Hello...
So when I was 12 - I had the BIGGEST crush on this student teacher in band.
I can still remember the exact moment when I saw him for the first time lol....he was ten years older than I and of course I was but a dorky and ackward middle school band geek.
Well - that is probably the biggest most intense crush of my life - it never went away - from 12 to well...now lol...I have seen him on and off through the years- though not for many years now - the last time saw him was at a wedding when I was in high school...
Okay - so my sister is good friends with this guy's best friend. Well my sister's friend forwarded her an e-mail which she forwarded to me...
AND the guy I used to like's name/e-mail is in the list of folks the message was sent to!
I know he's in South Carolina beause my old band director filled me in (without my asking, he just saw me at bar, walked up to me and without so much as a hello he said, "okay - so I'll give you a Mr. Lane update" lol...
Okay - so my question....(and yes I'm totally neurotic )
I have his e-mail now - I thought it'd be amusing to e-mail him....
But I don't want to be creepy or weird...I guess I'm just super paranoid about how an e=mail will be received...
That and I don't know what to say....I don't want to address the fact that my creepy ass has been pining away for him for years lol.....just a friend hello type thing - mostly I'm just interested in making a contact with him as a grown person...ya know now that I'm no longer 12 :p
Anyway any input? thoughts? advice?
I feel like such a dork...but I've been thinking about this all night.

a short email asking how he is doing, how your doing, etc...
Just follow your heart is all I can say (I can relate to how you feel in a way, I tried to think of what to ask my sister Lesa when I first talked to her in February)

I think you should email him. What have you got to lose? Just be casual, like "hey, I happened to come across your email, wondering how you've been, yadayadayada..."
I wouldn't include a photo of the shrine you have for him in your bedroom though. That might freak him out a bit. ;)

Oh...well here's one reason I'm so spazzy about it.....a bit of (embarrasing) history:
Being that I was in sixth grade - and sixth graders are evil vile creatures...he TOTALLY knew I had a crush on him. Why?
Because pretty much everyone and their grandma knew about my crush -and everyone got a charge of, right in front of me, walking up to him and saying, "Mr LANE! Deanna likes you..."
And as I would silently die of embarrasment. Okay - but once this asshole Gabe did that and Mr Lane said, "You leave her alone!" and I was of course - plunged deeper into my crush...
The worst however what the love letter my friends helped me write to him lol...
we had absolutely NO intention of ever giving it to him....but my friends and I were joking about ways to give it to him...then our friend Annalise joined late, said we were stupid, grabbed the note and marched up to the table he was sitting at (this was lunch time) - and gave it to him...
He began to open it and my band director grabbed it from him and read it out loud to the teacher's table...I ran out of the cafeteria dying of embarrassment...
lol....there ya go

He will remember who you are, right? That's key, that he will know who you are when he reads the email. If he does, I'm sure he'll be happy to hear from you. Why not? Sounds like a great idea to me.
That said - does anyone know if my freshman Science teacher is still married???

Aww, what a sweetie. And since he knows you had such a big crush on him you should maybe even mention it in your email! "Hey, I'm the woman who used to be the girl with the biggest crush on you ever, remember me?" Definitely use humor, use interest in what he's up to and how he's doing, and include what you are up to and your single status, hehe. OF COURSE YOU SHOULD EMAIL HIM! You've got nothing to lose, girl. AND, try not to focus on getting a reply and just write, like Brian said, from your heart. :xoxo: Good luck!
By the way, I do not know how you even survived all that teasing! I think I would have just *died*.

Yeah - I remember wanting to die after those things...
THEN once I was going on and on and on about MR. Lane and how hot he is etc...my friend Kelly was just looking at me all wide eyed, I got a sinking feeling, looked behind me ...and there was my band director just staring down at me smiling lol....

 I would NEVER talk about who I liked for fear of embarassment. I did this once in second grade and my friend's older brother teased us so badly I was so mortified. Actually, I take that back, I did tell a friend's mother I had a huge crush on him naively thinking she wouldn't tell him, duh! But I rarely told anyone anything. Too scared/shy.

Aww, how cute. :xoxo: I understand this feeling because mine was a kid I knew camping, our parents were friends, sort of still are and I hung out with him a lot in the summer. I never told anyone I liked him but my Mom knew just cuz I am her daughter and it was written all over my face. But I was just a kid. He was only 2 years older but that was just enough not to be interested in skinny little barely pubescent me.
I was so devastated when he got a girlfriend and then 2 years later he frikkin married her, or maybe it was more like 5 years. Anyway, they are STILL together, since I was 13 man! But sometimes I think, what if they got divorced, oh that's terrible. I would never go there but I just think if it "came about" that they were divorced then maybe...

