I have never known stress like raising these three babies! It is so incredibly emotionally draining. And I think my kids are pretty good kids. But they drive me to want to scream at the top of my lungs and cry at least five times a day. They just don't do what I want them to do. They argue and are unkind to each other and whine, "Hold me. Hold me." about 50 times a day. They throw fits, not to mention the hours of battling it sometimes takes to get them to clean their room. This makes them sound horrible and they really are well-behaved kids in general. It's just they aren't born that way and it takes a real war to get them to come under the submission of me and the high calling of Jesus Christ.
I feel like I'm spanking them all day long and yet most days it feels like that's not enough," confesses Whelchel. "I can't spank them any more. I can't encourage and praise them any more. I could always pray more but I'm beginning to feel like nothing really is going to reduce the stress level around here besides time.
She gets the Mom of the Year award. I'd hate to see what she did to Tootie when she got lippy. It's them darn "smart pills" she's hocking on the telly these days, I think.

Spanking is not child abuse you boob :wavey: I get that beating is, but not all spanking is.
But - that post of her's is just plain weird  Interestingly, I have seen more far right Christian's beat the living crap out of their kids. I will never get it.

I had the feeling you would post that!
I'm not really totally against spanking, either, although I don't think it's absolutely necessary.

Depends on the state you live in, dear. Maybe not down South, but up here it most definitely is.
(But I was being dramatic for effect ;) )

I have her blog in my Favorites, it's fabulous. A couple of weeks ago, she was a total mess because she thought her son was queer.

How is that child abuse and who is Blair? I thought you had some shocking new case against the PM. Anyway, how is that child abuse?
I did too when I first saw it - great minds think alike :xoxo:

You cannot spank you kids in MA? I have seen many a spanking on the Nantucket ferry and deserved at that
Seriously, I think time oput only goes so far and corporeal punishment should rarely if ever be used. I mean I do not spank my Scotties and use my voice to punish them. So, I cannot imagine spanking a child.

I used to read them all the time when they were travelling around the country. Scrapbooks, the bible and those darn kids! Perhaps you should have sent them to public school so you'd have a little more "me" time, eh?

Of course you can spank 'em, but if you get reported, you better be prepared. Child abuse laws in this state are something else. They're a tad ridiculous, imo. Kids are automatically appointed lawyers if a report of child abuse comes in, at the expense of the parent.

I don't think I could ever spank a kid, but I don't have them, so I can't say.

I hate too permissive parenting much more than spanking. Although, I don't approve of hauling off and whacking your kid everytime you feel like it. But your kids should be a little afraid of you, or at least afraid of consequences. Not that spanking is the perfect way, of course. I mean, whatever the consequences are, they should be consistent, and painful to the child. (not necessarily physically painful).

Honey, this is Lisa Whelchel we're talking about. She probably thought the clones of Jesus Christ passed through her holy birth canal.

I just snorted  I think she thought that in homeschooling her kids for years that she was protecting them from the evils of the world -_- Thinking that keeping your children in your home 24/7 is going to make them better people is only going to cause you and your kids to snap. Her kids are going to grow up to be pot-smoking, alcohol-drinking, sex-crazed maniacs (either that or they'll need a lot of therapy). Forget Veggietales...they've got a copy of South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut hidden in that new Texas house and are itchin for mom to go to yet another scrapbooking class (where she will document the day before in pictures and witty captions) so they can finally see what their friends back in that unholy place called California were talking about.

"and it takes a real war to get them to come under the submission of me and the high calling of Jesus Christ."
This is insane. Jesus doesn't want a war for his "high calling". Well, I can't speak for him but he was definitely for peace. Oh I just don't get this type of thinking. I know it's frustrating but you just cannot "control" kids and that is a good thing. Because if you can then that is what will happen to them their whole lives.
Hmm, perhaps I should have just chuckled at this? Maybe I've taken it too seriously.

