Sorry that I have not yet found a decent article not from a biased site about this issue. I'm looking. But here's an obviously anti-gay site that posted an article about it.

Texas Bans Homosexual Foster Parents

AUSTIN, TX., April 22, 2005., (LifeSiteNews.com) Texan politicians voted 81-to-58 to ensure foster children are placed in the homes of normal parents, prohibiting gays, lesbians and bisexuals from becoming foster parents. The decision came as a result of an amendment added to the Child Protective Services reform bill (SB 6) unanimously passed by the state Senate, after which it went to the House of Representatives. Several Democrats argued against the amendment.

As a result of the amendment any individual who applied to be a foster parent, or a foster parent whose performance is being evaluated, must list whether he or she is homosexual or bisexual. If the answer is yes then the state would ban him or her from becoming a foster parent. The state also would not be able to place a child with that foster parent or allow a child to remain in the care with that foster parent.

According to Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville "Senate Bill 6 is an omnibus Child Protective Services reform bill that calls for, among other things, private child placing agencies to recruit all foster and adoptive homes and arrange all adoptions for abused and neglected children."

Homosexual special interest and lobby groups were quick to condemn the amendment.

I am so angry about this. I found out about it from watching "The Daily Show" last night and I was just enraged. It just gets worse and worse because apparently the law allows them to decide if someone is lying about his or her sexual orientation and then deny the person foster children based on that. Also, on "The Daily Show" they showed this "debate" between represesntatives from the opposite sides that was broadcasted on CNN, and the anti-gay woman said this was "based on science" because a study in Illinois showed that children are 11 times more likely to be abused by homosexual parents than heterosexual ones.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

How can people get away with such crap really, I mean it is ridiculour calling heterosexual couples "normal". I mean some homosexual couples would be more traditional in the values they hold than some of the heterosexual couples of today.

The whole idea is just disgusting, I am straight but it upsets me to see groups of people being discriminated against just because they are different.

My aunty is a single, lesbian Mum now I personally wouldn't have let her have her child, not because she is a lesbian but because she doesn't provide a stable environment for her daughter.

And the idea that homosexuals abuse more than heterosexuals,

Bill bans homosexuals from being foster parents

NATALIE GOTT

Associated Press

AUSTIN - Gays, lesbians and bisexuals would not be allowed to become foster parents under an amendment added to the Child Protective Services reform bill tentatively approved in the House on Tuesday.

Rep. Robert Talton, R-Pasadena, sponsored the amendment approved on a 81-58 vote.

"I don't think it is right for young children to be exposed to this type of behavior when they are young and innocent," Talton said. "It is our responsibilty to make sure that we protect our most vulnerable children and I don't think we are doing that if we allow a foster parent that is homosesxual or bisexual."

Several Democrats argued against the amendment.

"We are here to put children first, not ideology," Rep. Mike Villareal, D-San Antonio said. "How are we going to implement Representative Talton's inquisition?"

Under the amendment, an applicant to be a foster parent or a foster parent whose performance is being evaluated must list whether he or she is homosexual or bisexual.

If the applicant is, the state would ban him or her from becoming a foster parent. The state also would not be able to place a child with that foster parent or allow a child to remain in the care with that foster parent.

Villareal tried to pass an amendment that would ask the applicant to list their sexual orientation but not disqualify him or her from becoming a foster parent because of his or her sexual orientation.

Rep. Garnet Coleman, D-Houston, questioned why the Legislature would want to eliminate one potential foster care provider with a clean, safe home because "of one characteristic."

Talton said he believed it was important that children be able to establish their own sexuality.

"What I am trying to prevent is a learned behavior," Talton said.

The overall bill was tentatively approved on a 126-16 vote with two present not voting. It is expected to get final approval on Wednesday.

The Senate version of the CPS bill does not ban homosexuals or bisexuals from becoming foster parents.

The Child Protective Services bill is SB 6.

All Americans must be fundamental christians according to these people and in the current political environment (thanks to Karl Rove) it is political suicide to suggest otherwise. Thus, political short sightedness at the expense of a harmless group of non-mailstream is the price paid. Sad - very true.

