Well - Clancy and I had a slight mishap last night....just proves I guess that with pets anything can happen
So - here we go - how about a pet mishap thread?
-----------
So recently I had to stop letting Clancy sleep in my bad (due to me NEVER getting a full night's sleep...which is BAD for me) so I got Clancy a nice big fluffy dog bed and put it at the foot of my bed.
She seemed quite happy with it and does sleep there...
Well last night she woke me up making some weird noises...I thought maybe she was snoring - but she'd make the weird noises then move around a lot (shaking the bed) - so I said, "Clancy" thinking she'd stop (this usually works with other things) - but instead she moved more - kept making the weird noises...
So finally I got my ass out of bed to see what she was doing....
Well her little head and front paws were lying on the bed - the rest of her? Wedged somehow under my bed  It was SO sad....
I pulled the dog bed out from under herr....she tried to crawl out - it didn't work - I had to physically lift the bed and then she crawled out...
Poor thing...it was so sad - she was SO happy though to be free....she was wagging her tail and rubbing her little head against me....she didn't seem to be hurt at all...I just felt so bad.....

What do you mean, a mishap?
Also, I don't know if your dog has barfed yet, Deanna, but oh, boy, I sure do love it when my cats do it!
No cat has ever pooped inside, though

Amber, last year, my dog was sleeping on my bed and all of the sudden threw up EVERYWHERE. All over the damn thing! So I take my sheets off to go throw 'em in the washer....well I come back, and the little bitch had pissed ALL OVER MY MATTRESS.
Needless to say, she sleeps outside now.
My dogs are pretty stupid and get stuck under and in things all of the time. Oh well, gotta love it :D

She barfed a lot when I first got her - mostly when I gave her rawhide (and quickly learned NOT to do that) and when I was integrating a new food into her system...
She hasn't barfed in a long time and now her gas problem is also in check

OK -- kinda long (and gross in parts), but with a happy ending...
I used to live in Austin with my best friend and her two HUGE, NEEDY Basset Hounds. The older male, Cronkite, had some arthritis, and I'd spend a good amount of time massaging him (which he LOVED). Anyway, the arthritis made it hard for him to get down the stairs to the backyard to go outside and do his bidness, and he developed this weird habit of going to the second stair and stopping. So, you'd have to stand there with the door open until he made it all the way down the stairs, because he was nearly 6-ft long from his nose to the end of his tail.
So, one lovely Austin afternoon, he came and found me and made the "gotta pee now" face and gesture, and I let him out. Only this day, he didn't stop at the second step, instead bounding all the way down and stopping on the last (fourth) step. I thought, "Wow - he's feeling good today!!!" and closed the door. Or tried to. It was an old house, and the door stuck sometimes, so I firmly pushed it all the way closed.
I heard a "YELP!!!", and looked out the door's window to see the dog clawing at the bottom step and ground, trying to get away from the door, but not moving. I thought, "What the hell?", and looked down to see the tip of his tail (about 3 inches) stuck in the bottom of the door.
So, of course, I freaked and yanked the door open, ripping the skin and fur almost completely off the end of his tail. I say "almost", because the skin came off and was left dangling underneath. "Mortified" doesn't even describe how I felt. I jumped down down the stairs, and carried him back into the house. He weighed at least 100 pounds, but I didn't even notice as I scooped him up into the kitchen.
I screamed for my roommate, and she came running. The dog didn't seem to be in pain, just really shocked, especially that I had lifted him like that. And when he saw his Mama, he of course started wagging his tail (which I was desperately trying to piece back together), slinging blood ALL OVER me, the back half of the kitchen, and the female Basset that had come running to see what all the excitement was.
So anyway, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the Animal ER, getting the tip of his tail sewn back on. When I walked into the ER with my neck, arms & clothes streaked in Basset blood, the vet assistants behind the counter freaked and ran over, thinking the dog MUST have multiple puncture wounds or a severe gash or something... And when I told them it was only his tail, they didn't believe me at first, despite the huge bandage I had wrapped around the end of it.
But he was fine in the end, and didn't hold a grudge, and I was glad. And, from that day forward, when he had to/wanted to go outside, he didn't stop on the stairs ever again. He went all the way down to the ground. And neither me or my roommate closed the door until he (or the other dog, for that matter) was all the way to the bottom.
Here's a link to some pictures of him: http://clicheideas.com/Cronkite/index.htm
You can see how big he was in the "Attacking Mama in the morning" pic on the first page. And yes, that's me in the "Puppies must put up with many indignities" pic, circa 1989 when he (and I) were both just puppies. :D