I actually talk to my second grade teacher via snail mail, still. I talk to my Algebra teacher now through PMs on Mick's chat board. She updates me on stuff that I missed if I was gone that day, or sometimes we'll randomly talk to each other on the board itself. She's new and I don't think she enjoys it too much becuase she doesn't like the whole student/teacher friendship thing. But, the longer you become a teacher the more students you will actually get to liking and talk to them out of school. :)

My Sophomore gym teacher was the biggest perv. Gawd. Whenever we would be playing a sport or anything he would always come up to the girls and rub their shoulders. I remember one time I was going to serve a ball in volleyball and he came up and started rubbing my shoulders and called me honey. It didn't really bug me since I know he didn't mean anything by it, but other girls took it seriously and actually went to the deans about it. He's back this year though, but I haven't heard if he still does it.
My American Literature teacher was really weird too. If you wore a low cut shirt to school and a shirt and bent down infront of him, you were guaranteed to get an A.

It would definitely take time getting used to calling a teacher by their first name. My neighbor works with the special ed kids and I call her by her first name, and my friends always ask me why I do it. I've known her longer as a neighbor than her working at my school.

Actually I would! I think they're so cool! :D I PMed you a while back asking how you did it, but you never responded. You can PM how to do it or just post it here. Doesn't matter :)

Deanna, I really don't see anything wrong with sending him a friendly little email. :)
Hopefully, he will write back and you can get to know him a bit better. ;)
Good luck!

 I figure it's outta my hands now - if I don't ever hear back from him then that's that - I've lost nothing...
But it'd be really cool if he did write back...*crosses sad little fingers*

You know what they say...nothing ventured, nothing gained
I'm almost 29 and I've been single my whole life....and everyone thinks I'm a lesbian. I feel his pain.
I regret to this day, not telling this guy how I felt about him...he went and met his "soul mate" (gag) and got married. I'm an idiot. So, I say, tell people how much you like/love them!!!!!
Geez, Christy, I hardly think you're a spinster (sp?) at 29. I didn't get married until I was 32, & I was still living a home at the time. We all know you're just holding out for Lindsey to become available anyway.
Deanna, I don't see anything wrong with e-mailing him. I hope it all works out.

Deanna, I'm late coming to this, but I would have TOTALLY supported your going for it. What have you got to lose?? NOTHING. What do you have to gain? Everything!! And I'm dying to hear what happens.
Caveat: this comes from a girl who just sent an email two days ago to her ex of 14 years, whom she dumped, and whose heart she shattered. He stood me up three years ago when we were supposed to get together. He hasn't answered my latest email. My heart is breaking, but I don't regret sending it. I really hope your guy responds.... I'm such a pathetic romantic.
I've also recently fallen really badly for my friend's friend. His girlfriend is in Switzerland. I LOVE him..... :( Did I mention I'm a tortured romantic. The more impossible and unrequited, the better.... sigh.

Deanna, this is sooo exciting! i totally support you in emailing this guy- if he has stayed in your mind after all these years then who knows? maybe something is in the cards for you guys.... even if it IS just a friendship as adults... or maybe he decides to move to NY and marry you? you never know!
i had a crush on my 7th grade science teacher... his name was Mr. Labnow... i swear... we'd always joke to him "Hey Mr. Labnow are we going to do a lab now?" on Friday afternoons after school i would walk from my house to blockbuster to rent movies and i had to pass by the school... i'd alway stop and see what fun projects he was concocting in his classroom- he was always the last teacher to leave campus. ew... looking back- that could have been bad... but i was 12 or 13, so i didn't think of things like that.

Totally go for it!!!!
Pip
And? And? And?
Not that I'm impatient or anything

Thanks! That's totally me too....tortured romantic...I've had various crushes through the years of people I can't have lol.....and as you said, "the more impossible and unrequited, the better" I can totally relate to that!
Good luck with your e-mail situation too....if you just e-mailed him three days ago he may just be taking time to absord what you wrote - and think about his reply ya know?
I'm trying SO hard not to be impatient...
----
And Mari --
No word yet - but I e-mailed him close to five on a Friday - so I'm not even going to look for anything until the weekdays come 'round again :D

Me tooooo.... But I fear, at this point, I won't get a response. Mine was what you'd qualify as breezy, too... Frankly, I'd like to think he'd at least answer my email. Even if he doesn't actually want to communicate... :(
Hope your guy has a little more class..
Unrequiteds unite! :o