I need to run off to class but before I go I want to just say (though y'all already know, I'm sure) that it makes me feel so good to know I have y'all's support and that I can post information like this and it disturbs y'all as much as it disturbs me. I could bring this up in one of my classes or at some social gathering here and the only people who would speak up would say, "What's wrong with that?" and then go off on "people who choose such lifestyles," and they would say really rude and hateful things, not even realizing that I'm one of those gays they're talking about. It's a different world here. It's great to have all of you and this place. :)

I do support you all the way, but hey, straight, gay whatever, we are all human, and although we feel it for different people, we are all able to express and feel that great emotion of love, and that binds us together tighter than many imagine. Gay love and straight love aren't different they are no different because it's the LOVE that matters, but hey what would I know, maybe I look at it too simply because I don't discriminate, all I know is that I seem not in the minority here, but in the minority in general, so I must be wrong heh

Ugh. This weekend my boyfriend and I were driving into downtown, and there's a huge billboard supporting this bill. "Protect Texas Children," it says. We both thought that was pretty ballsy. And in Austin, too, which is supposed to be the one oasis in Texas where the fundamentalist nutwads don't predominate. I'm starting to not feel very safe here...

That's initially how I felt, but then I remembered that there are a lot of Texans who would also disagree with this load of BS: Ann Richards, Willie Nelson, and Larry "J.R. Ewing/Major Nelson" Hagman to name but three.

Still, whenever these types of BS bills go through (like a constitutional ban on same-sex unions that was passed in my Ohio in November), I begin to hear a song in my head. It begins like this: "O' Canada, Our home and native land..." Heck, the same week Ohio banned same-sex unions, Saskatchewan legalized same-sex marriages! As a straight guy, one might ask why I feel so concerned. Well, for me, it's a civil rights issue, and an issue of dealing with reality. I came from a broken home. It would not have been to my advantage to have the traditional two-parent household. Yet, I came out okay. So I know first hand that their argument that all children need a two-parent home is BS. My other concern is that these (im)moralists are basically turning our society into a series of massive high school clicks. Well, I'm sorry, but I graduated.

What do you toofaloof, ding dongs expect? I wouldn’t want one of my children to be raised in a home with two people claiming to be strap on adventurers. Look at the way you act. “This board is a gold mine for profiling quacks!” I’ve done it. I’ve been here for years watching. You run in packs, waiting to pounce on those not thinking your way. You profile, then bash. You’re guilty of it too.

Just about every thread turns into a twisted conversation with sexual chatter. I remember starting a thread asking if your character on the board was different in real life. Most of you mentioned you act this way daily. Remember your perv thread? Look at your conversations. Look at your pride parades. LMAO You expect society to take you serious? Look at the way you pick apart other people. Damn, look at how you pick apart the band members. Are you just to damn dumb to realize the rest of society reads and sees the way you act?

You cry and whines like kids, and you expect others to allow you to raise children. Sheesh, wake up. Your minds are clouded. If you didn’t waste so much time sniffing each others butts you might be able to see straight. :distress:

With that said “How’s everyone doing?”

We had a bill similar to this one up for a vote in our TN State Legislature. Thank God, it was voted down. This just infuriates me!!!!!! You can't tell me that these children wouldn't be better off with two people of any gender who care about them. This is just straight forward sexual bias! These people who are for this bill could only be doing this out of hate, because nothing else makes sense. States all across the country have a very difficult time finding foster parents for children, and this law is stating that they would rather these children suffer and not have a place to go and stay in a state home than to place them with two, homosexual people who do want them. It has truly gone to far when you are punishing needy children to advance a biased agenda which is build on ridiculous ideals. Even worse is to do it in the name of Christianity which would supposedly never want to harm children. Doesn't the song go....Jesus loves the little child? Not in Texas!

Wow, as though you have suddenly became the Dr. Phil of the damn board. I dont mean to be rude, but if you dont like what people are discussing then dont come on here. I mean no one is forcing you to look at peoples conversations, and I really do not find anything wrong with them.
I mean everyone has their own different opinions, but SOME..not all on here do not criticize nor say "Well, your a f-ing faggot"

About your gay issue opinion. I really do not see how a bunch of homosexuals with a sexual life using straps would really affect a child? Maybe I am wrong...maybe if two men raise a child they will have the odd tendency to have an obession with gay culture.

but, I am glad that you have expressed your opinion and I do respect it.