OH MY!!!! Those are some CUTE dogs...I LOVE hounds...any kind
What a sad little tail story though...poor dog....- glad it had a happy ending.
That reminds me of once when my brother in law was trimming our old dog's claws...the dog flinched - got cut - freaked out then ran around the whole house (which had off-white carpet) all the while making bloody little paw prints...it was scary....

Yes, scary. Nearly everything in my roommate's kitchen was white, also. White appliances and cabinets, with a black-and-white checked floor. When I finally got control of his tail, I looked around and the kitchen seriously looked like a crime scene.
The absolute worst thing about the whole incident was the face Cronkite made at me just before I took him to the ER. You know, that "You're such an idiot!" face that dogs can make when it's obvious that the humans around them really ARE???

This was a husband mishap with my Pomeranian. My husband is a Gunny in the Marine Corp and he loves short hair. The boys (Blake & Joey) both got high & tight hair cuts and my husband decides the dog needs a hair cut. They gave my Pom a flat top and cut his hair so short he now looks like a cat  Nothing against cats but he's my fuzzy little Gizmo not a short haired Cat.

Deb & myself were in the bedroom watching TV when I heard a major ruckus coming from the kitchen, Surely noone was stupid enough to try to break in our house but the ruckus sure made me think otherwise...But alas it was just Patches ("The Crack-head Calico") with her head stuck tighly in an empty Mayo jar, And she as trying to walk around with it on and at the same time trying to work it off her mellon
We made sure to take pictures of her, Cause it was rather humorous (Gotta get those developed, I need a good laugh)...But not too surprising, Our cats are really on the rather dumb-as-hell side of the feline blood lines.

This is gross and has to do with excrement so if you can't deal with that kind of thing skip it. Mufy has long fur and sometimes if his poops are soft they get stuck in it. Then he will drag his butt all along the kitchen floor trying to get it off all the while leaving poop streaks. One time it was so bad, he got it all over the kitchen and I had to cut out the rest of it that was stuck in his fur (gag)! This was during Medium too so I missed the last 15 min of that episode!
I need to have his butt groomed I think. Maybe he'll let me cut it again, he won't let me near his claws though. I should take him to a groomer, poor baby. He was mortified. He was very happy when it was all cut out though.

My stepdad's brother used to trim his dogs nails with old crappy scissors . I saw him do a few times and it was horrible. I swear that guy shouldn't have been allowed near animals, or kids either, but that's a whole other thread.
I don't have any pet stories of my own. My mother never let me have them.

Those are great stories! Nixxxed, very cute dog. Suze? I relate, my good cat is super fluffer nutters, sometimes that happens to him, too. But I usually have to clean his fur off. Oh, he loves that. And I brush him, like, every day, and still get massive fistfuls of fur out. Brian - funny. We used to have a siamese who got small bags stuck on her head all the time, it's really funny. Although, be careful, I once knew people who's dog died because it got it's head stuck in a chip bag, when they were out. :distress:
Moony - barf and pee! awesome!

My animals just tend to do lots of weird goofy stuff -- we have a cat that's deathly afraid of the sound of plastic bags and two others that learned it from her, a cat that sleeps in the litterbox, another one that likes to sleep under the covers with you, and a dog that's afraid of the dark. One of our feline boys, Djibouti, likes to 'sing' in the middle of the night. He doesn't want to be let out, he wants you to come into the kitchen and sit there and *watch him eat* before he starts rubbing up on you again and making you play with him into the wee hours of the morning. He's a very solid, gorgeous, mature cat (except for the eating bit) which is why this is so funny...
Djibouti has a habit of jumping up on top of the fishtank and taking a nap. Well a couple weeks ago we took the glass top off of the tank to clean it and Djibouti decides it's time to sleep, so he jumps up on the fishtank -- and falls in. Then he scrambles out of the tank and throws water everywhere. The walls, the ceiling, the floor... it was hilarious. He ran down the hall and hid under my bed and he gave me this priceless, humiliated "you didn't see that" look when I found him... and he smelled like fish... it was the nastiest thing. Needless to say, he hasn't jumped up on the fishtank since.

