Um, no, we are not like Jersey or NY folks, we are a breed all our own! :] But I guess to southerners we may seem very similar? Maybe we are and I'm just in denial since it's baseball season. Speaking of, Johnny Damon's doing a book signing next Tuesday! :swoon:

Something we will NEVER see here in PA. Good lord - the government here has a tight restriction on all alcohol sales. There was just a big battle over opening a small percentage of state liquor stores on Sundays (in the past there was only sales of six packs in restarants on Sundays). Beer must be bought at beer distributors (or restaurants that sell 6 packs) and all liquor must be bought at a "state store". No grocery stores or 7-11s here that sell anything alcoholic.

In NY, we can buy beer & malt beverages at the grocery store. Liquor & wine from the liquor stores (which are privately owned.) Depending on the county, sales stop at a certain time.
I'm in Erie County, so you can legally start buying alcohol at 8am. Except Sundays, when you can't buy any alcohol before 12 noon (which puts a real damper on football games if you forgot to grab beer the night before. ) Sales stop at 3 or 4am.
Liquor stores used to be closed Sunday by law, but they just changed it. The store can now be open on Sunday, but they must choose another day that wek to be closed. Most just stay closed Sun unless there's a holiday involved or it's football season.
As far as I know we do not have any drive-through liquor stores, but a few will deliver. :D

Oh, to live in another state . . .
PA has so many outdated laws regarding the sale of liquor and beer it is ridiculous. We aren't able to buy wine online and have it shipped to us (legally, that is) and we aren't allowed to buy wine, say on a vacation to VA, and cart it home across the border (again, legally that is). Also, no liquor can be sold at strip joints unless the girls wear G-strings and pasties.
How do I know all of this? In law school, I worked as a law clerk for the PA State Police.

I went there for take out the other day and I threw the food out. The fries were cold and soggy and the chicken strips looked like they were not cooked. I can't believe you can get liquor from anywhere but a liquor store.
Each township has their own rules. Like a resturant can't sell liquor at a table past like 9 on Sunday and stuff like that....
I have a bar that was open until 3, and that was late. You had to get out by 2:30 tho.
Places like Houllihans and Fridays stay up that late as long as you hold no drink past 2:30.
But if I want to buy liquor, there isn't a liquor store open past 10 anywhere that I know of. It's much cheaper in NJ than in PA, where my 6 pack of Twisted Teas is 6.99, there it's almost 10 dollars!
I went to Vegas and I was shocked to see liquor at a CVS or something like that! Right in the cooler! It's like that in Europe too and it's facinating. So convenient.

Friendly's is ok. I never had a problem there. When my dad died, we were so poor. My mom worked there for a couple of years so we ate there for free alot cause they felt sorry for us probably LOL. But I liked the food. It was fresh. Ice cream was good. I still get yearnings for Friendly's and there are a million near me!
As for subs or grinders?? I call them hoagies. There are places called Sub Shops and such but I will just call it a hoagie.
I call the grocery store the supermarket. No one I know calls it that except my mom, who is from Philly.
it's cool to see even though some of us are in the same country, we speak so differently.
