I don't watch Bravo because it has commercials. But is this worth seeing? I love the Animal Planet stuff, when I can slog through the ads.

If you liked the movie "Best In Show" you might like "Showdog Moms & Dads". Bravo has some pretty cool stuff, you should check it out, just mute the commercials.

I watched that special they had a while back "The 100 Scariest Movie Moments" and while I usually hate those lists, they picked some good ones; I was quite surprised. Their top ten blew burrito chunks, but otherwise it was good.

 It's true, their top ten was awful. Jaws, The Exorcist, Elm Street, Halloween, etc. Talk about unoriginal and predictable. One of the movies we rented last weekend, Audition, was on the same list (I didn't want to get it, but he did, that asshole) as having one of the scariest scenes and I literally had to dig deep down inside myself to find the strength to finish it. Watching that movie was one harrowing experience, lemme tell ya. Never in my life has a movie had me in such an altered state.

Compared to other horror movies? HELL NO. My top ten would have definitely included these:
Black Christmas
Suspiria
The Wicker Man
Audition (just saw it and it was truly terrifying)
Session 9
Haute Tension
Poltergeist

Blah Blah Blah - let me tell you - you whipersnapper  - when Jaws came out, it terrified people so much that people stopped going to the beach. When the Exorcist came out, it terrified people so much that it almost caused a mass hysteria. I was there. I saw it. None of the movies you mentioned had that effect. Not that they were not scary, bad flims, or anything like that. They just did not move people the way Jaws and The Ex. did and still do for that matter.

Ah, yes, Picky Picky (my name for you :xoxo: meant with love, like a bad cat that I still like) - but you may not be wrong.
I submit - what would you have put on your list? Elm Street was Scary to me, not so much the others. But I am not a horror film officianado, in fact I don't like them much. I honestly can't imagine being scared by Jaws, much. but then I saw it when I was much older. Candyman scared me a bit. Elm Street was good, because it struck in your dreams! While you sleep! Yipes! Suspiria? I thought it was more beautifully set designed, and scored, than scary....
etc.
Edit - Oops, just saw your list. I haven't seen most of them. Almost got Wicker Man, recently...
honestly, I am scared more by the real life detective shows that are on now...and cold case, and city confidential. Real life serial murderers, etc, scare the living **** out of me. I have dreams, where I hear someone coming up my stairs...*shudder*...Silence of the Lambs should be on that list. As should...uh...that murder mystery with Ellen Barkin and Al Pacino....and...any more "Real Life" stuff that comes around. That scares the pants offa me, not some otherworldly, stock, bloody, unbelievable horror villain.

Smallest violin...;)
If we're to look at it from your point of view, the fact that Jaws was number one over Psycho is simply insulting. Unfortunately, films like Jaws and The Exorcist have lost a lot of their edge. They were scary back in the day (I still find The Exorcist horrifying, though), but not so much in this day and age.

I looked at exorcist as a different kind of film than horror. I thought it was very well done.

Well, Pyscho was scarier than any film you named
I just think that while the films you named are scary, the list you mentioned was listing scary from the public's perspective and that certainly includes the films they listed. I also think people still get terrified when watching Jaws. LOL - I corrected a typo that would have read "I also think people still get terrified when watching JEws. "

The Wicker Man is sensational. I'll never be able to get that ending out of my head. Just don't get the 86 minute version, it's unwatchable and makes no sense.

Then you should see Audition. I don't want to recommend it because I didn't enjoy it (I was very uncomfortbale watching it, which is a rarity), but it will scare the living daylights out of you; it has nothing to do with monsters or ghosts any such garbage. Those Japanese horror movies get under your skin like no other. You'll be watching it and for the first hour and a half, you'll say to yourself "What is so scary about this ****?" but during the last half hour, you'll piss yourself. I couldn't breathe.

ok. I don't love horror movies, all my friends think Goodfellas and that Quentin Tarantino movie, with Mr. Pink, etc (the name escapes me at this moment) are rad....I could not watch them twice.
But I will see Audition - In a way, horror films are a bit better than the real life ones - there is always something improbable and fantastic in horror movies which makes them not so real.
Ha - I'm hoping I can watch Audition right away, and not hold it out of fear for a week, like I did Susperia - too scared to watch it, for no reason at all... :p
The blurbs i've read on it say it's pretty gnarly, though.

What I found so spectacular in a storytelling sense is that Audition changes course in the middle of the stream. It goes from being almost a slow moving love story and portrait of middle age loneliness to being unbelievably terrifying and shocking instantly. You never see the last act coming. Never. It's like a punch in the gut and you'll just watch it in utter disbelief, squirming in your seat and reaching to turn the light on because you're so scared out of your mind. I had to stop it then start it thens top it then start it because I was getting so freaked out and it was driving Ben nuts.
It's much like John Sayle's Limbo in that the movie takes off in a completely different direction than you expect it to. I know I'll never be able to watch it again, though, and that I wouldn't have finished it without someone with me.

There's nothing in terms of violence until the last thirty minutes, but when it comes, be prepared. It's excruciating to watch and the atmosphere and direction make it even worse. But it will certainly make you think when it's all over, the whole thing is open to a lot of interpretation and I still don't have it figured all out.

Hello, of course Adjani is in it - and it's a fabulously subtle movie.

Limbo is fabulous, but the last five seconds are just cheap and infuriating. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is really great in it. You might like it, save the ending.
Yes, Audition is nasty. Definitely a movie one can only stomach once. I did find the extras on the DVD pretty informative, though, in regards to how the themes of the movie revolve around Japanese women and how Japanese society treats them. The movie does have a point to it, it's just hard to get to it once all the messy stuff comes along.

I was a bad comp. earlier and could not look it up.
The 1922 silent film was "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013442/
The silent film was the scariest and IMO one of the scariest flims ever, esp. considering when it was made.
The recent movie about the making of that movie was Shadow of the Vampire (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0189998/
You refered to the 1979 remake called Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079641/ - this version was good, but nothing like the 1922 one. The scariest and most brilliant thing about the 1979 version was the plague victims last supper with the decay and rats

Also, one of the scariest movies EVER to me is The Silence of the Lambs and the scary thing was all in the head in that he was scariest through dialogue and behind the wall of his cell
As an interesting aside, he said he copied Katherine Hepburn for that voice
