View Full Version : What Stevie song is your LEAST favorite on Tusk?
I think that Stevie's songs on Tusk represent her greatest Fleetwood Mac effort. Since I love each one of her songs on there, it's hard for me to decide which song I like the least. So I was just curious what everyone's opinion is.
I voted for Angel. I love the lyrics and I love its rockin' vibe, but compared to the others, I decided it is my least favorite.

So I was just curious what everyone's opinion is.I vote for Beautiful Child, which is just not a favorite of mine, although it's fine in the wider context of a double album that's a sprawling series of mostly peaks & a few valleys. Certainly there's an interesting reverb thing going on on the Beautiful Child track, & the minimalism & dream-state quality of it are picture-pretty.

My fave is "Sara" closely followed by "Angel." I also think that these tracks represent some of her best efforts with FM (also her three on Mirage), so it's hard to pick a least favorite. I find them all enthralling, but I chose "Sisters of the Moon." I love the lyrics, the music, the vocals--everything, but I don't listen to it as much as the others, and I find it much harder to relate to than the others. The other four remind me of some event or even some major theme in my life but "Sisters of the Moon" seems to be much more personal to Stevie and then obviously not so universal as the others.

I prefer Angel on Stevies solo version MUSICALLY more than Fleetwood Mac's but performance wise it doesnt beat stevies solo version.

Actually "Storms" is one of the few tracks where my opinion somewhat differs with other fans.
I have the usual favourites, "Landslide", "Crystal", "Silver Springs", "Sara", "Beautiful Child", "Gypsy", most of Bella Donna and The Wild Heart, the better half of Rock A Little (for some reason I've always had a soft spot for the title track of that album). And so on. Sorry to be disappointing. ;)

I don't think "Gate and Garden," and my other fave solo song, "Outside the Rain," are necessarily her best solo compositions, but they're my personal fave.
But Sharon did ask you. She didn't just declare it to be etched in stone and the single, ultimate truth or anything. I didn't think she was trying to imply that you were wrong, just different, is decidedly a good thing in my book.

My guess was that her set was too long. For that tour she was touring for months unlikethe short Bella Donna Tour. She also dumped Enchanted, which I thought she should have kept to promote the album more. I think it did great with the audiences because she kept it all throughout the tusk tour.

I agree, although I find the lyrics to Sara extremely confusing.
But I think the one line from SOTM, "So we make our choices, when there is no choice" is probably one of her greatest lyrics of all time. Easily relatable, imo, and so true.

The whole TOSOTM album in my opinion is very adult contemporary..its like..ok modern records guys with hairy a$$es, help this woman out and get her back on track...drop the pills and learn to belt again...like that even happened..lol But TOSOTM had its strongpoints...Doing the Best That I Can, Long Way To Go, Rooms On Fire, Juliet..but Alice was never one of my favorites. All except Sara are tied for her best. And when Sara is the cleaning lady 8 minute version its a 5 way tie. But in their regular forms Sara is easily last. live SOTM takes a big lead over the rest. And I'd say Angel and BC win if we're talking studio versions. Of course alternate takes on disk 2 of Tusk makes BC suck and then Storms and SOTM and Sara are tied for 1st there.
Confusing enough? Just shows how freaking great her Tusk songs are.

Thats weird, as far as just a song I relate to, Sisters of The Moon has to be in the top 5. Its really one of my theme songs. Just substitute him for her in the "people who love her but still they're the most cruel" and "Intense silence as she walked in the room" Now Sara, theres a song I can't relate to.

Many of her songs could mean lots of different things to different people, so if you take SOTM and substitute some pronouns here and there it might mirror your own life. "Sara," to me, is delightfully vague like "Gate and Garden" and I feel like I can do what I want with it in my head. So it takes on what must be an entirely different meaning for me than what Stevie herself had intended. And the heartbeat line is what does it for me. Totally seals the deal.

I cannot believe how difficult this choice is! Stevie's Tusk songs are among my most favorite of anything she has recorded so this decision was a tough one. I went with Sisters...only because I had to chose. Live SoTM is killer and I love the song but Sara, Storms and Beautiful Child are in my top five Stevie songs of all time so....
Angel is the only other song I considered choosing but The Tusk Doc and Outtakes made that an impossible choice. I enjoy the harmonizing and interaction between her and Lindsey so much on this song! When they would sing at the same mic...wow..it puts the song over Sisters for me.
All five of her songs on Tusk are among her best lyrically and musically, imo.

The problem with SOTM is that it sounds like it was cut off, like there should be another verse and chorus after the guitar solo. The practice cut off the remixed Tusk CD even sounds incomplete. And if the editing for the Mirage concert video was better, that version would be my favorite, even with the 'speaking in tongues' rock out at the end. It sounds complete.
Sara gets my vote as my least favorite from Tusk. Nice song, but the vocal is too mixed down.
As for best effort, that goes to Mirage. I would love to hear That's Alright and Straight Back live!

Well, this was a hard one for me as I love all of Stevie's songs on Tusk. They are some of her finest works! But I decided to go with Sister Of The Moon as when I first discovered it, it was on the Mirage 1982 concert and Lindsey does his verses and come to find out he was not on the original version when I purchased my Tusk vinyl so I was a bit disappointed there but it was still a great Stevie song in my eyes. I like the piano demo floating around of it. I couldn't get rid of any of the others as they are so fitting to times gone by for me.
