I was a big fan of the Baby-Sitter's Club series. I loved all the "Superfudge" books and the Wayside school series. I also liked the Chronicles of Narnia.

I never read Madeline - but the Amelia Bedelia...lol...I had one that I read over and over and over again as a kid...I forget the exact title - but she goes to work for this family cleaning - and "dusts the house" and of course she puts dust all over the house...

Then instead of drawing the curtains - she literally draws curtains on paper....woo - those used to crack me up as a kid....

Then there's one where she teaches school... What great memories...

Oh Bunicula !!!!! and Indian in the Cupboard - both GREAT!!! I'd forgotten about those.

The Chronicles of Narnia - I've thought about going back to read those because I HATED them in fifth grade...but here's why...

I had this old hag teacher with bald spots and corn removers on her elbows....

She read us The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - but we had to sit completely still - stare straight ahead and not touch ANYTHING!

That was absolute torture as a kid - I wanted to doodle or draw while listening - no - nothing....and as a result I was miserable and I hated the book.....stupid Ms. Williamson....I hated her

I don't think I loved it. I'm not even sure I read it. Though I must have, right? How weird. But then, I was all about the mysteries. I guess they're not children's books, but I started reading Agatha Christie in the 5th grade or so. I loved those, too. And there were so many!!! I love series.

I feel really old today and ya'll aren't helping. LOL!!

I'm kidding...I love nostalgia and looking back. I remember those Bunnicula books (don't remember reading them, just remember them. LOL). My friend/neighbor used to read Sweet Valley High and drove me INSANE with them. I never read those as a kid and she insisted on telling me all about them. Ugh.

I loved Charlotte's Web. :thumbsup

I think I watched more movies/cartoons as a kid than I read. :o

Ya'll mentioned Judy Blume...remember Forever? I went to a Christian/Baptist school from kindergarten through 8th grade and a girl brought that book to school (6th grade maybe) and we all gathered around to read it. LOL It was soooo controversial and we all got in trouble for reading it. For those who don't know...it's about a girl's first time.

Chronicles of Narnia...I read some of those when I was in high school. I got made fun of for choosing those to read for English class. I love those BBC productions of Narnia. I think they are making it a movie, right?

[FONT]I love that book, too. Also, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret Classic.

One of my all-time faves is Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH <3333333

And anything by Louis Sachar, especially the Wayside School books and There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom
Also, Bridge to Terabithia, The Outsiders, The Drowning of Stephan Jones, The Hobbit, I Had Seen Castles, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Annie On My Mind, Leaving Fishers, and I could go on and on. (Some of those are bordering on being or are YA books, though).

Sadly, I also read the Sweet Valley books and Goosebumps books. I was also really fond of the Everworld series by K.A. Applegate, and though it's not the best, I think it has some great qualities and is a huge step up from the first two series I mentioned.

Bridge to Terebithia was so sad. I just wept. And has anyone mentioned that one book, that teachers always read, about the boy and his dog? Can anyone remember what that was called? The dog dies to save the boy, or something? WHere the Red Fern Grows? Is that right? Or is that another book....

Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. Still one of my favorite books.

The Bunnicula series!

The Dollenganger series by V.C. Andrews (Flowers In the Attic, etc.). Not kids books, but I read them as a kid and *loved* them. They were so trashy and scandalous.

Anyone ever read Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt? I loved that book so much. I still read it now anytime I'm sick and feeling awful. And don't go by the lame-o movie of a few years ago. The book is far better.

Also -

Frances the Badger (Bread and Jam for Frances; Bedtime for Frances)
Tell Me a Mitzi (anyone know this one??)
Amelia Bedelia (thought it was hilarious!)
B is for Betsy - and that whole series
Black Stallion - and that whole series
Henry Huggins - and that whole series
Paddington Bear - and that whole series
All the Gordon Kormans
All the Beverley Clearys
All the Laura Ingalls Wilders

Yes, I loved that book too! Did you ever read Rasco and the Rats of Nimh? I think it was the follow-up.

I was obsessed with books about animals, so that's all I would read. Does anyone remember those books that were about all the animals in the forest? One was called Lightfoot the Deer - they were written a long, long time ago. But there were alot of them, Paddy the Beaver, Bobby the Racoon. lol. Anyway I loved those. I also was obsessed with Nancy Drew, the real old ones, written in the 1950s or whatever. And the Babysitter's Club.

I also loved
Island of the Blue Dolphins
The Big Friendly Giant (THE BFG)
Tucker's Countryside
The Trumpet of the Swan - where the trumpeter swan loses his voice so he uses a stolen trumpet. lol.

