Has anyone seen the vid for "Hollaback Girl" yet? Can someone please explain? I mean, there've been some doozy songs & videos over the years, but WTF?????? It's just....bad.
We have the nerve to tear up Stevie's lyrics & this broad is singing about bananas. I like Gwen, she's cute & all, but this song/video sucks.
Sorry, Amby. :sorry:

I'm in love with the song--it's one of my favorites on the album because it's just incredibly fun. However, when most of the song is bleeped out because she keeps saying "****," how great can the edited version and video be? What's the video like??

It's a high school theme, with a band & cheerleaders. The idea is cute & fun, but she's running around in a red leotard & there are way too many ass shots for my taste. And to cheer the word "bananas?" Ugh.
I was wondering what she was saying, I couldn't understand the word. Now I know.
Another terrible song/vid - I LOATHE 50 Cent's "Candy Shop." Grody to the max. (insert puking smiley)

I almost put a plastic bag over my head when I watched him perform at the Grammy's. What makes him so hilarious is that he embodies high camp without even intending to do so. His faux Jesus on the Grammy's was quite the knee-slapper. I just want to kick him.

I never pay attention to any new music, it's all awful for the most part. My adoration for Franz was a happy accident because I never would have picked up their album on my own. And it seems like music in general has just become boring. There's really nothing new to say anymore.

Okay, I saw her video. It was really distracting that she couldn't say sh**, I thought. It took away from the flow, not only in the music but in the choreography. :( However, Gwen looked hot as usual. I like how she had her "old" outfit on. :D Also, she looks SMOKIN' hot in her red leotard. I thought they could have used the same concept as they did, but made it a lot better. The cheerleaders outfits, choreography, etc. and Gwen, should have been much more fierce, IMO.
NEVERTHELESS! - Gwen is hotly stupendous, and I love her. especially for a 35 year old. She is obviously immature, like me. :p There was much natural Sass, as always.
I didn't see the vid, but on a similar topic...My boyfriend bought me her album when it came out for whatever reason. I'm not sure if he wanted me to get back into the 80s or if he thought I was a fan (I wasn't), but he bought it. Anyway, I really liked it. I loved the first single and I love that song Bubble Pop Electric and Harajuka Girls.
She's adorable and slightly infectious. It's unusual for me to get into female singers who are so bubbly...I'm all about the dark stuff. But she's cute. So who else liked her album and do you recommend I get anything from No Doubt? I have nothing by them but I've probably heard tons.
Thanks!

I? Love the Gwen. I like the album Rock Steady a whole bunch, it's all dancy fun. With some deepish lyrics on some songs, too. Most people have Tragic Kingdom. Return of Saturn is good, from what I've heard (I don't have the album, but have heard some songs). you can view some videos here: www.nodoubt.com/video - trapped in a Box and Spiderwebs are great older videos. I especially loved the song Bathwater, which I hadn't heard before.
There is one song from their first album, NO DOUBT, that I absolutely love - it's called Sometimes. Veeery pretty.

It's weird because I like No Doubt (with the exception of Rock Steady, oy), but I can't get into her solo album at all. It sounds amateurish and too labored at the same time. A few songs are good, but I just can't get into.

Gaw, I love Rock Steady! Oh, well. And I think her solo album is exceptionally produced, as far as I know about such things. I think the sounds, rhythms, etc are very unusual, and somewhat innovative. :) I just watched the vid for Bathwater last night, and loooooved the song. That's from Return of Saturn, I presume? Yup, Bathwater is from Saturn. I like that one, but my favorite song from it is Artificial Sweetener. I love that one. Rock Steady gets on my nerves, I think it's atrocious. That single Hey Baby is, IMO, one of the worst and most obnoxious things I've ever heard. Waiting Room is incredibly awkward, her and Prince do not go together at all. Platinum Blonde Life is such a Debbie rip-off that I instantly disliked it. Very unoriginal. I was *really* disappointed with that album. But I like their other ones, so it all balances out.
PS: If you want a kick-ass album, the new Garbage one comes out Tuesday!

I like Hey Baby, it makes me dancy and happy. I think the same thing about Rock Steady as L.A.M.B. - I think it is exceptionally produced and unusual. I really love the little Jamaican influence, too (on Rock Steady). I think Gwen, and No Doubt, really have a good sense of who to work with. It usually sounds nice and simple, and up, but there is really a lot going on there.

I went absolutely crazy for this album when it came out... but it's really not cohesive- i can't sit and listen to the whole thing from beginning to end because it's all over the place... i have to program a few songs at a time to listen to. there are like, 2 or 3 different albums of songs on here... that could have been separated to make her next few albums... i understand that it reflects Gwen personality and all the facets of it- but it's just hard to listen to at once. but i still bought it :) and convinced a few of my friends to buy it. :)
oh... and did anyone else notice Jimmy Iovine in her What You Waiting For video? Livia had to point him out to me... I somehow didn't put 2 and 2 together :)

I have a promo copy and can't get enough of it. It's their best album and one of those albums where you can listen to the whole thing all the way through and then want to start at the beginning again. I do think they chose a lousy single, though, when compared to the other tracks (I have the import single and the b-sides are just as amazing as the album tracks). They should have gone for either Metal Heart or Boys Wanna Fight as the first single.
In any case, I HIGHLY recommend getting it.

