I suppose somewhere down the line this has already been done, but I wanted to ask which FM/solo CDs everyone still has to get. (Or which ones you still want). I still have quite a list, but I'd say it's not a surprise considering I became a fan around the fall of 2003.
FM
Kiln House
Behind the Mask
English Rose
Penguin
Future Games
Landslide (single)
Live at the BBC
Jumping at Shadows: The Blues Years
Lindsey
Out of the Cradle
Law and Order
Go Insane
Chris
Christine McVie
Christine Perfect (if they'd re-release the thing!!!)
Danny
Ram Jam City

Oh, I know I would. Plus, fireflies is on that. I don't know why I haven't gotten it before, it's totally at the top of my list, now. I only bought 3 CD's last year, so I'm not real quick on the uptake... :)

I don't have anything PRE Bob Welch. I have everything Bob forward, except any Stevie solo stuff after TOSOTM. That album was a pile of poop, and I jumped off her wagon.

Uh... I haven't got Live 1980, or The Dance  but hey... I don't have any Stevie, Chris (except 'Christine Perfect') or Lindsey solo albums either, but I do have pretty much everything else including all Peter, Danny and Jeremy's solo stuff. I just bought 'Buckingham Nicks' which is my latest acquisition

I have everything released since 1975, except Time for Fleetwood Mac. I have a few vinyl albums prior to 75. Solo stuff I need to get Christine Perfect and LB's Law and Order, which I only have on vinyl.
Hillary...I strongly recommend you purchase Out of the Cradle next. I know you are a big Stevie fan but this album is really incredible. I don't believe there is a song on it that I do not like. Pure perfection. (if he ever would have released GoS, I think that would be my personal solo favorite because his writing has grown so much)

Out of the Cradle is next on my list! I have it on my Amazon wish list. I haven't put all of those CDs mentioned above on my Amazon wish list becuase I think that would make me look like I want too much stuff. But I put Out of the Cradle on there. I've decided that I want it to be my next FM-related purchase. I've heard a couple of the songs and I know I want the whole thing. Hearing the mp3s of his GOS stuff that's floating around has really made me into more of a fan than I was before. So I'm with ya and thanks for thinking of me! :)

I don't have any pre-Welch stuff. No Christine Perfect, either.
I think OOTC is a great choice for your next purchase. I'd have to add Behind the Mask too, though. It's an underrated album, IMO. Rick and Billy weren't Lindsey, for sure, but they are much better than some people make them out to be. And some of Chris' best material ever is on that album.
I suppose somewhere down the line this has already been done, but I wanted to ask which FM/solo CDs everyone still has to get. (Or which ones you still want). I still have quite a list, but I'd say it's not a surprise considering I became a fan around the fall of 2003.
I became a fan in the summer of 1997, and I think I feel pretty complete in my Mac collection for now. I don't expect I'll be buying anymore Mac or related albums unless new ones are released.
But I've got all the albums except for English Rose, which isn't necessary. All of Stevie's solo stuff, all of Lindsey's. Don't have In the Meantime, actually, but I don't really feel compelled to buy it. But I do have Chris' 1984 album, and her first one on vinyl somewhere. Then I've got Danny's Ram Jam City, Welch's French Kiss, Weston's There's a Heaven, and for Peter: the Green & Guitar compilation, Soho Session, and Destiny Road. And then Live in Boston, the two Vaudeville Years sets, London '69, Shrine '69... and then various bootlegs (including Buckingham Nicks, of course) and that's it, I think.
I don't really have much desire to delve any further into anybody's solo career, except maybe Peter's at some point. So I think I'm done. Cutting myself off! I think I've had enough!

I personally think that TISL is a lot better than TOSOTM, but that's JMHO. I think it would be worth getting that one. What was it that you disliked most about TOSOTM? The production?
I think the songs and production were sub-par. If you look at the quality of her albums, IMO, they went straight downhill.
BD- a masterpiece
WH- a darned good album
RAL- uh, it's okay. Nothing to write home about.
TOSOTM- Nothing really stand out here. It feels like I'm on a sinking ship. I got on the nearest lifeboat, and didn't look back. I think alot of artists can learn from TOSOTM. You can cost yourself considerable fanbase by putting out an album that's not up to snuff.
So, at this time, I pretty much had drifted out of my FM obsession, because they weren't doing much either. The Dance started to reel me back in. But, I now realize that The Ledge has made me the FAN I used to be. SYW is okay, but, IMO, it's just not FM without Christine. It doesn't SOUND like FM without Christine.