Island of the Blue DolphinsI hate that book! :sorry: My Mom and I joke about how painful we found it to be all the time. She's a librarian at a middle school and the kids always hate it whenever any of the reading or English teachers decide to read it with them. I think there were two or three that came after the first one. I never read any of them. Did you? I have an older sister who was (and is) the bigest bookworm ever... she had about a billion Babysitter's Club, SVH/SVU, Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, as well as Judy Blume and all the teenage girly books. So I read my share of all of those when I had nothing else left to read. I actually liked the Nancy Drew ones quite a lot, much better than the Hardy Boys. The 'Super Specials' where they joined up were great.

I read each Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton a hundred times. Favourites with them were Matilda and The Wishing Chair.

The Narnia books were so-so ... but I really enjoyed The Last Battle. I loved that movie, Shadowlands.

My favourite children's books were the Redwall series and the Duncton series, and anything by the Australian authors Emily Roddha and Robin Klein. These women, and all young adult authors, are geniuses!

As for picture books, did anyone else read Grug? Those books were good but so depressing! Even for his birthday party, it was just him! haha

Also, Bridge to Terabithia That is my favorite children's/young adult book of all times! It is just terrific, even though it is extremely sad. I cry at the last two or three chapters every time. I have my class do a novel study of that book every year. It is always well received.

Anyone ever read Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt?
I also have my class do a novel study on it every year; it is one of my favorites as well.

I love any book by Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume. I especially love Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. My class does novel studies on the whole "Fudge" series.

I'll add these that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: (1) Sounder, (2) Holes, (3) My Side of the Mountain, and (4) The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. These are all young adult books.

For smaller kids I like: (1) If You Give a Moose a Muffin, If You Give a Pig a Pancake, etc. There is a whole series of books like these they are very cute. (2) The Pop Up Series by David Carter like Love Bugs, (3) Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Alexander and the Horrible, Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Also, for any age, Shel Silverstein has a set of poetry books that are hilarious! Light in the Attic, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and Falling Up. I just love them!

And recently I've grown fond of the books (from reading to my nephew): Click Clack Moo and Auntie Claus (Christmas book) - cute books.

I loved the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary, and I'm trying so hard to get my daughter to get into those! She likes a newer series written by Barbara Parks, the Junie B. Jones series. Junie B. reminds me of Ramona...

I also loved all of Judy Blume's books, from Superfudge books to Forever ...My mom started to buy Forever for me, but unfortunately, she read the first page and decided against it. Soooo, my friends and I would go in the bookstore every time we went to the mall and read some of it. (It was never available in the library!)

I confess that I also read those lame Sweet Valley books...ya know, the ones where the entire first chapter gave the SAME description of the twins---perfect size 6, green eyes, silky blond hair, etc.

I also remember liking Pippi Longstocking books and Miss Wigglepiggle (???), or was it Pigglewiggle...or now am I thinking of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store? :p

I also read the Sweet Valley High books. I love love love everything by Judy Blume although I never did read Forever! I can't believe that.

There was a book I liked when I was small about a dog, I think his name was Rags, and he is a stray that is taken in reluctantly by a store owner. He winds up thwarting a robbery attempt and becomes a hero and the apple of the store owner's eye. I cannot remember what it was called though and I can't find it!

I read a lot when I was younger, I loved it, still do.

I read another witchy book that kicked ass too but I don't know the name of it. The witch could "see" radio waves and such and was put off by how much of the air was being taken up by these waves. Imagine that now!

I think you'd like the Witch of Blackbird Pond. I really loved it, I think I identified with that character. Does anyone remember the Babysitters Club books? Yikes. I think I read every one of those!

I love any book by Judy Blume.

Deenie (about the pretty model girl who had scoliosis) and Are You There God It's Me Margaret were my faves.

When I was a kid my fav. was- Loves Music, Loves To Dance. :o

My favorite was "Remember Me." I think it was made into a cheesy t.v. movie starring Kelly McGillis.

I also remember liking Pippi Longstocking books and Miss Wigglepiggle (???), or was it Pigglewiggle...or now am I thinking of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store? :p

It was Mrs. Piggly Wiggly. My 2nd grade teacher would always read those to us.

Ooooh.... thought of a couple more....

Alligator Pie!! Anyone else know this one? It's a collection of wacky, funny poems.

And the other one is "But Not The Hippopotomus" which is by Somebody Boynton. It made me cry the first time I read it.

Oh!! And the Olivia the Pig books. I discovered those just a few years ago. They are phenomenal!

Go Dog Go! Great book. ;) What a tree that was, where they held the party.

My favourite Dr Seuss book was 'The First of Octember'!