So does this mean that anyone with a tendency for sex in a form other than missionary should not raise children? People who like anal shouldn't raise kids I suppose. How far does it go? Perhaps we need a list of fetishes and preferences with a corresponding approval or non-approval for parenting roles. The scat bunch will be ruled out immediately no doubt.

Does a preference or even occasional tendency to take it up the rear imply an inability to provide housing, food, love etc? This is a clever conclusion, do tell how we came to this. Perhaps it implies that they will be inclined to give it to their children up the rear. I know most straight couples give it to their children missionary style so this is the natural conclusion.

Thus, my love, is the sad, sad state of America  People, who have no clue as to what Christ (whom I believe in) actually represented purport to adhere to His Word. He never said one word about gay people and He made the New Covenant - such is the hypocrisy of the new religious right and they make me sick.

And THAT is me bashing without abandon America.

My involvement has been a work in progress, I have evolved from just reading about issues to signing petitions to actually going into the halls of the legislature and committee rooms to speak out for change.

I abhor the tactics of the religious right to insert their morality into our laws piecemeal so that we are inching ever closer to a feudal state. What is scary to me is that so many young people arent more alarmed. There are quite a lot of conservatives who have no problem at all with the current state of right wing politics. Many are eager for the day when THEIR version of morality is forced on us ALL.

very scary indeed.

That said, yes there are some screwed up gay folks...but guess what....there are screwed up straight folks too!

I've met many a crazy in both worlds....I think it's disgusting to prohibit someone from being a Foster parent based on sexual orientation this way - it's just unacceptable.

and - it makes the strangest and most unlikely people allies for brief periods of time - which is just bizarre.

That gives me faith honestly sometimes...nothing softens my heart more than seeing people who normally oppose each other doing something to benefit the community.

There are two former PM's in Australia from opposing politics yet they have become best friends because they support a Replublic. Not only were they opposing but one was responsible for getting the other sacked! (The only time in our history).

touche' my friend

I keep a faith in people that some people call stupid...I call it human nature.

I guess maybe that is why I can't see why a homosexual couple would be any less appropriate at loving a child than a heterosexual one. I don't have statistics but I think you could pretty safely say the proportion of kids abused in any form in a heterosexual home will be higher than that in a homosexual home, makes you think ey.

There is no correlation between sexuality and sexual abuse of one's own children or any children for that matter, and a true pedophile a sort of independant sexuality that is interested only in pre pubescant children, the control and domination of which is the attraction not the sex ( http://www.prevent-abuse-now.com/stats.htm ) - Moreover, if the standard, which is suggested, for placing children is no deviating from anything other than sex for the sole purpose of procreation (no fellatio, no cunnilingus, no masterbation, etc. ) - then almost all humans would be prevented from adopting children. When this is pointed out, the religious right gets indignant and then instead of addressing that issue, it spins it and screams Leviticus says God hates homosexuality and, therefore, so should the state and everyone else. Most people then let their prejudice learned essentially from age 10 against homosexuals take over. Most are taught oir have abserved that society considers any gay act as horrid. So, it is easier to listen to that gut reaction than to say, "ya know - I am just as sexually deviant (their word) in a heterosexual manner so what is the big deal." I think it is rank hypocrisy.

I also think that the standard for adopting or fostering a child should be the ability to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, and love - all of which are not in any way limited to heterosexuality - in fact, many heterosexuals with their own children are incapable of providing that in any satisfactory manner. Yet all heterosexuals get the presumption that because their sex is cleaner than homosexual sex, they will be better parents.

It also does not help that the Roman Catholic Church and many others have equated child molesters to gay people, which is wrong because men, who are the vast majority of all abusers, molest both girls and boys. Yet, unlike homosexuality, all of heterosexuality is not shunned when a man molests a little girl. So, we see the hypocrisy again.

