Can you beleive it has been 2 years since SYW came out (April 15, 2003)? It doesn't seem that long to me. So, now that we have had the album for several years, what are everyones feelings on the album?

I am finding the album more and more romantic as time goes on. When you really start listening to the lyrics you can really understand all the layers. Like SYW- it such a romantic song. Being so in love with someone that "you become someone else in an instant" is just such a cool thought. A lot of the songs I never liked, like Red Rover, I am now in love with. Thrown Down is another song I was never too keen on. But I love it now! The lyrics are so beautiful.

What are your thoughts on the album after all this time?

I think the lyrics to the song SYW are brilliant and they make me and others at once just feel happy, which is what she said her intent was in that she was writing about being in love so much that you just want to burst into song because you are so happy.

I think SYW is the end of an era. It is not my fav. record by them, but it is one I cherish.

It is a happy little song isn't it?

What do you mean the end of the era? And don't say they will never make a record again because I will start crying!

I think age must be considered. At the historical rate they go, LB and La Nicks will be at least 60 and Mick even older. Not that they cannot be great at that age, but a long long world tour would be more difficult. Plus, they are not exactly in a hurry now to get back together. So, we shall see. Personally, I would love one more record.

I'm as enamoured with the album as ever. Still listen to it almost as frequently as I did when it was first released.

Even the three songs I wasn't wild about... "Red Rover," "Silver Girl," and "Say Goodbye"... have all grown on me considerably.
(I should say that I always loved the lyrics and vocals for "Say Goodbye," I just wasn't crazy with the way Lindsey chose to approach the song. I felt that the vocal melody and the guitar melody sounded as if they were going two different directions, and worked against each other. So I used one of my computer programs to slow it down a *smidge*... similar to the tempo of the live versions... and it's now a favorite.)

It's a great album, and, much like 'Tusk,' it requires an investment from its listeners... but it pays off in spades. :)

HB, Say You Will! I really like this album, I think it is stellar. It's been on heavy rotation on my ishuffle. Except Silver Girl, of course...Lindsey's contributions are especially brill, IMO. I can't get enough of Miranda, Steal Your Heart Away (which makes me both happy and sad, and the melody is just gorg.) Murrow, Come, Red Rover. Uberyummy. And from La Nicks, RTTG, Thrown Down, Goodbye Baybeh...so, so, lovely. *sigh*. <3

That's exactly what I think about Say Goodbye! I think the guitar is brill, the vocal is brill, but together I don't love them. :wavey:

i loved this album when it came out and in the last two years it has left my disc changer... never. i hate 'silver girl' just as much as i did when i first heard it, the flute is cool but i still hate it. the rest is great IMO and it is definitely right up there with Tusk as most-listened-to-in-its-entirety-minus-silver-girl album. SYW (the song) immediately makes my day better and when i hear it while shopping, i feel like it's a message straight from stevie "buy that shirt mariel, buy it..."

I LOVE the album. There is a song to listen to for just about any mood I might be in at any given moment. And if I'm in a bad mood (and need a pick-me-up, for instance), a quick Miranda/Say You Will blast does the trick every time.

My only regret? That the album wasn't LONGER with MORE SONGS, say a second disc with 18 or 19 more tunes.

My hate for Silver Girl has yet to wane. It remains a fly in the ointment of an otherwise amazing album. I continue to hail Everybody Finds Out as the coolest song ever. It's just so damn scandalous.

What's the World Coming To- I haven't been able to listen to it the same way ever since I read it was about Lindsey and the record business. How dull. Love Stevie on it, though.

Murrow- Kicks ass.

Illume- I like how Stevie went out on a limb with this song, but I don't care for the song itself. With the exception of one verse, the lyrics blow chunks.

Thrown Down- Never liked it, never will.

Miranda- Love it. I love his vocals.

Red Rover- One of my favorite Lindsey songs ever.

Say You Will- No, I won't.

Peacekeeper- Good song, but I prefer the solo version. I don't skip it, though, and do enjoy it.

Come- Have mercy.

Smile At You- Blows the old demo out of the water.

Running Through the Garden- Plastic production, but it's a fun song and I love it. The lyrics are cheesy as hell, but hey.

Silver Girl- Not the greatest song, but not the monstrosity it's made out to be.

Steal Your Heart Away- Great song. Not much to it.

Bleed To Love Her- Gag me.

Everybody Finds Out- Fun. That's about it. And it has her best vocal in years. Someone lit a fire under her ass in the studio, that's for sure.

Destiny Rules- Grew on me a lot, I love it now.

Say Goodbye- My favorite on the album.

Goodbye Baby- Her best song in years. Love the whisper vocal and it's hard to believe it's the same song from those crappy old demos.