That's awesome! Your pets are pretty weird! My cat sleeps in the sink sometimes, and my other cat on top of the kitty litter once in awhile (I have a covered one) But overall they are fairly normal.

Cat's pooping inside... yuck! Brought back memories of a time with my former moggie. We inherited this black panther of a cat with the rather daft name of Custard (the kids had named him). He was a huge cat but a bit of a softie... Anyway one night he came home feeling very sorry for himself. He had clearly been in a fight. In our old house he used to have the run of the basement area with a catflap out from the kitchen. Feeling rather sorry for him I convinced hubby to let him rest on the sofa in the living room and we would leave the door to the kitchen open in case he needed to go out. We'd been in bed about 30 mins when we heard all this yowling and cats fighting. It sounded truly awful. The sight that greeted us was even worse! We think the cat he had fought earlier had come back to finish him off! It had come into our house and attacked him and our poor cat had sh*t itself in fright.. all over our new sofa. Hubby was furious. I felt sorry for the cat but had the 'pleasure' of cleaning it all up. And we were totally pissed with this other cat... which had been coming in and out of our catflap whenever it felt like it.
So a few nights later hubby layed a trap...lol. But that's another story..hehe

But alas it was just Patches ("The Crack-head Calico")
OMG are calicos genetically stupid? Because we have two of the fattest stupidest calicos ever!
Early one summer morning I'm dozing in bed when I look out the window (right next to the bed) and see the dumber of the two calicos is outside. Has been all night. She's looking at me through the screen, "I want in." "Forget it," says I, "Maybe in an hour or two when I'm more awake," and I close my eyes to doze some more.
Then I hear this POING. POING. POINGPOINGPOING. When I open my eyes my stupid fat calico has pushed her way through the screen and is presently standing halfway in and halfway out!
Un-freakin-believeable.

That? Is the sweetest thing in the world. Breaks your heart, eh? She wanted SO badly to be on the bed with you. What a pet. I'm glad to hear you guys are doing so well together.
I've been lucky with my dog - I can't think of a mishap. But just this morning, I woke up, and felt that she was lying right up against me, from my head to my knees (stretched out), and when I turned my head over, her nose was RIGHT in my face. Head right smack on the pillow. I love her so much, all I could do was laugh.
The other thing she does, which could be interpreted as gross (though again, I find it sweet) - every morning, as soon as I get up, I take her out. But as soon as we come back in, she races to my bed and curls up right where the covers are thrown back and I've been sleeping. I guess it has to do with the scent - probably where my scent is strongest. Or else she's just weird. :)

That cat must have been a mean sunabitch, to come into your house. They had some unsettled business.
My cat gets in horrible fights. The sound of cats fighting is bone chilling. I'll run outside with whatever in my hand to try to break it up. The last one left him with a gaping hole in his neck. Took him to the vet and there was nothing they could do for it. But he pulled thru. :)

Yesterday I was passing a sidewalk cafe where a woman had a (very fat) little maltese running around on the opposite side of the wrought-iron fence that separates the tables from the people walking by. She called the dog so he tried to go through to her side, but got stuck halfway. It was pretty funny, but also not because he was really stuck . She had to call a few waiters over and between all of them, they pried the bars apart just enough to get him loose. He seemed ok, but not very happy about the whole ordeal.
Not a mishap so much as a quirk, but my cat used to LOVE to swing from the hanging lamp over the kitchen table in our old apartment. That was always a crowd pleaser with company.

   good one. And really, I'm mostly laughing about the cat. People think cats are just regular, they just eat, sleep, and play, but most of them have some weird thing.
My one cat fetches. It's not exactly amazing, but he catches the ball in midair. And, sometimes I play goalie with him, and he blocks everything really fast. I think I would pay to see a cat swinging from a hanging lamp on purpose, though.