Children need discipline and spanking is so not child abuse. I was spanked as a kid (not often, as I was an  ;) ) when I was outta line. I was a mouthy kid (still am sometimes).
BTW, I too thought this was about Tony Blair when I read the subject line.

The woman is a ****ing psycho. I have to deal with these pod people all day long at my job. Nothing is more excruciating than walking down the entry hall at my job and seeing the framed "WWJD" bracelet on the wall.... oy......
I posted this before, but here it is again. Yes, fundamentalist christians are ****ed up royally.
The same magazine that was presented to me had an "advice" column written by none other than Blair herself- Lisa Whelchel. The column is called "Mom Time"- here's an excerpt:
"Dear Lisa,
My 16 year old son's more interested in the arts than in athletics, seems to have no interes in girls, and doesn't have many male friends at school or church. With all the puclicity about homosexuality today, we can't help but worry our son could be gay. What should we do?
You just described my husband, Steve, as a 16 year old. He was first chair in band, never dated, and spent more time working and studying than hanging out with the guys. Today we have a healthy 16 year marriage and three wonderful children. So just because your son doesn't resemble the sterotypical high school boy doesn't mean he's gay.
Two common threads exist among those who struggle with homosexual tendencies. First, does your son exhibit any signs of childhood molestation or incest? If you suspect this is the case, seek help from a local christion counselor.
Then look at the father/son (and for girls, the mother/daughter) relationship. Does you son feel accepted by his father? Is your husband a jock who rejects or even ridicules your son's interest in the arts? Perhaps your son's father isn't even in the picture, either by divorce, absence, death or passivity.
The father holds the key to affirming a boy's manhood. Without that blessing, a gaping hole is left in a young man's life. Fortunately, a healing substitute often can be found in a strong father figure. If not, some young men attempt to "cannibalize" other men through homosexual actions to fill that void.
I know from personal friendships it's possible for someone who struggles with homosexual temptation or who has embraced that lifestyle to find freedom and strength to change. The answer is first found in receiveng redemption through jesus christ. From there I recommend logging onto www.exodus-international.org or www.lovewonout.com for further information and direction."

This entry is from an old journal Lisa wrote when her children were much younger. I am a mother of three children who are now grown up and have their own lives. Lisa is venting about her frustrations as a young mother. I read her blog too and she seems to be a great mom who is trying the best she can to raise her kids. They are teenagers now so their problems are different than when they were five years old. Lisa and her hubby, I am sure, write in Journals more often now because they do have teenagers. I don't envy her at all. That is probably the worse stage of being a parent   I just wish her and her hubby good luck in the next few years. They are probably going to go through their own personal hell raising teenagers and I hope and pray she doesn't have to go through what so many other parents have gone through with their kids. No matter how much church or home-schooling those kids get, their kids friends will be influencing their lives more than their parents think they are. I know!!! Thank God, my kids made it so far to ages 25, 21 and 19 and I am still alive to tell about it :blob1: I wish all those parents out there good luck and those without children need to be quiet since they have NO IDEA what it is like to raise children every single day. When you come home from the hospital with a new baby, they sure don't hand out how-to-manuals. Raising a child is trial and error and if writing in a journal helps to vent than that is much better than leaving them with grandparents all the time or abandoning them. Lisa Cauble (Whelchel) seems to be a much happier person than those other has-been stars who are no longer with us or on some reality tv show trying to get those 15 mins of fame back. Being a mother is hard work and if you have NEVER raised children on a daily basis, don't put down someone who has and is trying to be a good mother ;)

Lemme tell ya... I had to smack mine on the bottom yesterday. I usually give her one too many chances before I do it, but I mean what I say. And for the most part, she has that figured out.
In my opinion, it sure as hell ain't child abuse. I was beat on a daily basis (OK that's stretching it a bit) and I turned out just fine. It just depends on how hard, how often, and what reasons you do it for.
