I added a spot on my site called "The Hot Spot". There's some cool stuff on there right now. I dont really want to say what it is but it might strike up some debating. In a good way. Just see for yourself and let me know what you think..feel free to talk about it. It could be interesting.http://www.angelfire.com/music6/thehotspot

I never noticed the similarity in the chord progession (V-IV-I) of that first part of "Angel" with "Werewolves." In musical terms, it's a dominant-subdominant-tonic progression.

On the page you say that there's an organ on "Angel," but it's actually an electronic piano.

I know New York, it's on Alone With Everybody (lame cd, IMO), the first Ashcroft solo album, but it can't be about 9/11, it came out in 2000. By the way, those kind of similarities are quite common and especially in Illume case sounds really vague to me. :)

Yeah, it is a keyboard but the instrument on it selected was probably an organ so same difference lol. When I hear it I think of like a hammond organ or something...I dunno, its trying to be an Organ one way or another

The only mistake was my info on the song's date of birth. It is obvious it is the same song. Same bassline, and everything. Some people just don't have an ear for it i guess.

Hey, just my opinion. Anyway, that bassline isn't really rare, you know. ;)

As soon as my computer stops sucking copious amounts of ass (dialup), i'll have to check this out because it's certainly interesting. Good job!

Yeah, it is a keyboard but the instrument on it selected was probably an organ so same difference lol.No, it really has nothing to do with an organ. There is no organ patch or voice on that particular piano model. In fact, there are only four voicings on it: Piano 1, Piano 2, Piano 3, Harpsichord. That's just what that instrument sounds like.
When I hear it I think of like a hammond organ or something.Ah, okay. That's a different matter. It sounds like something different to many people. To me, it sounds like a distorted jazz guitar through a fuzz box, or a Wurly through a rotary speaker. But it's a sound that's essentially unique to Yamaha.

Very interesting. Every time my mom hears me playing "Angel" in my room or in the car, she always says This sounds like Warren Zevon! I love both songs (and both artists!), but I've never really taken the time to analyze the similarities in structure or whatnot.

i heard Werewolves for the first time yesterday on the classic rock station and I thought it was Angel but I heard the piano and I freaked out for a min. Then I found out it was Warren Zevon and I made the connection. It was weird..I kept saying "This sounds like Angel!!"

I sent GeminiCusp82 a private message yesterday and figured, hell, I might as well post it. Illume sounds an awful lot like Richard Ashcroft's New York, but there is also a second song called C'Mon People (We're Makin' It Now) that sounds quite a bit like Say You Will. It's not nearly as obvious but there are definite elements. Lindsey must have been listening to a bit of the old Ashcroft when he started production on the Say You Will album. I really doubt either of these songs are consciously ripped off though. We take influence and inspiration from things all the time. I know I do. And sometimes it's difficult to tell if the idea is coming from you or you've heard or seen (in my case) it before.

I am loving these Richard Ashcoft songs. Love his voice. I need to go out and buy some CDs.

I just posted C'mon People and Say You Will on my "the hot spot" page so if anyone wants to hear it to compare, it's there. :woohoo:

I think Richard Ashcroft's Alone With Everybody album is fantastic! Song for the Lovers is great too! Pick it up, you won't be disappointed! I saw him live in Vancouver and he's sitting in my top five concerts. He used to be with The Verve too if you REALLY dig his voice. I love him. He has a really f-ed up face too in a very good way. I think he's beautiful!

Just listened to Richard Ashcroft C'mon People and had forgotten how similar the guitar is to Say You Will. Crazy! Now, I'm listening to Werewolves of London. Crazy! Zevon and Nicks were friends, right. So, it must have all been cool with each other. I prefer Angel. The "Ahooooooo" is really irritating in Werewolves.

OK, to my ears "Bring on the Night" and "New York" have the most striking similarities to Stevie's songs. The "Angel" and "Say You Will" (verse) chord progressions are some of the most common in pop, so those don't really seem so amazing to me. I'll grant the guitar line in SYW is a lot like the one in "C'mon" -- but SYW's chorus is totally different (and better).

But "New York" -- yeah, the rhythm and progression are exactly the same as Stevie's. Wow. I'll bet she heard that song at some point before writing "Illume." As for "Bring On," was that written before "Edge" or after? The verse has a suspiciously similar sound.

Interesting page!

I agreed about "Bring on" so I looked up the copyright data: 1979, a year and a few months before "Edge" :(

OK, to my ears "Bring on the Night" and "New York" have the most striking similarities to Stevie's songs.I still don't hear the melodic or harmonic similarity between the Police song & "Edge of 17." The only similarity -- albeit a serious one -- is the drum pattern with the kick on the off-beat.

The "Bring on the Night" verse chord progression is:
Am/C Em/C D7 Am/D Em G/E Am/F Em
Am/C Em/C D7 Am/D Em G/E Am/E Em

& the chorus is:
G A Am Em D
G A Am Em D

"Edge of 17" is:
Em C D Em D/E Em
C D Em D/E Em

That song Cmon People sounds similar to the beginning melody of (Reach Out) "I'll Be There" by the Four Tops.

Anyone else think so?

Everyone seems to rip everyone else off. LOL