No Doubt has somehow become one of my favorite bands. I have every album and love them.
Return to Saturn got alot of slack but it IS a good album. New and Bathwater are my absolute favorite songs. If you want a good album, get their Greatest Hits album, not one song you won't know. It's great.
As for Gwen's album, I love it. There are 3 songs I HATE on it but the rest are great. I love Hollaback Girl. Back at Christmas I played that for anyone who would listen and got many to say the **** is bananas LOL.
I think Serious should have been the next single. Great song and it's alot of fun.
As for Gwen, she IS beautiful but she's gotten too skinny. I just thought in the last two videos, she was too skinny and she's admitted to starving herself so I guess it's what she wants but I just hope she never gets breast implants ( she is FLAT and I admired her for never giving into wanting breasts...like at all) but didn't she looked stuffed in the last video? I don't blame her but I hope she keeps it real. She is real and a good song writer and a good singer and she takes chances. She is the only girl from my generation still hot and going strong ( I mean Jewel, Fiona, Alannis, Sarah...they haven't been big in awhile) and in a dorky way is a role model for just being a rock grrrl and not some pin up blah Zitney.
But whatever, I love Gwen, I love No Doubt and I hope they got MANY years of music yet to come!!!
( anyone else see Stevie and Gwen being similar? Return to Saturn, some songs really seem like Stevie songs...the way they both became solo artists, esp in their 30's...Jimmy...blonde hair brown eyes...fashion icons...)

I'm with you on the Hollaback Girl song. It's a big ol' ball sniffer if you ask me! I practically tasted bile the first time I heard it. There are phenomenal songwriters out there who should be heard before as song with the word bananas in it. And it's not only in there once! It's the freaking bridge of the song!!! "What's the world coming to?"
I don't like it either. I bought this CD but I don't really like it. This shocks me because I <3 Gwen. That video is such a sellout, but some f*cking pants on Gwen. Oops, I'm gonna get it for that comment. ;)

And here it is! I love Gwen without pants, she looks hot. And, to be fair, she is wearing BIG pants through most of the video. And, once again, Suze, Gwen heard that you were talking sh** and you didn't think that she would hear it. She's ready to attack, gonna lead the pack gonna get a touchdown gonna take you out!!!
I really could not love that song more. :D

What about the back cover where she's sitting spread eagle on the chair?
I bought the "special" one with the "exclusive CD cover designed by Gwen!!1!!!11!" because they had it for sale at the same price as the regular one and it is sooooooo fugly. What in the world does one do with that thing?! And now I see it in the stores for $37! What a rip.

I think she looks fine. Just a bit thinner than before. She's thin enough for me to be jealous, but not so thin that I'm grossed out. :) And, hey, it's not like she'll lose her bodacious chest if she loses too much weight... *sigh* I love her.

I think she's way too thin, just like my darling Nicole, unfortunately. They had some ridiculous thing on VH1 about skinny stars and she was one of 'em. She looked killer a little while back, but now I think she's a twig. At least she looked like one on the Brit Awards. But it could be the coke.

At least they haven't gone the Renee Zellweger route. Gawd, she was such a natural beauty and now she's skin and bones. It's kind of sad, actually, to see someone so beautiful get so fugly and think they look good (and that others find it attractive).

Just got back from seeing it! The show I went to was sold out, too, but I bought tix online last night. I? Was surprised at how good it was. The fact that they actually filmed it at the UN lent it such credibility and atmosphere, you won't believe it. I was happy to see Catherine Keener in it, too, because I <3 her. Sean Penn was tolerable, but Nicole was fab, especially during the scenes where she hears the assassination plot. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't explore the genocide a bit more, but hey, it was still great.

I didn't expect it, either, so I was pleasantly surprised. I just about spit out my tea when they showed Michael Caine on a box of fishsticks. I loathe Will Ferrell, but it should still be moderately funny because Nora Ephron wrote it and I think she can be very funny when she tries.

As far as Gwen and No Doubt go...I LOVE that song Simple Kind of Life. I remember seeing an interview with Gwen when it came out and she talked about how she wrote the song and how it made her feel kind of like Stevie Nicks. I thought that was an interesting comment---Gwen's line of reasoning was similar to someone else's observation earlier about the similarities between the two women.
Also, that song that has the video where they're all post-apocalyptic wave-runner-warriors is truly awesome. What is that song called? Hella something...anyway, love it. What album is that on?

In November of '99. Even Veruca, who has matured into a gorgeous woman. It was at one of those movie memorbilia conventions just outside of Boston. They were supposed to be charging ten bucks per signature, but they just signed anything you put in front of them for free. I got all of them to sign my Wonka poster and the dude that played Charlie signed a Wonka bar for me. The guy that played Augustus has the thickest accent, I couldn't even understand him. I was not impressed with Mike Teevee, though; what a ****. Ego like you wouldn't believe. Diane Sowles, the one that played Mrs. Bucket, is a sweetheart. Violet wore a violet suit ( ) and couldn't get enough of the kids that were there, she took a picture with every one of them.
