Never wanted one and never will get one. I can't stand the thought of being in my 60s or 70s with a butterfly or something equally as generic on my hip, the small of my back or ankle (no offense to the butterfly girls--many of my friends have them in said locations) and a boat load of sagging flesh. Bleech. I know a lot of people who are only in their late 20s and already, the ink has begun to fade. Talk about going through a lot of pain for nothing--fading ink would piss me off. My mom has always wanted one. I think that officially sealed the deal for me. If that isn't a big turn off for a tattoo, I don't know what is

I hate that too! I have had so many problems with that darn machine, too. My tests come out high/normal because I always blink and I know that there is nothing wrong because I have been to a specialist. He told me that those machines aren't always accurate.
As for tattoos I never had the urge to get one. I just don't see the big appeal of them. I used to have a pack of the stick on rose ones but those you can move around in different places, too. That you can't do with a real one and I think that is why they never appealed to me.

Oh, by the way, as a resident of California in my age group and lower, you ARE required by law to get tattoos. It's also frowned on for you not to have any piercings. Perhaps it's different in uptight east coast, but here, it's the law!

i spent five hours of my 18th birthday getting my tattoo. i had been doodling the same dragon for something like two years so there was no question that i was using it as a template. it is stevie-inspired: one of my fave lines is "pale shadow, she's a dragon" and Battle of the Dragon is one of my fave songs. somehow, i named him after Neil Young. if TISL had come out before i turned 18, i might have gone for the S dragon. i've never regretted getting my tat, and i have been waiting to add onto it for a while.
he's a little pixely because i had to compress the file:

I don't have any - but almost got one when I was 16
My friends and I skipped school and went to a tattoo shop - as they were piercing my (underage) friend's tongue I was convincing the guy I was 18 and of course my friends were backing me up
I was all set to go when the manager showed up and stopped it since I didn't have ID..
Thank goodness!!!
I was going to get a little musical eighth note on my ankle...something simple and small - but I'm glad I didn't - I don't have anything against tattoos - I think they're awesome - but I'm too much of a coward to get one...
In fact I'd like to join the "I hate pain club"

Nope. I'm with Marissa, I can't imagine being 65 and seeing a ridiculous tattoo on my person. I don't particularly need ink drawn permanently on my body to express myself as a person, I never saw the point. And I cry at the sight of needles, so that would rule out getting one automatically.

I've considered one but I'm not down with the permanence of it. If I did for some reason I'd go for a little shooting star on the back of my shoulder, but I don't think I'll ever go through with it.

I can't deal with the pain and the idea of living with one for the rest of my life doesn't sound good to me at all. I can think of a few symbols that would be important enough for my whole lifetime (human heart or penguin, perhaps), but I still can't see putting one of those on my flesh. I hate that it wouldn't look the same when I get older, so I figure it's not worth it for me.

The sagging flesh factor has always gotten to me. That and what if you get something and you end up hating it? The removal is supposedly more painful than the actual tattooing process.
Do any of you have names of people that you've since broken up with. If so, what in the hell were you thinking!??! I love how Johnny Depp turned his Winona Forever into Wino Forever--we're happy you enjoy wine too, Johnny.

I think people think I'm sneaky, too. :( Not from my tattoo, but when I grin. Anyway, I'm not sneaky at all, unfortunately.
I'd also like to take this opp to explain my butterfly. I, too, thought it was lame when people just got random, butterfly (or whatever) tattoos. One day, my friend drove up (wait, down) to visit me. We had just finished having lunch on telegraph, with cocktails. So we walk out, and were all "what should we do now?" and I laughingly said "we could get tattoos!" but she was like "yeah! I can get my winking tiger! (it's this joke she always tells. anyway. ) And i was like "you can, I'm broke, and I don't have one in mind, anyway" and she was all "noooo, you get one too, I'll pay for it". So then, I was trying to think, and whatever, and I had this little patch of veins on my leg which were the bane of my existence. So, basically, I got the butterfly to cover the veins. I couldn't think of anything, and didn't have much time anyway.... :D

I guess I always figured that I would look at my tatoo when I'm 65 and pleasantly remember the times and myself as I was when I got it. I figured too that if it got too faded and yucky, I could always have it recolored. Plus, I thought long and hard about something that I could get that would always be meaningful to me and was careful to get it somewhere that I don't have to show unless I want to. Plus, it didn't hurt as much as you might expect it would. So far no regrets. :)

I thought I was the only one who detested the eye-puff thing. I actually have a friend who LOVES it.
I've had glasses since the 7th grade, and I have yet to find an optometrist who can perform that test successfully on me. Not even one. The minute they ask me to sit down at the table, my eyelids involuntarily close. And of course, they "say" the test is really "important", so they keep trying over and over and over. But they finally give up and stop once my eyelashes have been blown underneath each lid.

I've had glasses since I was in 4th grade. I remember when I was around 11 or something, I refused to have that done. They tried to make me feel guilty by having a lil kid have it done while I was making a "scene". They had to go get my mom and have her sign a paper saying I didn't have to do it. I've had it done since then, but sheebus, I despise that machine....I curse whoever came up with that torture device.
It just means we have strong reflexes....and I'm skittish anyways. LOL
And...OMG...anyone who watched ER a couple of weeks ago will know what I'm talking about. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen on TV and I watched knee surgery once. LOL Some guy's eyeball popped out and I FREAKED.

I had that done after Jason died because after he died, I had dragonflies around me all the time. Right, he did it himself ON himself! It took like 5 hours (not all at once). I can't believe he could keep his own hand so steady because, ya know, IT HURTS!
I think it's some 1920's art deco design. He just saw it and said, "I like it. I'm gonna put it on my calf."
Right now he's working on this dragon that goes over this guy's whole back. Very simple design, but BIG. I'll post a pic if I can find it.

I was going to get one about 2 years ago, something Stevie related (not a giant portrait of her on my ass or anything, just some lyrics or something.) Hubby asked me not too, said he'd be really upset. He'd never asked me not to do something before or since. So i didn't get one.
And I can't believe you know someone who LIKES the glaucoma test! EW! Did anyone see ER last week when they were testing the guy, he had a weird reflex & started coughing uncontrollably. He coughed so hard the eyeball popped out of his head! GROSS! I know, it's just TV, but given my "thing" with eyes, I was screaming at the TV.
