Hi everyone. I'm new to this board. I'm a huge Stevie Nicks fan. She has been an inspiration to me my whole life. I learned to write songs by studying the meaning in her lyrics, I learned to sing by watching the Tusk Documentary over and over (especially the part with her and Lindsay working out the harmony in Angel).

I have two questions. The first, does anyone have any info on the song Castaway. I have the 8 minute version, which I'm not as crazy about. But there is a shorter version which sounds similar, and has her doing her own harmonies and it's just great. I have a bad copy of of but was wondering if anyone knew of a better copy anywhere. Also, I had heard there were several versions of it. I've only heard three myself, the ones I mentioned and one with her on piano ("if you were doing it, I suppose you would go...She's a castaway")

Second, does anyone know where I could get a copy of the Tusk documentary and the outtakes? Thanks everyone. :)

Sincerely,
Don

She also has the lyrics for four of the versions on her Demos And Outtake Lyrics (http://www.sararhiannon.com/lyrics.htm) page.

I haven't even heard all of these versions myself! :o
Hopefully the info I posted will be helpful to you though, and I'm sure some kind Ledgie will help you track down a better copy of your favorite version (and the Tusk Doc).

Again, welcome to the Ledge. :)
Ok, off to bed I go!

Awww ... I LUV the 8-minute version... That bass line gets stuck in my head.

Stevie: "We're singing GREAT! We were singing good, we were playing good, DON'T RAIN ON OUR PARADE, TOM!!! I mean, ya know...

Sharon: (mumbles)

Stevie: "Oh, shut up, Sharon!!!" :D

"Talkin' 'bout your ... MIDSTREAM ... changes ..."

Welcome to The Ledge!! (Even though I don't really see you...)

I love that part too. I always laugh at the way she says "shut up sharon"...too funny.

And welcome to the Ledge Don. I too love Stevie and Lindsey working out those harmonies. You should also check out the Storms putting it together demo. Kinda interesting to hear them working on that song.

Are you talking about the one where she says "I am losing my voice" and he tells her to just try? I LOVE that one too.

Wow, thank you all so much. What a great group of people you all are. Thank you especially, Johnny Stew. I actually saw that list on her site, and wrote asking if she had any of those that I could hear, but most of all I believe it's the early demo #1 that is my favorite. The sound is bad anyway, but the clip I have of it actually starts to slow down halfway through like the person who made it had a bad cassette player. It's still my favorite version. I would like to do a cover of it someday, just me and my keyboard, singing and doing the harmonies. Just for fun. I love that song.

And Hey, could someone send me that Storms demo too please?

Hey Don - and welcome! Your post has peaked my interest in this song. I'm going to go listen to the versions I have... not sure if I have the long one or not... I'll find out! Thanks for the tip! :wavey:

Hi everyone. I'm asking again because I've been listening to Castaway constantly lately. Anyone have the original unreleased #1? I've seen sites with bootleg lists that have a whole CD of various versions but they are not able to send them because I don't have anything to trade. Any help would be apreciated. Thank you.

Also, does anyone know if Castaway was ever covered by anyone? Just wondering. :)

Castaway is one of those songs I've just never "got." Make sense? Of all her beautiful songs, and renditions, Castaway never really sticks out in my mind. I'm gonna go pull em' all out. I think I maybe have 5 versions, and re-give the song a chance. What I do recall is the version from the UR standing out in my mind when I first heard those 3 albums, and I thought for sure that was someone faking a Stevie song. OK, so I was new to the whole demo thing and concept of her having unreleased material.

Hi. :wavey: I have every one of these versions of Castaway, and would be happy to compile them to disc and mail them to you. Please PM me if you are still interested. If you only want the version listed as UR #1, I can e-mail that as well. To my knowledge, Castaway was never covered, though I'm terribly curious who Stevie is talking to when she says 'If you were doing it, I supposed you'd go "She's a castaway..." '