WTWCT- Not a favorite LB song of mine, but it's alright.

Murrow - Love it, and that solo is nuts!

Illume - I like this song, it's weird and I love weird.

Thrown Down - I prefer the WOS version, but it's alright.

Miranda - It's catchy and mysterious, since everyone has a theory on what the frick it means. LOL

Red Rover - My 2nd favorite song ever and my favorite on SYW.

Say You Will - Zzzzzz....it's catchy as heck, but boring.

Peacekeeper - I also prefer the solo version, but this is a great song.

Come - Love it on the album, love it live...just love it.

Smile At You - How different is this from the demos?! WOW!! I love this song!

Running Through the Garden - I love the demo better, but this is a pretty neat song.

Silver Girl - Good grief, this song is boring.

Steal Your Heart Away- I prefer this over BTLH. I love it.

Bleed To Love Her - I prefer the Dance version, but it's okay.

Everybody Finds Out - I love this song, it's spunky!

Destiny Rules - I love this one too.

Say Goodbye - Prefer the solo version, but it's just greatness, no matter what.

Goodbye Baby - This is such a sad, tender song...I used to not care for it much, but it has grown on me.

I think Illume runs cricles around Silver Girl in terms of whoreanusness! That song is almost unlistenable. The drone, the lyrics, the music, the freaky voice in the middle of it that seems to be there for no reason, etc. It would be embarrassing if it wasn't so laughable.

I dislike them both, so you won't get much argument from me. But I do think that Silver Girl's lyrics are worse, and that Illume's music and melody is a bit better. I never listen to either one, though.

I caved in and downloaded it and I am stunned. The last minute or so of the song gave me chill-bumps! Very dark and intense, some of her best lyrics. The Stevie/Lindsey voice hybrid took me aback at first, but it kinda works in the context of the song. Great vocal, too. I can't imagine it being played live, though.

I did like it. I still stand by my assertion that the verse with the jade line is one of her very best lyrics, too, and her delivery at the end is great. But the song? Not so much. I came to not like how she wrote about 9/11, which if you do another search (I can never get anything to come up past April or March of last year when the board got a new look), we had a big discussion on after the album came out, too. :xoxo:

Has anyone else heard it? It's AWESOME!!! I think the song sounds great this way. The vocals are a bit rushed, but I think the thunder really adds to the song. The background music is really brought out and up to the forefront. I love it!

I'm not free to change my mind? I used to loathe and despise Red Rover with every fiber of my being, and now I love it. You don't have songs that you hated at first and then loved, or songs you loved at first and then hated? I mean, c'mon, this album came out two years ago. I still love that one quite a bit because they (whoever remixed it) sped up her vocals and it makes the song more upbeat and reduces the drone. The rain noise effects are still crap, though.

Owning it for two years and listening to it numerous times over those years opened my eyes as to how mediocre the whole thing is. They didn't think any of it through and it definitely shows, especially in the case of Illume. What were they going for with that computerized voice? Where is the melody? Why does it come across as so self-centered? Why does she think a river is neverending? It all seems a bit slapdash at times.

SYW is a solid album, but not my favorite. I would have rather had Lindsey's songs on GOS. (Still not too fond of "Come" though, although I love it live.) And "Bleed to Love Her" was a waste.

I enjoy most of Stevie's songs. I detest "Illume" (what the hell is with that percussion?) and I think EFO is childish. But I now adore "Destiny Rules," which I hated when the album first came out.

Happy 2nd Anniversary, Say You Will! I really like the fact the band had the balls to put out an album with new and at times, unusual (not necessarily "pop" radio, friendly) songs. They rolled the dice, and I feel like they came with a good, solid, and inventive album.

The only thing I wish they hadn't put on there is "Bleed to Love Her." I love the song, but it was on The Dance, and that should have been good enough. Then, they could have put another song in its place that wasn't on a previous album.

I think the C word is HYSTERICAL and use it often though never in front of women unless they use it. I also like several other words for that body part but cannot post here

I used to work with a woman who said it all the time, in every possible way. I was shocked to begin with but soon became used to it. When someone is using it in everyday conversation it soon becomes mundane.

I wonder what he's doing these days. I used to see him every now and then on the Buckingham Nicks board but not anymore.

yeah, that's right! That board is more fluffy, and almost everyone is really, really nice. He probably likes this one better. But if the black ledge is still on, perhaps he's active there. :)

words to insult an annoying c___ with, Oops!

Hell, I get told all the frikking time I should be a comedian mainly for my own twisted vocabulary...But I wont be censored thus no comedy career in my future.

