over-the-top enough for Vegas.

Having said that, I think she could pull off a more Vegas-type show... but I can't imagine it ever being quite like Cirque de Celine.

God, no kidding, eh?

I don't think we've seen the last album from Stevie - or from Fleetwood mac, for that matter. I think when it's their last, we'll know it. They'll tell us. They'll warn us. They'll do the grand Farewell Tour. I just feel in my bones that they're not done yet.