Finally, people say public actions of gay people lead to their aborrence. I think the same could be said for many heterosexual public acts. I mean look at "Girls Gone Wild" and just about any music video these days. All of that contains blatant sexuality and nudity. Look at the way teenage girls dress these days. It is just as provocative as some shirtless gay gay walking down the street. Yet, heterosexuals are not shunned for it the way homosexuals are when some guy wears leather in public, which BTW heterosexuals do as well.

In the end, people may say they tolerate, like, etc. homosexuals, but in the end, they are not willing to put up with them on any socially relevant level as witnessed by the 70+ % public denial of the right to marry and therefore get the benefits automatically provided to heterosexual couples.

Sad - very true.

It is and I totally agree with the whole thing, especially that of being able to provide shelter. I come from a generally disadvantaged community (I am thankfully not as such) and so I have seen people around who realistically would have been better off with any form of love.

Unfortunately Double Standards always seem to rule, there is such little justification for prejudice against homosexuals it scares me people could be so naive and stupid, because it leads to worse, it leads to crime and hurt.

I am also an optimist. However, I am a realist at the same time and I have been severely disappointed so many times that my optimism tends to get clouded by cynicism.

Of course. Humans love to revel in their fear. It will justify anything. Anyone in power will latch onto using fear to control others in a heartbeat. It's just so easy to do and one of the very basic characteristics of humanity.

I think the simple fact that one would actually CARE about a foster child would be enough to qualify them for the job. The five things you listed all come under the umbrella of just wanting to take care of them.

They don't see it that way. They see homosexuality as deviant behavior and heterosexuality as acceptable behavior. The two are not on equal footing to the fundementalist religious person. A heterosexual who molests a little kid is a pedophile and pedophiles are in the same category as homosexuals, whereas heterosexuals are not in that category. Therefore, they think they are not hypocrites. It's the reason why that twat Lynn Cheney was so upset that John Kerry referred to Mary Cheney as a lesbian. Mary Cheney IS a lesbian, but Lynn Cheney thinks that being a lesbian is the equivalent of being a pedophile and thus stating that she is a lesbian is an insult.

The ignorance of the religious right is astounding.

Finally, people say public actions of gay people lead to their aborrence. I think the same could be said for many heterosexual public acts. I mean look at "Girls Gone Wild" and just about any music video these days. All of that contains blatant sexuality and nudity. Look at the way teenage girls dress these days. I think you are a little bit wrong here. America, in general, is extremely prudish and puritanical. All those "Girls Gone Wild" chicks receive just as much scorn from the general public as flaming queens, etc. do- same thing with obese people. However, I will agree with you in that there is a huge disconnect out there and the hypocritical disconnect is this....

Despite the illusion that straight guys in general try to project, most men (gays included) are pigs. It's the nature of the beast. Men love sex and all the things that come with it. Thus, "Girls Gone Wild", internet porn and the gay porn industry. When Jimmy Carter said the infamous "I have lusted in my heart" he offended everyone because he told the simple truth that most guys refuse to admit. So, "Girls Gone Wild" chicks are skanky sluts on the outside, but secretly those same guys who say they're skanks actually want to f*ck them. This is not to say that all guys are like that, however the billion dollar porn industry gives one a good idea of how common this attitude must be.

In the end, people may say they tolerate, like, etc. homosexuals, but in the end, they are not willing to put up with them on any socially relevant level as witnessed by the 70+ % public denial of the right to marry and therefore get the benefits automatically provided to heterosexual couples.

I know America is prudish. But, ny point is the heterosexual population may publicly eschew "Girls Gone Wild" but they still buy it in private. I mean the outrage at Janet's boob was only overshadowed by the demand to see it and the millions of TIVO downloads. Thus, the heterosexual population says one thing and does another in that aspect - hypocrites. But, I see what you are saying

I didn't have time to read this whole thread, but where do people get the idea homosexuals are violent or abusive? All the homosexuals I know are pretty passive. Unless abusive is commenting on someone's fashion faux pas then I am confused.

Is there any chance that the instigator...1/2 insane (sorry, but I think that person is all the way insane)...is a New Jersey resident Ledgie who was banned and has come back under a pseudonym?

Can we check the IP address?
