I was digging through a box-o'-crap today and found this. I mentioned it in a thread a while back (forgot which one), and thought you guys might like to see it.

It's a pre-release info sheet for Street Angel from Modern. I believe I first saw it in the summer of 93, before the album was reworked by Stevie & Thom Panuzio. It's interesting because it gives the *original* tracklisting, which includes "I Call You Missing", and still has Glyn Johns listed as the producer.

So, are we missing a Street Angel era demo? Even though "Love Is Like A River" has a lot of the ICYM lyrics, I don't see how they could be the same song. Altho I guess she could've just been spouting off song titles to get the Modern advertising folks off her back.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah, and the friend who gave me the sheet wrote the 3 song titles on the right. He was friendly with someone at Modern, who told him those songs might be alternates.

It's funny to me now because we had gotten a very very crappy copy of "Docklands" on a boot tape a month or so earlier. But the quality was so bad, we thought the title was "Darklands".

Thanks for posting that! :xoxo:
I had never read that before.

I do recall hearing in 1993 though, that the album was coming out "soon," and "Unconditional Love" was the first single.
There is a photo in the 'Enchanted' boxed-set, of Stevie with very blond, very curly hair, surrounded by candles and some other odds things... and I've been told that photo, and the others like it, were taken on the set of the "U.C." video. But that the video was scrapped when Stevie decided to re-work the album, and go with a different single.

I wonder if we'll ever see it.

EDIT: Just a quick thought from my warped mind--Stevie reminds me a little bit of Miss Havisham from Great Expectations in that photograph.

YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUTTA MY YAP.

I have always thought that about the photos from that session.

that was freakin scary...

I can't believe the descriptions on that promo sheet. "Brilliant" "killer performances" "powerfully moving songs" "most compelling solo album to date"  Liars!

Thanks for posting though, it was interesting to look at. And that so says "darklands."

Yup, UC was supposed to be the first single. I used to have a Modern promo cassette (also from the summer of 93) that had the song on it. It was a different mix than what wound up on the album, too.

Thanks for posting the UC video pics & explanation. I'd always wondered where those pics originated. They always seemed out of "Stevie-context" to me. Yeah, they're a little scary (at least in the form we've seen), but in a good way. Well, kinda. ;)

We drove around Houston for the better part of a year listening to our boot tape singing, "And there are people who roam the Darklands..." So I guess when the lady at Modern said it might be on the album, my friend just assumed our title was right when he wrote it down.

And we were so disappointed when we got the CD and saw the correct title.

"Docklands? What the f*ck are docklands?!?!"

I've always thought Stevie writes all her original/demo lyrics in first person, then changes them to third person during the recording process.

Ya know, she's gotta protect all the identities of the people she's writing about...
