Taking a cue from Tracye's thread, what are your favorite happy songs?

My biggest one is Carly Simon's Let the River Run. I *love* that song, always have. Another one that puts a huge grin on my face is Sparkling Diamonds from Moulin Rouge.

"The More I See You" - Nancy Sinatra

Her new album is faaaaaaabulous.

"Mad About You" - Belinda Carlisle

I think her whole "Live Your Life Be Free" album ranks as being one of the happiest, silliest albums ever. I Plead Insanity, especially.

Omigod! I forgot about Erasure! I still have one of their tapes. They're the only Europop fag (no offense intended, of course) band I ever liked!!!! I'll have to bust that out... :xoxo:

They're freaking awesome! And I was immediately offended when you wrote Europop fag. So, I'm glad you clarified!    See, the laughing guy means I was kidding! Made sure I clarified!

Love to Hate You, Blue Savannah, Star, A Little Respect. The list goes on and on! They are so great! Apparently Andy Bell (singer) is dying of AIDS though. Super sad. Their new album is very reflective. Apparently he's pretty sick now. Sigh... A world without Andy Bell is a sad, sad world!

Oh, no!!! That is sad. Yeah, I liked them because they were all fast and fun, not depressive and drony like the other ones I can think of. You know how everyone likes the Cure, and Morissey, and the Smiths, and, uh, whoever else? I don't like them. (well, I like a few songs by the Smiths for a brief period, but I was just trying to be cool)
Oh, another one I like is Bronski Beat.

run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away! I totally sing that as I walk down the stairs to the pool. remember the video where Jimmy Sommerville has a boner for that swimmer guy! Well, that's me! So many cute swimmers. So few towels to cover my crotch!

okay, seriously. i gotta go to bed. I was up until 4:00 last night. Went to The Killers show here. They were okay. Flavor of the month but like six months ago. So, not that great. Anyway, then I came back home and drank some gin and played some cards. Then went out to a bar and stayed there 'til it closed. Then came home at 3:00 and watched Live at Red Rocks until 4:00. Yep, woke up pretty, pretty, pretty hung over. But it was all worth it!

  Me, too, the difference is, last night I didn't do anything fun, I went to class. And tonight I just got back from class, and won't be doing anything fun again. Except recording myself singing. Laugh worthy, but not as good as going out. :xoxo: A lot cheaper, though.

I'd like to add -
Bette Davis Eyes
It's not a happy song, in and of itself, but it makes me very, very happy. I don't know why I love this song, and it's 5 notes, so much, but I sure do. I just think it's so beautiful. Sure, it pays homage to my favorite actress, but I think I'd love it anyway. Those five notes are just sublime. doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo.
Not to mention Kim Carnes's vocal quality. yummy sexy.

I love anthemic songs!

Now don't laugh but I really love "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. I know it's cheesy, please forgive, but for some reason that song just lifts me up. And now every time I hear it I think about the skating rink scene in the movie Monster. Great movie, btw.

but I really dig Be My Wife by David Bowie as a happy song, even tohugh the lyrics are sort-of sad

Yeah, David doesn't have a lot of "happy" songs in his catalogue. The man was not a happy camper for many years. If I had to pick Bowie songs I'd pick "Changes," "Days," "Watch that Man (LOVE THIS SONG!!)," "Hold on to Yourself," "Modern Love" and "Suffragette City."

Yeah, that was during his Trilogy stage and he didnt seem really happy, but then again it wasnt Mr. Thin White Duke. Modern Love is a good bowie song it makes me dance

Before I name one-I have to ask Lux why he is using Munch's "The Scream" as his avator??? Are you just a little stressed <smile>

Anyway Happy songs...
Goofy but happy-
"Don't worry be happy..." obvious choice, but I haven't seen it yet
the "Ma na ma na, da da da da da, ma na ma na...." song from the Muppets :blob1: :blob1: :blob1: (just try and tell me that reference didn't make you smile!)
and last but not least....."when you wish apon a star" my fav. rendition is by Kate Bush, but it is so Peter Pan and happy, could be sung by anyone ;)

anyway,

Definitely the harder question to answer... I much prefer the angst.

But happy? Hmmm....

Crazy in Love - Beyonce. Just TRY to sit still and listen to that.

Same with all those Abba songs mentioned above. Some of the lyrics are sad, but, man, they make you feel so good!!

And any good Irish, Scottish, or Nova Scotian music with lots of fiddles and guitars.

Have you heard Erasure's cover of this song! There's a really crappy reggae rap bit in it that is super lame, but they do a mean Abba cover! I guess mean is the wrong word. They do an awfully perky Abba cover!

One of my very favourite happy songs is "Move On Up" by Curtis Mayfield. The most amazing thing about it is that it's in a minor key, and still is very uplifting.

Sex Shooter - Apollonia 6 (always puts me in a good mood...probably because it's so inane)
Sister Honey - Stevie (how can this not make you happy...or at least laugh :p )
I'll Kiss You - Cyndi Lauper
Too Funky - George Michael (probably more for the video though. My sister and I always used to laugh at the model in the metal outfit with half her butt hanging out  )
Beyond The Limit - Debbie Harry
Baby I'm Burnin' - Dolly Parton (Dolly Does Disco! Classic!)
Over & Over - Madonna
Sweet Dreams - Maria Bello (from the Duets soundtrack. I think I might love this version better than the original  )
Who Do You Think You Are - Spice Girls ( :o I think I've just realised how bad my taste can get)
Indigo - Moloko