Tiff, that is hilarious. How did he get up there, did he get a running start and just leap and grab it? I've got this visual in my head and it's cracking me up... I will never get over that. It sounds like something straight out of a movie.
And Amber -- we used to have a cat who would fetch too! She liked crinkly things, little paper balls, and you'd crinkle it and her ears would perk up, then you threw it across the room and she'd bring it back. None of the little guys have figured that game out, but they do like to chase tennis balls and laser pointers...

Exactly, crinkled paper balls. He loves it. Even better when he can play with it while crinkling a plastic grocery bag. He tends to bring it back more when he catches it in midair, not as much when it goes past him. I was totally imagining the same thing with Tiff's cat. "Wheeeeeeeeeee!"

At first our older indoor cat (Pi -- like 3.14, she's very rotund  ) didn't mind laying on plastic bags, but then all of a sudden they became a threat to her. We'd put away groceries and she would almost have a heart attack trying to get as far away from that sound as possible. She's at least three years old and she's been shuffled around homes a lot in her life -- she was a rescue kitty from Petsmart that we got from someone else -- so who knows what's happened with plastic bags in her life that we don't know about... I shudder at the thought. She's finally coming out of her shell, though -- before a few months ago, she wouldn't let you pet her and now she's crawling in your lap and on top of you and on your back and everything. Apparently Trouble and Djibouti think that since plastic bags are a threat to Pi, they must be a threat to them too, so whenever we're trying to keep them away from the door, just shake a bag

I'm glad your cat is feeling more comfey, now. Yeah, cats are scared of sounds a lot. It's weird that your other cats picked it up, though. When my bag cat is hungry, he'll go make noise on purpose with a bag that's on the floor. Really, though, they all think it means that I've brought some yummy food for them home from the store....
The cat I rescued, Orangelah, is so sweet and calm, but she still ducks out of the way, just barely, if you try to pet her. I hate that, it just makes me pick her up and force pet her.... I'm like, "C'mere, you little tease!!!"

Oh, also, I forgot, my good cat will jump up into my arms. Not really a mishap, though. Just bragging.

Poor Gretchen.
My mini weenie dog bit off the tip of her tail when she was a pup. Never chased her tail again after that.
How embarrassing, biting off your own tail.
Evidently, Gretchen's nub of a tail didn't make her any less attractive. That bitch had about 3 more litters after that.
That dog. Was a whore.

That's how Pi was for the longest time. She gets "stuck" in the litterbox too -- can't figure out how the door works, and then it just hits her and she walks right out...
Speaking of teases, we have an outdoor/wild/feral cat that we've been feeding for a while (how many cats do I have again? three inside and four outside that come and go as they please, I think) and she refuses to be petted. Her brother has taken up residence too and he'll let us pet him when he's eating and if you manage to pick him up, he doesn't even get his claws out, he's such a sweetie. His sister will try to kill you if you pick her up, which is how she earned the name Killer... and since we haven't been able to catch her, we haven't been able to get her fixed. :( On the bright side, now that she's had these beautiful little bundles of love (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/agentrayevyn/000_1825.jpg), she's letting us pet her and hopefully she'll learn that if we won't hurt her babies we won't hurt her, which means we might end up with another friendly and soon to be fixed cat, plus the little guys...
Sheesh, I make it sound like I live in a zoo. That's the neighbors area of expertise-- they have a goat and a lamb (both indoor/outdoor, I might add), three dogs, rabbits, a boa constrictor, and I don't even want to know what else. Oh yeah -- and cats.

Oh, those are so cute!!!!!!!! Little orangies. I hope someone is able to get her fixed, though soon! I like her, she looks like my cat, but different colors. It sounds fun to have so many animals around. I shouldn't have so many, but I couldn't help myself.