And what about her Time offerings? I don't have BTM yet, but I'm a huge fan of "I Do" from Time. And this is just me (well, not just me...but not everyone, I guess is what I mean), but I really like some of what TOSOTM has to offer, particularly "Rooms on Fire," "Ooh My Love," "Whole Lotta Trouble," "Fire Burning" and "Juliet," but none of those would be on my all-time favorite Stevie songs list. (The "Juliet" outtake would probably make it, though). To me, none of those songs are really up to par with the songs off the first two albums or TISL. Which reminds me that you didn't address what I said about TISL. ;) Many of the songs I love on TISL are re-recordings of older demos, so that definitely contributes to why I put it up there with her first two albums. Another question...what do you think about Rick and Billy? They don't interest you at all?
And about SYW minus Christine. I hate that myself for lots of reasons. (I don't hate the album, just the fact that Christine's not on it). I think there could have been some great three-part harmonies on that particular album with those three that would've made it stronger, and I think Christine's voice is the best it's ever been. I'd love to hear it with the others more. Good thing she at least put out a solo album. BUT, I wouldn't ever say it's not FM without Christine because there was FM before Christine even came into the picture. And I'm a fan of pre-Chris FM, too.

In all honesty, I think Fleetwood Mac is Fleetwood Mac so long as Mick and John are there. Even Time is Fleetwood Mac. They are the only two who have soldiered on through all the incarnations.
I think OSOTM is far superior to RAL and SA, but it in no way showcases her true capabilities. Of her solo albums, only BD and WH accomplish that. TISL has flashes of brilliance, but widely misses the mark in others.

I got every official FM-albumrelease (except some compilations of **** i already have) since 68. In the solosphere I'm not complete in danny's work, I miss some of Peter's but stevie and lindsey are complete. Only Time and In the meantime I refused. Because i can't stand them. Can't stand Street Angel either, but i still got it.

It may not be the Fleetwood Mac people want, depending on who else might be included, but it's still FM.
And I also agree that there are really only flashes or Stevie's brilliance on TISL. Not all of the songs are really strong, but for the ones that are, I put it up there with the first two albums. I haven't really decided if I think TOSOTM is superior to RAL yet. I'm really a bigger fan of "Talk to Me" than I am of any of the individual songs on TOSOTM, but that's me and my weird fixation with that song.

I don't have any pre or post Rumours members solo albums or Time either.

I enjoy their contributions on BTM. Something is missing on there though. I guess it must be Lindsey's production skills.Which reminds me that you didn't address what I said about TISL.

I have all of the solo releases for Stevie, Christine and Lindsey (including Buckingham Nicks), as well as a few Bob Welch CDs, Mick's 'Shakin' The Cage,' Bekka & Billy's CD, and Rick's first solo disc and a few random mp3s of his other material (those albums are all still high on my priority list), and one of Dave Mason's CDs.

I have everything post-1975 of FM, Lindsey solo, and Stevie solo, even the Landslide single, the Best Buy CD, and "Word and Music." I am quite obsessive.
I've wanted to purchase the pre-1975 stuff for a while now, but I'm waiting for the reissues. I really like everything I've heard on "The Chain" box set though.
I don't have "Christine Perfect" but that's pretty hard to find. I have her other albums.
I don't have the Zoo album of Mick's. I actually have Mick's "The Visitor." I bought it before AHI so he'd have something to sign, since I only had a BN album and didn't want him touching that, lol. I wanted to buy The BluesBreakers for John to sign but it cost $100!!!!
I have Rick Vito's "King of Hearts" but none of his later albums.
I have Bob Welch's "Frech Kiss" and "Three Hearts" but none of his other albums.
I do not own any of the other members of Fleetwood Mac's solo albums.
There you have it!
In all honesty, I think Fleetwood Mac is Fleetwood Mac so long as Mick and John are there.
I love this definition of Fleetwood Mac, but it makes for some really fun additions to the catalogue.
"Werewolves of London" is definitely up there on my list of favorite Fleetwood Mac songs...
Anybody know any other non-Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac songs?
I have pretty much every album that I want. I have all Fleetwood Mac albums from the Blue Horizon days to SYW. I don't have the Live In Boston CD/DVD thing, but I'm not interested in getting it anyway.

