Kitty, that is. I found her at work in the classifieds. So, I went to this man's house (holy **** did he have a nice house... hopefully I'll have that after being employed there for 25 years) and here is this beautiful black cat. They named her Kelly (WTF?) I watched her over there for a few, and she is so nice and calm. I noticed she does play a little bit; Sara was playing around some with her. She is 4 years old, spayed, declawed, and completely up to date on her shots. I got her for free. They got a dog, and the cat was petrified. She wouldn't come out. So, they decided to give her away. So, we brought her home, and the first place I sat her was in the litter box. She sat there for a minute, and went behind the washer, and hasen't come out since... poor thing. She's in kitty culture shock. I'll post a picture as soon as she is comfortable and coming out and such! Wish me luck!

That's so funny! This Saturday, I'm going to get a cat- my boss and her husband have to give away their cat, because it's clashing with their dog and their new baby... they were going to take him to a shelter, so I decided to take him. He's 5, sweet-tempered, neutered and declawed. I was nervous about getting a kitten because I've never had a pet on my own before, so really it's perfect. My boss was so relieved that she wouldn't have to take him to a shelter that she offered to pay for vet visits if needed and food and kitty litter. No way will I take that, but I thought it was sweet.
Good luck with the cat!!

Well, I just got up, and she has moved from behind the washer to behind the couch. So, at least I know she's been out and about in the middle of the night. She'll come around in a couple of days.

Well, I was going to go to the humane society, but I really don't have the money to shell out, and I'm looking to get 2 cats, so that would be around $150. So, I figured I would find the free one's that may very well wind up at the shelter eventually. I figure if I'm going to have one, I may as well have two.
Good luck with your kitty! Show us some pics when you can.

though i must first state that i am a "dog person" - i almost ended up with a cat last year right after i moved. i'm out all day and i figured that a dog would be just waaay too lonely, so the idea of getting a cat crossed my mind when i saw an advert for one from a newly-deceased neighbor (i live in a retirement community :woohoo: ). when i went to visit the cat, it had wedged itself behind the toilet and wasn't about to show himself. one of the other betties took it and he has come around nicely.
the moral of that story is: congrats, i'm sure that after he gets used to the sights and smells of your place he'll be fine.

You live in a retirement community....and your location is shady pines

Maria - congrats on the cat!!
She'll come around - I hear that cats adjust to new environments rather quickly :D I can't wait to see pictures...
I, myself, am a dog person - mostly because I'm way allergic to cats...but they're cute - I wish I could have them

Congrats on the new baby! I'm sure she'll do fine! You gotta change that name, though! :)
Maybe leave a little food and water at the end of the couch, or just past it a few inches, to lure her out?

Congrats!
Always thrilled to hear it when someone adopts a pet rather than buying one! (Both of my cats, all three rats, my toad, and one of my bettas were adopted) In no time she'll go from hiding from you to ruling the roost. (You do know that pets, especially cats, own you and not the other way 'round, right?)
Also - Kelly is an awful name for a cat, but don't rename her right away. Get to know her and a great name will come to you.

I don't think I want to rename her, though. This morning, I swear, every time I would say her name, she would meow. That's how I found her behind the couch. So, it may stay, it may not. It is an aweful name, though.

Belly is great, because the chances for the cat to eventually chub up a little is pretty good. Plus, it's just cute. "c'mere, belly! who'sabelly? littlebellybunsocute!"
see?

When I took Raven in for Sean he was under my bed for like a week. But he came around eventually. Kelly will come out soon. How sweet of you to take her in, I love kitties! I bet she's gorgeous and I can't wait to see pics!

My cats? They're bad kitties. Especially Tiny Tim.
Who's a bad kitty?
oh look at the kitty-kitty!
you's a bad bad kitty!
Then he purrs and flops over on his side and I play with his belly...
Look at that gut!
Look at that gut!
I got your gut!
Then he swats at my hand and I pick him up and give him a big kiss right between the ears (which he hates). :)

I just wish mine would come out of hiding. She'll come around. I think she's still behind the couch. I put my hand down there, and she jumped up immediately and started loving on me. She really is a sweetie, she's just paranoid!

Mufy is a bad boy. He knocked over all of my CDs this morning, about 300. He jumped on top of the towers which are VERY unstable and they came crashing down, almost on him but he narrowly escaped. I can't have anything that looks climbable around that isn't or he will waste himself. Ahh, the joys of being a kitty Mom.

Did it scare the absolute crap out of him?
Once when I was house-sitting I was petting this person's cat...well then I got up - the cat followed me - then it randomly came right in front of me and plopped down- I couldn't stop in time - I tripped over the cat - fell but scared the living hell out of the cat - it wouldn't come near me the rest of the day

Yes, it scared the crap out of him. He climbed up on my desk and stared at the fallen towers for a while and then he went and hid.

Yeah, and I didn't even yell at him. I just went, "Oh no Mufy, you did NOT". But I sort of let him know that it wasn't good by not doing my usual "Oh Mufy you're so cute" routine all morning. Poor guy. I felt bad for him. He IS zippy! I love dogs too, both dogs and cats have their own good points.

It might take her a few days but she will come around. I love cats and I have a big, fat, longhaired black boy cat named PUDDIN, that we called Puddy. He is adorable and a complete oaf. He lounges around all day and then wants to play all night. I usually am woken up at least once with him kneading my stomach and purring in my face. He always walks on my keyboard when I am trying to type too. I just adore cats. My husband used to hate them but even he likes Puddy. I have to laugh because I think cats can tell when people are not sure about them. He used to just reach out and tag my husband around the ankles as he would walk by the cat. Puddy would just hold on and then start licking his foot. After awhile, the husband fell in love with him. :D
Oh and the name Kelly rocks!