Tiff, that is hilarious. How did he get up there, did he get a running start and just leap and grab it? I've got this visual in my head and it's cracking me up... I will never get over that. It sounds like something straight out of a movie.
Yep... running start from the floor to the table, then up to the lampshade, and around and around and around! Guess she saw it as a big dangly cat toy. She's always been a little weird though. Sometimes she'll just be laying there, perfectly calm, and all of a sudden she'll go careening around the house knocking over everything in sight.

They're six days old and they're so strong already -- two of them have their eyes open and they're moving around all the time. I can't wait till they're bigger and start doing stupid kitten stuff like freaking out at mirrors -- priceless.
You know what's funny? Seeing a lamb with a collar on running across your yard. That'll make you do a double take.

Picture it : Oregon, semi rural area, early 70's. People not so big on the spay and neuter thing.

But Bob Barker is older than dirt - didn't you hicks get the Price is Right there?
My kitty now has a $700 penis....I'm too tired to go into it all again, I think I talked about it here in another thread somewhere....uti...kitty hospital for 3 days...yadda, yadda, yadda...
More recently, he had a hangnail claw on a front paw - he kept getting himself snagged on things. I was in the kitchen and heard him wailing like crazy - he got stuck on the couch and was twisting himself around to try and break free. Poor baby....I think I was more scared than he was!

Oh. right. My mom was really big on it, I guess not everyone is/was. I wish there were a bunch of kittens around when I was little! we only had one litter, ever.

I just remembered the funniest thing that ever happened to my cat. He was drinking out of the pool (a big no-no!) and I usually tap on the window to get his attention so he will stop. Well, this one particular day, he had his back toward me and I BANGED on the window, and he JUMPED forward, directly into the pool. I ran outside, thinking he was drownDing, but of course, he could swim. He swam to the ladder and climbed out. Smart kitty. And then I couldn't stop laughing. Once he got over the embarrasment and came out of hiding, I toweled him off and he was fine.

Squirt a hose on 'em! That's what I do, it works!

That's hella funny. don't you think it's weird how cats can be embarrassed? I've never seen a really embarrassed dog. Contrite, though, dogs are good at that. But, I've never seen a contrite cat...

Yeah - when they get that "I meant to do that" kind of attitude...OH! Just around the corner from my house, I saw a cat getting dive-bombed by a bird. There must have been a nest nearby...I actually stopped the car to watch and was LMAO. The cat was casually walking verrrrry sloooowly, like "Go ahead, keep pecking my ass, see if I care." The bird was relentless, it was too funny!

Thank god your cat was OK. Our neighbors down the street had a poodle that wasn't too lucky and was too old to do anything. Poodles are notorious for bad eyes as they age so coupled with her being an older dog (16), she couldn't see well either. This past winter she went near the pool and fell in. They found her the next morning and absolutely were in hysterics. It upset me so much because I know how much we love our dog (she's also a poodle). If something were to happen to her i'd be more than crushed. She's been my best little buddy since i've been in second grade. They bought another puppy a few months ago and are being extremely cautious.
Whenever my dog does something wrong, she puts her paws over her eyes...little ****. She got into the trash recently. My mother and I come downstairs to find crap all over the kitchen floor. She's knows she's in trouble when she hears, "Muffin Lynn! What did you do??" *paws over eyes* Also, this Christmas she started opening up presents underneath the tree (I have video of that I should upload). She's become rather brazen in her old age!
When my first cat Neelix was still pretty young and I was still trying to teach her certain things, like, Neelix Can Not Eat Mari's Food, she was crazy about lasagna. Just the right cat for me, we both love cheese ;) Well, one time I was so ignorant to leave a pan of lasagna in the kitchen without something to cover it.. and she jumped right into to it.
She's also jumped in a pan of frying oil (fortunately cold at the moment!!!). Now she's too heavy to jump on the kitchen counter, phew.
She also used to pee on my bed covers to let me know the kitty litter needed to be refreshed... very nice.
The other one, Patsy, is a real acrobat. I live in an apartment three stores high, and she's jumped of my balcony three times already without ANY sign of harm. Had her checked out by the vet each time, of course!