There isn't a whole lot left for me to buy that I actually want. I have pretty much everything from the Rumour's era lineup including both versions of SYW and the FM, Rumours, and Tusk re-releases. I have Time, Behind the Mask, The Chain box set, The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac, The Fleetwood Mac Family Album, Bare Trees, Future Games, Mystery to Me, Shrine 69, Heroes are Hard to Find, The Fleetwood Mac Collection, and The Blue Horizons box set. I have Buckingham Nicks, Law and Order, Go Insane, Out of the Cradle and everything by Stevie from Bella Donna to Trouble in Shangri-La, including Enchanted. I have all three Christine McVie albums. I have John McVie's Gotta Band, Bob Welch's Greatest Hits, Danny Kirwin's Ram Jam City, Rick Vito's King of Hearts, several Billy Burnette solo albums, Bekka and Billy and Bekka's What's In It For Me?. (And, of course, an unkown amount of demos and bootlegs from the band and from the members as solo artists.)
So what does that leave? Well, off the top of my head the only thing left that I actually want is Then Play On. Other than that, I'm pretty much set until something new comes out.
P.S.
And of course, I have all Walter Egan albums (solo and otherwise) whether they include members of FM or not, all Tom Petty albums, several Warren Zevon albums, several John Stewart albums, several from the Kingston Trio, Brian Wilson's self titled solo album, Eric Clapton's Behind the Sun (even though you wouldn't know Lindsey was on it were it not for the liner notes), and that piece of crap Danny Douma album.
When the the three Rumours-era albums were reissued, they said that eventually the entire catalog would be reissued. I eagerly await it!
I see... Well... Good luck with that.
(Seriously, you're missing out on some really wonderful music in the decade-plus interim. None of those albums should cost you more than $11.99 anywhere, and they're even less at a lot of places. It's really worth the cost to have that music now. Do you honestly believe that they're going to reissue the pre-1975 catalogue anytime in the next ten years? I mean, I'd love it if you're right. But this is Fleetwood Mac we're talking about.)
(What we really need is a big Mac fan in the upper echelons of power at Rhino Records. Look what happened when they had an Elvis Costello fan running the ship.)

Stevie's stuff is what got me into the band originally as well - oh that "Silver Springs" video. Though I didn't swear off earlier incarnations, I don't think I was really aware of them. Although I kept seeing these albums on the rack that I didn't recognize... and one of them had this big monkey on it... and once I had all the BN-era stuff, how could I not buy that album with the big monkey on it? Anything with a cover like that HAS to be good. And of course it's wonderful (and contains my favorite Mac song in "Why")! And I went from there with the Welch-era stuff.
Then the Boston Tea Party discs came out, and Borders had the second one featured on one of their listening stations. I took a listen to "Oh Well," since I liked the 1980 version... and whoa. Sold.

I do have John Stewart's Bombs away Dream Babies... and much of what Lindsey and Stevie did with Walter Egan.
FM-wise, I have everything from Buckingham Nicks on (which I sort of count)... except for Time. I didn't hold Behind the Mask against them.

As for Mayall, really, there are only two albums that really matter: the "Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton" album and "A Hard Road," which every Mac collector should have, as it was the first album that had two members of Fleetwood Mac AND it had one song called "Leaping Christine" and another called "The Supernatural" (talk about an omen :D ). Also, I don't have a lot of soundtracks. Yeah, it would be nice to get that one song, but I really can't justify spending $10+ for ONE song.