Anyways, I still think SYW holds up rather well after 2 years...Hell, It just jumped into my JVC system and is crankin' away. Hopefully the next FM release will be while I am still in my 30's ("Sure...And 'ifs' and 'buts' were candies & nuts I would have one helluva party" )

Brian "The black Ledge???!!!...Oh, is that like those black ops & black government helicopters that are supposed to exist too, ya know like Hangar 18 & Area 51  ???" j.

It is really strange to go back and see threads from two years ago. Boy have my opinions changed! I really can't believe I said that The Second Time was a masterpiece. Just a little disclaimer if you ever read my posts- I over exagerate a lot!

Don't worry, I have the same problem. :wavey:

Ok...I'll just copy Diss here...

What's the World Coming To- It's a nice song, I love Stevie's harmony...but it's just as bland as ever.

Murrow- This is my favorite song on the album. It was a standout when I first bought it, too.

Illume- I must be in the minority, because I love this song.

Thrown Down- It's ok. I don't really care for it.

Miranda- Fun song to sing along with. Harmonies are great.

Red Rover- Good song, but I never listen to it. (?)

Say You Will- Catchy as hell chorus. Don't listen to this much though.

Peacekeeper- BLEGH.

Come- Worst song on here.

Smile At You- It's grown on me...but I cannot listen to it anymore without pining for the Angry demo.

Running Through the Garden- Fun, but also makes me miss the demo.

Silver Girl- I've always liked this song.

Steal Your Heart Away- Blahhhhh

Bleed To Love Her- Blahhhh

Everybody Finds Out- A little too disco for me.

Destiny Rules- I can't stand this song AT ALL.

Say Goodbye- I love this.

Goodbye Baby- And this.

Gaius' controversial comments about the song...
Good lord. Isn't it time for another clean-up in the archives, moderators? ;)

I'm still pretty pleased with Say You Will overall. Of course I do think it could have been better, "What's The World Coming To" would've probably been cooler as an acoustic version (the snippet of it in the special edition is TOO good), "Down On Rodeo" should have replaced "Steal Your Heart Away", "Peacekeeper" should have made room for "Twist Of Fate" and "Not Make Believe" would've done fine in the place of "Silver Girl". But those are about the only complaints I have.

History will probably view Say You Will as an album made by four has-beens at the tail end of their careers, but we don't have to care about such opinions, do we? ;)

No way! Steal Your Heart Away is one of the best songs on SYW.

I love the album, it made me a fan of FM and I still dig it. Can't say my opinions about the songs are changed much, except for Murrow who had a kryptonite effect on me initially, but now I appreciate it more. My favourites are still Destiny Rules, Thrown Down, Say Goodbye, Everybody Finds Out, Goodbye Baby, Miranda, Illume, Smile at You and those I don't care for are Come and Silver Girl (even if I really like the bridge).

Great work of art, brilliantly uncompromising in its differencies, and full of intriguing paths to follow.

SYW is a good album but by no means a masterpiece. However I think most of us would agree that SYW is th ebst work of all new material that they have done since Tango.

My Fav's are SYW, WTWCT,PK,GB

Come bores me because of the way Lindsey distotrs his voice and I just find it too loud. Thrown Down was better as the deom version. Silver Girl is bland bland bland. EFO is ok.

Overall a solid effort.

Oh no, I'd say it's their best work since Tusk. Especially TangoITN is alot less then SYW, imo.

No. But, two good cases for it being a double CD

"Not Make Believe" would've done fine in the place of "Silver Girl".
Well, for most of this past two years, that is exactly what I've been saying...but a month or so ago, "Silver Girl" came on a jukebox...to both my surprise & chagrin, I kind of liked it and now I'm thinking that "Not Make Believe" should've replaced "Running Through The Garden" instead.

I love Say You Will. I agree with everyone who said it's their best and most interesting work since "Tusk." Not that that's saying much... "Mirage" and "Tango in the Night" are both pretty bland affairs overall despite a few good singles, and we won't even get into "Behind the Mask and "Time."
Stevie's work, in particular, is stellar. I love all her songs. Mick's right in the Destiny Rules doc when he says they're her best group of songs since the 1970s.
I still say "Illume" is amazing, aside from the vandalism that Lindsey Buckingham committed in adding those heinous computer voices. I think it's one of her most adventurous and unusual songs.
"Say You Will" is fun but suffers from a bad vocal and colorless production. Uh, the kids' voices? Maybe even worse than the computers.
Compared with Stevie's songs, Lindsey's to me seem mostly flavorless. He's never been as distinctive a songwriter, but to my ears only "Red Rover" and "Miranda" truly jump out of the speakers. "Bleed to Love Her" was great on The Dance but I HATE it here. Those echo-y drums ruin it.
"Come," meanwhile, is the album's one utter travesty.

I just read that whole thread and I have to say that I love the manipulated voices on illume. I think it is very cool and freaky at the same time.