I, too, really admire Bekka's talents. I loved her contributions to Time and Bekka and Billy. I also much enjoyed her backing vocals for Jonny Lang, but I gotta warn ya, I was VERY disappointed with What's In It For Me?
The production quality is, to put it gently, sub-par. Her vocals sound weak (if you can believe it) as do the instruments and overall sound. :sorry:

Good luck with the Bob Weston albums  Never even seen them :distress:
Just a note to those who dissed Jeremy Spencer and his solo stuff :distress: His first album was basically a Mac album and his other two were nothing like his Mac stuff at all. Parts of "Flee" could have been passed off as the Rumours line-up and few would have noticed. Give Jeremy a break! :wavey:

It's just that when I went back and bought all of the pre-Buckingham & Nicks albums, I got burned out on one too many "Jeremy does Elmore James" sound-alike tunes... so that's why I haven't been interested in delving into his solo material.

"Old Crest" has a few good songs (one written by Stevie's ex, Les Dudek). Some Assembly is only interesting as it was the last album he did with Jim Krueger (who wrote "We Just Disagree" for those not in the know). In fact, I really only like one song on the album, "Fools Gold." But both of these albums are pretty forgettable.

Yeah, I totally understand that, and what Johnny Stew said - his Mac output was a bit limited sometimes for sure, and it puts a lot of people off - me included to start with. But when I picked up the "Flee" album I was pretty surprised - nowhere near Elmore James, Buddy Holly or Elvis! It's not perfect by any means, but it is different to his Mac stuff.
The other post-Mac solo album that Jeremy did was "Jeremy Spencer & The Children" which was religious rock, drawing on many contemporary 70s influences (not 50s rock 'n' roll!) - parts of it sound a bit like Mac circa '71-'72, particularly some Kirwan-esque guitar. If you don't mind the religious/spiritual lyrics, give it a try :blob2:
There's a live album also, recorded much more recently, but I've never heard it

I love it, and it stays in pretty heavy rotation in my portable CD player.
I've heard MOST of it and I really like it...ESPECIALLY his version of "Oh Well" (although I could do without the "washing machine" effect on the guitar). "Like Rain" is wonderful...I hope his next album is an "all-new music" affair.
And to all those who are hesitant to seek out Jeremy Spencer's post-Mac albums because of his Elmore James obsession during his FMac tenure, take the plunge...there's not an Elmore James riff to be found on the two studio albums. And, yes, side two of Flee sounds like Rumours-era outtakes. The title cut could've been a Christine McVie tune, "Cool Breeze" sounds like a Stevie Nicks tune (ala "Dreams"), "You've Got The Right" is right out of Lindsey's songbook, "Travelling" is another Christine-type tune.
Also, with only a couple of exceptions, the lyrical content of Jeremy Spencer & The Children is NOT all that blatantly "Born Again Christian" bop you over the head type lyrics...maybe they seemed that way in 1972, but in 2005, they're less obvious than I remember them being. "War Horse", "Joan Of Arc", "Let's Get On The Ball", "Can You Hear The Song?" are worth the price of the album alone. The album has a real Jefferson Airplane meets CSNY meets Bare Trees era FMac type feel.

People! Have we been following the same band all these years? I don't understand where this kind of naivete possibly comes from. This is Fleetwood Mac we're talking about. *If* any of the pre-1975 albums are ever remastered or reissued, it ain't going to be anytime soon. Hell, I'll be very surprised if we see Mirage or Tango reissued before the decade is out. These kinds of projects just don't seem to be of very much import to the band (or, perhaps more accurately, to Mick or John). And in the meantime, you're missing out on some incredible music. Yep...I held out as long as I could (due to lack of funds) to get the three remasters...I had the original CDs, so I found a store that buys back used CDs (or gives store credit) ...so I basically traded in the old CDs for the new ones...sure I had to drop a few $'s in on the deal too, but actually, for the price of buying ONE remaster, I got all three. Since it really looks like the rest of the catalogue isn't going to be released all that soon, you can pick up the pre-BN era Mac albums usually for under $10 apiece. When/if they're re-released, trade 'em in for the remastered ones.

I really don't like Mirage. I think Stevie's songs are awesome, but Lindsey and Christine were very unispired, as if a lot of their songs were just album filler. While I like some of their songs, overall, the album just doesn't do it for me. The album, to me, sounds forced, as if nobody really wanted to be there.
Time was a very disjointed album, to say the least. But, there are a lot more gems for me than what was on Mirage. I will say that Dave Mason's stuff did little for me (which is a shame, as I'm a huge fan of Dave's). Christine, Bekka, and Billy more than save the album. Chris had three of her most honest songs (Hollywood, I Do, All Over Again), Bekka had three great songs (Winds Of Change, Nothing Without You, Dreamin' The Dream -a song that still gives me gooseflesh), and Billy had one of the best Mac tunes ever (Talkin' To My Heart), as well as another great song (I Got It In For You). Hell, I even liked Mick's song. It was a little on the Pink Floyd side, but it was still pretty good. So, while it is far from being a perfect album, there are more gems on this album for me than there are on the other Mac albums I listed.

Call me crazy, I actually liked the horns. I think "Heroes" is a good album. But like "Mirage," it sounds forced. On both albums, the creative chemistry seems to take a back seat to necessity of recording an album. Even before I knew the stories behind these albums, I could just hear that the band was straining to make the record. I think the same could be said about "Penguin." That album, like "Time" was pretty disjointed, and it sounded like the band wasn't sure it was doing the right thing.
For me, the band, regardless of incarnation, is at its best when they're excited or passionate to be working on a project together. I think in the case of "Mirage" and "Heroes," the band falls short on either account.

Sure, Stevie's songs are my faves, but I love Christine's offerings deeply as well as Lindsey's "Can't Go Back." I think of some of the material as substandard or just too bizarre for me ("Empire State" and "Eyes of the World"), but I never really thought they weren't into it, necessarily. I could be biased because I just love the Christine stuff on there so much and refuse to believe she could have been uninspired, but it's particularly hard for me to believe about Lindsey. But does Lindsey ever sound uninspired? It seems that he gives everything his all, or is that just my perception? And am I right that it was Lindsey's idea to do the idea in the oldies style it's in?

I was including Say You Will in with BN-era.....i guess time wise it's not part of the "era".....but I'll put it in with those albums because the 2 are in it though w/o christine it's probably an era on it's own.
D'oh! Of course! How did I forget about it?

I enjoy Empire State and most of the other songs. "Only Over You" is probably one I skip....and I just can't listen to Stevie's country song....I HATE country. After a few years and I still had nev er fully heard that song I forced myself to listen thinking maybe it's good and I'm just not giving it a chance....and I hated it and was itching the whole time to hit the skip button. But I love Love In Store, Can't Go Back, Book of Love, Gypsy, Hold Me, and Eyes of the World. I don't think there's a Lindsey song on any FM album that I actually dislike.

Meaning "It ISN'T Rumours-era at all", actually.
It's as close (if not closer) to "Buckingham Nicks" as it is "Fleetwood Mac", as well.

That's really interesting (and kind of sad). What is it that you so vehemently dislike about country music? Is it a problem with the lyrical conventions or the musical ones, or both?
I've always loved "That's Alright," even before I had any interest in country music. It's so wistfully poignant. And John's bassline is just great.

no its not lyrics...i don't really even know the lyrics to the song....it's just the general sound of country music i dislike....i don't listen to enough country music to put it into adequate words of exactly what I dislike. But I do live in Texas so it's around. i usually also dislike the generic "country voice" but luckily stevie does not have that. but country music and rap are the two main genre's I dislike

Would it be presumptuous of me to wonder if maybe you just haven't heard much good country music? Most of the country music that you hear casually just by virtue of living in Texas is probably the bottom of the barrel crap, just as most of the pop/rock songs you hear on corporate radio aren't anything to write home about.
If you can't articulate what exactly you dislike about country music in general, can you say what you don't like about "That's Alright?"
Sidenote: I really despise the "generic countyr voice," as well, and its a convention that really puzzles me, as country music used to be all about singing from a distinct voice. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris... you only need to hear about two seconds of any one of their songs, and you know whose voice it is. And they bring something unique to any song that they sing. Whatever happened to that?

I live in Texas too (Speaking of...Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind? LMAO! Sorry, George Strait humour.) and growing up, my dad listened to either oldies or country. I went through a period when I didn't like it at all, but lately, I've been listening to it more. I love 80's country, which gets knocked a lot for it's pop leanings. Dolly Parton is my favorite female country singer, she's just phenom. Her and Stevie are eerily similar too. Keith Urban is my favorite male country singer. I have never been to any country concerts (well, Keith, but that's Keith, baby!! LOL), don't own many country CD's, but I do love me some Ronnie Milsap, George Strait, and various songs from various people.
I would say in almost every genre, there's a sub-genre of singer/songwriter who is different, stands away from the norm. I would put Keith in that category. If you don't like country, that's cool, but there are lots of artists in various genres that might surprise ya. ;)

You've forgotten the one and only George Jones, surely one of the greatest country singers ever.
I hate modern country music. Most of it sounds like bland pop music sung in the generic country voice you've described. Just cos you've got a twang in your voice doesn't make the music country.
Well, there's still Steve Earle, Ilse de Lange an Ray Wylie "screw you,I'm from Texas" Hubbard....
Yes, and the lovely Lucinda Williams, too. Though she seems to get categorized as "rock" more than "country," I think, at least at the record store. Same for Steve Earle. Of course, the best music often does seem to defy easy categorization.

They fall under what is usually called alt.country, No Depression, or Americana. And, there are others, too. Joe Ely/The Flatlanders, Ryan Adams/Whiskeytown, Blue Rodeo, Jeff Tweedy/Wilco/Uncle Tupelo/Jay Farrar/Son Volt, The Jayhawks, Gillian Welch, Neko Case, BR5-49, Cowboys Junkies, Junior Brown, and, of course, Gram Parsons. Some would say folks like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris, and The Band could also be considered alt.country.

Hey Steve, you got the hyphen right in BR5-49! Almost no one does. They are currently on hiatus- as Stevie, I mean Bob Dylan, stole their multi-intrumental show-stopping guy, Donnie Herron, for his latest tour.

My sentiments exactly... we became fans about the same time. I would still like to get Kiln House and English Rose. I don't want Time or any of Mick's Zoo stuff or Chris' stuff. Not that I don't like her music, I do, just not an entire album's worth. Someday I'll pick up OOTC, I used to have Law and Order back in the day. It seems Stevie's is the only solo work I can handle a whole album of. Back in 97 I used to think I would one day own everything in all of their catalogs, but that started getting kinda crazy (the cutting myself off part) and much of it I haven't listened to past the first few spins. I have my favorites and those are the ones I listen to with any frequency.

it was a thing to take it in.I have always preferred Peter period of FM,
i´ve never got any of his solo records ´cause i don´t have any trust in them being any good.
Late 70´s/early 80´s records he doesn´t even play much as Snowy White handles much of the guitar parts.
Of the Splinter group records, only the first holds interest in me,mostly because Cozy Powell plays drums on it.
I think Fleetwood mac fans should be really grateful of the amount of records they have got to listen.
There´s plenty of bands/artists whose recorded legacy amounts to only a couple of records.

In someways I consider the Walter Egan song o Magnet & Steel to almost be a Fleetwood Mac song...a close cousin perhaps. Great harmonies from Stevie, Lindsey's production...and is Mick playing on it? The whole song embodies many of Fleetwood Mac's style and quality.
You make a good point here. But still, given all the various combinations/phases of the band, what Fleetwood Mac represents to people is very varied.
There are specific generations of fans who still lament that the band isn't truly Fleetwood Mac since...
... Peter Green left.
... Jeremy Spencer left.
... Bob Welch left.
... Christine left.
That's why I can't understand "fans" that bitch about Christine's absence on Say You Will. It's a different band now, as is the natural history of Fleetwood Mac's evolution. But the fact is, the core continuity and soul of the band are Mick and John.

A freaking crap load of rarities, interviews, appearances, etc. on various VHS compilations
Various demo bootleg cds, tour rehearsals, etc., interview discs.. I have a cassette briefcase with 50 tapes of random junk that needs to be dubbed off, cleaned up, and uploaded.. I just don't have that kind of time.
As much as this list looks like.. I have so much more that I just haven't detailed. I also have the vintage posters, tourbooks, merchandise, 45s, etc. My whole thing is the 33RPM albums, though.. I've got probably 100 of them counting multiple copies, because I'm trying to get extremely good/mint condition albums and covers to frame and hang up in my music room. :distress:

It was released in late 2005 & it's already out of print. It was a limited edition release & it sold out.
